Just like blue-haired girls are often introverted, pink-haired girls are often cheery and optimistic, strong and passionate, or sweet and romantic. There's a high chance that, if a series has a Five-Man Band, a girl with pink hair is The Chick. It's also a popular hair color for protagonists of Magical Girl series.

Bonus points if she has a blue-haired love interest.

This trope doesn't count just for general pink hair. Other shades like magenta or salmon also count, but purple certainly does not. Pink-haired boys can also be examples.

• Erin Esurance from Esurance commercials, although one commercial revealed that her pink hair was a wig and the Animated Actor playing her in-universe naturally has dark hair.
• There's a holiday-season smartphone commercial in which dozens of little people in elf costumes and bright pink wigs sing about and package the ad's product.

Anime & Manga

• Pictured above: Lacus Clyne from Gundam Seed. For partial bonus points, Lacus was engaged to the blue-haired Athrun Zala, though it didn't last.
  • As well as her Body Double, Meer Campbell, in Gundam Seed Destiny. She was a brunette (the colour they used actually seems to be some sort of dark grey, but I assume it's meant to represent brown) before she was altered to look like Lacus. Lacus' hair is apparently naturally pink, though, but then, she's a designer baby like every other Coordinator, so who knows how simple something like that would be.
  • Lunamaria Hawke Gundam Seed Destiny has magenta hair.
  • Feldt Grace from Mobile Suit Gundam 00. Word of God claims she dyes it.
  • Sarah Zabiarov of Zeta Gundam... Noticing a theme?
• Rose from Fullmetal Alchemist, though it's actually just her bangs. The rest of her hair is dark brown.
• Kotoko-01 from Divergence Eve.
• Cheza from Wolf's Rain is the sweet, low-key romantic subtype. For bonus points, the guy who created her has blue hair, not to mention the more tomboyish Action Girl Blue.
• Sakura Haruno from Naruto, and she has hair-related Theme Naming. It's apparently natural, unless she's going trough the trouble of dying her eyebrows. Tayuya's hair is also either salmon or light red, but she'd be a subversion since she's foul mouthed and incredibly rude.
  • Sakura is also one point of a Love Triangle containing a Shy Blue-Haired Girl, Hinata.
    • And another Love Triangle containing a Blue-haired boy, Sasuke; of course, since the third point is Naruto in both, maybe it's a Love Quadrilateral?
  • Tayuya is borderline subversion. Though foul-mouthed, she's also intelligent, strong, and believes in what she does. Really, she's what happens when somebody like Orochimaru gets hold of a Rose-Haired Girl.
• The titular character of Revolutionary Girl Utena—at least, in the anime version. The manga version was originally a blonde. Later colored art for the manga would follow suit.
  • We can probably thank Executive Meddling for this example. Chiho Saito originally had all the characters with "normal" hair colors, with Utena being more of a orangish blonde with a pink outfit, which was pointed out in the first chapter of the manga. However, when the series was developed for television, the director decided against the original pink outfit. As a compromise, Utena's outfit was changed to black, with her hair color changed to pink.
  • Souji Mikage, too, but he's not exactly a hero...
• Ichigo Momomiya from Tokyo Mew Mew has this in the manga. In the anime, only Mew Ichigo has pink hair, whereas her civilian form has red hair.
  • And in the manga, her love interest has blue hair.
• Nozomi Yumehara/Cure Dream from Yes! Pretty Cure 5 in both forms.
  • Queen Flora from Yes! Pretty Cure 5 GoGo also sports the "pink hair and yellow eyes" combination.
  • Even if she's not a Cure, Miyuki from Fresh Pretty Cure is definitely an example of this, matched with Eyes of Gold. Cure Passion from the same continuity also has pink hair, which led some people to believe that she was Miyuki until the truth about her identity was revealed.
  • Similarly, Tsubomi Hanasaki from Heartcatch Pretty Cure has this, but like Ichigo above, it's only when she transforms into Cure Blossom.
  • Hibiki Kitajou/Cure Melody from Suite Pretty Cure.
  • Miyuki Hoshizora/Cure Happy from Smile Pretty Cure.
• Chibiusa in Sailor Moon, which is actually pointed out by some of her new classmates in one of the manga side stories (and the anime special based on it).
  • Similarly, in several manga illustrations, her mother Usagi was shown with light pink hair. However, this tends to stay confined to artbooks, since Usagi has blonde or silver hair in the manga proper.
  • Ikuko Tsukino's hair was colored magenta in one of Naoko Takeuchi's illustrations; however, her other colored appearances show her with blue-violet hair (which the anime used).
  • Also, in the beginning of the manga, Sailor Jupiter has rose-colored hair to match her rose earrings.
• Amu Hinamori from Shugo Chara. However, unlike other examples of this trope, her initial personality was somewhat introverted. One of her Charas, Ran, also has this.

• Louise from Zero no Tsukaima. Then again, her hair color is described as "strawberry blonde" in the novels, and this is a real hair color. It's just that the manga and anime producers apparently don't know what "strawberry blonde" looks like.
• Miyuki Takara and her mother in Lucky Star.
• Every Nurse Joy ever in Pokémon.

• The most popular interpretation of Mimi Tachikawa in Digimon Adventure 02 dyed her hair pink with small yellow stars. It was originally brown (or red, depending on who you ask).
• Nagisa in Rave Master.
• Kim Diehl in Soul Eater. There's also Crona, whose hair was pink in the manga but was changed to lavender in the anime, but s/he's more of a Shrinking Violet or Shy Blue-haired Person of Indeterminate Gender.
• Sora Naegino in Kaleido Star has magenta hair, which stands out because even the other native Japanese who visit her have realistic hair colors.
• Moka Akashiya's outer self in Rosario + Vampire. The inner self is a White-Haired Pretty Girl.
  • The actual dialogue in the manga says she has brown hair and her inner self has silver hair, but good luck finding any official artwork with brown hair.
• Shiho and Fumi from My-HiME and Mai-Otome, and Mayo from Mai-HiME Destiny.
• Princess Euphemia li Britannia and Anya Alstreim from Code Geass. Euphy's personality fits with what's expected for this trope, being a Wide-Eyed Idealist in a series known for its Black and Gray Morality. Conversely, Anya is an Emotionless Girl...although she wasn't always like that.

• The diclonius in Elfen Lied are semi-subversions of this trope. They are, in most cases, various levels of psychopathic with more than a touch of blood-thirsty (though they often have VERY good reason to be), even though they're all cute, pink-haired girls. Nana usually plays it pretty straight, being a very kind-hearted, cheerful girl, albeit prone to occasional fits of melancholy and the very, very rare occasions of flipping out/being pushed too far, and even then, she never actually manages to kill anyone (though not for lack of trying).
• Ringo Yukimori from Hime Chen! Otogi Chikku Idol Lilpri. Oddly enough, she is the reincarnation of Snow White, and the most well-known versions of Snow White all have black hair.
• The titular Princess Comet has pink hair.
• Hikaru from Hyper Speed GranDoll.
• Wilhelmina Carmel from Shakugan no Shana.
• Noriko Nakajima from Hell Teacher Nube.
• Miharu Sena Kanaka from Girls Bravo.

• One of the rare villainous versions—Chuutatsu Shibai from Ikki Tousen Dragon Destiny.
• Washu Hakubi from Tenchi Muyo!!, though it varies from light pink to dark pink, depending on the official artwork.
  • A male example would be Seiryo Tennan from Tenchi OAV 2 and Tenchi Muyo! GXP.
• Kanon Nakagawa from The World God Only Knows.
• Yui from Angel Beats!. And for bonus points, Hinata has blue hair.
• Kiko from Darker than Black certainly fits the Genki Girl stereotype. However, considering that most of the cast have realistic hair colors and she's a Cosplay Otaku Girl, it's quite possible she dyed it.
• Akane Miura, an Original Character made for K-On!; her hair was one of the clear indications that she was fanmade, as the show itself pretty much averts You Gotta Have Blue Hair. She's still quite popular, though.
• Kujira Etorofu from Penguin Musume, who was raised under the impression that she is a boy. Because pink-haired boys are so commonplace.

• Mizuki Himeji from Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu. Pretty, Yamato Nadeshiko, and a mishmash of wacko.
• Yu Yu Hakusho: Genkai, at least, in her younger days, is an example of the "fiery" sort. It grayed over time, though. However, in the manga, her hair was strawberry-blonde.
• Bleach has Yachiru and Lily, as well as two rare male examples, Szayel and Hachigen "Hachi" Ushoda.
• Milfeulle Sakuraba from Galaxy Angel.
• Anemone from Eureka Seven.
• Guu brilliantly subverts this. Her moe side plays this straight, but her "evil" side is very unlike this trope.
• Beauty, the heroine and Morality Pet to the title character in Bobobo-Bo Bo-bobo.
  • And later on, after The Reveal that his fecal matter-shaped "head" is actually a mask, it's shown that Softon's hair is a darker shade of pink. He's also Beauty's older brother.

• Strong and passionate - that definitely describes Haruko Haruhara from FLCL.
• From Mahou Sensei Negima, Makie Sasaki and the Narutaki twins have all been depicted with either pink or red hair. The first anime switches them all from pink to red hair about halfway through. They also all fit the "cheery girl" stereotype.
• Kuniko Hojo from Shangri-La
• Rebecca Miyamoto from Pani Poni Dash! is a quasi-example; her hair is somehow both blonde and pink.
• Caldina and Nova from Magic Knight Rayearth. Hikaru's hair in the manga illustrations are more of a pinkish color as well (in the anime, it's red).

• Coby from One Piece. However, he is a rare male Shrinking Violet, and in direct contrast to the usual Pink-Haired teenager, he often has a nervous outlook on life - even after taking a small level in Badass.

• Another of the rare rose-haired guys is Sanetoshi Watabe from Mawaru Penguindrum, apparently an Expy of the aforementioned Souji Mikage.
• Nono of Diebuster has long pink hair and is optimistic, cheerful, strong, and passionate.
• Cosette, Ropponmatsu II (partially), and Excel's good conscience in Excel Saga.
• The titular character of Puni Puni Poemi.
• Toa from Dragonaut: The Resonance with Curtains Match the Window set of pink eyes as well. Akira has hot pink hair.
• Marika from Bodacious Space Pirates has pink hair with the cheery and optimistic personality.
• The Maigical Woman Ureshiko of Okusama wa Mahou Shoujo has pink hair.
• Inori from Guilty Crown has pale pink hair. While she's not at all a Genki Girl, she does share the "pure" personality shown by many other characters on this page; she's one of the most loyal and caring characters in Guilty Crown and becomes something of a Messianic Archetype in the final episode. She also becomes more passionate near the end of the show.
• Not a girl, but Natsu of "Fairy Tail" is this.

Comic Books

• Megan Gwynn (Pixie) from New X-Men fit the definition for a good while, until Magik (or Magik's demonic clone) got to her. Depending on the artist, her hair's now either mostly black with pink streaks or mostly pink with black streaks, but either way, she was heavily affected by having bits of her soul ripped out and is suffering some serious overall disillusionment with the X-Adults.
• SpyGirl from Spy Boy. Of course, she is intended to be a spoof of all things anime.

Fan Works

• Chloe Auriville from Pretty Cure Perfume Preppy, when transformed into Cure Rosa. Ayameko's friend, Ran Nakayama, also counts.
• Shinju Miwa (Cure Pearl) from Shining Pretty Cure, in both forms.
• Sakura Tsuitei from Pretty Cure Full Color.
• Cure Dawn in Futari wa Pretty Cure Blue Moon has pink hair as well, since she's basically a classic shoujo heroine (or a grown-up variant) set up to contrast the fairly unusual leads, Cure Night and Cure Sunday. Like a lot of the modern examples (Ichigo, Tsubomi, and, yes, Chloe, too), her hair is red as a civilian.
• In the Death Note fic Point of Succession Matt is a Rose-Haired Boy-right before Mello was abducted by a Serial Killer he had caused Matt to have a hair dye "accident" dying his hair an embarassing shade of bright pink. Matt has resolved he's not going to dye it back until they've got Mello back.

Film

• Lava Girl from Shark Boy and Lava Girl has neon-pink hair that glows when she activates her powers.
• Frenchie in the film version of Grease accidentally dyes her hair pink, leading the "Beauty School Dropout" fantasy sequence.

Literature

• Stan Dominus from Duumvirate is a male example, and he even wears pink clothing to match. Aww, isn't he cute?
• In the fantasy novel Drink Down the Moon by Charles De Lint, one of the faerie women living among humans, who is posing as a young punk musician, has natural pink hair. Of course, anyone who sees her (anyone who sees her and due to her glamour is led to think she is human, that is) assumes it's dyed.
• Nymphadora Tonks from the Harry Potter series can choose whatever hair color she wants as part of her magical ability. Usually, it's bubblegum pink.
• Mei Sheong of Parrish Plessis has pink hair. It's not natural, but she strongly prefers the color and spends a considerable portion of her meager salary keeping it dyed.
• Mae Crawford from The Demon's Lexicon, although it's dyed. It fits her optimistic personality.

• Hide was a standout example of a male music artist with pink hair on occasion. Most of the time, his hair was at least in part somewhere on the red-pink spectrum.

• Independent circuit female wrestler LuFisto models her outfits on anime characters, so she sometimes dyed her hair pink.
• As a member of The Hart Dynasty, Natalya Neidheart's blond hair occasionally has pink tips.

Tabletop Games

• In the heavily anime-influenced RPG Mekton, Mike Pondsmith's infamous Lifepath character generation system includes a table for hair color, which includes both more staid, real-life hair colors as well as anime hair colors such as green, purple, blue, and, yes, pink.

Video Games

• Nana from Mega Man X Command Mission. Granted, she's a reploid.
• Meiru/Mayl from Mega Man Battle Network has magenta hair, as does Sonia in Mega Man Star Force.
• Black Rose from .hack//, Pi from .hack//G.U., and Shino (before she changed her character's colors).
• Alisa Bosconovitch from Tekken 6, who is a robot.
• Male example: while Link's hair has historically fluctuated between red, brown, and blond in his various appearances, sprites for A Link to the Past showed him as having pink hair. It justifies why Link becomes a pink-furred rabbit in the Dark World.
• Maki (Mary) in Persona was given pink/primary-color-red hair in the US version because they thought it would make it seem less Japanese.
• Yet another male example: Marluxia from the Kingdom Hearts series.
  • Although he was supposed to be a woman at first; it was changed when the developers realized that, with two women, the plot would be accidentally sexist.
• Lenna in Final Fantasy V...at least, according to the sprites. Artworks depict her as a blonde.
  • Final Fantasy XIII has Lightning and her sister, Serah. (It should be noted that Lightning, being a Sugar and Ice Girl to the nines, is the total opposite of the typical personality type.) Vanille as well, though her hair is a rather dark salmon compared to the Farron girls'.
  • Subverted in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, where Ritz Malheur does have rose hair, but it was implied that she actually has white hair (and Ritz changed her hair color to white during the ending).
  • In Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, Porom has started dyeing her hair pink.
• Mitadake High, being a game which gloriously bases itself on all manners of anime stereotypes, lampshades this by having the aliases of most of the characters being their hair colour; one of them is "The Long Pink Haired Girl".
• In a rare western example. Baldur's Gate 2 gave Imoen a pink hairdo, in contrast to her more normal appearance in the first game. Despite being the only person with such colouration, it's never commented on, and whether it's meant to be a dye job or just an early indication of the whole Bhaalspawn thing is never resolved.
  • It's a dye job, her portrait still has brown eyebrows. Also, there are wild magic effects that will turn you random colors, and one that turns the target random colors.
• Althea from Luminous Arc 2 had light pink hair before her class change.
• Some notable examples from the Tales (series) include:
  • Presea Combatir from Tales of Symphonia. And her sister, Alicia, who dated Regal, who has blue hair.
  • Estelle from Tales of Vesperia. There's also Zagi as a male example, though he's about as far from nice as it gets.

  • The three Kanonnos from the Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology series, with season-appropriate hair decs to match.
• Yuyuko Saigyouji from the Touhou series, due to her cherry blossom theme and her cheerful and optimistic personality.

• Antimony Carver from Gunnerkrigg Court. But she's apparently a redhead, judging from other characters' comments, and it may only look pink for stylistic reasons. This applies to her late mother, Surma, as well.
• Charm from Pink Black has long, pink hair. This contrasts a lot with Zero's (who may be her boyfriend) and her best friend Sifris' hair colours.
• Cecania Greensworthington in Sore Thumbs. It was eventually revealed that she dyes it.
• Sanaa Whilhelm Tryggvassen of Girl Genius also has pink hair. Although, given her brother's reaction when seeing her, it might be a dye job (or unnatural in some other way; in this world, there're plenty of options).
  • He might have been talking about her haircut; the color extends to her eyebrows, so it's most likely natural. Besides, Othar is a White-Haired Pretty Boy, so odd hair colors may not be anything unusual for that family in the first place.
    • Light-colored hair tends to take dye well (unlike dark hair, which has to be bleached first and then dyed). It's possible they all have white or blonde hair, and Sanaa just added the pink.
• In Las Lindas, there's Taffy, who fits this trope too well. Even if her hair is dyed.

• Aelita from Code Lyoko has natural pink hair both in her Lyoko avatar and in the real world. She inherited it from her mother, who is shown in flashbacks to sport the same hair color. It stands out as the rest of the cast has a normal range of hair colors for French kids (assuming Odd's purple spot is permanently dyed).
  • In the novel adaptation, Aelita has pink hair on Lyoko, but she and her mother have red hair in the real world.

Celestia is also depicted with rose hair 1000 years ago, though speculation about what her personality was like back then is just that.
  • Maybe the rose hair is just a sign that she isn't as powerful as she becomes later? After all, what happens to the sun before (or after) it ascends? It turns pink!
• Molly of Bubble Guppies is most often the cheery and optimistic kind. She also has a blue-haired love interest.
