During the 2000–01 English football season, West Ham United competed in the FA Premier League (known as the FA Carling Premiership for sponsorship reasons).

Season summary

The sale of Rio Ferdinand to Leeds United contributed towards a dip in West Ham's otherwise good Premiership form, seeing them 8th by Boxing Day, and mystery surrounded the departure of manager Harry Redknapp on 9 May following a row with chairman Terry Brown over transfer cash for what the club needed to challenge for a top six finish next season.[1] Alan Curbishley, Steve McClaren and George Graham were just some of the many names linked with the vacancy before it was announced that caretaker manager and former youth coach Glenn Roeder would be taking over on a permanent basis.[2]

Hislop was born in Hackney, England, and represented them at U-21 level, but was raised in Trinidad and Tobago and made his international debut for Trinidad and Tobago in 1999.
Potts was born in Hartford, Connecticut, the United States.
Lomas was born in Hanover, Germany, but also qualified to represent Northern Ireland internationally and made his international debut for Northern Ireland in 1994.
Kanouté was born in Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon, France, and represented them at U-21 level, but also qualified to represent Mali internationally through his father and made his international debut for Mali in 2004.
