Suikoden III/Characters
Cast of Characters
Suikoden III
The Flame Champion
- Big Good: Leader of the Fire Bringer who drove Harmonia.
- The Chosen One: By the True Fire Rune.
- Composite Character: His overall design is a mixture of both Tir McDohl and Riou.
- Expy: Somewhat resembles Son Goku.
- Folk Hero: To Grassland tribes. Have fun by naming him classical names like 'Hercules' or 'Robin Hood'.
- Hello, Insert Name Here: You can call the hero any name you wish.
- Law of Chromatic Superiority: Red fire powers and a red/white outfit for the legendary leader and warrior.
- Legacy Character: Anyone who wears True Fire after him becomes the Flame Champion.
- Magnetic Hero: Implied as he united all the grassland tribes together.
- Mayfly-December Romance: Deconstructed.
- No Name Given: He doesn't have a cannon name.
- Playing with Fire: Uses True Fire.
- Posthumous Character: Unknown to many, he gave up his True Rune and died before the events of the game.
- Simple Staff: His weapon of choice.
- Take Up My Sword: He is dead, but one of the three protagonists can inherit his True Rune and become the new Flame Champion.
Hugo
- Born Winner
- The Chief's Son
- Chronic Hero Syndrome: Of the three, he's the one with classic old fashioned heroism. He's gotta help someone in trouble.
- Dark-Skinned Blond
- Determinator
- Green Eyes
- The Hero
- Heroic Bastard: It's implied by the timeline (and the fact that no one seems to know Hugo's father's identity) that he was conceived while Lucia was aiding Highland in the war against Jowston during Suikoden II.
- Knife Nut: His weapon.
- Legacy Character/Elemental Powers: Canonically, he will inherit the True Fire Rune. But depending on who you choose as the TFR successor, he'll either have the True Lightning Rune (if the player chose Geddoe) or the the True Water Rune (if the player chose Chris).
- Lightning Bruiser: He's fast, he's powerful, and he has a griffin.
- Royals Who Actually Do Something: By Grassland standards.
- Warrior Prince: Is son of the Karayan chief Lucia.
Chris Lightfellow
- Action Girl
- Battle Ballgown: Her suit of armor.
- Big Fancy House: Lightfellow is a well to do family after all.
- The Captain: Of the Zexen Knights, with the power and respect to back it up.
- Cool Horse
- Defrosting Ice Queen: Staring off she's as rigid and cold as her armor, but mellows a bit by the end of the game.
- Even the Girls Want Her: Cecile, Ayame and Yun are all quite fond of her.
- The Hero
- Hot Chick with a Sword
- Iron Lady: When in command of the Zexen Knights, she is confident and assertive, and her all male unit are quick to fall in line and follow orders. Before the Zexen Council, however, she is more Silk Hiding Steel in that she has to bow and obey and subvert them subtly, like pretending not to notice Budehuc Castle going into bussiness for itself.
- Jeanne D'Archetype: Chris inherits her position from her dead superior and feels uncomfortable in it, but carries it out for the good of Zexen's people.
- Knight in Shining Armor: Not as optimistic as most, but she tries.
- Lady of War: Watch how easily she handles Hugo in Chapter 1 and say she isn't.
- Legacy Character/Elemental Powers: Canonically, she will inherit the True Water Rune from her father Jimba. But if the player makes her the True Fire Rune successor, Hugo will inherit the TWR.
- Letting Her Hair Down: The tail end of Chapter 2 through the beginning of Chapter 4, only, sadly.
- Lightning Bruiser: Subverted. Chris is strong and has great offensive skills, like "Accuracy", "Damage", "Heavy Damage" and "Parry" (the latter two can be upgraded to Rank A), and she is very durable and can equip heavy armor and learn "Repel" and "Armor Protect", but her speed is average.
- Lonely Rich Kid: No siblings and no friends, only co-workers.
- Magic Knight: Of The Paladin variety if she inherits the True Water Rune. She's a bad mage otherwise.
- Mighty Glacier
- Military Brat: Her dad was a knight before her.
- The Ojou: Lightfellow is a high up family, but her unit treats her like royalty.
- Parental Abandonment: Her dad disappeared and her mom isn't around.
- Purple Eyes: Her eyes are purple.
- Red Baron: The Silver Maiden, The White Hero of Zexen.

- Heroic Bastard
- I Have No Son: His dad sent him to Budehuc so he could forget about him.
- The Ishmael
- Magikarp Power: While canonically a Non-Action Guy, Thomas is gifted with a huge number of skill slots, making him one of the most customizable characters in the game. He starts out at level 1, with weak equipment and a sword that hasn't been upgraded even once, but if you take the time build him up, you'll find that just because he doesn't like fighting doesn't mean he's bad at it.
- Martial Pacifist
- Messianic Archetype
- Nice Guy: Really nice. The castle inhabitants don't like him, but he just stay polite.
- They warm up to him over the span of his chapters, eventually becoming fiercely loyal to protecting Thomas.
- Non-Action Guy: He's a moderately wealthy city boy with no combat experience thrown into the middle of an all out war. He begins at level 1 wielding a rusty old sword that he flails around randomly, gets winded after jogging for a bit and gets dizzy whenever he does his Combination Attack with Cecille, during which he contributes much less than her. His true contributions to the army are his kind heart and his unwavering spirit.
- The Pollyanna: He has a Darkest Hour in his Gaiden, but other than that, he's always optimstic.
- Something Completely Different: His characterization is a departure from the typical Tenkai Star. See Non-Action Guy above and Supporting Protagonist below for details.
- Supporting Protagonist: He is the Tenkai star, but he isn't The Hero or Big Good of the series.
- The Unfavorite
