Chick Magnet
"Do I really inspire that sort of frothing desire in the female masses?"—Miles Edgeworth, Ace Attorney
He's not The Casanova, he's not Kavorka Man, but he pulls girls in about as fast as they do, if not faster. It's probably a good thing he's too innocent to notice.
A Chick Magnet is a guy who just seems to draw girls to him like bears to honey. He can charm the pants off any girl, of about any age, without even trying, and he usually doesn't. He may not know just the right things to say to a girl, but says them anyway. This usually means he ends up with two or more girls vying for his affections.
But unlike the scoundrels mentioned above, even when he does finally realize the feelings of the girls around him, he never tries to take advantage of them. He usually ends up digging himself in deeper, because by this time, he's come to care for all of them, even if just as friends, and doesn't want to break their hearts, or lose any of them if/when he finally chooses the girl he really loves. This sometimes makes him look like a wimp in the eyes of some fans, especially those who have their own favorite girl, and usually don't share his concern for the others. Some fans may even question his sexuality.
Overlaps often with the Unlucky Everydude. Crank this magnetism up and then Even the Guys Want Him.
If he is young and seeks out girls like Casanova, he's Kidanova. The Gender Inversion (and this trope's alternate title) is Dude Magnet.
See Mr. Fanservice for the guy designed to be a magnet for chicks in the real world. Don't forget Clueless Chick Magnet, when the Chick Magnet doesn't even notice. And The Charmer, who is seen as charismatic by others.
Male
Anime and Manga
- Pick a Harem Anime protagonist. Any Harem Anime protagonist.
- Tenchi Masaki from Tenchi Muyo! is the classic Unlucky Everydude version.
- His half-brother Kenshi is just as bad.
- Seina from GXP is Tenchi turned Up to Eleven. He seems pretty normal on Earth, but once he gets into space, he starts attracting girls outside his harem too.
- Rei from Urusei Yatsura breaks up loving couples just by walking past them, causes squees whenever anything of the female gender sees him. His being dumb as a plank and loving only food does nothing to dissuade the girls. His transforming into a giant goofy tiger-bull whenever excited might. Sometimes.
- Ranma Saotome of Ranma ½ is a little more competent but no less hapless when it comes to girls.
- That's just girls. Let's not even get into how many boys want him or the whole panda doodle incident.
- Maison Ikkoku has both Yusaku and a Gender Flipped example in Kyoko, who he loves. Both are less exaggerated examples of this trope due to the nature of the story, and both of them have Jerk with a Heart of Gold traits to boot.
- Negi Springfield from Mahou Sensei Negima. He's a little too young to be worrying about love. Unfortunately for him, he's also a little too cute for his own good, which draws in girls that don't have any romantic interest in him yet. (A prime example is a chart, apparently made by Chamo, measuring the type and extent of several girls' affection for Negi is partially shown. One girl, while having rather low romantic feelings for him, has a maternal score of 12 out of a possible 10.) Having insane fighting and magical skills (and selective maturity) helps. As many have noted, the situation is most likely going to get worse once he hits puberty, which has prompted Chisame to wonder if it's not best that they kill him now (chapter 125).
- That's not even factoring in the "age deceiving pills" which reveal that in five years or so, he's going to be really, really Bishonen.
- To make matters even worse, he has a habit of unintentionally saying things that sound like love confessions or even proposals. With a totally straight face (by which we mean an adorably innocent smile).
- Lampshaded in chapter 285 by Chisame again with an exasperated "We've got us another one..." after Shiori shows visible signs of attraction to Negi.
- If you thought Negi was dense, you clearly haven't seen Kotaro. Natsumi, Mei and Madoka plus nearly as many nameless fangirls as Negi, yet manages to be even more oblivious than Negi. At least Negi understood the confessions he's gotten and picked up on, although Ako's not really getting over Nagi like she pretended.
- Hell, Negi's such a Chick Magnet that the resident Schoolgirl Lesbians are attracted to him. And his ex-rival, Fate. Who's a man.
- In chapter 344, the ramifications of being such a powerful chick magnet are finally kicking in, and it doesn't look like it's going to be pretty for anyone.
- Fubuki from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX; he not only has most of the female students at Duel Academy fawning over him, but some female teachers. He's fully aware of his powers, and occasionally humors them, but is too carefree to consider exploiting it.
- Kei Takishima of Special A, and probably every male member of Special A.
- The Ouran High School Host Club, especially Tamaki Suoh.
- Tamaki works hard to make the girls happy and be a perfect 'prince.' A better example would be Haruhi who is pretty much this trope incarnate as she unintentionally wooed several girls simply by not stating her thoughts in full.
- Yuuichi Aizawa from Kanon is often considered the one true capable harem leader; all 5 girls fall in love with him and he even gains the trust of the 3 supporting ones. He of course does not think of himself as a magnet, nor purposely tries to attract girls, nor ever notices how popular he is with the opposite sex.
- Akito Tenkawa of Martian Successor Nadesico manages to attract the eyes of about half the female crew over the course of the series, to the vocal annoyance (and sometimes envy) of some of the male crewmembers. It gets Lampshaded constantly.
- The tenants in The Wallflower, with varying levels of embracement and sympathy between them. Kyohei, who is poor, is sympathetic since he has to leave most of his jobs due to sexual harassment (even male bosses, and his headmaster at school try to come on to him). Ranmaru is the exact opposite, embracing the role fully to his own advantage.
- Rito of To LOVE-Ru has so many girls after him, a good majority of which are royalty, that one of the girls has decided that it would be much simpler if he just married all of them. It might also be due to the fact that she knows she can't win without the Tenchi Solution
- Takuya Enoki from Aka-chan to Boku (Baby and Me) is this to a lot of girls. When he finds out that several girls are in love with him he almost has a mental breakdown. It appears to run in the family; his widower father Harumi has several coworkers who crush on him, and two little girls at the daycare fight over Takuya's little brother Minoru.
- JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
- Jotaro Kujo from Part 3 was beloved by basically all the girls at his high school, probably due to his Troubled but Cute image. They still think he's irresistible when he tells them to go away.
- This also happens with the other JoJos of the different arcs, including a bit in Part 4 where this happens to another character who was disguised as the hero.
- Jotaro, Josuke and Giorno all have a crowd of girls begging for their attention near their introductions; Jotaro and Giorno are too cool to dopily embrace it unlike Harem protagonists.
- Hakuoh, White-Haired Pretty Boy from Duel Masters, was one of these during the first season, but he was too busy being aloof and dealing with the Serious Business of card games to care. After his Heel Face Turn, the effect seems to wear off.
- Rental Magica's Itsuki Iba is one of these, since he has at least three girls displaying affection for him, plus a younger one who looks up to him as her "onii-chan".
- ...and an older lady sort of likes him. And this doesn't stop on living or humans—one of the three girls is a ghost. Nekoyashiki began to muse aloud when a homunculus joined the ranks of female admirers.
- Sasuke Uchiha from Naruto has so many emotional problems that he hardly even notices the girls that become entranced by him.
- Naruto doesn't do too bad for himself, either. Especially not if you consider the Filler arcs. And the movies. (thinking of a particular post-credits gag in particular...)
- Tokiwa Takashi from Ask Dr. Rin is an example who does seem aware of it. However, being completely devoted to the one girl who isn't interested turns him from that to a Stalker with a Crush.
- In Tantei Gakuen Q, handsome Ryu Amakusa is somewhat of a chick magnet, with girls of all ages (including Megumi Minami from his class) blushing at the mere sight of him. Once during a case that happened in Kazuma's school, a flock of several girls no older than 11 years old almost glomp-attacked him, much to his embarrassment.
- Kyu/Q blushed when he first saw him.
- In The Prince of Tennis, several popular players have their own fanclubs; some of those are Echizen (though Tomoka and Sakuno are the only fangirls seen often), Oishi (in the anime, and much to his discomfort), Keigo Atobe (of course) and Hiroshi Wakato from Jyousei Shonan (who also *adores* the attention from the ladies) .
- Yuta from Mermaid Saga, though played in a much more serious and tragic tone than any of the above, as Yuta knows any relationship he gets into will end badly for him. One time, the girl that fell in love with him was killed by her jealous fiance.
- Lelouch from Code Geass; even if you ignore his Unwanted Harem full of the usual suspects, Word of God says that a vast majority of the female populace at his Elaborate University High has a thing for him, and that he might even have his own fan club - and all this is before his Ninja Maid sets him up with 108 dates in the second season...
- Interestingly enough, despite the fan club and 108 dates, both of Lelouch's main love interests start out thinking Lelouch is an arrogant Jerkass, and only fall for him after seeing his hidden kind side.
- Keitaro from Love Hina fits in. By the end of the manga, only two girls had not fallen in love with him. One of them was eight years old...
- One Piece
- Luffy actually fits this trope pretty well, especially with the Kuja Amazons being all over him. It's not surprising, seeing as how thanks to Alvida he's never been short of admirers for most of the series. You know you're a big time Chick Magnet when the two women who are considered the most beautiful in the world are head over heels in love with you.
- Likely played for laughs, because in spite of all obvious evidence, Luffy does not have any clue of their attraction to him, nor does he show any attraction to anyone. Even if all the women sent him Valentine cards (if it exists in that universe), he'd probably wonder what all the paper hearts are for.
- Boa Hancock, and she has the fangirls to prove it. "Is there no end to her sex appeal?"
- Alvida has all the men and women of Roguetown squeeing for her beauty, up the the point where the police can't attack her. But she only has eyes for Luffy.
- Jing from King of Bandit Jing is definitely a Chick Magnet. 99% of the time, when his adventure has something to do with a girl, she'll fall for him. There's also a reason why they call all the girls in the series "Jing Girls".
- Sagara Sousuke from Full Metal Panic! (coupled with apparently being a Whispered magnet). Kaname, Tessa, and the novel-only character Nami (who is heavily implied to also be a Whispered) are all in love with him. And then there's Ena Saeki who has a crush on him. There are also strong hints that Grace Weissman (AKA Gray) had some feelings for him (or, at the very least, was attracted to him) - noticeable by how friendly she was towards him, and how quick she was to constantly defend him (not to mention opening up to him about all sorts of personal feelings). In fact, one of the soldiers asked her why she was so unreasonably defensive about him and if she had the hots for him, to which she reacts in typical Tsundere fashion. Her final internal thoughts were towards him, hoping that he wouldn't worry about her and would be able to return safely. Indeed, his pheromones are so strong that he managed to get her to feel this way towards him in the span of a few days, despite him being really quiet and hardly talking. Oh, and he also has one crazy male stalker...
- He's even more of a Chick Magnet than even that - it's implied that a bunch of girls (and guys) at school harbor crushes on him and find him incredibly good looking... the only thing is that his insane, violent behavior and unapproachability keeps them from daring to chase and pursue him.
- It gets much worse. You know that Whispered girl (Mira Kudan) he rescued who appeared briefly in the beginning? Yeah, she apparently also fell for him and "gave her heart to him" ever since he saved her life. Except she actually acknowledges that she won't act on it seeing how Kaname and Tessa would kill her before she gets close.
- He's even more of a Chick Magnet than even that - it's implied that a bunch of girls (and guys) at school harbor crushes on him and find him incredibly good looking... the only thing is that his insane, violent behavior and unapproachability keeps them from daring to chase and pursue him.
- Suguru Misato of Mahoromatic has pretty much all the girls in the series after him, including two (maybe all three) members of triomatic, Mahoro, and his slutty, depraved, insane teacher miss Shikijo.
- Train from Black Cat is. He has three women vying for his attention (okay, well, one of them was cut short), but only manages to see them as friends / acquaintances because he's a Chaste Hero. Although he could be considered an even more extreme example in that Even the Guys Want Him.
- Ichigo Kurosaki from Bleach is known in the fandom for attracting entire harems. Orihime is outright in love with him, and Nel (Orihime's equal as a well-endowed beauty) glomps him at one point. Riruka of X-Cution, who saw Ichigo's face only once, fell to her knees, gaping at his hotness. Yoruichi has made a pass at him (although it might solely be to tease him), and Rangiku deliberately tried to seduce him once when she thought it would get her what she wanted. It's heavily implied that Senna from the first movie had feelings for him. If that wasn't enough, the fandom will then argue about whether or not evidence exists for Rukia and Tatsuki having feelings for him too. Unsurprisingly, Ichigo is a Chaste Hero who doesn't seem especially interested in getting a girlfriend, and he's still surprisingly innocent in that area.
- In the zanpaktou filler, Hyorinmaru is considered attractive by several females, from the obvious Haineko to Tobiume, and even Suzumebachi marvels at his hotness at one point.
- Allen Walker from D Gray Man doesn't do too badly for himself. Rohfa is infatuated with him, Road claims to love him, and one interpretation is that For may have a crush on him. In the second Reverse novel, it is also implied that Lenalee has someone she secretly likes, and that that person is probably Allen. And that's not even getting into the aspect of how Even the Guys Want Him, where Allen is shown to be able to manipulate Komurin (a robot) by turning up his charm (complete with Bishie Sparkle) which makes Komurin fall for him, or how Tyki really really likes Allen.
- Akio Asakura from Wangan Midnight. In fact, when he ends up repeating his last year of high school due to excessive absences caused by driving the Devil Z at night so much, the lower-grade female students got excited over being able to attend high school with Akio for another year. Said obsession with the Devil Z prevents him from hooking up with them.
- A Certain Magical Index has Touma, possibly the most extreme example in all fiction. Early in the series, nearly ten thousand girls (9969 clones and their genetic donor) fall in love with him. That's not including various girls before and after this incident. He has absolutely no idea of any of their feelings.
- It apparently runs in the family, as his father Touya is another example. Unlike Touma, he's prone to flirting back, even if his wife is standing right next to him.
- Later on, there's Kakeru, who has over a hundred girls in love with him.
- Nozumu Itoshiki (the titular 'Mr Despair' of Sayonara, Zetsubou-sensei), the certifiably suicidally depressed teacher whose fashion sense is stuck in the 19th century and whose personal goal is self-annihilation, somehow manages to get almost every girl in his class to fall in love with him by accident (or at the least make him the subject of their various fetishes and insanities, which is just as good... right?)
- Li/Hei from Darker than Black. Apart from the standard UST with Kirihara, he's also attracted the romantic interest of two Loony Fangirls, a Contractor that regularly forgoes the hat of rational self-interest because she's in love with him, and a girl that isn't even supposed to feel any emotions, much less love.
- He manages to charm almost every female who encounters him, really. Even several who meet him with their only initial assumption being, "Evil, inherently heartless killing machine." Even the ones who don't fall for him want to adopt him; his elderly landlady treats him like a surrogate son, and at least one teenage girl decided she wanted him to be her big brother. About the only exception is Season 2's Mina Hazuki... a Psycho Lesbian who Does Not Like Men.
- Kitano from Angel Densetsu manages to get 3 girls hitting on him despite being a Nightmare Fuel Station Attendant. His dad too.
- Paptimus Scirocco of Zeta Gundam fame. It's implied he uses Psychic Powers to subtley manipulate women. A particularily dangerous example, he has managed to weaponize this ability, convincing his lovers to fight & die for the sake of his nebulous goals & it's even implied his ultimate goal may be to use this power on a global scale.
- Apart from the requisite Love Triangle, Macross Frontier's Alto Saotome has an unofficial fanclub including not only the SMS Bridge Bunnies (and Bobby) but also around half of his school's female population -- All of which he's probably prettier than.
- Tsukune Aono from Rosario + Vampire. Any female monster who comes within smelling distance of him will want him for her own. Of course, this might be because his human blood is highly attractive to any monster, so the women just interpret it as sex appeal. Although his Nice Guy attitude and Bishonen appearance are clearly contributing factors. In some chapters it's been shown that human girls find him attractive as well (possibly even his cousin).
- Guts from Berserk. Not at all obvious in the Golden Age, of course, which has as a plot point his slowly building relationship with Casca. Rather, it happens to him afterwards, where he seems to have more of a knack for having girls several generations his junior fall for him. Farnese (who is a generation younger than him) falls in love with and practically worships the ground he walks on. And then there's Schierke, who is more than a generation younger than him, and has a huge crush on him. Not to mention that it's implied that Jill (who looks to be around the same age as Schierke), an abused village girl, developed a huge crush on him as well (to the point where she repeatedly kept begging for him to allow her to permanently follow and come with him). And along with (much) younger girls, he also seems to be a demon magnet, and not just because of the Brand of Sacrifice he bears. There's Slan, the only female member of the Godhand, who is very attracted to him in an evil and sadistic way. And even Rosine, a fairy-like Apostle, flirts with and mentions how attractive he is (despite her almost Single-Target Sexuality obsession with Jill). And getting into Even the Guys Want Him, Griffith, who would become the latest member of the Godhand, had a Yandere obsession with him.
- Gundam Seed has Kira Yamato. His best friend Athrun Zala becomes a more perfect example in the sequel.
- By the end of Girls Bravo the male lead Yukinari has about four girls after him, or who expressed interest in him at one time or another.
- Yuuji from Shakugan no Shana. No only does he have two main Love Interests, he was also involved in...ehh...questionable actions with a female villain, is desired by another female Crimson Denizen for being the vessel of her lover, and becomes actually part of a Love Square due to a third girl literally clinging to him later on. And he still stays Oblivious to Love for a total of 2 Seasons.
- Where's Pokémon's Ash Ketchum in all of this? Shipping aside, many girls (human and Pokémon) have developed feelings for Ash and he's too clueless to notice any of them.
- Fuyuki Hinata of Keroro Gunso has attracted a lot of female attention for a twelve-year-old boy. Girls who have a thing for him include schizo billionaire heiress Momoka, School Newspaper Newshound Chiruyo, a mermaid, a princess on the moon (just go with it) and Alicia Southerncross, an Emotionless Girl with a shape-shifting space entity who happens to be her adopted father on her head.
- Touya and Yukito of Cardcaptor Sakura both have large female followings at their school. Unfortunately for the ladies, they're also the series' official Yaoi Guys.
- Ayumu Narumi from Spiral attracts the attention of Hiyono and Rio thanks to his amazing cooking skills. After he meets Hizumi he goes on to find himself being confessed to nearly every day by girls who had been attracted to him but intimidated by his demeanor and the fact that he hung out with Hiyono all the time.
- Agito from Air Gear attracts female nurses and doctors without even trying. He winds up in an early chapter, surrounded by a crowd of them.
- Tadase from Shugo Chara. He has half the female population of his school after him, and he is in 6th grade.
- Compared to some of the protagonists of harem anime, Van of Gun X Sword is only modestly successful, since he's only got three women chasing after him most of the time. However, he has the ability to attract women instantly. In episode 10, he receives a proposal of marriage from a successful businesswoman who wanted his assistance as an armor rider; in episode 21, he memorably gets a come on in the middle of battle from an enemy who finds him "adorable."
- Ryuuji from Toradora!, despite having the Face of a Thug, manages to get all three main female characters in the series to fall in love with him. Even background girls start showing interest when the discover he's very clean, cooks, and sews quite well.
- Black Butler: Sebastian — in the anime, at least. Sebastian has been shown to be attractive to Ciel's aunt, three nuns (one of which he has sex with for information one screen no less), and an angel.
- In Katekyo Hitman Reborn, way back in the beginning of the series, there's all those fangirls in the school dying to give Gokudera and Yamamoto chocolates.
- And in chapter 364 when Dino introduces himself as Tsuna's English teacher quite a few of the girls and one guy blush over how dreamy he is.
- Ali/Alan of the Sailor Moon anime suddenly gets a lot of fangirls when he transferred to Usagi/Serena's school.
- Pandora Hearts: Gil in the anime, who was almost attacked by a hoard of frothing horny schoolgirls while in Lutwidge Academy.
- To a lesser extent in the manga, too. Retrace 49 has a horde of noble females swarming around him and Vincent. We already knew Vincent was this as well, but this time we see them well-dressed at a noble party. All the girls are happy, inside and outside the universe.
- Karakuridouji Ultimo: Murayama. He is so bishonen that school girls literally run and push desks over to see him and release heart marks while fawning over him.
- Ichika Freaking Orimura. If there's a female in his immediate vicinity, they'll probably be swooning over him.
- Dark of D.N.Angel.
- Haruhi Suzumiya: Kyon. Seriously, even Itsuki seems to have a thing for him.
- America of Axis Powers Hetalia. Two or three sketches have him swooned at by many girls.
- Yunoki of Kiniro no Corda.
- Julio, Guiche, and especially Saito of Zero no Tsukaima.
- Naota of FLCL.
- Vampire Knight: Kaname. He already has Yuki, Ruka, Sara, and countless screaming Day Class girls who want him. Not to mention all those Nobles practically shoving their daughters at him at the Aido family's soiree.
- Princess Mononoke's Ashitaka manages to effortlessly draw the affection of Irontown's entire female population. Even the married ones.
- Speed Racer: Speed. Which naturally causes the occasional fit of jealousy on the part of his girlfriend.
- Rin Tsuchimi of SHUFFLE!. By the end of Essence+ there is no girl shown on screen and has a name that isn't in love with him.
- A few characters in Revolutionary Girl Utena are this, like Miki, Touga, and Akio.
- Takashi of Highschool of the Dead.
Comics
- Archie Andrews from the Archie Comics. For some reason.
- Thoroughly deconstructed when Betty brings over some photos of Archie. Veronica points out he's actually kind of ugly. This leads into them realizing he's selfish, boorish, and is generally bad, and they should both dump him. Beat. "You first." "No, you first." They glumly conclude that Archie is some sort of Kavorka Man.
- And speaking of Archie Comics, Sonic the Hedgehog has attracted several potential love interests such as Princess Sally, Amy Rose, and Mina Mongoose.
- Ryan Choi, The All-New Atom, finds himself utterly baffled by the way the women of Ivy Town find him attractive—including at least one supervillainess. He has to be reassured by Wonder Woman herself that there's nothing supernatural about it.
- Connor Hawke, the unworldly second Green Arrow, pretty much just has to show up for women to start throwing themselves at him (occasionally literally).
- The irony, of course, is that unlike his father, Ollie Queen, Connor is pretty much a monk-for-life.
- Daredevil... the Murdock mojo runs strong enough to leave even Spider-Man envious.
- Longshot of the X-Men. This may well be a function of his (literal) supernatural luck, but there are other explanations.
- Nightwing. Watch out for that smile, ladies. He doesn't realize it, but it's actually a weapon. He's also Mr. Fanservice, so they're doing something right there. (The fanon consensus that Even the Guys Want Him has yet to be discussed in Canon.)
- In one story, Supergirl spontaneously made out with him. She hastily apologized to Starfire, only for her to say she understood.
- The apple didn't far fall from the adoptive tree, as Bruce Wayne has never had a problem with the ladies. Well, technically he has, but it's more of a "getting them to go away" problem than a "getting them to come by in the first place" problem.
- His animated version even hooked up with Lois Lane. Even the Joker had to express his admiration for that one.
- Former Robin and current Red Robin, Tim Drake, is no slouch either. While he's only ever been in a committed relationship with Stephanie (Batgirl), Darla Aquista (the Warlock's Daughter), Hong Kong gangster possibly undercover cop Lynx, Cassandra Sandsmark aka Wondergirl (though they ultimately decided they were Better as Friends), and possibly Cassandra Cain (she wasn't really herself at the time, being drugged up and crazy) have all been attracted to Tim at one time or another. Even Lady Shiva was a bit too touchy-feely with him when they first met than was really necessary.
- Spider-Man as well. His lovers' gallery is probably exceeded only by Batman, and in Batman's case most of the relationships are merely used to maintain his playboy image. In fact, the Human Torch "snaps" when he learns that his best bud Spider-Man is actually Peter Parker, who he was extremely envious of for his ability to attract women. Johnny even labeled Peter's ability the "Parker Luck", much to Spidey's amusement, who uses the same term to describe his bad luck. If you still needs proof, take a look at the 'Love Interest' section of this page. He even nabbed Hercules' former wife!
- Clark Kent/Superman. He's attracted: Lana Lang, Lori Lemaris (a mermaid!), Lois Lane, Cat Grant, Wonder Woman, Maxima, Amazing Grace, The Queen Of Fables, La Encantadora, Supergirl!, Ice (Guy Gardner's main squeeze), Obsession (Dana Dearden), a Latina cop, an alien insect queen that had taken Lana's form, and Lyla (a purple-haired chick from Kandor).
- Conner Kent has attracted Supergirl, Knockout, Tana Moon, Roxy Leech, Wonder Girl (Cassandra Sandsmark) and Batgirl (Cassandra Cain). Chris Kent was dating Thara Ak-Var, and girls chased him wherever he went. Like father, like sons.
- The Hulk, surprisingly enough. A lot of women, both human and non human, seem to fall for him. To date he has been married at least three times (two now dead and one partially insane) and bedded many more. Bruce Banner on the other hand...
- Cyclops of the X-Men has had at least six different girlfriends, and that's just counting his mainstream version. Psylocke also once tried it on with him. In particular, he seems to be irresistible to telepaths.
- One of the main running gags for Ivar Anni-Padda in Valiant's Timewalker series. Whether he's walking down the street minding his own business, running for his life from the villain of the month or falling from the top of a skyscraper, all anybody can say about it is "Gorgeous!"
- Doug Ramsey/Cypher of the New Mutants. He dated pre-bodyswap Psylocke as well as teammate Wolfsbane, but has also managed to earn himself quite the following of female villains.
- White Feather, a member of the super-hero parody team The Inferior Five. He's a hunky, muscular fellow who tends to attract a lot of girls. Sadly, he's afraid of them, much like he's afraid of everything else; he's often used the need to be a hero simply as an excuse to get away from them, even though he's usually scared of whatever the team has to fight against. Not surprisingly, the only girl he's truly comfortable around is his friend and teammate Dumb Bunny, a fortunate situation as he's a photographer and she's a model in their civilian identities. It would be difficult for either to make a living otherwise.
Fan Works
- Kyon, the titular character in Kyon: Big Damn Hero. Being a brilliant martial artist as well as breaking up an illegal voyeuristic photography ring probably has something to do with it.
- Koizumi too. All he has to do is walk into Kyon's class, and all the girls just stop what they're doing and stare.
- Blaine is a Dude Magnet in Hunting the Unicorn. What he lacks in numbers, he makes up for in sadness. And terror.
- My Life Can't Lose Its Normality, being a Fix Fic, turns Kyousuke into one of these. So far, every girl in the series (except Manami) acts like a total pervert around him.
- George in With Strings Attached; he's singled out for sex by Fi'ar and Ma'ar.
- Paul attracts his share of women (and men), but for one or another reason he never actually wants or gets any.
- After Ringo defeats Mung, he is mobbed by the Warrior Women and has so much sex that the next day he's “little better than a smear on the ground.”
- In The Tainted Grimoire, Luso has three girls who definitely likes him. They are Kanin, Anna and Maria.
Films -- Live-Action
- Pootie Tang: For the viewers, he's a Kavorka Man, but none of the women in the film can (or want to) resist him. Of course, he rejects their affections until being tricked into losing his magical belt.
- The title character in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. He also has allied female agents falling for him in the other movies.
- In Captain America: The First Avenger, Howard Stark is the straightforward ladies' man, as shown in his first appearance. Post-procedure Steve was able to catch the attention of Peggy, the foxy secretary and a starstruck blond due to a combination of his stage celebrity, Greek God physique, courage and Adorkable Nice Guy attitude.
Literature
- Nawat Crow in Tamora Pierce's Trickster Books is rather like this. His innocence is compounded by the fact that...well, he's a transformed crow and, in the beginning, misinterpreted kissing as mate-feeding and thought that a reasonable way to substancially increase the number of available warriors was to continuously mate and have nestlings. The fact that he's adorable doesn't hurt either.
- In Simon Hawke's The Reluctant Sorcerer trilogy, women far and wide find the main character endearing to no end, because his nature strikes them smack-dab in their maternal instinct.
- FitzChivalry Farseer by the time of Fool's Errand has become one.
- Holger Carlsen, the displaced-to-a-magical-world hero of Poul Anderson's Three Hearts and Three Lions, is bemused to find himself the object of eager affection from Morgan le Fay, an Elven enchantress, and a wholesome Swan May. Apparently he never had this much success with women in our world, which the narrator attributes to his having too much concern about hurting their feelings. Note that this is at least partly due to a pair of enchantments placed on him at birth by The Fair Folk: to have the "gift of pleasing" and the "sensibility to return the affection he inspires."
- Luke Skywalker, oh so very much. He does get lucky after something like 15+ years, but... (note: this example only applies to the Expanded Universe, hence why it's in Literature instead of Film)
- Oh, Luke gets lucky. Akanah and Callista having sex with Luke is canon, and it's heavily implied Teneniel raped him. Jem, the jury's still out on - they fell in love, but she was stuffed into the fridge almost immediately. I will say that Mon Mothma was confident in Luke's relationship with Gaeriel that she tapped him to open negotiations with Bakura. She wasn't known for making political mistakes.
- Let's not forget Isolder and Brakiss. And the entire Zeltron species wanted a piece of Jedi.
- Zeltrons welcome everyone with great enthusiasm - their culture's rules are love everyone, have fun, and if you have to kill, do it quickly and cleanly. But they are incredibly attracted to Luke Skywalker. They're a species of empaths, and the combination of his pureheartedness, fame, and the sheer, intoxicatingly sensual power of the Force in him makes them flock and swarm to him, males and females both. They welcome nearly anyone with great enthusiasm, sure, but especially him.
- Sir Berit and Sir Bevier, from David Eddings' Tamuli trilogy. Subverted in Bevier's case: he's well aware of his attraction to women but his religious scruples (he's aiming to convert from knight to priest at some point) mean he refuses to act on it. Berit is utterly naive, still completely loyal to the ideal of his vows and completely unaware of the effect he has.
- Bertram Wooster from Jeeves and Wooster series by PG Wodehouse. (The TV series version has the advantage of Hugh Laurie's Puppy Dog Eyes.) It's not as strange as it first sounds, Bertie's loaded, affable enough and not very hard on the eyes.
- Finn in Kingdom Keepers. In the first book, Willia, Charlene, and Amanda are all described as being attracted to him. Jez also flirts with him, and Maleficent notes it was sincere.
- Benjamin Avery, hero of The Pyrates. Every single woman in the book pursues him, from the pirate queen to the jungle princess, but he only has eyes for the admiral's daughter. And even for her he's not prepared to move beyond kissing until they're married.
- Paladin of Souls presents Arhys dy Lutiz, who is blessed by the Father of Winter (god of leadership, justice, fatherhood, what engenders fatherhood, and so forth) to an almost embarassing degree. The chain of events leading to his... *ahem*... "condition" started when the sorceress sent to seduce his unmarried bastard half brother got a good look at him.
- Berrynose in Warrior Cats.
- Isaac Asimov's Azazel series have a story about a man who was made that by the titular demon (he redesigned his body chemistry to produce a lot of pheromones). Unfortunately, all the girls are extremely jealous... and he ends up with the strongest one (that is, all muscle and brothers to match - 7 to 8 feet tall).
- Mikael Blomkvist in Stieg Larsson's "Millennium Trilogy". The amount of women falling over themselves to sleep with this financial journalist is incredible, and one can't help but feel there is a certain amount of wish-fulfillment going on on the author's part. In The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo he is already having a long-term affair with his business partner Erika. Upon moving out to Hedeby island he is quickly seduced by Cecilia Vanger, whom he has an ongoing relationship with throughout the book. Then Lisbeth comes to town as his research partner and ends up falling in love with the guy. In the sequel, The Girl Who Played With Fire, Blomkvist is sleeping with Harriet, the woman he had believed to be dead for 90% of the first book.
- Harry Potter: Ginny, Cho, Romilda Vane, and Moaning Myrtle
- Hermione Lampshades it in Half Blood Prince by telling him that he's 'never been more fanciable.'
- Thomas Raith of The Dresden Files, supernaturally so. He tries to hold down a job like a normal person... and keeps losing his job when women throw themselves at him. He eventually solves it, in a rather hilarious but inarguably effective way.
- It's a sort of thing with House Raith of the White Court to be that.
- Harry Dresden himself has a surprising amount of offers over the course of his adventures, most of them from supernaturally-hot women (and magical beings posing as women) but to the muggles at least, tends to subvert this. Harry tends to lampshade that, but especially in Thomas's presence by contrast.
- Laharl in the Disgaea Novels seems to fit this trope well. It seems in the novel he was able to attract multiple girls, this includes, Etna, Flonne, Jade ( Gordon and Jennifer's daughter ), and Sakura
- Georgina and Dorothea in Sorcery and Cecelia. The former is just that good-looking. The latter has a spell cast on her to make her irresistible to all men (and she hates it).
Live-Action TV
- Nate Archibald from the Gossip Girl series.
- In an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Xander tried to have a love spell cast for him. It turned him into a chick magnet for everyone but the target, as these things tend to do.
- He also tends to be a demon chick magnet, throughout the whole series.
- Supernatural's Dean seems to have all the evil chicks after him. A reaper thinks he's cute, a crossroads demon thinks he's just edible, and the new Big Bad - a demon called Lilith in the form of a little girl - thinks he's really cute. However, he's not so innocent when it comes to the more human girls.
- Enough so to blind many of the ladies is the fact that the Doctor on Doctor Who is an 1100-year-old alien.
- "Is there anything else he's got two of?". The Tenth Doctor's tendency for this has been noted.
- Plus, over the show's thirty-odd seasons, the Doctor has recruited quite a lot of attractive twentysomething females as his "traveling companions."
- Was that a leather bikini?
- The Eleventh Doctor may be surpassing Ten in this respect. It's hard to top accidentally getting engaged to Marilyn Monroe.
- Justin from Wizards of Waverly Place. He also seems to be a vampire, a werewolf and a centaur chick magnet.
- Even though House is a miserable bastard nearing his fifties, nearly every woman on the show looks at him like they want to take him into a supply closet and jump his bones. His eyes can't be that pretty, can they?
- iCarly: First up, Spencer Shay with Sasha, Miss Ackerman, Mrs. Benson (in an alternate universe), an art teacher, Gibby's mom, a female juggler, an 80 year old man, the woman who inherited Galini's pie shop, and more.
- Secondly, Gibby with Tasha.
- Thirdly, Carly, with Missy, Carly, Wendy, Valerie.
- Fourthly, Freddie, with Valerie, Shannon, Rona (alternate universe), Melanie, Shelby Marx, Magic Malika, Jamie, Ariana, Leslie, Sabrina, Patrice, three random girls at a party (iPity the Nevel) and pretty much the entire female fandom in iStart a Fanwar), without mentioning that he dated both female leads of the show.
- And those were just the main Chick Magnets.
- The wheelchair-bound Dr. John Ballard in Seven Days.
- Don Draper, in Mad Men, can't go anywhere without being hit on by some girl or another. Unlike most examples, though, Don is perfectly willing to sleep with them, despite being married.
- Will from Glee, having his wife Terri and guidance counselor Emma. Add to that, students Rachel and Suzy Pepper.
- Don't forget Shelby and April.
- And now Holly too.
- Benton Fraser of Due South, to the continual frustration of everyone around him.
- Though usually a Handsome Lech who did this intentionally, Face on The A-Team could attract a woman even when he was focusing on something else. For instance, there was the time he had to hide from Col. Decker in a woman's changing stall:
Woman (to Face): I like your face.
Face: Uh, you mean...I have an honest face?
Woman: No, but I like it. *leans in towards him*
Face: *goes with it and gets laid offscreen in a changing stall*
- Wally Cleaver was never too concerned about girls, but the girls all seemed to consider him the hottest catch in school.
- Captain Kirk in Star Trek: The Original Series. Spock also seems to be the object of a lot of female interest.
- Riker in Star Trek: The Next Generation.
- Davy Jones in The Monkees. One episode has the guys playing Spin The Bottle, with the bottle's mouth homing in on him every time. When he goes into another room, the bottle flies off the table and sticks to the door...
- Billy Cranston from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers picked up plenty of girls over the series.
- Hayato Ichimonji had three women fawning over him when he first debuted.
- John Crichton of Farscape so so much. In addition to his main love interest Aeryn, there was Gilina, Chiana, Jenavian, Jool...just about any female character to show up in the show instantly falls for Crichton or at least gets ship-teased with him pretty intensely.
Mythology
- Adonis of Greek Mythology. So handsome that two goddesses fell in love with him at first sight. Aphrodite took a shine to him when he was born and Persephone fell for him when he was about thirteen. It didn't end well for Adonis—when he eventually chose Aphrodite, a furious Persephone told Aphrodite's former lover Ares about Aphrodite's new beau. Ares turned into a boar and attacked Adonis while he was out hunting. Since Ares is a jerk, he killed Adonis by goring him in the crotch.
- Diarmid O'Dyna of Celtic Mythology (who was Lancer in the aforementioned Fate/Zero) had this as an actual magical ability—any woman who looked at his face would instantly fall in love with him. One of these was a woman who caught sight of him at her own wedding party. Her husband-to-be didn't take it very well.
Professional Wrestling
- The Miz in the WWE used to call himself a Chick Magnet, to the point where one of his T-shirts includes a chick (read: baby bird) being drawn to a horseshoe red-and-white magnet, just in case some people didn't get the gist of his gimmick.
- It's probably more because Miz's character is basically that he is a massive tool, so he'd be the sort to provide an illustration of the concept.
- Daniel Bryan seems to be this in WWE, drawing the WWE Divas to him without even trying (or acting upon it). In one instance, he's got the Bella twins hanging on each arm.
Video Games
- Ludwig von Koopa. And, very, very likely, most popular Koopaling. Of all the Koopalings, he's the one with the girls chasing after him. Everybody loves his deep voice in New Super Mario Bros Wii.
- Mario in the Paper Mario games is treated as such.
- Many protagonists of RPGs, in particular the Final Fantasy series, display this trope, with half of the female cast falling for them on sight. Final Fantasy IX plays with this by casting a childlike wannabe ladies' man as the protagonist.
- Link isn't usually a Chick Magnet in the Zelda games, with his primary love interest (if that) being the eponymous princess, but in The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, he had a good number of other possible love interests besides Zelda: Malon, farm girl at Lon Lon Ranch who was apparently created as an Expy of Marin from The Legend of Zelda Links Awakening; Saria, who was Link's childhood friend and first major love interest, but who, in one of the game's sadder twists, couldn't grow up along with him because she's a Kokiri and Link was a Hylian; The Zora Princess Ruto, who Link had to agree to marry in exchange for the third major Spiritual Stone, and who freaked him out when she tried to hold him to that promise seven years later; and possibly Nabooru, though we never did get to find out what the "something good" was that she promised Link (though we do have our theories). There's even a male character than unabashedly hits on him. The only major good-guy female character who didn't express some form of affection toward him was Impa (And maybe Zelda herself, but that's a whole other can of worms), who was mainly concerned about Zelda's welfare and was more of a mentor figure than anything else.
- Made utterly hilarious when you consider the fact that Link is essentially a 10 year old in a 17 year old's body.
- And, in The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess, not only does he get Midna and Ilia, but the girl who runs the fishing hole seemed to have a definite thing for him. Then there's the group of fangirls he gains by making it through the clawshot minigame in Hyrule Town. Not bad for a Heroic Mime.
- Talking to a certain chicken as a wolf in Ordon reveals that even animals have a thing for Link. There is truly no escape.
- Telma the barkeeper also frequently flirted with him, despite being at least twice his age.
- Of course, it's implied that Telma flirts with lots of men; in particular, during her tenure in Kakariko, she makes advances on Renado (who quickly becomes uncomfortable around her).
- Word of God is that in OOT Navi was in love with Link making almost every major female in the game, if not every, have romantic subtext with him.
- In The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword Zelda is strongly implied to be in love with Link.
- The Item Check girl also falls head over heels for him. You can choose to go along with it or let her down (even sadder is that you're literally the only guy who ever talks to her, as no one else uses the Item Check).
- Sonic the Hedgehog is somewhat portrayed this way in the games. He even got a human character to fall in love with him. However, this isn't to the extent of the Archie Comics.
- As he says in Sonic Battle:
Got enough girls chasing me as it is.
- The Persona series:
- Minato, the main character of Persona 3. Minato starts off all his relationships with girls as just friends, but they quickly move things along and, whether he likes it or not, he becomes their boyfriend. His "harem" included the popular girl, the rich girl, the nerdy girl, the bookworm, the tomboy, a little girl who proposes to him, a robot, a transdimensional elevator attendant, and of course is essentially the subject of the affections of his teacher.
- Similarly, Akihiko, who as the "cool upperclassman" type is frequently swarmed by fangirls at school. Unlike the protagonist, however, Akihiko is mostly annoyed by the attention and proves to be shy and awkward when trying to approach girls directly, to his detriment.
- Tatsuya from Persona 2 is explicitly shown to be a chick magnet. Almost all the female cast wants him, major or minor characters. Heck, even some of the guys want him.
- Souji/Yu of Persona 4 has more girls then Minato. And unlike Persona 3, you can just be friends, and still max out your relationship.
- The Prince of Falena, in Suikoden V. Several characters and NPCs comment on the large number of attractive women in his army, to the point of it being a Running Gag. The more lecherous characters seem almost offended that he never takes advantage of the situation, or even seems to notice.
- In Suikoden IV, the hero also recruits an awful lot of women, and at least two cliques of three get together to gush and giggle over him. One of said cliques even declares themselves his personal bodyguards.
- Despite being a mecha Otaku with no knowledge on romance with women nor interest in them, Ryusei Date from Super Robot Wars OG has manage to make no less than three girls seriously fall for him. This is considerably more than most other characters with the exception of Masaki, who is himself a Chick Magnet.
- Clank, Ratchet's Robot Buddy from the Ratchet and Clank series has a strange habit of attracting various women, both robotic and organic. This starts with Edwina the RoboShack owner and the HelpDesk Girl in the first game, then a pink robot fangirl spends the next game chasing him over the galaxy in the next game, then in the third game, he gets to play a James bond-esque secret agent surrounded by adoring women, has pop star seductress Courtney Gears move in on him, in the fourth game, he begins a relationship with a robot called Venus (who is never seen again), in the Secret Agent Clank spinoff, all women in the game are in love with him. Meanwhile, the only definite love interest Ratchet has ever had is Sasha (Talwyn from the Future series seems to be on her way to becoming one, too, though).
- Zero from Mega Man X and Zero had 3 girls who had been attracted to him. One became his tragic girlfriend, while another had the unfortunate luck of meeting Zero when he's both chaste and celibate at the same time. As for the third, Ciel's human.
- Mega Man Volnutt may currently have the highscore for this series. There's Roll Casket his foster sister, best friend, and mechanic. Tron Bonne, the cute girl of his overzealous off and on enemies of circumstance. Yuna, a flirt temporarily controlling Roll's mother. Sera a dark skinned green haired quiet girl that had given both a Naked First Impression and quite a touching near death revelation. Volnutt also has at least four NPC girls profess infatuation to him in some way beyond the trend much more predominant in the first game to have every female citizen model passingly mention that he was cute.
- Despite his nerdiness, occasionally Guybrush Threepwood falls into this. Elaine seems to initially fall for him just after hearing his name from the lookout. The ghost bride in the Goodsoup crypt starts coming onto him immediately (granted, she's been waiting a LONG time for a man). He's oblivious that Morgan seems to have feelings for him beyond typical fangirlishness. And the Vacaylian merfolk practically throw themselves at him...to his extreme discomfort, as he can't tell what gender they are.
- Miles Edgeworth in Ace Attorney, according to Gumshoe. His response to this is one of shock: "D-do I really inspire that sort of frothing desire in the female masses?!"
- Shout-Out / Take That toward the fanbase.
- Roland, the protagonist of Luminous Arc 2, weaponizes his chick magnet status by using some of the superpowers of any woman he can kiss, though he's always a little embarrassed.
- A male Commander Shepard of Mass Effect counts here, if you don't play him as a dick. Over 2 games (so far) he's attracted Gunnery Chief Ashley Williams, Dr Liara T'Soni, Tali'Zorah Vas Neema, Miranda Lawson and Jack. Also Morinth, but that's not such a great idea...
- That's only crewmembers. We also have Gianna Parsini, Shiala, and at least one krogan.
EDI: Killing the Thresher Maw has produced several mating requests for Grunt. And one for Shepard.
Grunt: HA!
- A female Commander Shepard is a dude magnet. She's attracted Kaiden Alenko, Liara T'Soni (her species is omnisexual), Jacob Taylor, Garrus Vakarian, and Thane Krios.
- Then there's Kelly, who some fans cite as responsible for the varren STD on the Normandy.
- Forget all the above, in the second game both Shepards get a GETH who's clearly in love, and Harbinger...wait, best not to think about that one.
- The Shadow Broker's records in the latest download content suggests The Illusive Man is trying to be a bigger Chick Magnet than Shepard and Kelly put together.
- Souji in Suika to the extent that random girls walking up to him on the street and kissing him is not that strange an occurrence for him.
- Guy from Tales of the Abyss. Unfortunately he also suffers from severe gynophobia and thus ends up freaking himself out every time he accidentally manages to charm a girl to take interest in him.
- Flynn from Tales of Vesperia has women throwing themselves to him for as long as his childhood friend can remember. The party's Chivalrous Pervert takes him to pick up girls only to find that girls swarm over Flynn, ignoring him.
- Infinite Space has two examples: Yuri (who apparently has Unwanted Harem) and Lord Roth. The latter often appears being surrounded by fangirls whenever Yuri sees him, something that he seems to enjoy (to Nele's chagrin).
- Hiroki in Canvas 2 has seven heroines, an optional sex encounter and numerous students after him. And he's completely unaware.
- Yuuto in Eien no Aselia was popular at his school before ending up in Phantasmorgia, and after that he ends up winning the affections of essentially every named female in the cast.
- Rock Howard spent most of his adolescence in the company of men, thus explaining his easily-flustered nature around the opposite sex.[1] While this doesn't affect him much in Garou: Mark of the Wolves, he gets hit full force by this trope in The King of Fighters: Maximum Impact 2. He does so much as breathe, and yet Ninon Beart and Bonne Jenet all but throw themselves at him (hell, they even fight over "custody" of Rock in their intro poses against one another). It doesn't help that he's pretty much a lovable dork in these scenes and a kindhearted young man by default.
- The Tokimeki Memorial series has a few of them, with the good-looking and popular Takumi Oosawa, Tooru Sawatari, and Jun Ebisutani in the first game's saga, and Teru Saeki, Katsumi Shiba, and Shota Amachi in Girl's Side 2.
- In the original Tokimeki Memorial this is Rei Ijuin's gimmick. On Valentine's Day he has to bring a truck to school to fit all the chocolates he receives. Of course he's actually A Sweet Polly Oliver and a winnable girl in the game.
- Marumaro of Blue Dragon, for all his faults turns into one of these in Kelaso village. He also manages to score the the hottest chick in the game!
- Ein from Riviera: The Promised Land. He develops 4... no, 5 love interests throughout the game.
- Every protagonist in the Violated Hero game series is this. Since every women in the series is a rapist, it's a case of Blessed with Suck.
Visual Novels
- Okazaki Tomoya of Clannad. Ends up with six girls in love with him, and denies that any of them are.
- Hisao Nakai of Katawa Shoujo has five very good looking women as potential love interest within only three days of arriving at Yamaku. Its a pity that he is there because of his cogential arrythmia
- Maji De Watashi Ni Koi Shinasai has Cap and Touma who're both popular enough to have their own fan clubs.
- All hail Shiki! Wielder of the Tohno gland! Any potential female protagonist, ever. Ever.
- Knows no equal, this says it all.
- Strangely enough, it doesn't. It's an understatement. The number of females Shiki hasn't charmed to some extent can be counted on one hand; Souka Tsukihime (who thinks he's a punk), White Len (unless association counts, considering her attraction to Nanaya), and Shiki Ryougi (who already has someone).
- Unlike other Harem Anime, where the girls fall for the "average" or worse guy for no or really stupid reasons, the ones in this one is actually developed or at least "fantasy believable."
- His pheromone-storm is so powerful that when he was possessed by Roa, Arcueid tried very hard to make him her servant (she wanted him by her side she says) instead of killing him. This is saying a lot considering that she dedicated her entire immortal life to killing Roa and she is very scary about it.
- Knows no equal, this says it all.
- Mikiya in Kara no Kyoukai. Every female character except Touko. Can't compare with Tohno Shiki but yes, definitely Shiki's prototype.
- There's a good reason Touko isn't into him... (Hint: it's Shiki.)
- Emiya Shirou from Fate/stay night as well. He starts the game with at least four girls crushing at or potentially interested in him to some degree or other (Sakura being the most obvious, plus Rin, Ayako and possibly even Taiga), and as the Grail War goes on both Saber and Rider. Though she probably doesn't quite fall for him, even Ilya at least seems to find him charming or interesting in some way (though if it's mostly in the 'big brother' sense, given her apparent age (then again, she is aeighteen and sees him for the first time in her life)). Oh, and Issei seems to be gay for him too, just to top it off.
- In the magical girl spin-off Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya Shirou has the unnoticed favours of Illyasviel von Einzbern, her Dark Alter Ego Kuro (think Illya in Archer fashion), their best friend Miyu and of course Rin Tohsaka, Sakura Matou and Luvia Edelfeldt. Also, he seems to have a questionably good relationship with Cool Big Sis Sella.
- Lancer from Fate/Zero has this as a literal superpower - any woman (without sufficient magical resistance, that is) who looks at his face is charmed to fall in love with him. This never goes well for him.
Web Comics
- Sluggy Freelance plays with the trope in this strip from 2002.
- El Chupacabre (better known as "Chuy") in the webcomic Girly, who initially is under the mistaken impression that he is using his powers for good. Unfortunately, he's also a sort of unintentional Kavorka Man, and his Heel Face Turn is complicated by the fact that, no matter what he does, any woman he gets near develops a sudden and overpowering attraction to him. And let's not even start on what happened when everyone got shuffled into different bodies and his girlfriend got his, mojo and all.
- In Least I Could Do, Rayne Summers is able to seduce virtually any and every girl he meets.
- Well, I don't know about that. Check out Informed Ability on the LICD article.
- From Funny Farm, Flink's ability to turn women (and gay men) on is inexplicable, given that he's an anthropomorphic pig. Furthermore, he's not doing anything other than standing there and talking (or just standing), and most of the time doesn't think anything of the fact that they're hanging off him. He's The Fool, but he also might be the first truly asexual Chick Magnet.
- Tip in Skin Horse even when he's transformed into a different species
- So much so that he even has this effect on women who are so lesbian as to be off the Kinsey scale.
Western Animation
- Disney's Peter Pan has Tinker Bell, Wendy, Tiger Lily and a gang of mermaids all over him and easily jealous.
- Codename: Kids Next Door has Nigel/Numbuh One being an "in-training" chick magnet, with Lizzie, Rachel/Numbuh 362 and his own tree house being into him.
- Gender-flipped version: Kuki/Numbuh Three has shown to attract a lot of guys. Much to Wally/Numbuh 4's irritation.
- Avatar: The Last Airbender has two such characters. Sokka has had four girls swooning during the series, only liking two of them back (the first didn't end well), and not even being aware of one. Zuko is also in a relationship, but this doesn't stop him from attracting two girls he has met, plus a few additional ones when he went shirtless.
- Sequel Series The Legend of Korra episode "A Leaf in the Wind" introduces young pro-bender Bolin, who has "crazy fangirls." As his team enters the arena, one can be heard in the audience screaming his name.
- The Flash in the final season of Justice League Unlimited. Once he stopped hitting on practically anything that moved, girls seemed to really start going for him. Resulting in him being awkwardly flustered by the attention of at least one superheroine. He even accidentally seduced a supervillainess while in someone else's body.
- Lance from Sym-Bionic Titan.
- Despite being a Handsome Lech, Pepe LePew typically sent the female cats he fell in love with running for the hills, partly because of his skunk smell and partly because he just comes on too damn strong. On the other hand, when his odor is neutralized (on one occasion, the female cat's nose became clogged after an allergic reaction, which made her lose her sense of smell) or he gets black paint on his back which covers his white stripe (the female cats typically have white stripes painted on their backs, which makes them look like skunks), the female cats fall head-over-heels in love with him and the whole formula is gender flipped as they fall madly in love with Pepe and begin chasing him.
- Hinted with Timmy Turner from The Fairly OddParents.
- Mark Chang in his human disguise. His saying that any affection from him would cause him extreme pain, not knowing he's serious the girls just sigh dreamily.
- Trent, Justin and Alejandro from the Total Drama series.
- While any crushes in The Magic School Bus are only hinted at, geeky guy Arnold seems to get Ship Teased with other female characters the most. There's been teasing between him and the following girls: Phoebe, Wanda, Dorothy Ann, and a one-shot character named Tiffany.
- A lot of princesses from Adventure Time have shown romantic interest in Finn. Not very lucky for him, since he's The Last of His Kind and all of the girls are either dogs, elephants, slugs, cloud-like lumps, etc. The only female he is genuinely interested in, of course, typically handwaves/doesn't notice any of the Freudian Slips Finn lets out about his attraction to her. His new romantic interest Flame Princess, at least seems to like him back, although in a Tsundere-like manner.
- Rex from Generator Rex has so far attracted the attention of at least four girls that were signififcant to the plot in one way or another.
- Ben 10: Max Tennyson. Bonus points in that at least two of 'em (Xylene and Verdona, the latter of whom is Ben and Gwen's grandmother) were extraterrestrials. Even better, he's still got it even as an old man. And it's implied that that's not even the full story!
- Bob from ReBoot. He attracts Dot, Mouse, and Hexadecimal along with other minor female characters.
- Apparently, Big Macintosh from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.
- Droopy, in Tom and Jerry kids and Droopy Master Detective, even his son describes him as a "Babe Magnet". In fact he always manages to conquer the beautiful Miss Vavoom on her various incarnations, even at first sight, getting usually kisses that give him explosive reactions.
Real Life
- Frank Sinatra. Looney Tunes cartoons featuring him frequently had the members of his audience fainting, sighing "Oh Frankie!" in ecstasy, going into seizures, or screaming. They always chased after him in huge crowds once he was done performing.
- Arguably a subversion: after his death it was revealed that many of the earlier swooning women were actually actresses paid by his publicist to hype up his image before he was really famous.
- More or less the same things happened to The Beatles. Including the paying of actresses. Their publicists must have known each other.
- It has been claimed that poet/artist/songwriter/Renaissance Man Shel Silverstein had to beat the ladies off with sticks. Not a perfect example, as he wasn't at all "innocent" about it.
- Another example is Richard Sterban, he even shows it off near the end of this video, of course his voice helps too.
- The times for the above three clips are (2:18) for the first clip, (1:50) for the second clip and (0:22) for the third clip.
- Benedict Cumberbatch. Just... Benedict Cumberbatch. Disagree? Then check out this screaming audience at the Sherlock PBS Q&A (warning: DO NOT listen to the first 20 seconds with earphones).
- It should be noted that this man has absolutely no idea why he has this effect on women. He doesn't find himself attractive at all!
Female
Anime and Manga
- The title character of Miyuki-chan in Wonderland attracts the attention of
all the girlseveryone in the worlds she stumbles in, since they're all inhabited by girls only. - Haruhi Fujioka from Ouran High School Host Club is probably one of the only heterosexual girls who's still a genuine Chick Magnet, given her... unique circumstances.
- Shizuma from the Girls Love series Strawberry Panic! Naturally, there are absolutely no men in sight, but that's just okay with her.
- The whole of Urusei Yatsura's Tomobiki High School knows that Ryuunousuke's rather delusional father insists on making a man out of her, and she still gets more love letters than any guy on campus.
- Mahou Sensei Negima: It was only a two-chapter interlude, but the whole Cinema Village incident proved that Sakurazaki Setsuna + Samurai Costume = Squee!!!!
- Yue has a claim to the title too. "...she seems to attract girls left and right and drive them all to tears..."
- While neither of the two protagonists in Futari wa Pretty Cure have love interests hanging off them due to their Romantic Two-Girl Friendship, Honoka is noted to get love letters from boys all the time. More relevantly, poor Nagisa is chagrined that she gets them from the girls all the time.
- Not entirely true. Nagisa had a very strong crush on Honoka's good friend Fuji P., while Honoka herself was in love with The Mole, Kiriya, who ended up dying, being reborn and presumably loosing his memory in the process.
- Hinagiku should be here. Apparently everyone in the school likes her. Lampshaded several times, and once by the title of a chapter, "Are you a magnet or something?"
- Yuria, Kenshiro's one true love from Fist of the North Star, is sought after by a significant portion of the cast for one reason or another; most memorably by Shin, but even big scary Raoh fell for her hard.
- Ranma ½:
- Akane Tendo is wanted by Ranma, Ryoga, Kuno, the entire school, etc. It isn't until it's confirmed that Ranma is Akane's fiancée that the school (but not Ryoga or Kuno) gives up on trying to woo her.
- Also, Ranma's female form. Those who don't know she is a he pursue her. Those who do openly ogle.
- Natsuru from Kämpfer only starts attracting females after his gender-bending transformations; even the ones interested in his male form weren't interested before. Though more girls want the female Natsuru, the male version gets this reputation amplified when rumor goes around that he has a secret affair with the female Natsuru.
- Celty of Durarara!! has had people fall in love with her headless body (it is a very nice body), as well as with her disembodied head.
- Mikan of To LOVE-Ru also seems to be a Dude Magnet, and is continually being asked out by the boys in her class. Unfortunately for the guys, she's a Bro-con is denial. It seems the Yuuki family is God's gift to the opposite sex.
- Chiba from Wandering Son is a Dude Magnet. Few straight boys her age in the series have not taken a liking to her at one time or another.
- Momo from Peach Girl has about four guys after her at one time or another.
- Like her brother, Natusumi Hinata of Keroro Gunso has quite a following. Only it seems to be of the same gender. From her swooning all girl fanclub at school, to Koyuki, she's a real draw for chicks. The only male that seems to have any interest in her, is Giroro.
- THE iDOLM@STER - More of a Fangirl Magnet, but otherwise fits Makoto to a T.
- Hino of Kiniro no Corda.
- Kirie of Girls Bravo is both a Dude Magnet and a Chick Magnet.
- Mikado Akira of Hayate X Blade has a fan club with 80 members. At an all-girls school.
- Karan of No. 6.
Comic Books
- Jessica Drew's Spider Woman is a reversion of this trope: she's actually a guy magnet, thanks to her power which has a side effect of attracting men.
- Zeltrons are drawn to Leia Organa just as they are to her brother, and for the same reasons - she's heroic, famous, and Force-Sensitive.
Films -- Live-Action
- The entire plot of There's Something About Mary was based on the titular character being one of these.
- Although she tended to attract a particular type of man.
- In Chicago, Roxie Hart imagines herself as a Dude Magnet (and a Marriage Proposal Magnet) in her "I'll be a star and boy will it be swell" song.
Literature
- Bella Swan of Twilight fame. Apparently even her science teacher fancies her.
- Raven of Vampire Kisses has three guys after her at one time or another, the guys being Trevor, Jagger, and Alexander.
Live-Action TV
- Fred was a bit like this in Angel. It took her forever to notice that both Gunn and Wesley liked her, plus Amy Acker apparently got quite a lot of attention on set as well.
- Characters who have been attracted to or Ship Teased with Fred or Ilyria: Angel, Angelus, Wesley, Gunn, Spike, Knox, Connor, and Willow.
- Annie in Being Human (UK). Tully and Gilbert from Season 1; the Love Triangle with Hugh and Saul in Season 2; and now Mitchell in Season 3.
- In one episode of How I Met Your Mother, "The Window", Ted recalls his longtime crush Maggie whom he never got to date because, as he describes her, she is "catnip for men".
Video Games
- Asellus of SaGa Frontier is a rare video game example of this (still attracting girls, not guys, mind you), and there's a in-story reason for it to boot. She has the blood of the Charm Lord in her, which makes her half-mystic, but also gives her the Charm Lord's Innate abilities of seduction and attraction to females. If you see the Easter Egg, you'll understand more.
- Pamela from Mana Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis. She's a very Moe, very Cute Ghost Girl. The ghost part doesn't deter guys (even the principal!) from courting her.
- Male Commander Shepard (see above) is almost matched by his female counterpart, who gets Lt Kaiden Alenko, Jacob Taylor, Thane Krios and Garrus Vakarian. Also Liara, Morinth and Shiala, but I'm not sure if that counts for this trope.
- Kelly doesn't let something like gender bother her.
- Kelly doesn't let anything bother her.
- The female protagonist of Persona 3 Portable counts as a Dude Magnet. Junpei (the only male in SEES she cannot have a romantic relationship with) notes that a number of guys he talks to are interested in her. At least two of her Social Links develop feelings for her, although she can't have a relationship with them, another one calls her beautiful, and she is able to (optionally. As noted above, the game developers have realized that it is possible for boys and girls to just be friends) romance Akihiko (himself a Chick Magnet), Ken, Ryoji who eventually turns out to be an unwilling Big Bad, and Shinjiro who is implied to have fallen for her whether the player chooses to become lovers with him or not. Then there's Theo...
Visual Novels
- Osanai Shouko from Girls Love Visual Novel Aoi Shiro attracts a lot of girls up to having something dangerously close to Twin Threesome Fantasy sex. The fact that she's an extremely charming Sempai doesn't help, though it's more obvious when the story is related from other characters' point of view.
- It's more justified in case of Hatou Kei: she is Supernaturally Delicious and Nutritious, so a lot of characters want her as food. Most of them settles somewhere between treating her as blood dispenser and lover.
- Kaine from A Profile, which is funny considering he's not even the protagonist. He actually gets more attention from girls than Masayuki does. But if it wasn't for the fact that Masayuki hangs around with Miou, a suspected prostitute, he would get even more attention.
Web Original
- Thunderbird, in the Whateley Universe. He's gotten all the way into his sophomore year at Whateley Academy without noticing that all the girls on his training team, that girl who is always on his case about something, and that girl he thinks of as a 'little sister' are all crushing on him. Now he has Chaka after him too.
- Obscurus Lupa fends off the advances of Todd in the Shadows and Stickman from "What The Fuck Is Wrong With You?," in addition to Angry Joe calling her hot, Sage and the Nostalgia Critic offering to kiss her, Linkara implying that he wants to make out with her, 90s Kid outright saying he wants to make out with her and Diamanda Hagan being pregnant with Lupa's baby. The Linkara bit has Lupa ask "Why is everyone in love with me?" Parodied in a "Previously On..." segment on "Atop the Fourth Wall" (in fact, the same one with Diamanda) where Welshy laments that "she got another one. Film Brain is now in love with Obscurus Lupa."
Western Animation
- Gwen from the Total Drama series—she has three guys (Duncan, Trent and Cody) who like her, and a couple more who have commented that she's good looking.
- Gadget from Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers definitely qualifies; Chip and Dale were constantly competing for her affection, and many guest characters fell for her charms, too, not that she often noticed. It helps that she was the only regular female character.
- The Lance Nine Trillion in his sole episode of Time Squad is a literal example of a dude magnet. This is also true of his human coworker, J.T. Laser, but only Lance actually attracts his adoring fanboy (the Larry 3000, in this case) magnetically.
- An episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force has Shake buying a literal Chick Magnet. It ends up feminizing those in its aura.
- The Legend of Korra: Korra. Both Bolin and Mako are attracted to her. Tahno offers to show her how a "real pro bends."
- Trixie of The Fairly OddParents.
- ↑ considering his life after his mother's death/before Terry adopted him, this is still the better alternative
