Balcony of the Palace of Shadows

This was a balcony on the sixth floor of the Palace of Shadows. It was used by Most High Academes to make speeches to the citizens of Sanctaphrax.

History

Throughout the early First Age of Flight, the balcony was used by Most High Academes for making speeches. It fell into disuse sometimes before -59 ᴇ.ʏ., when the last earth-scholar High Academe died.

After this, it was left unused until 1 ᴇ.ʏ., when Linius Pallitax gave his enthronement speech from the balcony. Over the next 14 years until his death, he used the balcony for all his formal addresses to the citizens of the city.

In 15 ᴇ.ʏ., Quintinius Verginix and his father, Captain Wind Jackal, entered the palace via the balcony using a gangplank from their sky ship. Wind Jackal and Linius then sat on the balcony to discuss Quint's apprenticeship to Linius. About two weeks later, the balcony was destroyed by fire when the Palace of Shadows burnt down.

Layout

The balcony was located on the sixth floor of the palace, connected to the balcony-chamber by a set of tall glass doors.[1]

The edge of the balcony was surrounded by the Low Parapet, a small, waist-high wall, decorated with the carved heads of goblins. Several wrought ironwood benches were placed on the balcony[1], as well as lightning-rods[2].
