Another proof of Japan's excellence in weird and catchy things. You'd think not being able to understand Japanese would help, but nooooo...

Looks like almost all anime has at least one piece of music tailored to be an earworm, as a huge amount of them succeed. If you don't remember about a music featured in a series, you usually don't remember about the series at all.

Helpful Tip: Don't just leave some Japanese lyrics and a YouTube link; naming the series is much preferred. Additionally, YouTube videos have a tendency to disappear, and then nobody will get to have your song stuck in their head... and you wouldn't want that, would you? Consider using Rutube, with an online translator (such as BabelFish) if you need help navigating the site; quality will suffer, but as copyrights in Russia are rarely enforced videos on RuTube will not go down.

• All of the below can be traced back to the English version of the original Astro Boy. Any and all complaints about modern anime OP causing ear worms can be directed to Fred Ladd, who decided to add lyrics to the then instrumental Japanese OP since it wasn't catchy enough. This caused Osamu Tezuka to add lyrics to later seasons of Astro Boy since he liked the effect, which caused everyone to add catchy lyrics to their anime OP since they also liked it. • Panty and Stocking With Garterbelt has the great Fallen Angel ED. Specially true when you're seeing the actual ending.

    • The show's final opening, "WORLD END" (by the group that did COLORS).
      • The song that plays during Lelouch's death. Cute, powerful, and almost guarenteed to make you cry. "Continued Story" by Hitomi.
  • Siegfried, the song that played while Lelouch was revealing his plan to Geass "God".
  • Innocent Days - the song that played during Euphemia's death scene. Know what 'hauntingly beautiful' sounds like.
  • The fourth opening, O2. I CONTINUE TO FIGHT! I CONTINUE TO FIIIIIGHT!

• This is pretty much the point of any Dancing Theme.
• "Lum's Love Song", the first opening for Urusei Yatsura (Suki yo.. Suki yo...)
  • The later one that goes "You are watching me, I am watching you" is also tres catchy.
  • "Cosmic Cycler! Cosmic Cycler. Lun Lun Lun away home!!" Oh god. It sticks in the head.
  • ROCK THE PLANET! ROCK THE PLANET, BABY! ROCK THE PLANET - FOR EVERYONE!!! Seriously, Opening 5, video and all, is just The Eighties concentrated into a minute thirty seconds of awesomeness.
• Anything from Demashita! Powerpuff Girls Z. This troper was listening to them on repeat constantly. Especially Jig the Upper. Whoa Woah Yeah Sunshine Powa!
• Komm, susser tod. Oh jesus christ on a cracker. What makes it even worse is, you're likely to get sent to a mental institution if you sing the actual lyrics in public.
  • The song with lyrics for convenience.
  • This Troper is now determined to try that.
  • Za-n-koku na tenshi no you ni...
    • Hinagiku's version too.
  • Also, The Beast II. A hauntigly powerful Dark Reprise of one of the fighting scenes' BGM's, which plays during the more tragic and nightmare-inducing action sequences towards the end. Specially during this troper's personal favourite. In episode 19, when Eva-01 goes berserk after a hard fight with Zeruel, she curb-stomps him easily then start to eat the angel's S2 Organ, while making a hellish howling *shudders*, the song fits perfectly in the scene's terrifying mood and Yui's slowed-down growl of agony, inside Unit-01. And I still catch myself humming it occasionally.
• LET'S STAY TOGETHER ALWAYS! That ending theme filled with concentrated cuteness, too. Remembering correctly, it had something to do with happy dinners and episode recaps. Eh, Fruits Basket IS concentrated cuteness.
  • Not to mention this little Music Box tune, which the troper finds to be a worse offender than the two themes put together.
• The second ending theme of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, "Minna no Piisu" (Everbody's Peace), especially the Gratuitous English filled refrain (Love & Rock, notte OK!).
  • And, no matter what anyone says about Narm -- Do the impossible, see the invisible, ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWAH!
    • Touch the untouchable, break the unbreakable, ROW ROW FIGHT THA POWAH!
    • On discovering that song was in the karaoke catalog a few months ago, this troper and two friends attempted to perform it. Seeing the ridiculous lyrics in writing was simply too much, and we succumbed to hysterical laughter punctuated by an occasional gasp of FIGHT DA POWAH! for the duration.
    • Also combined with opera lyrics in "Libera-me from Hell" to highlight some of the most epic scenes in the final arc.
  • The opening, Sorairo Days!

    • Hell, add any song used in any season. Including the Zetsubou Sensei Drawing Song.
• This troper has started watching Azumanga Daioh, and now he can't get "Soramimi Cake" out of his skull for neither love nor money.

    • The Miku version is even worse.
  • Tsukurimashou! Tsukurimashou! Sate sate nani ga dekiru ka na?
  • Several of the Image Songs are ear-worms too. Osaka's "Time Pavement," Sakaki's "Shin wa Shoujo de Parachute," and Kagura's "Ashita wa Makenai GO! FRIEND!" come to mind.
  • The ending theme is one, too, of a more light, fluffy variety. Raspberry Heaven! Hitori ja naite...

  • The show may have been generic crap, but this troper can't hep but listen to that song every day.
  • Continuing the tradition: OSORE! LIVING YOUR LIFE, DON"T GIVE UP NOW, KEEP MOVING ON! KIMI WO DAKISHIMERU NAMNDOMO NANDOMO NANDOMOOOOOOOOOO!!!
• Through The Night from Outlaw Star. Couldn't pronounce half the words on pain of death, but that apparently doesn't prevent them from flying circles around the brain...
  • This troper concurs. This Troper spent YEARS going "AI DAKE, YUME DAKE, KIMI DAKE" while sitting idly, and in high school he could segue into it from pretty much any rock song you can name. Needless to say, this annoyed the CRAP out of his friends.
  • He's also got both the music bits that play during the episode title and the second part of the Eyecatch.
• Recently (for this troper), DRAGON (New Getter Robo opening) By JAM Project. He has no idea why.
  • Try GONG. "I GET THE POWER OF LOVE!" (Actually, that's a lie. Try SKILL. That's an earworm.)
    • Bugger that, VICTORY! "V I C T O R Y~! Three-two-one-zero never give up, oh yeeeeah~!"
    • Let's just say they have a wormy discography. To this list this troper nominates Destination, Break Out, Fire Wars, and ROCKS. We can keep going, if you like.
    • And their latest single, Hello Darwin! Curiosity on Demand, the 9th OP to Keroro Gunsou, is one of the highest order. Naturally, it was composed by Kageyama Hironobu himself.
      • As is their theme for The Movie, Space Roller Coaster GO! GO!.
    • The lack of acknowledgment for the addictive qualities of Majin Kenzan is stunning. A-I YO-RI A-KA-KUUUUUUUUUU!
  • It'd be easier to just say damn near everything by JAM Project and their members are earworms, and most of them overlap with CMOA.
• Waka Laka is probably like this. I've only seen the version with Osaka once, and it surfaces every once in a while.
  • It's the sped up DDR version, which also is responsible for the version of "Witch Doctor"
• The OP from the first season of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni combines this trope with horror. See for yourself. If that isn't bad enough, the 'unintelligible' chant is actually intentional backmasking saying "nigerarenai" (meaning You Can't Run Away). Naraku no Hana, the 2nd season OP, features this part un-backmasked. On a scene that looks like a happy walk to school with the protagonists. Not quite as horrifying as the first OP, but unsettling and Ear Worm-ish all the same.
  • Speaking of Higurashi, do you know Oyashiro-sama? Yes, Hinamizawa. I kill you you kill me. No, Hinamizawa.
  • Don't forget the opening for Higurashi's OVA, Rei and the main song for the live action movie...

  • How do you make an existing Ear Worm even more of an Ear Worm? By combining two versions of it together and having the characters scream their attacks and various other Hot-Blooded dialogue throughout the whole thing.

• Eureka Seven's 4th opening, Sakura. If that song doesn't have you bouncing, you have no soul.

  • Shounen Heart is this troper's latest earworm. The random English words, Hot-Blooded lyrics and pretty rainbow subtitles don't help.

  • The first ending, Himitsu Kichi, refuses to leave This Troper alone.
  • The third opening, To the Center of the Sun, is 3 minutes of Hot-Blooded Crowning Music of Awesome, and will not leave your brain once in there.

• Ichigo 100%'s ending, Ike Ike. Especially when you see the para para/dance for the song...
  • This troper had to take all the Hinoi Team she had OFF her iPod because their entire discography is so catchy she'd stopped listening to them.

• "Fighting evil by moonlight, winning love by daylight..."
  • The Spanish version is a lot worse. Perdona si no puedo ser sincera, si en mis sueños te lo confieso...
    • You say that because you didn't try the Italian versions: there are five and each one is gonna get ^{[dead link]} stuck into your head.
    • Actually, the Dutch eurobeat one is much worse.
      • And that's just a re-recording of the German one ^{[dead link]} . Let's just say that Sailor Moon's openings have traditionally always been this, whatever the quality of the show itself in the language in question.

  • If you've watched the fifth season, Nagareboshi He is inescapable. Search for your love...
    • The worst earworm was "My only love." This troper searched everywhere to find the complete song and listened to it endlessly.
    • For me, it HAS to be Power of Love, which plays in the confrontation between Neo Queen Serenity and the Wiseman. A slightly shortened version is in this clip from the episode
    • The entire damn fifth season is full of earworms. Sailor Star Song, Todokanu Omoi ^{[dead link]} , Motto Suteki na Asa ga Kuru yo ^{[dead link]} ....
  • Moon Revenge, from the Sailor Moon R movie, does it for this troper.
    • This troper concurs, and can pretty much sing the entire damn song perfectly after all these years. And can't hear it without visualizing the entire scene in the movie.
      • If we're going to mention songs from the movies, this troper's putting in a vote for this beautifully addictive and catchy song from SuperS.
  • For this troper it's the Starlights transformtion theme. Damn addicting synthesizers.
    • Oh yes. Ties with the Outer Senshi transformation for best BGM ever in that show.

  • Speaking of Tatsunoko Productions, just from watching videos of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, this troper was then unable to dislodge the Yatterman theme song off his head for a day.

  • CHAAAANGE INTO DIGITAL CHAMPIONS TOOOO SAVE THE DIGITAL WORLD.
  • "Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh oh, Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh...HERE WE GO!" Just when you get it out, they all go home and it plays again.

  • Things are starting to accelerate into something, never stopping always trouble bubbling!

climax of every episode, helps. That and a fairly good use of Gratuitous English.

  • This troper has "Wenn wir fahren gegen engeland" ^{[dead link]} (from the OVA IV) forever in her head (and she knows the lyrics), which is always a problem seeing as it's a Nazi marching song.

Because the episodes that aired here on CITV of season 2 replaced the English theme with the even catchier song Razzamatazz by Froggy Mix, and that song got stuck in her head after hearing it the very first time.
  • Speaking of the dub, the first opening Will get lodged in your mind VERY easily. it may not play over and over, but just think about it and it will play in your mind on demand.
  • Don't forget the surprisingly catchy "On the Wings of a Dream" sung by Madison in the dub. She's a little squeaky on the high notes, but her duet with the Song card is very good.

The highly recognizable yowling synthesizer tones in the intro add greatly to its impact--this troper starts to feel a bit melancholic whenever she hears it.
  • ((BROKEN))Split by the same band, used als the ending theme in the second season, has pretty much the same effect, being more of the same--but slower.
• The opening from Lupin III. Even Adult Swim caught that one; they made a commercial for the show that was just the words "Da-da-daaaaa da-da-da" repeated over to fit the song.
