Characters from Agarest Senki
Characters debuting in Generation 1
Leonhardt Raglan
The protagonist of Generation 1 (but he's not the protagonist) who started the process of becoming a Spirit Vessel. He has a good reason to do this, but he unfortunately gave his descendants a lot of trouble thanks to his actions.
- Ancestral Weapon: His sword Treasure Sword Of Oath.
- Awesome McCoolname: I mean really, who would name their kid Leonhardt Raglan?
- Badass: To put this in perspective, in the beginning, he renounced his humanity and station to save Ellis (in a sense, doing a g-rated equivalent to flipping the bird to one of the most powerful kingdoms in the nation). After this, he proceeds to beat the crap out of his former squad, including his former second in command and his superior.
- Badass Family: The head of it! He's a badass, the wife he eventually marries is a badass, their son is a badass, their daughter-in-law is a badass... it's just five continuous generations of badasses breeding together.
- Badass Longcoat: He wears one himself.
- Badass Normal: Before his contract with Dyshana. Stood up against his superior and his men and was still able to win.
- The Chosen One: Him and his entire descendants get chosen to be the seal to an evil god who started this mess.
- Comically Missing the Point: Winfield talks about hot springs, and Leo's reaction is to boil eggs. Not as bad as his son Ladius though.
- Curb Stomp Battle: He starts out in the game as a fairly decent fighter. He gets worf'd by the Dark Knight after two battles.
- Deal with the Devil: In a sense he did with Dyshana, but it was more for a noble cause. Unfortunately, his descendants don't seem like the idea.
- Decoy Protagonist: He's in the artwork and promotional videos, and his name and image are present in the opening. He's not the protagonist of the game, however; it's his great-great-grandson Rex who's the protagonist.
- Disc One Nuke: Every single Agarest player out there would tell you to keep Leo because of his Willpower skills. His Energy + Unleash All + Parry = easy SP gain.
- Dreaming of Things to Come: He dreamed that he would be killed by a black knight. Three minutes later, he just did.
- The Dulcinea Effect: Somewhat. He'd fight to the death for ANYONE, Ellis was just the tipping point.
- Fashion Dissonance: Uhh, he's a military officer (a general at that!) of a kingdom army but why does he wear a biker outfit?
- Flash Step: In the second game, he gets this special treatment in his moving animation. Must be the result of his popularity.
- The Hero: In the first generation.
- Heroes Prefer Swords: His starting weapon.
- Hero with Bad Publicity: He's hated by the other nobles.
- Implausible Fencing Powers: In the second game. Three quick strikes to your opponent counts as one hit!? Must be all that popularity...
- Lolicon: At least according to Luana...
- Master Swordsman: His nickname is credited to his skill in battle and the appearance of his sword.
- Meaningful Name: Leonheardt has the heart of a lion.
- Normally I Would Be Dead Now: And if Dyshana didn't show up, we'd get no game!
- Popularity Power: Out of every single Idea Factory/Compile Heart game, he's at the top of the line as to who people want at Agarest Senki 2.
- And he does it again for Compile Heart's new game, Attouteki Yuugi Mugen Souls.[1]
- Posthumous Character: After the second generation.
- Prequel Hook: What the significance of that Treasure Sword of Oath will be touched on Agarest Senki ZERO.
- Red Baron: Golden Leo.
- Road Cone: Before Agarest Senki Zero was even released, Leo ruled out everyone but Friedelinde or Routier for Sieghart, and Mimel for Leonis... Unless Leonhardt is Not Quite Human.
- There's one thousand years between Agarest Senki and Agarest Senki ZERO. Pretty sure the line would have been diluted by then.
- Rousing Speech: Over a boulder blocking their way. No kidding.
- Single-Stroke Battle: His first EX Skill one-slashing a group of enemies.
- Super Mode: Unleash All. Obscenely high stat boosts that trigger whenever Leonhardt is at or below 25% health. In all honesty, there is no single enemy or boss that can really stand up to him when he's in that state. While his descendants and his ancestors get it as well, Leonhardt's notable in that he's the only one who gets it as his first Willpower.
- Supporting Leader
- Sword of Plot Advancement: His golden sword is pretty much used by his descendants.
- Fridge Logic: Why you could not equip that sword, even though the protagonists of each generation are seen holding it, is beyond this troper. I mean, the sword itself has some pretty good stats, but you don't get to use it in gameplay until the True Ending path. At least Radiata Stories had some kind of justification for it, but not this game. The stats of the sword could have really saved Leo from Vashtor.
- Sword Pointing: Does this all the time in cutscenes.
- Too Good for This Sinful Earth: At first.
- True Companions: Weaponized with Absolute End.
- White Prince: At least in Luana's eyes, he is one. In actuality though, he's more of a...
- Wise Prince: He's a noble who ended up kicking off the events of the game by realizing how screwed up his country was and trying to fight against it.
- You Can't Fight Fate: He is actually Agarest Senki ZERO's protagonist Sieghait descendant and was fated to become a Spirit Vessel anyway ever since he was born.
Dyshana
The woman who gave Leonhardt and his descendants their destiny. Not much is known about her when you first encounter her.
She is actually one-half of Chaos sent by Chaos himself to destroy and rebuild the world because he sees that the world itself is getting out of hand.
- Deal with the Devil: She gave it to Leonhardt when she first met him who was nearly dying of wounds.
- Defrosting Ice Queen: It takes quite a long time for this...
- Louis Cypher: She's part of Chaos.
- Ms. Fanservice: The first one (unless you're into Ellis)!
- Bare Your Midriff
- Male Gaze: Your first CG is with her with a full body shot showing off her breasts and abs.
- Stripperific
- Underboobs
- Mysterious Waif: Really, nothing is known about her other than telling the Raglan family about their destiny.
- Power Gives You Wings: Gets 6 of them in Chaos Dyshana mode.
- When She Smiles: Everyone agrees she is the cutest thing ever
- You Gotta Have Blue Hair: Is that aquamarine or what?
Ellis
The first female character encountered in the game. She was cornered by a group of soldiers and was saved by Leonhardt. Falls in love with him and promises to take care of his descendants
- Cannot Hold Her Liquor: Gets drunk quite easily.
- Cannot Spit It Out: She falls in love with Leonhardt, but she could not spit it out (being twelve years old at that time). She takes care of his descendants herself to represent her love for him.
- Conveniently an Orphan: In a new scene in Agarest Senki Zero's Digest Mode for the first game, it's revealed that Teonor is not really her grandfather, but simply found her in a sealed room on Erin with only a staff and note from her mother. This was her other reason for taking care of Leonhardt's descendants.
- Cry Cute: To Duran when she thinks that Duran is dying from exhaustion.
- Deadpan Snarker: What she becomes from the second generation till the fifth.
- Kana Ueda
- Kid with the Leash: She's Borgnine's master.
- Our Elves Are Different: One of the last pure blooded high elves who are living.
- Rose-Haired Girl
- She's All Grown Up: From the second generation.
- Team Mom: She takes care of the descendants of Leonhardt moreso than the rest.
- Zettai Ryouiki: As both a child and adult, her outfits have this.
Borgnine
A larva accidentally summoned by Ellis. Leonhardt sees him and thinks he's an enemy who is going to eat Ellis; obviously, he fights him. The fight gets Cut Short after Ellis clears up the misunderstanding. He at first does not have any emotion whatsoever, but begins to develop emotions the farther the story goes.
- The Big Guy: Only Arbol is bigger than him.
- Brought Down to Normal: Whenever he's summoned to another world, his strength gets cut down so much.
- But Now I Must Go: Tells this to Ellis that he has to go so that he could tell the other larvae what emotion is.
- Dark Is Not Evil: I mean, seriously, anyone would have suspected this guy to be evil when you first meet him. Until Ellis clears things up for Leo and the players.
- God Was My Co-Pilot: In unleashing combos at least.
- Guardian Entity: What he was basically summoned as.
- I'm a Humanitarian: Eats Winfield per orders from Ellis. Even he doesn't wanna do it either.
- Our Gods Are Different: Larvae are considered as lesser gods in this game.
Vira-Lorr
An onerthes who could see the future, but cannot anymore due to the visions being dark. All she sees is Leonhardt, his fate and his descendants. She has a third eye which she does not bother hiding even though her kind is being hunted.
- Magic Knight: When you first get her, she can equip both wands and swords.
- The Tease: She loves to flirt and mess with peoples heads, which fits with her being The Trickster in general.
- Waif Prophet: Well formerly.
Zerva
A syrium who fights against the Gridamas due to the fact that his kind has been persecuted. He's also the older brother of Fyuria. Initially, he hates Leonhardt due to the fact that his kind is being persecuted, but later develops a strong sense of friendship with him. He later promises Leonhardt that he would take care of his descendants.
- Dark Is Not Evil: Despite being a syrium, and in general looking like a stereotypical JRPG villian, he's one of Leonhardt and his descendants' most loyal allies.
- Hell-Bent for Leather
- Older Than They Look: He's at least 160 years old when Leonhardt meets him.
- Proud Warrior Race Guy: At first. He mellows out by the second generation.
- Sinister Scythe: His default weapon.
Winfield
A normal human who stole the Bracelet of the Covenant and is cursed to live a long life and that it slowly turns him into one of the Dark Knights. Whoever holds the bracelet is tasked to give it to the evil god and therefore cannot die until his purpose is finished. Of course, Winfield wouldn't want any of that so he joins the party.
- Badass Abnormal: Abnormal by human standards at least, thanks to that bracelet.
- Badass Longcoat
- Badass Long Hair
- Big Brother Mentor: To Thoma in the third generation, much to Ellis' dismay.
- Butt Monkey: You'd feel sorry for this guy.
- Chewing the Scenery: With Thoma, especially at the hot springs.
- Chivalrous Pervert: Oh so much.
- Cursed with Awesome: His curse is that he gets to be one of the Dark Knights if he doesn't find a way to get rid of that Bracelet. That and the fact that he has to bring it to an evil god. The catch, however? He can't die because of it which helps out the party.
- Hand Cannon: You can let him equip one and he wields it one handed!
- Hidden Depths: Much of his behavior is largely an act to cope with his losses and his curse. By the fourth generation, his frustration with his immortality, and its strain on his soul starts to become so obvious even Dyshana comments on it.
- Hot Springs Episode: Every single hot springs episode ends with him getting beaten up by Borgnine.
- "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Guess where Thoma learned it from?
- Revenge: Why he went to steal the bracelet was because his girlfriend died during the invasion of the Gridamas empire.
- Sidetracked by the Analogy: Happens when Leonhardt thinks about boiling eggs in a hot spring. He quickly catches himself doing this and gets back to the matter at hand.
- Spanner in the Works: Let's just say that Summeril would have been able to complete his evil plan if the bracelet just didn't choose Winfield.
Fyuria
One of the three love interests of the first generation. She is a syurium herself and is the younger sister of Zerva. She initially hates Leonhardt mainly due to the fact that she hates humans, but as time goes on, she accepts Leonhardt and even loves him by the end of the first generation.
- Action Girl
- Broken Bird: Can we really blame her for despising all Gridamas army after what they've done to her?!
- Dual-Wielding: Wields daggers.
- Expy: Of Hatsune Miku.
- Fragile Speedster: As is standard for Thief type characters, she's quick, but she goes down easily.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Yeah, she really acts like a jerkass, but she's got a sweet heart deep down.
- Older Than They Look: Leonhardt sure was surprised of the fact that she is waaaaaaaaaay older than him.
- Stripperific: Just look at her outfit. It's amazing she even classifies as being clothed.
- Too Many Belts: This is pretty much her clothes.
- Tsundere: She's a Type A variant, acting frigid and hostile.
- Used to Be a Sweet Kid
- You Gotta Have Blue Hair
Luana
One of the three love interests of the first generation. She meets the party while she was surrounded by monsters. Trying to act like a Damsel in Distress, she thinks she could manipulate the party. She grants them an audience to the king of Rigulus.
- Improbable Weapon User: The official name of her weapon is a breaker. How she uses it is another story.
- Stepford Smiler: She does have a genuine smile, but her hatred for Gridamas is stronger than hate itself.
- Swiss Army Weapon: Her weapon can be fused into one, and she throws it by spinning it behind her then launch it at the enemy.
- Wrong Genre Savvy: Goes to play as a Damsel in Distress waiting for her white prince with a white steed after being cornered by monsters. Too bad for her, this game is all about war drama.
Elaine Reinbach
One of the three love interests of the first generation. She is a general of Gridamas who goes with Leonhardt in his quest to make right of what is wrong in Lucrellia.
- Arranged Marriage: She did love Leonhardt before meeting him.
- Blade on a Stick: Her Weapon of Choice.
- Forgotten Childhood Friend
- Lady of War: She's a general of Gridamas.
- Lethal Chef: Leo even compares it to death on a battlefield.
- Nice Hat: Her cool little winged hat thingy.
- Royals Who Actually Do Something: Like Leonhardt, she's a noble who is quite active in trying to help people.
- Shoulders of Doom: Has one large lion head shaped spaulder.
- Technical Pacifist
Characters debuting in Generation 2
Ladius Raglan/Ladifour Von Busser
Son of Leonhardt and the protagonist of the second generation. He is also the adopted son of Howell Von Busser due to the fact that Von Busser doesn't have any children. Serious, calm and diligent, he's always committed like his father to do what is right. After putting down a rebellion, he gets accused as the guy who started the rebellion, so he took his loyal men and ran all the way to another country just to escape. This nearly also cost his friendship with his childhood friend Valeria.
Depending on who you marry, his armor would either be red, blue or silver.
- Awesome McCoolname: Has two of them.
- Because Destiny Says So: Sadly, this makes him the most hated protagonist of all generations.
- Caught in the Rain: More like he and the rest of the party fall down into a cave. You get to choose among the three love interests as to who accompanies him.
- Chaste Hero: The most chaste one out of the five!
- Expy: Red!Ladius looks a little like a certain spikey haired protagonist we all know of.
- Generation Xerox: His storyline is pretty much what would happen if Leo instead was a serious guy and is oblivious to the feelings of women.
- Heroes Prefer Swords: No matter who you choose to be the mother and have a different weapon for him, in cutscenes, he's always carrying Leo's sword.
- Homeless Hero: He gets driven out from his home after the start of his arc.
- Knight in Shining Armor: He's the only one who wears an armor in his family.
- Love You and Everybody: Does not know the meaning of romance at all.
- Valeria caught on this one very badly: when she asks him whether he has someone he likes or not, he says the person is right in front of him, think you locked Valeria's ending? No, he then says that in front of him and everyone else.
- Married to the Job
- Mistaken for Gay: Take a look at most of his tropes. Now consider the fact that he apparently spends more time with Zerva and Vashtor than any of the women in the group. Is it any wonder Sherufanir starts to wonder for a little while?
- Not Distracted by the Sexy: Count how many times he's been in a situation, and he goes "uh ok".
- Oblivious to Love: This guy does not know the meaning of love.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: Personality wise, he is the blue oni to Valeria's red oni.
Vashtor [2]
A man Ladius found in a beach one day. Since he has an amnesia, he decides to say with Ladius until his memories come back. During that time, he teaches Ladius on swordsmanship and is well-known in Graccea as the best swordsman in that country. He is pretty much considered to be the greatest threat to the Von Busser household.
He's actually the Dark Knight who curb stomped Leo when he first encountered him.
- The Atoner: If you let him redeem himself. He's got a lot of atoning to do when you find out his past in Agarest Senki ZERO (of course, most of them were not his fault).
- Badass Cape
- Badass Creed:
Vashtor: Fool, your existence itself is a already a sin. Then I will show you, the fate that is carved on you, the price would be your life though... Suffer the eternal suffering, in the rift of the worlds! Crux Judgement!
- Bowdlerise: He clearly says "Crucifixion", but the translators changed it instead.
- Blood Knight: Averted: his design cries for this, but he is actually very calm.
- Dangerously Genre Savvy
- The Dragon: He was working for Summerill.
- Easily Forgiven: Though some people were not willing to just forgive him for the things he did, Rex was willing to and brought most of the group around.
- Evil All Along: He isn't, is, and isn't again. Long story short: he was Brainwashed and Crazy, he got better, eventually remembered what he had done, goes back to Summerill in hopes that he'll forget himself again, but ultimately ends up being The Atoner.
- Foil: For his Agarest Senki ZERO version.
- Heel Face Revolving Door
- Interface Spoiler: He has the same extend area and weapon design as the Dark Knight.
- Laser-Guided Amnesia: He lost his memories when Leo defeats him in the first generation.
- Master Swordsman: The best one in Graccea.
- The Mentor: To Ladius on swordsmanship.
- The Mole
- Obviously Evil: Well, you may think so at first, but he lost his memory, so he really is on your side... at least, until he regains his memory about halfway through the fourth generation. Just when you were starting to think he WOULDN'T betray you.
- The Plan: Even when he was on the enemy side. Basically, it involves destroying a fort just to kill everyone. Even if the party survived, the enemies would be able to counterattack.
- Red Baron: Crimson Fang.
- Redheaded Hero: Also an Evil Redhead, depending on when you want to check in.
Arbol
A ryulent who accompanies Ladius and his descendants, just so that he could see the outside world and that he can find his resting place.
- Gameplay and Story Segregation: In any cutscene, he has been described as a huge guy. Gameplay wise, however, he's just as large as your own units.
- Glass Cannon: For a walking tree, he sure can't take a lot of hits.
- Nature Hero: He's a giant walking tree.
- Speech Impediment: Well, more like he says just some random stuff to the point that most of the time, you don't understand what he's trying to say.
Sharona
The chief of a syrium village, she wants to escape it all and go outside for an adventure of a lifetime. Just don't ask her age.
- The Alcoholic: It's not clear how often she drinks, but she is said to be on par with Vira-Lorr at it, and at one point supposedly emptied the entire ale supply of her village.
- Everything's Better with Spinning: She can fling that weapon with a chain in hand.
- Jumped At the Call: And left the position of Da Chief to someone else.
- Though, she doesn't really have any part in the story at all. She's just in for the adventure.
- Meganekko
- Vain Sorceress: She often compares her age to human age instead of the standard syrium age.
Valeria
One of the three love interests of the second generation. A childhood friend of Ladius, their friendship gets tested when Ladius decides to break free from prison and fulfill his destiny. At first, she feels betrayed, but soon enough, she gets to accompany him later on and become one of the three chosen women.
- Blade on a Stick: Her Weapon of Choice.
- Clingy Jealous Girl: Oh so much.
- Heroes Want Redheads: She is the canon choice of the second generation. The game will default to her if you can't choose anyone else, and Zero's digest mode has her as default choice too.
- Lady of War: Is a general of Grugund.
- Stripperific
- Unlucky Childhood Friend or Victorious Childhood Friend: If you have all three women at Love aka at blushing, you get to choose whether she marries Ladius or not.
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: One of her events has her panicking over a rather large bug.
Yayoi
One of the three love interests in the second generation. She is a priestess of Yamato in Alzai Fen who was supposed to be sacrificed to a "god", but was rescued by Ladius and the gang after finding out that it's only a larva who got Drunk on the Dark Side. She then accompanies Ladius in his quest to save Graccea.
- Japanese Honorifics: Calls every single party member as Party Member-sama.
- Miko: Her design brings this to mind.
- Sacrificial Lamb: At least, that was the idea...
- Yamato Nadeshiko: She can cook really well. What ingredients she uses however is an entirely different thing.
- Yum Yum: The poster girl at Aksys' website for Agarest!
Sherufanir
One of the three love interests of the second generation. She is one-half neocollom and one-half human with the blood of a priest related to god (or so it goes). She accompanies Ladius on his adventure to save Graccea, but she does not want to fight at all.
- Bound and Gagged: By the heroes no less! Justified due to her nature as a half and half. Which side of the family triggers the cause is unknown.
- Impossibly Low Neckline: Just take a look at her official artwork.
- Little Black Dress: She wears one, as you see.
- Lunacy: Every full moon, she becomes uncontrollably energetic. She's not sure if it's due to her divine blood, or her Neocolom blood.
- Petting Zoo People
- Three Faces of Eve: She would be the Seductress of the three.
Characters debuting in Generation 3
Thoma Raglan
The main protagonist of the third generation. He loves women and he hates cold places, both of which is the setting of his arc. He initially accompanies the gang just to find someone who could give out clues on getting rid of Winfield's bracelet, as well as being the seal on the continent of Fendias. It is when the continent is being overrun by the dark forces, and the fact that discrimination among elves is rampant is when he takes an active role in his story.
He can either have a white suit with white hair, a blue suit with blond hair, or a black suit with black hair depending on who you marry.
- Anything That Moves: Will hit on any woman, his mom if given half the chance, his Blood Brothers granddaughter, and a Hermaphrodite goddess!
- Technically, he draws the line at his mom. His real mother anyway. In Agarest Senki Zero, he does mention to her though that if she weren't his mother, he'd make a pass at her too.
- Bring It On: Whenever he draws his sword in cutscenes, he always does the "bring it on" hand gesture.
- Can't Act Perverted Toward a Love Interest: Subverted HARD. Lavinia gets as much of it as Ellis.
- Chewing the Scenery: With Winfield whenever these two are gonna pull off their antics. Taken Up to Eleven when they're going to a peek at the hot spring like their life is on the line. Borgnine beats them up anyway at Ellis' orders.
- Chivalrous Pervert: Being raised up by Winfield did this to him, much to Ellis' dismay.
- Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Less of a moron, more of a badass.
- Expy: To Western people, they all think that Thoma (you let Ladius marry Yayoi in this case) looks like Yuri Lowell. Of course, anyone who has done their research would tell you otherwise.
- Heroes Prefer Swords: See Ladius' entry above.
- Lovable Sex Maniac: He does get three girls falling in love with him.
- My Name Is Not Durwood: Always corrects Noah whenever she calls him Trauma.
- Obfuscating Stupidity: Well, he's a Raglan.
Plum
A nelth girl who the party meets at Paillene. She is the only one who could design the Achilles' Heel of Winfield's bracelet and as such goes off with the party on an adventure to help build it.
- Jumped At the Call
- Older Than They Look: Much much older. Even Thoma couldn't handle her due to the fact that she always talks to him like she was an older sister or a mother.
- Rose-Haired Girl
- Tenchi Solution: Suggests it toward the end of the fifth generation. Doesn't happen.
Ganz
A greer the party meets at Twulan. He claims that he's the only one who could build the very thing that could destroy Winfield's bracelet, but only if he has the materials for it. He joins the party to look for said materials.
- Blade on a Stick: His Weapon of Choice.
- Boisterous Bruiser
- Death From Above: All of his EX Combination Skills with the other party members end with him drilling the enemy from above.
- Jumped At the Call: Since he claims he's the only one who could build the MacGuffin to destroy the bracelet, he joins the party to search for the materials.
- Mighty Glacier: Yeah, we can say Borgnine and Vashtor fit this mold too, but Ganz's starting AP (as important to turn order as Agility, as well as the limit to which one can take actions) looks to be particularly bad: his starting gear does not seem to rectify this one bit.
Alberti
A young man who fell in love with The Chief's Daughter (said chief is also considered to be That One Boss fyi). Unfortunately, when he saw that the Chief was having a deal with the Dark Knight, he got exiled for it. He plans to bring her back when Thoma shows up.
He is also the only normal human and thus, he ages quite noticeably.
- Ascended Fanboy: Idolized Thoma and becomes the caretaker of Duran and Rex.
- Badass Normal: He's a normal human being and yet he can keep up with the party.
- Cool Old Guy: In the fourth generation.
- Badass Grandpa: In the fifth generation.
- Dual-Wielding: He uses daggers.
- Growing Up Sucks: Averted. Growing up for him made him even more awesome.
- Happily Married: And produces from his offspring a Badass Action Girl granddaughter.
- Older and Wiser: By fourth generation.
- Red Baron: Death Dealer.
- Star-Crossed Lovers: With Nastassja. At least, until Thoma came around and fixed things.
Lavinia
One of the three love interests of the third generation. She is one half high elf and one half dark elf which, unfortunately, dark elves are considered to be evil, and so she was ostracized by other high elves. She first meets the party at Tweda Forest and was "rescued" by Winfield and Thoma. She takes them to Lus Soleil where she was reunited with her younger sister Faina. After saving her home, she accompanies Thoma on his mission to look for materials to break Winfield's bracelet and to save the continent.
- The Chief's Daughter: She's also the daughter that got banished from the elf village.
- Dark-Skinned Redhead: Complete with Eyes of Gold.
- Fantastic Racism: Hated for having a dark elf skin even though she's half and half.
- Heroes Want Redheads: The game defaults to her if no other choice can be made. Zero's digest mode has her as the canon choice as well.
- Hot Chick with a Sword
- My Sister Is Off-Limits: Tries this with Thoma. It doesn't work seeing how Faina is also a Love Interest.
- Sibling Yin-Yang: With Faina.
- Stripperific: Fendias is the coldest continent of Agarest Senki with some snow areas, and Lavinia only wears a bikini with some chains. The biggest trope example for this game.
- Tsundere
Faina
One of the three love interests of the third generation and Lavinia's younger sister. From a very long time, she's a sickly girl who always collapses for some weird reason. She gets reunited with her sister after a long time and joins the party specifically to be with Lavinia, but also longs for the outside world.
- Big Eater: She sure can eat a lot despite the fact that she's sick.
- Fantastic Racism: Subverted. Even though she's a half high elf-dark elf like her older sister, she doesn't look like one herself so she doesn't get as much discrimination as Lavinia. She was even considered to be the next chief of the village.
- Ill Girl: Her illness tends to come up quite often in her events, either momentarily collapsing due to it or trying to get strong enough to keep up despite it.
- Sibling Yin-Yang: With Lavinia, although they really care for each other.
- Zettai Ryouiki: Grade B. Bonus points due to the fact that aside from her face and elbows, it's the only skin showing (incredibly odd for Agarest).
Noah
One of the three love interests in the third generation. She first meets up with the party at Aulis Lake while the party is looking for one of the ingredients for the MacGuffin to destroy Winfield's bracelet. She is an adventurer due to the fact that she just loves adventuring and that she can tell stories to one of the kids at the orphanage.
- Action Girl: Uses fists as her weapons.
- Bare Your Midriff
- Cleavage Window
- Collector of the Strange: She has a rather large collection of random artifacts. In one scene involving them, they all end up doing something horrible to Winfield, or in the end, her and Thoma depending on your choice.
- Curtains Match the Window: Blue eyes, blue hair.
- Cute Bruiser
- Genki Girl
- Good Old Fisticuffs: Her Weapon of Choice.
- Jumped At the Call: She joins the party just because she thinks that there will be more adventures.
- Lady of Adventure
- No Sense of Direction: At least it's not as bad as the rest of the other examples, and besides, give her a break: they got lost IN A CAVE! WITH A BUNCH OF SCRAPS!
- Shoryuken
- Waif Fu
- You Gotta Have Blue Hair
Characters debuting in Generation 4
Duran Raglan
Son of Thoma and the fourth generation protagonist. Whatever his father Thoma was, Duran is the complete opposite. Whereas Thoma was a jolly fellow, Duran is more of a withdrawn guy who hates being the next Spirit Vessel.
The only noticeable change that you can see in Duran as to who you let Thoma marry, is that he can have either blue, red or blond hair. Hint: their shirt color matches their mother's hair color.
- Bare Your Midriff
- Character Development: The most noticeable of the five protagonists.
- Dark-Skinned Redhead: If you chose Lavinia in the third generation. Like her, he comes with Eyes of Gold.
- Heroes Prefer Swords: See Ladius' entry above.
- Heroic RROD: Part of his generation has him bedridden and near death for overworking himself while ill.
- Jerkass -> Jerk with a Heart of Gold
- Refusal of the Call: He refuses his call at first, but willingly accepts it in the end.
Qua
A neocollom the party meets near Tenedos. At first, she tries to attack the party, but is later saved by the very people she attacked. Since then, she joins the party just to tag along.
- Action Girl
- Bunny Girl
- Cute Bruiser
- Genki Girl
- Heroic Wannabe: Tries to keep the city of Tenedos safe. Unfortunately, she causes more trouble than saving it.
- Love Interest: You'd think with Duran due to their chemistry of both of them arguing all the time. She's not an option for Duran.
Fer
The best treasure hunter in the world (or so he claims). He meets the party at Crystal Lake while he was looking for treasure. He joins the party because he think he could find more treasure if he joins with the party.
- Big Damn Heroes: Saves Ellis from a defecting Vashtor by swinging out of nowhere.
- Expy: His mannerisms look like he's Noah from the third generation.
- Hyperspace Arsenal: What the hell's inside that bag of his!?
- Older Than They Look: Looks like a kid but is actually in his twenties when he meets the party.
- Tagalong Kid: When you're surrounded by people who are at least 100 years old, you really still think he's a kid?
Reverie
A yulishee who the party meets at Crystal Lake when they were looking for a Rainbow Shard. She decides to help them, aware of the fact that she gets exiled if she helps them out. She goes with it nonetheless due to the fact that she wants to travel around the world anyway.
Hilda/Hildegarde
One of the three love interests of the fourth generation and captain of the Death-Cross pirates. She will lend her boat only if the party gives her a Marfile fruit. When she does finally receive one, she joins the party to search for the Rainbow Shard and along the way develops an interest with Duran.
- Badass in Distress: After leaving the party on a good note, some traitors tied her up after feeding her some sleeping drink.
- Guns Akimbo: Her Weapon of Choice is a pair of pistols.
- Lady in Red
- Pirate Girl: She's the captain of the Death-Cross pirates.
Silvi
One of the three love interests of the fourth generation. She first meets the party while the party themselves were looking for the Marfile fruit. She claims she knows the location and after which, after getting herself exiled, joins the party.
- Achilles' Heel: Douse her in salt water, and she can't fly at all.
- A Day in the Limelight: See Crowning Moment of Heartwarming.
- Determinator: Fought off against winds AND a Garvel just to get a Marfile fruit to heal Duran.
- Hot Chick with a Sword
- The Ingenue
- Let Him Die Happily: Averted, when Keith is dying he asked her to lie one last time to make him happy, but she refuses because she can't lie to her own feelings. Result-wise, she really done it though.
- Sarashi
- Underboobs
- Winged Humanoid
Ryuryu
One of the three love interests of the fourth generation, she is hailed as the most powerful fortune-teller of Enhambre. She at first tells a fortune that Duran will be with Hilda, Silvi and herself and that Duran will have to marry him. Unfortunately, she also got picked to be the sacrifice for the local demon until Duran and the party save her. She then joins due to the stipulations she placed with Dyshana.
- Goth: Her character trait.
- I Just Want to Be Normal: Deep down inside, she just wants to be like a kid.
- Waif Prophet: She's one of the few humans in the series with the same powers as an onerthes.
- You Gotta Have Blue Hair: How about violet!?
- Zettai Ryouiki
Characters debuting in Generation 5
Rex Raglan
Son of Duran, the fifth generation protagonist, and THE REAL protagonist of the game.
- Badass Boast: He loves pulling this to every enemy he fought.
- Expy: See Fan Nickname in the Trivia page.
- The Hero: The true hero of the game, since he's the one whom succeeds at the quest which has been building up over the last four generations.
- Heroes Prefer Swords: See Ladius' entry above.
- Likes Older Women: The only one who's not older than him is Murmina.
- The Messiah: Even worse than Leonhardt.
- Took a Third Option: In the True Ending, Dyshana points out three things that he can do when they reach the final pillar: get sealed so that the darkness gets pushed back, fight off the forces of darkness for a very long time, or unseal the gods and beat the crap out of 'em, even if it means that the whole world gets destroyed. No points for guessing which option he picked.
- Unwanted Harem: He out harems his ancestors, to the point that this one is weaponized as a Combination Attack with Rex, Beatrice, Qua, Murmina, Reverie and Plum with all of their EX2 attack.
- Winged Humanoid: If you let Duran marry Silvi.
- Wings Do Nothing: He only gets to use his wings as a Float skill in battles. In cutscenes, and in dungeons? You don't get to use them at all.
- Justified. Agarest Zero shows that half-harpuia can't fly as well as full-blooded harpuia, if they're even capable of flight at all.
- Wings Do Nothing: He only gets to use his wings as a Float skill in battles. In cutscenes, and in dungeons? You don't get to use them at all.
- Yin-Yang Bomb: His final EX.
Beatrice
A woman who has sailed from the different parts of the continent thanks to her eye patch. She is the granddaughter of Alberti only if you save Nastassja.
- Bathtub Bonding: With the rest of the women in the group.
- Dual-Wielding: Swords or daggers, whatever she's equipped with she'll have two of it.
- Eyepatch of Power: She's not blind however.
- Hero Worshipper: Of Thoma and the rest of the Raglan family.
- Hot Chick with a Sword
- Luminescent Blush: Cannot talk to Rex because of the fact that she admires Thoma, his grandfather and legends of the Raglan family are famous throughout the continents.
- When she finally meets with Thoma in the extended version, she blushes like crazy.
- Red Baron: Death Carrier (just like her grandfather).
- Romantic Two-Girl Friendship/Heterosexual Life Partners: With Murmina.
- Tall, Dark and Bishoujo
Murmina
The sole survivor of the harpuia race in Aegisthus. She is out for revenge on the one who killed her family led by Vashtor. Depending on your actions, you could save her, or she dies from exhaustion and from injuries.
- Bokukko: But averts every personality of it.
- Detached Sleeves
- Emotionless Girl: In the beginning. She just wants her revenge and doesn't want to have any friends.
- Grey Rain of Depression: Has this going on during a few of her scenes.
- Gun Fu: Her Weapon of Choice.
- Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Rex can talk her out of it.
- Romantic Two-Girl Friendship/Heterosexual Life Partners With Beatrice. Let's see here: for no real reason, Murmina would be dead if you didn't recruit Beatrice. They're both aware of Rex's power, but are also certain that he is not why they're able to trust each other enough to tell each other anything, and she's willing to consistently trust Beatrice with the task of helping keep her wings clean which is effectively showing that she trusts Beatrice with her life. Were it not for Rex, it wouldn't be difficult to see them as an Official Couple.
- When She Smiles: Hnnnnngh.
- Winged Humanoid
- You Gotta Have Blue Hair: She has a light blue hair.
- Zettai Ryouiki: About Grade B.
NPC Of The First Generation
Melchior
- Karma Houdini: Kills a lot of syrium, follows his evil king, lets the Dark Knight kill Leo, and he gets away with pretty much just being there.
- The Rival: To Leonhardt in almost every single way.
Largen
Musaka
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When he was defeated by Leo, he pretty much retired. Said decision to retire may or may not have been affected by the demotion and suspension that followed the events of his defeat.
- Warmup Boss
Teonor
- Doting Grandfather: To Ellis.
Gunther
Braham
- Smug Snake
- "Wake-Up Call" Boss: With Largen. While the first two bossfights in the game may have been a minor step above randoms, he and Largen will put the hurt on your party with their sizeable AP, high offense and link attack use: quickly establishing the rule to be followed that boss battles in this game aren't about if party members get killed, as much as how many die, and how often they do.
Kasibal
- Guest Star Party Member: He's a party member for the first battle only.
- Interface Spoiler: He doesn't have en experience meter or extended area.
King Hertzfeldt
- All Just a Dream: Melchior invokes this trope, but the king says otherwise.
- Authority Equals Asskicking
- Brainwashed and Crazy: He was manipulated by the Dark Knight thanks to an evil talisman.
NPC Of The Second Generation
Hailzen
Gillian
Hykezatt
Messina
Ryutai
Misselkanui
Mullentz
Balzac
Urian
Malitz
NPC Of The Third Generation
Mervis
Midas
- Authority Equals Asskicking: And don't you forget it.
- Bald of Evil: He's bald, he's one of the most difficult bosses in the game, and he's a villain.
Nastassja
- Happily Married: With Alberti if you managed to save her.
- Star-Crossed Lovers: With Alberti.
Macmuth
Reinbach
Mercer
NPC Of The Fourth Generation
Keith
- Deal with the Devil: With a traitorous Vashtor.
- I Want My Beloved to Be Happy
- Unlucky Childhood Friend: To Silvi.
- Winged Humanoid
- You Gotta Have Blue Hair: Has green hair.
NPC Of The Fifth Generation
Sarburgh
- Authority Equals Asskicking
- Large and In Charge
- Large Ham
- What Happened to the Mouse?: Umm, what exactly happened to him after you defeated Summerill in the end anyways? Granted, it's not even important due to the fact that in the True Ending, Chaos and the gods got killed, the entire world died and got reborn.
Forces Of Darkness
Summerill
The Big Bad of the game itself and the Final Boss of the fifth generation. He's the reason why the darkness is spreading throughout the continent.
- Disc One Final Boss: He's the final boss for some endings, but for others there's much more after him.
- Smug Snake: For all the hype that we finally get to kick the ass of the guy who started this, he just becomes smug about it when he loses.
- The Starscream: He reveals to the party on what he would do after reclaiming his Bracelet from Winfield: to become the god of Agarest by kicking out Chaos and the rest of the gods.
- Your Princess Is in Another Castle: So you finally defeated this guy who started this mess. Does this mean that the game is finally over and the party can finally rest? Nope, Dyshana then explains the true purpose of the pillars and what they actually do. And guess what? Summerill was apparently just in Dyshana's way.
The Dark Knight
This is the guy who curb stomped Leo while he makes Ellis flee the scene. For his other tropes, see Vashtor above.
- Authority Equals Asskicking: He's the highest ranked among the Gurgs themselves. Yes, Vashtor is up there with Summerill in terms of authority.
- Badass:
- Black Knight: Well duh!
- Rule of Three: It took three times for Leo to finally beat him. And then he comes back as Vashtor.
- The Voiceless: Until Laser-Guided Amnesia kicked in, and he became Vashtor.
Gurg
These are the other Dark Knights that are roaming around the other continents to spread the darkness. Originally, there were twelve of them, but six got killed off before the game starts.
- And I Must Scream: Part of their Brainwashed and Crazy; also, Agarest Senki Zero establishes that the Oathsworn simply seals them away in those story events.
- Brainwashed and Crazy: Try being that way for thousands of years.
- Dark Is Evil: You must really be Genre Blind if you cannot see this.
- Made of Temptation: Their modus operandi to the other countries so that they would give in to the darkness. They in turn get tempted by Summerill.
- Wolfpack Boss: So, you're used to fighting two at the same time. Let's see if you can handle fighting four at the same time (thankfully, this only happens once in the game).
The Six Gods Of Darkness
These gods are the true final bosses of the game provided that you have reached the True Ending. While they were alluded in the prologue itself, they're more of a Giant Space Flea From Nowhere. At first.
Mercury
One of the six gods of darkness, though he regrets it deeply. He at first was at the side of light, until Mobius tempted him to the dark side. He wants to go back to the light, but he can't because of his loyalty to the dark.
Mobius
The god of space and time, he is also responsible for the war of the gods thousands of years ago. He did this to kick out both Lenion and Chaos so he could become the ruler. If anything, every single conflict of the gods can be traced back to him. He is sealed in Graccea.
- Eyes Always Shut
- Let's You and Him Fight: He makes both Lenion and Chaos to fight it out so he can kick them out of their places and become the god of Agarest.
- The Starscream
Deeth
One of the six gods/goddesses that were sealed, she represents Fortune. She can appear to other people either as a man, or as a woman and just so happens to encounter Dyshana who is one-half of Chaos. Sealed at Fendias.
- Anti-Villain
- Anything That Moves: Oddly enough, she would also tap Thoma if given half the chance.
- Bare Your Midriff
- Hermaphrodite
- It Amused Me: If the reason for something she's done isn't progress, it's this.
- Single-Target Sexuality: With Chaos and Dyshana. She even says to Dyshana that s/he'll eat her and play with her.
- Sinister Scythe
- Underboobs
- War for Fun and Profit: Her reasoning being that if there's no war, there will be no progress.
- You Gotta Have Blue Hair
Nemesis
The goddess of revenge. Ironically enough, she is the most composed out of all the gods, and the only reason why she even sided with the dark was just to balance things out. She is sealed in Enhambre.
- Anti-Villain
- I Call It Vera: Subverted. Her weapon doesn't really have a name, but as time went on, her name got attached to the staff as well.
- Names to Run Away From Really Fast: Averted when you realize she's actually an incredibly nice person, then brutally invoked when she slaughters your team with a single long-range wide-area attack.
- Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Subverted as hard as possible.
- The Smurfette Principle: If you don't count Deeth as a female.
Mayastia
The god of warbattle. He seeks to have more battles just so that progress can be made. He is sealed in Aegisthus.
- Awesome McCoolname: Mayastia? Really?
- Badass Cape
- Blade on a Stick
- Fiery Redhead
- Hot-Blooded
- War for Fun and Profit: Well, he is the god of war.
Chaos
The lord of the dark night, and the god of destruction and rebirth. He initially fought against Lenion due to the fact that Lenion married the girl of his dreams and that Mobius was pushing for it. He gets to be special in that he's sealed in the Boundary Plane.
In Agarest Senki 2, Weiss kills him as a Cutscene Boss in the opening. Or does he?
- Anti-Villain: He never really does anything particularly evil or villainous. He's just largely considered evil because he's a "God of Darkness".
- Bishounen
- Cain and Abel: He's the evil Abel to Lenion's good Cain.
- Though, how much evil Chaos is would be another story.
- Opposite Gender Clone: With Dyshana.
- Red Baron: Lord of the Dark Night (please don't confuse that with the other lord of dark night), and god of destruction and rebirth.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni
- Sinister Scythe
- Star-Crossed Lovers: With Varna when Lenion marries her. One of the last few straws before the whole war of the gods started.
- White-Haired Pretty Boy
Characters from Agarest Senki Zero
Characters debuting in Generation 1
Sieghart
- Character Customization: More so than any other character. Shortly after dying in the prologue, Sieg is revived and you then pick from three class types, Warrior Battle Mage, and Sorcerer, then you pick 5 of 24 cards to determine your stats and Weapon of Choice. While you'd think this would be easy to figure out, it's not. Finally you get to pick his skill slots, half you get right from the start, half when you promote him
- Comically Missing the Point: Like Leonhardt, Sieghart's reaction to hearing about the hot springs is to boil eggs.
- Dual-Wielding: Doesn't happen with all weapon types though
- Embarrassing Nickname: Ziggy. Has no problem with Mimel calling him Zeeg though.
- Hey, It's That Voice!: Sieghart is what happens if Minato settles with a wife.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero
- Pals With Vashtor
- Running Gag: He dies just like how Leo dies in the prologue.
- Senseless Sacrifice
- Why Couldn't You Be Different?: In the Boundary Plane, he mentions that he would have preferred that Leonis had been a girl instead, right in front of Leonis.
Friedelinde
- Blade on a Stick
- Godzilla Threshold: Once she meets back up with the group, she's devastated that Sieghart has attracted a harem. There's no way she can compete. The solution? Ask Eugene how to get Sieghart to notice her.
- He Is Not My Boyfriend: The first time this comes up, you can either agree or just ignore the accusation.
- Lethal Chef: Averted. Her cooking is actually just So OK Its Average. She takes being told this about as well as if she'd been told she were a Lethal Chef though.
- Running Gag: During her attempts to put advice given to her to use, she eventually breaks down and just charges at Sieghart, or does so in response to one of your choices. This usually results in him dodging on reflex and sending her screaming over a cliff.
- Senseless Sacrifice
- Talking To Herself: If you get Dyshana in Extra Mode. She even has the same hair color!
- Tsundere: Type B. Oddly, it's Eugene that brings out her more aggressive behavior, not Sieghart.
Routier
- Hair of Gold
- Hey, It's That Voice!: Mikuru can see the future now.
- Seer
- Senseless Sacrifice
- Shrinking Violet
- Took a Level in Jerkass: In the Boundary Plane. See Niel's Butt Monkey entry.
- Vagueness Is Coming: Mixed with Futureshadowing in one event where she reads Sieg's fortune, only to be rattling off a few key events of the first game.
Sayane
- Ambidextrous Sprite: Justified. She actually is ambidextrous, and due to the extreme lack of sense of direction she has no idea which hand she holds her knife in.
- Bi the Way: While the Skinship Grope is pretty much a Running Gag in the Hot Springs Events, and typically just chalked up to the girls just playing around the event in the Boundry Plane gives us this;
Friedelinde: AH! J-Just what do you think you're doing?!
Sayane: Oh, only showing a little physical affection, to make up for all the time we've been apart.
Friedelinde: Aaah! P-Please, not in my ear!
Sayane: Oh my, have I found your weak point? *Blow*
Friedelinde: N-Not the ear!
- Half-Human Hybrid: Half Human, Half Harpuia
- Heroic BSOD Happens upon finding out it was her home town's Elder who gave the forces of Darkness a foothold in Kraltarla in exchange for being left alone.
- Knife Nut
- No Sense of Direction: To the point where the concepts of left and right are genuinely confusing to her.
- Senseless Sacrifice
- Winged Humanoid: However, unlike Silvi from the first game, her wings are just for show due to being a halfbreed.
Mimel
- Accidental Pervert / Innocent Fanservice Girl: Mimel asks to take a bath with Sieghart to play "Clean Everything" and "Tender, Soapy Embrace". He suspected she actually picked this up from Eugene, turns out it was Sayane who had been heard saying things like that.
- Adult Child: The Power of Liberation is assumed to have damaged her mind, leaving her with the mentality of a small child. In actuality she didn't have a mind of her own until just a few moments before meeting Sieghart. Deeth added this trait to her mostly just to screw with Summerill and Mobius's plans.
- Buffy-Speak: Is prone to these due to her attempts to make use of any word she learns. At worst this tends to border on being a Word Mangler.
- Cool Big Sis
- Dark Is Not Evil
- Do Not Call Me Mimelia
- Heroic Sacrifice: In the Normal Ending. She and Leonis give their lives to contain the blast from Mila.
- Hey, It's That Voice!: It's Misao without the hyperactivity.
- Literal Split Personality She is the Light half of Mimelia
- Meaningful Name Mimelia apparently means Superlative Actress.
- Replacement Love Interest Her explanations make it sound as though Deeth made her as a replacement for Varna for Chaos. He treated her more like a daughter and requested she be unmade when he realized something was wrong with her.
- Sinister Scythe
- Third Person Person: She starts this way, but gets over it pretty quickly as she figures out how to properly communicate with people.
- Together in Death: Normal Ending
- Tareme Eyes
- Underboob Window
- Welcome Back, Traitor After splitting with Mila she rejoins the group.
- Yum Yum: Takes a "Banana Bath" with Tetora.
Alice
- Expy to Ellis. Starting with the name and going from there we've got a pink haired Elf with a monstrous bodyguard that fights with staffs. She even has the same Extended Area and game breaking EX Skill that Ellis had.
- Amusingly, given that the series already has one, she's also likely to be mistaken for one for Hatsune Miku's append design. Thinner Twin Tails, a small chest, exposed feet, and the same person providing the voice. Agarest Zero was released almost a year before Miku's append.
- The General's Daughter
- Hey, It's That Voice!: Saki Fujita, better known for being the voice of Hatsune Miku.
- Ms. Exposition: Toward the start of the second generation she'll explain each character's role in raising Leonis, to Leonis.
- Our Elves Are Different: High Elf
- Team Mom: During the second generation.
Galios
- Blade on a Stick: This guy uses two at once!
- Covert Pervert
Galios: "Have you not noticed that our party lacks for young women? We must collect some who at least appear young--"
Alice: "I beg your pardon, Galios... What did you just say?"
Galios: "Come now, master. Surely you are not losing your hearing already..."
Alice: "Galioooooos!"
- Gentle Giant: When not in battle anyway.
- Guardian Entity
- Mighty Glacier: Rides the line between this and Stone Wall. You can push him one way or the other.
- Oh Crap: His reaction to being seen by Linda in her Hot Spring outfit. In the outfit description but not the scene that unlocks it at least.
- Our Gods Are Different: He's a Larva
- Shrinking Violet: Surprisingly, he comes off as this pretty quick into the game thanks to another Shrinking Violet thanking him. Given that Larvae are supposed to be emotionless and he's not, coupled with his appearance it's not too surprising. He's not quite as bad as most examples though.
Eugene
- Abusive Parent: Doesn't seem to think too highly of Niel, and mentions it. Often. He does actually care about him though, and may mention it if he's not around.
- Almighty Janitor: Was temporarily promoted after Sieghart died, but was promptly demoted back to his old rank once Leonis was old enough to take command. He's ok with that.
- Berserk Button: He begins losing his hair sometime between the two generations. You're best to avoid mentioning it.
- Chivalrous Pervert
- Crazy Prepared: Take a look at Niel's Big Damn Hero moment. Eugene had anticipated such an attack and if you brought Niel along he has him go into hiding for it.
- Hot Dad: As of the second generation.
- Obfuscating Stupidity: Did this as part of his attempts to push Sieghart and Friedelinde forward in rank. Unfortunately for him, his real personality slowly faded away to this. His old self does come out on rare occasions still.
- Shipper on Deck: Wants Friedelinde to end up with Sieghart and is willing to legitimately help her out when asked.
- Sidetracked By The Missed Point: Like with Leonhardt & Winfield, Eugene finds himself sidetracked when Sieghart talks about boiling eggs in a hot spring. He quickly catches himself doing this and gets back to the matter at hand.
- What the Hell, Hero?: Gets called out by the party about his emotional abuse toward Niel more than a couple times. Especially treating Leonis as more of a son than his own.
Tetora /Lemona Hoch
- Bandage Babe: She's this for a good portion of the second generation. She goes back to the look in the the post-game, simply because she feels it looks nice.
- Big Eater: Apparently has something to do with being a mage. She eats enough that after Eugene had first offered to buy her dinner, every time food is discussed around Tetora it horrifies him.
- Catgirl
- Happily Adopted: By Apli and Thrisasaz
- Lunacy: Like Sherufanir a full moon makes her excessively energetic. Incidentally this shows it was due to being a Neocolom.
- Nature Hero
- Sinister Scythe
- Yum Yum: Takes a "Banana Bath" with Mimel.
Cal-Vina
- Gameplay and Story Segregation: See Improbable Weapon User
- Improbable Weapon User: Breakers. Why anyone let a man who'll "Peel his hand when asked to peel an apple" use one of these is a mystery.
- Lethal Joke Character: In the first game Breaker using chracters were almost unusable due to a poor combination of stats and skill slots, as well as the weapons themselves not usually having skill slots that would compliment their own stats nor the setup of the character they were statistically good for. Cal-Vina does not have this problem, or at least not as much, to the point where he comes with the Double Needle combo skill and later on gains access to several passive abilities that ramp up any and potentially all of his stats and his ultimate EX Skill will actually destroy your enemies' SP, making it harder for them to use their own.
- Magic Is a Monster Magnet
- Weak but Skilled: Compared to other Onerthes his ability to see the future is almost non-existant. However when he does see something it's typically incredibly accurate and important.
- Though it can be argued that Vira-Lorr would've seen the same vision a mile back.
Apli
- Aesop Amnesia: Averted. After escaping from the cursed mirror, Apli forgets everything that happened in there except for the Aesop; The Power of Friendship.
- Early-Bird Cameo: Does't join until the second generation
- Fantastic Racism: Hates Humans and Half-Breeds
- Hey, It's That Voice!: Since when was Yui level headed and calm?
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold
- Our Fairies Are Different
- Our Gods Are Different: Rem Lorient can eventually become Larvae, though it is incredibly rare. Apli hopes to make this transformation.
- Shout-Out: A few numbers off but Forever 24?
- One of her alternate outfits has her fit in more in a Console War than Agarest War.
- Token Mini-Moe: Lampshaded. Eugene and Niel figure it would be best not to be checking her out, as it could land them in serious trouble.
- Try to Fit That on A Business Card combined with a bit of Badass Boast
Apli: "I am Apli April, of the Rem Lorient. I am servent to none; a wandering lotus flower born in moonlight. I am pleased to make your acquaintance."
Tetora: "Goodness me, it's been rather long since I've heard the whole thing."
Characters debuting in Generation 2
Leonis
- Cruel Mercy: Hits Vashtor with this hard.
- Dual-Wielding: Like Seighart he dualwields a good number of his potential weapon types.
- Heroic Sacrifice: In the Normal Ending. He and Mimel give their lives to contain the blast from Mila.
- Hey, It's That Voice!: Hope Estheim with a lot more back bone and a lot more responsibility.
- Identical Friend: Blonde!Leonis is mentioned as being able to pass as Niel's twin.
- Like Brother and Sister with Mimel. Or not. Your call.
- Likes Older Women: All of his potential love interests are older than he is.
- Metaphorgotten
"If you are about to eat a meal, you might say a prayer or somesuch, yes? But you would not say you were sorry. Well, I think this is much the same. Instead of apologizing to your meal, would it not be better to thank it? Better from the eater's point of view, of course, not necessarily the meal's. So from now on, instead of apologizing... I think it better for you to begin giving thanks instead. Um...That is what I was getting at, at least. Things may have gotten a little...confusing."
- Red String of Fate: Mentioned in the Normal Ending.
- Together in Death: Normal Ending
- Wife Husbandry: Gender Flipped. As with Rex, almost all of his love interests had a hand in raising him.
Dana
- The Blacksmith
- Can Not Tell a Lie
- Fiery Redhead
- Good Old Fisticuffs
- Like a God to Me: Hass Calinou
- My Greatest Failure
- Our Dwarves Are All the Same: Downplayed. While male Greer tend to fall in line with the usual images of a dwarf, Dana pretty much just has the Blacksmith thing going for her.
- Skunk Stripe
Shernini
- Cloudcuckoolander
- Defector From Decadence
- Famous Ancestor: The founder of Syriumville, where you can find Sharona in Graccea.
- Mad Scientist: Makes a Goliath Serum to increase the size of her female chickens so that there'd be bigger eggs to make 100 omelettes. The rest of the group calls her out on this, specifically that it just wouldn't work. On the eggs. She gives it to Decimal by mistake. Cue the Bonus Boss fight.
Niel
"I crush with mighty blows the chains of grim fate! I shatter with quick strikes vile conspiracies! The wandering gunman, Niel L. Lagrange, has arrived! You have been surrounded! There can be no escape for you! But I am no demon! Withdraw peacefully, and you may keep your lives! Retreat, or perish! The choice is yours!"
- Big Damn Hero: His Badass Boast was delivered after sending down a Rain of Bullets and then flying in from out of nowhere to stop a trio of Garvel from finishing off the rest of the group. Everyone is impressed that he pulled this off, even Eugene.
- Butt Monkey: He's constantly teased for how short he is, his dad treats him like crap a little over half the time, he was traumatized by Hass Calinou as a child, and then the post-game takes it to extremes such as having Routier tell him that his scenes were honestly not that great to begin with, that he should probably just roll with the mistake he made on his line to get some fans, and maybe have just changed his character entirely to a Reckless Sidekick that always almost ends up dead, but always come back just in time to take a bullet for Leonis to renew his Heroic Resolve. That last bit leaves him seriously considering killing Routier.
- Dude Looks Like a Lady: Not that it's obvious.
- Identical Friend: Blonde!Leonis is mentioned as being able to pass as his twin.
- The Napoleon
- Put on a Bus: You can choose to do this to him. This is required for the true ending.
- Schizo-Tech: Putting aside the use of guns for a moment, watch him move. The man has Rocket Boots!
- The Bus Came Back
- Turn Out Like His Father: Downplayed. He's of a smaller stature like his mother and father, has an obsession with beautiful women like Eugene, but unlike Eugene he felt that he had neither the mindset nor stature to fight with swords, so instead learned how to use guns.
- The Unfavorite
NPC Of The First Generation
Eleazal
- Hey, It's That Voice!: It's Borgnine. Makes you wonder if Eleazal became a larva to become Ellis' protector.
- My God, What Have I Done?
- Parental Neglect
- Reasonable Authority Figure
Zelger
- Like a God to Me: Hass Calinou
- Our Dwarves Are All the Same
Thrisasaz
- I Have Many Names: Not that you actually get to learn them, but apparently he has them as Apli enjoys people suffering when they try to figure them out due to being "tongue-twisters of sinister proportions.".
- Plant Person
Vashtor[3]
- Foregone Conclusion
- Our Gods Are Different: A Larva
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero
- Reasonable Authority Figure: So much so that even the greater Gods will trust him without question.

NPC Of The Second Generation
Hass Calinou
Decimal
- Badass Boast: Played for Laughs of all things as the fourth wall had to be broken for him to deliver it!
"Brawk! Buk-bukawak! (Translation: All who see me as food, step forward! With this beak, I shall destroy you!)"
- Badass Normal: He's just a chicken, but he took on Giganda and lived.
- Bonus Boss
- Cool Pet
- Eat the Dog: Shernini offers to cook him on a few occasions. He is not amused. After being given the Goliath Serum he tries to eat her.
- Refuge in Audacity: The only reason he, and by extension, the party survived their encounter with Giganda was because he attacked long enough for Niel to blind him and run. Giganda was not amused that he actually fell for it.
Rebecca
- The Ghost: You never see her, but she's mentioned repeatedly. Oddly, her name doesn't come up until the post-game though.
- Happily Married: To Eugene
- Hot Mom: A bit of a Take Our Word for It case here since you never actually see her.
- Red Baron: Witch of the Sand and Steam-Wreathed Assassin
- What Exactly Is Her Job: After hearing what she's been known as, Sieghart would really like to know.
Forces Of Darkness
Varacade
- Flash Step: He doesn't really move all that fast in game, but his moving animation displays this.
- Limp and Livid
- Twin Telepathy: This is how Ganoia finds out he's been killed.
- The Worf Effect: Kills Sieghart, only for him to be revived stronger than before. Cue Curb Stomp Battle
Ganoia
- Avenging the Villain: The only reason he's hunting down Sieghart is for killing his brother Varacade.
- Big Brother Bully: Has nothing but disdain for Varacade
- Flash Step: He doesn't really move all that fast in game, but his moving animation displays this.
- Flawed Prototype: His Gem of Might doesn't work quite right.
- Generation One Final Boss
- I Lied: Never actually says this, but the act does occur. Attacks Sayane's home town. Partly for it's purpose being done, partly because he'd gone insane.
- Limp and Livid
- Puny Humans: The only reason he even cares that Varacade died was because it was to a human, which just isn't right.
- This Cannot Be!: His last words before imploding.
- Twin Telepathy: This is how he realizes Varacade died.
- With Great Power Comes Great Insanity: Thanks to being given a Gem of Might after his first loss.
Universal Dark Knight Tropes
- Artifact of Doom: The Gems of Might
- Blood Knight
- Foregone Conclusion
- Our Gods Are Different: A Gurg
- Superpowered Mooks: Until these guys came along Garvel were pretty much the biggest threat the Forces of Darkness had to offer.
Dark Knight Vashtor
- Curb Stomp Battle: When he fights Leonis shortly after being turned into a Gurg. He's quite a bit more impressive than he was against Leonhardt.
- Cruel Mercy States that Leonis isn't worth the effort to actively finish off, and that the wounds will kill him in time and just leaves him there. Leonis says the same thing to him after their next fight.
- Dual Boss Comes at you with the assistance of an unidentified Gurg the second time you fight him.
- Duel Boss: The first time.
- Fallen Hero
- I Cannot Self-Terminate
- I Die Free: Desperately wants this to happen. It doesn't.
- Resistance Is Futile
- Start of Darkness
Dark Knight Giganda
- And I Must Scream: While Werdefahrt is said to be able to kill Gurgs, and unlike with the other Gurgs where it's only stated in their profiles, he was explicitly stated as having been sealed away by it destined to become a completely mindless puppet once he is freed.
- The Berserker: Fittingly of all of the Gurg, he's the one with the least self control when it comes to killing people
- Evil All Along
- Obviously Evil: Before The Reveal
- Smug Snake
Dark Knight Arzest
- Fallen Hero
- Mercy Kill: He requests that Leonis does this to him. While it would look like Leonis complied, the profiles state that he was only sealed away, and will be completely mindless once freed.
- Noble Demon: He refuses to slaughter Findeste's citizens and keeps them safe from the others by claiming the citizens are reserves to be forced into action as needed. He's also willing to let the heroes live if they'd just hand over the remaining artifacts and stay out of the way.
- Out of Focus: After being turned into a Gurg he takes a bit of a backseat to the other two.

Mila
- Cleavage Window: Two of them. One up top, one below
- "Friend or Idol?" Decision: Offers Leonis her assistance in killing Mobius and Summerill in the Boundary Plane, but because they already had all the party members allowed she couldn't come. She says she could still come if he'd just get rid of Sieghart or his mother. He doesn't even think about getting rid of his mother, that's a no, but he had to think on it for a bit about Sieghart. Still no. This then opens up an event where you can catch her, and Decimal, as a monster unit.
- I Did What I Had to Do
- Kick the Dog: Right in her introduction no less
- Literal Split Personality She is the Dark half of Mimelia
- Omnicidal Maniac
- Replacement Love Interest Her explanations make it sound as though Deeth made her as a replacement for Varna for Chaos. He treated her more like a daughter and requested she be unmade when he realized there was something wrong with her.
- Taking You with Me: Both endings see her trying this to the heroes. It fails in the True End so she gives Mimel's power back in hopes of at least killing Summerill. That fails too.
- Tsurime Eyes
- Why Am I Ticking?: Mimel warns the heroes that she may explode at any time for having absorbed both Mimel's and Werdefahrt's powers.
Gods of Darkness
Mobius
- Embarrassing Nickname: Moby
- Only Sane Man: In the post-game Boundary Plane events he comments on how Leonis and Lenion's names are similar. This sends the party off on a tangent about various characters' names and the game's development. He is notably annoyed by the blatant disregard for the fourth wall and decides it's time for the world to be serious again.
- Pet the Dog: In the post-game Boundary Plane events he agrees, because it's her first game, to inform Chaos that Mimel intends to visit him with her child on New Year's.
Deeth
- Cloudcuckoolander: Between her reactions to Thoma and Dyshana in the first game, creating the Neocolom, the pranks played on the other gods, apparent habit of coming up with nicknames for the other gods, and her general treatment of Mimelia she comes off as this even among the other Gods.
- I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: She created Mimelia to help ease Chaos's pain over losing Varna to Lenion. He treated her as daughter instead, and requested that she be unmade when it became apparent there was something wrong with her.
- Spanner in the Works: Making one sudden change to one of her creations just to mess with Summerill and Mobius set off a chain of events that screwed them over for centuries.
Chaos
- Gray Rain of Depression: According to Mobius, it rains whenever Chaos starts to get moody.

- To be fair, Weiss is level 99 with an Infinity+1 Sword. And then he regrinded his levels and becomes the Final Boss of the third generation (without the route split).

The god of destruction and rebirth and lord of the dark night. He was sealed in Zendrook when the game starts and Weiss killed him.

- Star-Crossed Lovers: With Varuna
- True Final Boss: Not him, but it's his other form: Perfect Chaos.
- White-Haired Pretty Boy
- You Should Know This Already: It's hard to talk about this guy if you haven't gotten the True Ending of the first game since mentioning him is already a spoiler by itself.

- ↑ Technically, the list from first place till sixth was dominated by Hyperdimension Neptunia characters ,and he's ranked 7th, but it wouldn't be fun if all the dlc characters were Neptunia characters. Not to mention, he still did pretty good all things considering.
