2020 in film
2020 in film is an overview of events, including award ceremonies, festivals, a list of country-specific lists of films released, and notable deaths. This year was greatly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Around the world and to varying degrees, cinemas have been closed, film festivals have been canceled or postponed, and film releases have been moved to later dates or delayed indefinitely. As cinemas were closed, global box offices fell by billions of dollars, streaming became more popular, and cinema film inventories dropped dramatically. Many blockbusters that were originally scheduled to be released between March and December were postponed or canceled around the world, with film production also stopped.
