Background

On 12 January 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed that a novel coronavirus was the cause of a respiratory illness in a cluster of people in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China, which was reported to the WHO on 31 December 2019.[2][3]

The case fatality ratio for COVID-19 has been much lower than SARS of 2003,[4][5] but the transmission has been significantly greater, with a significant total death toll.[6][4]

March 2020

On 31 March, the first case in the occupied territory of the Donetsk People's Republic, a local resident arriving from Moscow, Russia.

April 2020

On 1 April, the second case was confirmed. The patient is a child of the woman in the first case.

On 3 April, the third case was confirmed.[8]

On 17 April, the number of confirmed infections was elevated to 36.[9]

On 30 April, the health ministry of the DNR announced that there was 100 cases, of which 11 had recovered and 3 had died.[10] Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials estimated more than 400 cases in the occupied parts of Donetsk and Luhansk, and cast doubt on the DNR announcement.[11]

May 2020

By 1 May, 105 cases had been confirmed, with 16 patients discharged from hospitals and 4 fatalities.[12] On 3 May, the total number of confirmed cases rose to 120.[13]

The fifth death was reported on 8 May.[14] By 9 May, 180 cases were confirmed, of them 27 discharged and 5 deaths.[15] By 11 May, 184 cases were confirmed.[16] By 13 May, the number rose to 208.[17]

On 16 May, the total reached 246, with 36 patients discharged from hospitals.[18]

On 19 May, the number of deaths reached 7.[19] On 20 May, the total number of deaths reached 9.[20] By 21 May, the overall number of confirmed cases reached 305, with 73 patients discharged from hospitals.[21]

June 2020

As of 13 June, 827 cases were confirmed, 38 patients had died, and 209 were discharged from hospitals.[1]
