COVID-19 pandemic in Punjab, India
The COVID-19 pandemic was confirmed to have spread to the Indian state Punjab on 9 March 2020, when an Indian man returning from Italy was tested positive. As of 17 August 2020, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has confirmed a total of 31,206 cases, including 812 deaths and 19,431 recoveries in Punjab.[1][2]

- 9 March . First case was confirmed in Punjab at Amritsar, a person returned from Italy.[3]
- 19 March a 72-year-old man in Punjab who had returned from Germany via Italy became the fourth victim of the virus in the country and first in Punjab.[4]
- 20 March A third case was reported in Punjab's S.A.S. Nagar where a 68-year-old women who returned from United Kingdom tested positive.[5]
- 21 March 11 more Coronavirus cases were confirmed in Punjab. 6 in Nawanshahar, 3 in Mohali,[6] and 2 in Hoshiarpur.[7] 6 in Nawanshahar and 1 in Hoshiarpur, these are those persons who came into contact with the 72-year-old person who died on 19 March in Nawanshahr due to coronavirus.[8]
- 22 March 7 more Coronavirus cases confirmed in Nawanshahar.[9] All these persons came into contact with the same person who died on 19 March.
- 23 March Two more cases confirmed in State. One in Nawanshahar and one in Mohali.[10]
- 24 March 3 more cases confirmed in State and all belongs to a single family in Jalandhar and the came into contact with the same person who died on 19 March in Mohali.[11] After this 3 more cases confirmed in Nawanshahr.[12]
- 25 March Two more cases confirmed in Punjab, First corona positive case of 54 years old woman in Ludhiana District and 1 more in Hoshiarpur.[13]
- 26 March a 70 years old woman tested positive in Jalandhar, 4th case in Jalandhar and 1 new case in Nawanshahar.[14] The only corona positive patient in Amritsar recovered from the coronavirus. First recovery from coronavirus in Punjab.[15]
- 27 March 3 more cases confirmed in Hoshiarpur and 1 in Jalandhar.[16] One more case confirmed from Mohali where a 38-year-old women tested positive.[17]
- 29 March Punjab reported second death due to coronavirus where 62 years old man died who was admitted in a hospital at Amritsar, but originally from Hoshiarpur. He contacted with the person who died on 19 March.[18]
- 30 March After the gap of two days, a 65 years old man tested positive in Mohali.[19] One more case confirmed from Ludhiana where a 42-year-old woman tested positive in a hospital at Patiala and later on died on the same day.[20] A 35 years old man tested positive in Patiala District who returned from Dubai.[21]
- 31 March 65 old man died due to coronavirus who was admitted into hospital just a day before.[22]
April 2020
- 1 April 72 years old woman tested positive in Ludhiana. She came into contacted with the 42-year-old woman who died on 30 March.[23] Three more cases were confirmed from Mohali.[24] 68 years old Nirmal Singh Khalsa tested positive in Amritsar.[25]
- 2 April Nirmal Singh Khalsa died due to complication arising out of COVID-19, fifth death in Punjab.[26] Two fresh cases confirmed in Hoshiarpur District[27] and Ludhiana District.[28]
- 3 April Five more cases confirmed in Punjab, 3 from Amritsar who came in contact with Nirmal Singh Khalsa and 2 from Mohali who attended the congregation at Nizamuddin West in Delhi in March.[29] Later on 4 more cases confirmed, 3 from Budhlada in Mansa District who attended congregation at Nizamuddin and 1 from Rupnagar.[30]
- 4 April First case of coronavirus was reported in Faridkot District where a 35-year-old man tested corona positive.[31] 35-year-old daughter of Nirmal Singh Khalsa tested corona positive in Jalandhar two days after his father's death.[32] Later on 6 more case confirmed, 3 from Amritsar, 2 from Mohali and first case from Pathankot district.[33]
- 5 April 42 years old man tested corona positive in Dera Bassi of Mohali and 28 years old man tested positive in Ludhiana.[34] First corona positive case reported from Barnala District where a 42 years old woman tested positive.[35] 72 years old woman who tested corona positive on 1 April died due to COVID-19 in Ludhiana and woman tested positive a day before in Pathankot died at Amritsar hospital.[36]
- 6 April 7 coronavirus cases emerged from 5 districts of Punjab, i.e. 2 from Fatehgarh Sahib, 2 from Ropar, 1 and first from Kapurthala, 1 new from Mohali and 1 from Amritsar who died on same day.[37] 54 years old man tested corona positive in Ludhiana.[38] Later on 3 more cases confirmed from Mohali, all belonged to the 42 years old man who tested corona positive a day before in Derabassi.[39]
- 7 April 12 more cases confirmed in the state as 7 from Mohali and all belongs to a single village, 2 from Mansa, 1 from Pathankot, the husband of the deceased corona patient, first Coronavirus case from Moga originally belongs to Maharashtra state[40] and 1 from Amritsar, the wife of corona patient who died a day before in Amritsar. Later on 8 more cases confirmed in Punjab. 5 from Pathankot and all came into the contact of the deceased corona patient in the District and 3 from Moga.[41]
- 8 April One person tested positive in Faridkot and 1 in Jalandhar, both came into contact with the COVID-19 patients.[42] Later on 5 more case confirmed in Punjab, 4 from Mohali and 1 from Jalandhar. First case reported from Sri Muktsar Sahib district where 18 years old boy tested corona positive and 2 cases reported from Ludhiana District where 15 years old boy and 24 years old man tested corona positive.[43] In Rupnagar District a 55-year-old man, who tested corona positive, died.[44] Later on 6 more cases confirmed in Mohali.[45]
- 9 April 1 more Corona positive case was confirmed from Mohali[46] and 1 COVID-19 patient who tested corona positive a day before in Jalandhar, died.[47] Four more cases confirmed, 3 from Jalandhar including one man and two women and 1 from Amritsar who returned from England.[48] Later on 10 more cases were confirmed in Punjab – 6 from Mansa, 2 from Ludhiana, 1 from Barnala who died on same day and the first case in Sangrur District.[49]
- 10 April 1 more case confirmed from Sangrur. Later on a new case reported in Jalandhar, 8 in Pathankot and all belongs to the only deceased corona patient in District and 11 more in Mohali, out of 11, one 78 years old woman who died, tested corona positive in Mohali.[50]
- 11 April A new corona positive case reported in Patiala District.[51] Later on 2 new COVID-19 cases confirmed in Mohali.[52] 1 more case confirmed in Pathankot and 3 from Jalandhar.[53] Later 3 cases confirmed in Punjab, each from Kapurthala, Faridkot and Mohali.[54]
- 12 April 2 more cases confirmed from Jawaharpur village of Mohali where a 80 years old and 55 years old females tested corona positive.[55] Later on 6 more cases confirmed in Jalandhar and one woman died recently, diagnosed with COVID-19.[56]
- 13 April 6 new cases confirmed in State where in Ludhiana an Assistant Commissioner of Police tested corona positive, 1 case from Mohali and 2 cases reported each from Jalandhar and Pathankot[57] Later on 4 more cases confirmed in Pathankot.[58]
- 14 April Two fresh COVID-19 positive cases reported in Mohali where 56 years old and 36 years old females tested corona positive.[59] First corona positive case confirmed in Gurdaspur District where a 60 years old man tested positive who returned from Jalandhar hospital[60] and new case confirmed from Jalandhar.[61] Later at night one more case confirmed from Sangrur District.[62]
- 15 April Third corona positive case reported in Patiala District where 52 years old man tested positive.[63]
- 16 April Three more corona positive cases confirmed in Patiala District and all are family members of the person who tested corona positive a day before. Two cases reported from Pathankot district, one of them related to the previous positive case of the lady who died but another is an unrelated case of an auto driver. The only corona positive patient in Gurdaspur District died. Six more cases confirmed from Jalandhar District.[64] Later at night one more case confirmed in Patiala[65] and Ludhiana where a state official tested corona positive.[66]
- 17 April Two cases reported from Ludhiana District and first case reported from Ferozepur District all came into contact with the Assistant Commissioner of Police[67] Seven more COVID-19 cases confirmed in Jalandhar.[68] State officer who tested corona positive a day before in Ludhiana, died.[69] Later on one more case confirmed from Ludhiana and four cases from Patiala.[70]
- 18 April An ACP who tested corona positive in Ludhiana died.[71] Later on three case confirmed from Jalandhar, an Assistant sub-inspector of police belongs to Gurdaspur, posted in Ludhiana, tested corona positive, he came into contact with ACP in Ludhiana and Mohali reported 1 cases and Patiala reported 15 cases.[72]
- 19 April Four cases confirmed from Mohali all came into contact with the corona positive patient and 6 more cases confirmed from Jalandhar. Out of two confirmed cases from Barnala one patient has recovered, Barnala has no active cases of COVID-19 now.[73]
- 20 April Only one new case confirmed from Jalandhar.[74]
- 21 April One new case confirmed from Mohali where a 25 years old boy tested corona positive and 5 corona positive cases confirmed in Patiala and all came into contact with the corona positive patient.[75]
- 22 April 1 new case confirmed in Kapurthala where a 6 months old baby tested corona positive and 5 cases confirmed in Jalandhar district and all came into contact with the corona patients. Two new cases reported in Amritsar District and 18 from Patiala District.[76]
- 23 April Nine new case confirmed from Jalandhar district[77] and One new case from Mohali.[78] 6 months old baby who tested corona positive from Kapurthala died.[79]
- 24 April A 35 years old lady tested corona positive in Ludhiana[80] and one new case in Jalandhar.[81] Later on 6 cases confirmed from Patiala, 2 from Mansa and 1 from Amritsar.[82]
- 25 April A lady doctor tested corona positive in Pathankot.[83] Six more cases confirmed in Rajpura of Patiala District and all came into contact with corona positive patients.[84] Near about after one month a new COVID-19 case reported in Nawanshahr where a 35 years old man tested corona positive who returned from Jammu.[85] 18th death reported in Punjab from Jalandhar district where a 48 years old man died at morning and later on tested positive.[86] Later on 5 more cases confirmed in Jalandhar District and 1 case in Ludhiana District[87]
- 26 April 9 More positive cases confirmed in Jalandhar.[88]
- 27 April First death reported in Patiala District where a 63-year-old woman died at Rajpura.[89] 3 cases confirmed in Kapurthala District, all returned from Nanded.[90]
- 28 April 7 new case confirmed in Jalandhar city, 2 new case confirmed from Jawaharpur village in Mohali.[91] 1 new case confirmed from Hoshiarpur and 2 more from Tarn Taran District.[92]
- 29 April 3 cases confirmed in Faridkot who returned from Nanded, Maharashtra. 11 cases confirmed in Ludhiana, out of these 7 returned from Nanded and 4 returned from Kota University in Rajasthan and 3 cases confirmed in Hoshiarpur, 8 new cases reported in Mohali, Bathinda, Nawanshahr and Patiala each reported 2 cases and Jalandhar and Sangrur each reported 1 case.[93]
- 30 April Total 105 cases were confirmed. 1 case reported each in Moga, Nawanshahr, Patiala, Firozpur, 2 cases reported each in Sangrur and Ropar, 3 cases reported each in Jalandhar Muktsar and Gurdaspur, 6 cases reported Kapurthala, 7 in Tarn Taran, 13 in Mohali, 28 in Amritsar and 34 in Ludhiana.[94] Later on 14 more cases confirmed in Ludhiana, total 48 in a day.[95] Amritsar district reported another COVID-19 cases, total 67 cases in a day.[96]
May 2020
- 1 May 6 cases confirmed in Mohali, 16 in Jalandhar, 1 case each in Patiala, Moga, Fatehgarh Sahib, 4 cases in Fazilka, 9 in Amritsar and 15 cases in Firozpur.[97] Later 24 more cases confirmed in Patiala.[98] 9 more cases confirmed in Fatehgar Sahib district, 10 in a day.[99] Firozpur district reported fresh cases, total 24 cases in a day.[100]
- 2 May Amritsar reported 53 cases, 31 cases reported in Hoshiarpur, 22 in Moga, 21 in Ludhiana, 15 in Jalandhar, 3 in Muktsar Sahib, 2 in Mohali and 1 case reported each in Gurdaspur, Kapurthala and Sangrur.[101] Later at night 24 more cases confirmed in Gurdaspur District and 4 cases reported each in Sangrur and Jalandhar.[102]
- 3 May Amritsar reported 75, Ludhiana 12, Mohali 1, Patiala 1, Hoshiarpur 46, Tarn Taran 26, Mansa 3, Nawanshahr 62, Rupnagar 9, Bathinda 33, Fatehgarh Sahib 4 Barnala 2 and Muktsar 42 cases.[103] 3 deaths reported in the State 1 in Ludhiana, one person from Kapurthala, Firozpur reported 2 positive cases out of these 2 cases 1 person died.[104]
- 4 May 15 new cases reported in Barnala, 6 cases reported in Gurdaspur,[105] 13 cases in Firozpur,[106] 7 cases in Jalandhar, 1 case each in Bathinda, Mansa and Ropar, 12 cases in Faridkot, 2 cases in Pathankot and 52 cases in Sangrur.[107] 1 COVID-19 patient died in Hoshiarpur.[108]
- 5 May 27 new cases reported in Faridkot,[109] 34 in Fazilka, 48 in Gurdaspur, 5 in Kapurthala, 14 in Ludhiana, 9 in Moga, 9 in Jalandhar, 15 in Muktsar Sahib, 22 in Sangarur and 47 in Tarn Taran.[110] One patient in Amritsar died due to COVID-19, 25th death in state[111]
- 6 May 16 new cases reported in Tarn Taran, 19 cases in Moga, 11 in Sangrur,[112] 13 in Amritsar, 2 in Mansa, 1 case reported each in Barnala, Bathinda, Firozpur, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Mohali, Muktsar Sahib and Nawanshahr, 3 cases in Fatehgar Sahib.[113] Patiala reported 2 cases, out of these 1 patient died, 1 more patient died in Jalandhar.[114] Later at night 41 more cases confirmed in Tarn Taran, total 57 in a day.[115] Later 40 more cases confirmed in Amritsar.[116]
- 7 May 1 new death reported in Hoshiarpur district.[117] 5 new cases reported in Amritsar, 2 in Bathinda, 1 case reported each in Fatehgarh Sahib, Fazilka, Ludhiana and Sangrur, 6 new cases confirmed in Gurdaspur, 5 in Jalandhar, 6 in Patiala and 13 in Tarn Taran[118]
- 8 May 3rd death reported in Mohali district, 29th death in State.[119] 2 new cases reported in Bathinda, 4 in Fatehgarh Sahib, 1 in Mansa and 18 in Nawanshahr.[120] 11 cases confirmed in Amritsar, 1 in Barnala, 24 in Gurdaspur, 11 in Jalandhar and 5 in Kapurthala.[121]
- 9 May 1 case reported each in Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Mansa and Patiala & 2 in Pathankot. Gurdaspur and Fatehgarh Sahib both districts reported 5 cases each[122] 17 cases in Jalandhar and 4 in Rupnagar. 1 deaths reported in Ludhiana and 1 in Hoshiarpur.[123]

- 27 May The total number of coronavirus cases in Punjab has increased to 2139 after new 33 cases of COVID-19 were reported in the last 24 hours. - 11 July Punjab's COVID-19 telly figure raised to 7,587 with 231 new cases and the death count now stands at 195 due to 8 more casualties. Patiala and Jalandhar reported two each death whereas Pathankot, Sangrur, Ludhiana and Bathinda recorded one death each. Out of 231 new cases, Jalandhar reported 77 new cases and Patiala with 55. Ludhiana, Amritsar, Mohali, Firozpur recorded 29, 19, 12 and 8 new cases consecutively. Faridkot reported 3 new cases, Barnala, Fazilka and Fatehgarh Sahib 2 new cases each Whereas Mansa & Moga reported 5 new cases each. Sangrur reported 7 new cases; likewise, Gurdaspur & Hoshiarpur recorded one case each.[189]
- 12 July Punjab records new 234 coronavirus cases as death toll rises to 199. Ludhiana has again surged in new cases, recorded 60 new cases following Jalandhar 36, Amritsar 22 and Sangrur 12 new cases. Likewise, new 21 cases confirmed from Patiala, 23 from each S.A.S Nagar & S.B.S Nagar, 12 from Bathinda. Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Muktsar, Ferozepur, FG Sahib & Kapurthala has confirmed 2 cases from each. 6 new more cases in Mansa, 4 in Ropar whereas Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran and Faridkot has recorded one case from each district. - 13 July Punjab reported a highest daily spike of cases,357 new cases, in last 24 hours and death figures now stand at 204 with 5 new deaths. Patiala reported 88 new cases, Ludhiana 65, Jalandhar 53, SAS Nagar 26, Amritsar 25, Fatehgarh Saheb 20, Sangrur 6, Gurdaspur 1, Pathankot 9, Hoshiarpur 5, SBS Nagar 11, Faridkot 4, Muktsar 7, Ferozepur & Moga both 8 each, Kapurthala 3, Bathinda 9, Ropar 4, Fazilka 3, and Barnala 2. - 14 July Punjab continues to grapple with a spiralling COVID-19 crisis. The state confirmed another 333 new cases and 9 more deaths in the last 24 hours. Jalandhar confirmed 69 new cases and Ludhiana 79 cases, Patiala (51), Mohali (26), Amritsar (22) and Sangrur (20), Faridkot (12), Nawanshahr (9), Kapurthala (10) and all other districts also confirmed new cases but Muktsar Sahib. Three casualties in Ludhiana, two each from Mohali and Sangrur, one each from Amritsar and Fazilka.[192]
- 15 July Punjab has recorded 288 new coronavirus cases today, Jalandhar confirmed 92 new cases, Ludhiana recorded 61, Patiala 26, SAS Nagar 13, Firozpur 21, SBS Nagar 9, Faridkot & Muktsar 6 each, Bathinda & Hoshirpur 3 each, Pathankot 7, Barnala, Tarn Taran & Ropar 2 each and Moga & Fazilka recorded one each. - 16 July According to the state COVID bulletin, the state has again recorded a high number of new cases,295, with 8 new fatalities in last 24 hours. Infections have been increasing in Ludhiana, Amritsar, Patiala, SAS Nagar, Fazilka and Jalandhar, they have reported 49,28,28,23,24 & 39 new cases respectively. There has also been an increasing number of cases in Bathinda, Moga, FG sahib and SBS Nagar, these districts confirmed 24,17,16,14 & 12 new cases respectively. There is also a small number of new cases in other districts, Ferozepur reported 9, 8 from Faridkot, 3 from Kapurthala, 4 each from Gurdaspur & Hoshiarpur, and 1 each from Ropar & Pathankot. Ludhiana and Jalandhar becoming the worst hit by death figure after Amritsar, 4 new deaths from Ludhiana and 2 from Jalandhar. 1 each from Gurdaspur, Patiala and Kapurthala. [194]
- 17 July Punjab's virus numbers have skyrocketed to a disastrous daily record - 348 new cases. Tragically, there have been nine more deaths. Jalandhar has 78 new cases whereas Ludhiana has 62 and Patiala 56 new cases. Amritsar and Hoshiarpur have recorded 34 new cases each. Meanwhile, Sangrur recorded 11, 14 from Mohali, Moga has 15, 7 each from Ropar & Faridkot, 6 each from Gurdaspur & Muktsar, Fazilka has 4, Pathankot & Kapurthala have three new cases each. Bathinda and Mansa recorded two new cases each, and Tarn Taran, SBS Nagar, Ferozepur and FG Sahib has confirmed only new case each. Ludhiana and Patiala reported two deaths each, and one death each from Ferozepur, SBS Nagar, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran & Amritsar. [195]
- 18 July A total of 350 new infections, including 7 new deaths, have been confirmed across the state in the last 24 hours. Again Jalandhar and Ludhiana most affected districts, 72 from Ludhiana and 71 from Jalandhar. Patiala and Amritsar also confirmed a high number of cases, 48 in Patiala and 31 in Amritsar. Sangrur and Mohali also have shown concerning a number of cases, 28 from Mohali & 23 from Sangrur. Hoshiarpur, Ferozepur and Moga not as high as other but still got 12, 15 & 10 cases respectively. 7 new cases each from Fazilka and Ropar, and 4 each from Bathinda and FG sahib. Sri Muktsar Sahib reported two new cases whereas Kapurthala and Tarn Taran only one new case each. Amritsar had a big spike in death due to COVID, 3 new death reported overnight. Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, Kapurthala, and Mohali each reported a death also. [196]
- 19 July Today, 308 new infections confirmed in the state and 8 new fatalities (Ludhiana-4, Hoshiarpur-2, Amritsar-1, Mohali-1). Jalandhar, Ludhiana badly affected with worrying numbers again, 60, 76 & 41 respectively. Amritsar has a bit low number as compared to last week, 28 new cases whereas Mohali again two-digit new cases, 21. 13 new cases from Firozpur, 12 from Sangrur, 7 each from Tarn taran, Pathankot & SBS Nagar. 5 new cases each from FG Sahib, Fazilka and Moga, 4 each from Faridkot, Kapurthala and Mansa, 3 from Gurdaspur, 2 from Muktsar Sahib and Hoshiarpur, one new case each from Rupnagar and Barnala (Case shifted from Delhi). - 20 July Punjab has reported 8 more deaths and 411 coronavirus cases, making it Punjab's largest daily increase during the pandemic, however, on a positive note, 583 patient has been discharged/cured. 08 new deaths: (Moga-1, Ludhiana-1, Sangrur-1, Pathankot-1, Gurdaspur-2, Amritsar-1, SAS Nagar-1). Patiala reported the highest number of cases overnight, 94 new cases. Likewise, 83 from Ludhiana, 37 from Amritsar, 21 from Sangrur, 26 from Hoshiarpur, 18 from Moga, 16 each from Pathankot & FG sahib, 17 from Bathinda, 27 from Jalandhar, 12 each from Faridkot & Muktsar, 9 from SAS Nagar, 5 each from Kapurthala & Mansa, 4 each from Ferozepur & Ropar, 3 from Barnala and 2 from Gurdaspur.[199]

Government response
Lockdown and containment
Lockdown
On 16th March, the Punjab government issue an advisory to close gyms, restaurants, etc.[209] Three days later the government also shuts down public transport in state from midnight of 20 March and also prohibited gathering of more than 20 persons.[210]
On 22nd March, Punjab government declared complete Lockdown in state till 31 March 2020 except Emergency services.[211] On 23rd March, the Punjab Government imposed full curfew across Punjab without any relaxation, become first State to impose full curfew.[212]
On 10 April, the Punjab government extended curfew in state till May 1.[213] On 29 April, the Punjab government announced for extension of curfew for another 14 days. However, it announced that there would be relaxation for 4 hours every morning.[214] On 16 May, The Punjab Government extended the lockdown to 31 May, taking down curfew and divided the Punjab into containment and non-containment zones .[215]
As of 21 June, the Chief Minister has ordered strict lockdowns on weekends and public holidays[216].
13 July 2020, CM has announced new guidelines regarding gatherings in the state, a complete bar on public gatherings and only 30 persons now attend any social gathering instead of 50 from today.[217] Section 144 has enforced in all districts and mask is mandatory in office as well.
31 July 2020, According to the Unlock-3.0 night curfew (11 PM to 5 AM) still in enforce across the state. All theatres, bars, entertainment parks, auditoriums, sports centres, cultural events and pools will also be going to remain closed until further notice, but Gyms and Yoga centres are now permitted to open with all COVID safety norms from 5 August 2020. [218]
Containment strategy
As of 23 June, Punjab has implemented a stringent containment strategy[219]. The containment zones are delineated as a street or even a society[219].
Screening and quarantine
As of 23rd June, door-to-door searches are being carried out by Asha workers to identify persons with COVID-19[219]. The entire population in containment areas is being screened, and those who test positive are being shifted to isolation centres[219]. Moreover, an App called Ghar Ghar Nigran is being used to survey those above the age of 30[207]. The police has been assisting the administration in contact tracing of COVID-19 patients[220]. On 23 July 2020, PM Captain Amarinder Singh revised the charges of fine for breaching the quarantine or home isolation, ₹ 5000 instead of ₹ 2000. Restaurant's owner would be penalised with ₹5000 if they failed to meet the social-distancing and other COVID safety norms. ₹10,000 fine would be charged if someone broke the public gathering regulation and social distancing norms. ₹500 fine for not wearing mask in public place and there are also fine for bus operators, taxi and auto-rickshaws for breaching COVID safety rules. Relief efforts
On 23rd March, the Punjab government-sanctioned 20 crore rupees for free food, medicines to poor from CM Relief Fund.[222] Ministers, Officers and MLAs including Indian National Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal, decided to donate one month salary in Punjab Chief Minister Relief Fund,[223] Aam Aadmi Party MLA Aman Arora also donated 1 month salary.[224] Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee also offered helping hand amid the coronavirus pandemic to treat corona positive patients at its Hospitals.[225]
On 24th March, the Punjab Chief Minister also set up COVID Relief Fund to be utilised for the welfare of the people in distress due to Coronavirus.[226]
In April, the Punjab Rice Exports Association and FICCI Flo, along with other individuals and NGOs distributed ration in collaboration with the district administration[227]. The Madad Charitable Foundation has been providing 1,500 packets of meals daily to the Police Lines staff. Voice of Amritsar has been providing relief to the most vulnerable populations[227].
The administration is also voluntarily working with Radha Soami Satsang Beas, Chief Khalsa Diwan, Lions Club, Rotary Club, Youth Clubs of various villages are reaching out to needy families[227]. The district control room is also being used as a call centre with distress calls being received for food supplies[227].
Mission Fateh
Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Tuesday launched 'Mission Fateh as part of state battle against COVID-19. 'Mission Fateh represents the determination of the individuals of Punjab to end the spread of the Novel Coronavirus through control, collaboration and sympathy.'[228]
Treatment rates for private hospitals
Punjab Government has announced on 16 July, they are capping the price of COVID-19 treatment at the private hospital, and The price of treatment, fixed for Private Hospitals and Medical Colleges by Dr K.K. Talwar Committee, include isolation beds, treatment in ICU and hospitalisation charges, per day of admission.
For Moderate Sickness requiring Isolation Beds, including strong consideration and oxygen, the price per day of affirmation is fixed at Rs 10,000 for all Private Medical Colleges/NABH Private Hospitals with showing program from NBE. NABH certify Hospitals (Including Private Medical Colleges without PG/DNB Course) can charge Rs. 9000 and Rs. 8000 for Non-NABH authorise Hospitals.
The charges over these classifications of clinics for Severe Sickness (ICU without the requirement for ventilator) have been topped, individually, at Rs. 15000, Rs. 14000 and Rs 13000, while for Very Severe or Critical patients, these are fixed at Rs 18000, Rs, 16500 and Rs 15000 separately. [229]
Establishment of plasma bank
As on 21 July 2020, CM Capt Amrinder Singh has approved the permission to establish a plasma bank as inventory to treat the severely ill patient by plasma therapy and it is established at Rajindra Hospital, Patiala. Two machines have been set up in the hospital as part of Mission Fateh. [230]

Withdrawal of police
According to the Chief Minister's directives, Punjab Police has withdrawn 6355 personnel from non-core duties and these personals are changed into COVID reserve forces across all the districts. These are initiated to enforce the COVID safety norms and laws properly in the state (24/07/2020). [231]
Major relaxations to industry
July-24, 2020: To uplift the investment by industry, Punjab's CM has announced the major announcements for the industry sector including statutory clearances' period can be extended without any inspection. [232]
COVID Care Centres for under-60 mild/asymptomatic patients
Punjab Government has enlarged its COVID care limit with respect to admitting patient under-60 of mild/asymptomatic. To match these needs govt. has established new Level-1 COVID Care Centres (CCCs) in 10 districts across the state. The capacity of these centres is 7520 beds. These centres are running in educational institutes to the limit of 7000 beds which can be upgraded to 28000 beds if there is a spike in cases further. Impact
Education
On 13 March 2020, The Punjab governments declared holidays in all schools and colleges till 31 March.[234] On 19th March, Punjab School Education Board postponed all Board Exams of 10th and 12th classes.[235] Punjab Government has preferred to cancel the pending examinations of different classes which were prior declared to be led after July 15 by Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) and PSEB will announce the marks on the basis of credit carry formula.[236]
On 25 July 2020, CM Punjab confirmed that no government/public school will not be going to charge any sort of admission, re-admission or tuition fee in session 2020-21 from students on the basis of coronavirus crisis. These announcements have been made in #AskCaptain session on 25 July 2020. .[237]
According to the Unlock 3.0 guidelines, all educational institute including public and private will be closed until 31 August. Perhaps, online education can be continued. All examinations including universities, board or entrance are allowed with physical distancing policy.[238]
Transportation
On 19 March Punjab government also shuts down public transport in the state from midnight of 20 March and prohibited gathering of more than 20 persons.[210] On 20 May, The Punjab Government resumed intrastate bus services in Punjab.[239] The restrictions on bus capacity were lifted on 27 June 2020. Masks are mandatory for all passengers.[240]
Labour laws
Punjab has amended its Factories Act in April increasing work time to 12 hours a day instead of 8, and 72 hours a week instead of 48[241].
Guidelines for film, video shooting
Punjab state government has announced some new guidelines for film, video shooting in the state in the unlock-2 period on 23-July-2020. CM of Punjab stated that permission seekers firstly need to submit an application to the Deputy Commissioner. DC office after consulting with Police authority could issue a letter of permission and a copy shall be endorsed to police and other consultant authorities.
Under these guidelines, while shooting no more than 50 people should be that time and must be completed in less time as much as possible. All the COVID safety norms will be applicable during shooting like screening of all members before commencement, facilities of soap or sanitiser and social distancing except who is in the front of the camera and this rule likewise applicable in the terms of wearing masks. No public crowding allowed near the shooting place, so private security personnel Must be arranged. [242]

Travel in Punjab is largely unrestricted. People are free to visit and travel within the state under the guidelines issued by the government.
Border restrictions
Registration
If you are planning travel to Punjab, aim to complete the Cross Border Travel Registration on the government's official website or the COVA App and must be home quarantine for 14 days, but, students would like to come to the state for SSB, or any other examination is not obliged to go into quarantine.[243] People who are visiting the state for only 72 hours or less, no need to do quarantine, but they need to submit self-declaration regarding their purpose of visit at the state border.[244]

Arriving from overseas
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) made it compulsory to do quarantine at their own expense for all travellers including Indian citizens returning from abroad to India. Few exceptions will be given — death in the family, pregnancy, serious illness, human distress, and parents accompanied by children below the age of 10, and approved travellers will be asked to self-isolate at home for 14 days. The download of Aarogya Setu app is compulsory for all.[245] Advisories regarding the quarantine of returnees from outside the country asymptomatic contacts in the hotel/private facilities in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic are issued by the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Punjab.[246] Travelers stranded overseas are being advised by Indian Consulates and the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.[247]
