In the 2016 United States presidential election, Trump won Alabama by a large margin (62.08% to Hillary Clinton's 34.36%). Alabama has voted for the Republican candidate in every election since it was won by Ronald Reagan in the 1980 election, generally by large margins. Given this, Trump is very strongly favored to win Alabama in 2020.

Birmingham was a potential host for the 2020 Democratic National Convention but was ultimately not selected.[3][4]

Primary elections

The primary elections were held on Super Tuesday, March 3, 2020.

Republican primary

As one of the Super Tuesday states, little campaigning has been done here, and the focus has been on the Republican senatorial primary, which is expected to boost turnout.
