Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Abridged Series/Characters
Compare/contrast the Character Sheet for the source anime.
Main Characters
Yugi Muto
Ah, yes. Our protagonist, ladies and gentlemen. In the Abridged Series, Yugi shares the most amount of ever-so coveted screen time with Yami. His story plays out pretty much the same as it normally does, except with more card games and snarkiness.
- Adorkable: At least two people have mistaken him for a baby panda. Including the spirit that possesses him regularly.
- Anime Hair: Which is crazy enough for two people.
- Anti-Hero: Varies between Type I and Type III. He's quite often a jerk, even to his friends, and can be very bitter and cynical at times, but he does show he's a good guy mostly.
- Catch Phrase: "Super Special Awesome" and "Let Me Get This Straight......"
- Deadpan Snarker
- Genre Savvy
- The Hero: Although he believes the Pharaoh to be the hero.
- Hipster: "I'm Yugi Moto, and I was playing card games before it was cool."
- It's All About Me: Acknowledges his role as main character, but sometimes lets it get out of hand; i.e, not allowing anyone more screen time than him.
- He then questions this when he starts to believe that the Pharaoh is the hero. Although they both really don't want anyone cutting in on their screen time.
- Kid with the Leash: Currently the page quote (for a very good reason).
Yami Yugi: Couldn't I just mind-crush him?
Yugi: You can't fix all your problems by mind-crushing people!
Yami Yugi: Oh, come on! Just one little mind-crush, it'll barely hurt him.
Yugi: No! Bad pharaoh! No mind-crush!
- Meta Guy: Starting from halfway through Season 2, he's often the first to complain about plot holes or nonsensical plans. A striking example is when he acknowledges the undertones of the speech delivered by Joey about how the abridged series has introduced many to the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise and he has the fanbase by his side:
This is so meta.
- Mundane Utility: Uses the millennium puzzle as a fashion accessory and visits the Pharaoh's soul room when he gets bored.
- Only Sane Man
- Smoking Is Cool: Averted. He mentions he should quit smoking after running for a relatively short time makes him exhausted.
- Sexier Alter Ego
- Sharing a Body
Yami Victor Yugi, aka "The Pharaoh" aka "Dan Green"
The incredibly FABULOUS alter-ego of our protagonist. In the Abridged Series, Yami is not as heroic as he used to be, but at the same time he's just as hammy, if not more so. Yami is a bastard, to put it simply, but his antics are just so damn hilarious that we can't help but love him for it. Has a penchant for Mind Crushing gay clowns and in the old days used to summon monsters out of thin air to brutally murder anyone he deemed as a threat. In the past, he also wasn't a benevolent pharaoh, as evidenced by his tradition of Slavemas. All in all, a difficult man to figure out.
- Ambiguously Gay: Bakura's gaydar has reacted to him, he believes that the Millennium Puzzle is just fabulous, has an obsession with leather pants and claimed that he was straight if Kaiba's ghost was real. Turns out the "ghost" was actually a gay clown.
- Alternatively, Bi the Way, because of Téa. However, in "They Saved Tristan's Brain," it's revealed that he isn't sure if she's a girl.
- And then there's Bonds Beyond Time Abridged.
- Alternatively, Bi the Way, because of Téa. However, in "They Saved Tristan's Brain," it's revealed that he isn't sure if she's a girl.
- Am I Right?: "Hey, Joey. Watapon! Am I right?" - About one of the cards in Kaiba's lame-ass deck when he takes over the duel with Noah.
- Anti-Hero: Type V -> Type IV. He cares nothing for anyone, loves to Mind Crush people, when Yugi's friends are in danger his reactions range from indifference to joy, and in Season 0 he's completely Ax Crazy.
- Ax Crazy
- The Caligula: His rule as Pharaoh Atem; "Slavemas" is the only word you need.
- Deadpan Snarker
- Depraved Bisexual: Comes off as this, at least in the "What would Yugi do?" video.
- Genre Savvy
- Hell-Bent for Leather
- The Hero: Yugi's perception. Actually more like The Lancer.
- Heroic Comedic Sociopath: On Christmas, he sent Marik and his evil Council of Doom a present. A bomb.
- His season zero counterpart is a full blown psycho who just seems to like killing the people who hurt Yugi, making him heroic in the loosest possible definition.
Yami: Hey Kaiba, your body guards stole my Grampa's card so I stole their kidneys. Seemed like a fair trade to me.
- Jerkass
- Large Ham: Obviously, since in the dub, he's voiced by Dan Green.
- Laughing Mad: His Season Zero persona as he's being released by Yugi. He does one hell of an Evil Laugh.
- Meta Guy: Unlike his counterpart, he's been this since day one.
- Older Alter Ego
- Only Known by Their Nickname: Referred to as "[the] Pharaoh" by most of the characters; just as it was in the original show.
Yami: I have had many names. Once I was known as 'Pharaoh'. Then I was 'The Artist Formerly Known as Pharaoh'. But you can call me 'Yami'.
Yugi: I thought your name was Ate-
Yami: Shh! Don't spoil it, now!
- Only Sane Man
- Politically Incorrect Hero: Aims a string of misogynistic insults at the offscreen, comatose Mai in episode 54, much to Joey's discomfort. "It's funny because she's a woman."
- Sealed Evil in a Can: Season Zero mostly, but he has his moments in the main series ("Now burn it, Yugi. BURN IT TO THE GROUND!").
- Super-Powered Evil Side: In Season Zero. See Heroic Sociopath
Steve "Joey" Wheeler
The Lancer. Joey serves the same role as he does originally. Has a habit of subconsciously saying "Nyeh!" at times and is a closet furry. Might also have an attraction to Kaiba, but then again, who doesn't? On the other hand, he's recently admitted his love for Mai Valentine's breasts. His name was also legally changed to Steve so Marik could take over his mind for a short time, but he is still referred to by his original name.
It was recently revealed that he was indirectly responsible for Noah's death. During the incident that caused Joey and Serenity to be separated (said incident being teaching her how to drive while underage), she forgot to apply the handbrake, and ended up running over Noah.
- Aloof Big Brother: More of a Jerkass Big Brother.
- Bi the Way
- Brooklyn Rage: Trope Namer. Though not an example himself, being from Japan.
- Butt Monkey
- Catch Phrase:
- "Brooklyn Rage!!", which didn't catch on... in-universe, anyhow.
- Must...risk...life...for X!
- Furry Fandom: A member. He prefers to keep it hidden from Serenity, but has fully admitted it to his friends.
- Hair of Gold
- Homoerotic Dream: Dressed up as a dog and forced to obey Kaiba. This isn't the only time.
- Idiot Hero
- Jerkass
- The Lancer
- Patrick Stewart Speech: Delivers one in episode 50 where Joey defends the institution of The Abridged Series.
- Verbal Tic: "Nyeh!"
Steve "Téa" Gardner
In the Abridged Series, Téa is incredibly fixated on friendship. She honestly believes that friendship is the ultimate source of power and can right any wrong, God bless her. If you say otherwise, however... Be afraid. Be very afraid. She can and will make speeches about friendship when provoked, and if she focuses on a single target, well...the less said, the better. Her name was also legally changed to Steve so Marik could take over his mind for a short time, but she is still referred to by her original name.
- Abhorrent Admirer
- Beware the Nice Ones
- Blue Eyes
- Butt Monkey: While not on the level of Joey and Tristan, she still qualifies.
- The Chick
- Cross-Dressing Voices/Larynx Dissonance
- Depending on the Artist: Lampshaded in episode 49
- Good Is Not Nice: She uses The Power of Friendship to Mind Rape somebody. 'Nuff said.
- Loveable Sex Maniac: "The only one who will be taking my body is Yugi and/or Yami". This despite the fact that she has offered herself to Duke Devlin, declared that she wanted to sleep with Marik, and even tried to seduce Yugi's Grandpa.
- Loves Yugi's Sexy Alter Ego: Though she also wants to hook up with Yugi at times.
- Master of the Mixed Message
Yugi: Thanks for standing up for me, Téa.
Téa: That's okay, Yugi. You know I think you're really cute.
Yugi: Hey, you wanna go out some time?
Téa: I meant as a friend, Yugi.
Yugi: ...Oh, um, okay... sorry.
Téa: But I do love you.
Yugi: Really?!
Téa: As a friend, Yugi!
Yugi: Oh... Alright.
Téa: Let's have sex later, okay?
Yugi: ...Huh?
Téa: AS FRIENDS, Yugi! Geez, such a pervert.
- Straight Man: She tries, but often ends up acting as goofy as the rest of her friends.
- The Power of Friendship: A firm believer.
- The Tease: Towards Yugi in Season 0.
- Yaoi Fangirl:
- Ships Harry Potter characters.
- Hinted at earlier in episode nine:
Joey: Man, I had the most unbelievable dream. There were two Yugis, and Bakura was a main character!
Téa: I usually enjoy dreams that involve two Yugis, but that one was very disappointing.
Tristan Timothy Taylor
Tristan is...dumb. Really dumb. For real. That is pretty much all there is to be said about him. However, when he isn't stuck in his own bizarre little world, he can be surprisingly badass: his voice gives him super strength, after all. His physical body has recently been destroyed/possessed, and he is now living as a robotic monkey. His friends think that he has died.
- Anime Hair
- Butt Monkey
- Catch Phrase:
- "Holy **** on a **** sandwich", later added on by saying "with **** on top", then a third time by finishing it with "And a side helping of ****". He also said the original line uncensored in episode 48:
"Holy bleep on a bleep sandwich!"
- "My voice gives me super strength", he also mentions his voice knowing kung-fu.
- "Burn the Witch!"
- Cloudcuckoolander: Big time.
"Zack and Cody are my imaginary friends!"
- Well, they were his shoulder angels.
- Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Yeah, he can break necks with his mind.
- The Gump: According to the trailer of episode 51, he fought in the Vietnam War, gave Mr/T his name (the "T" stands for "Tristan"), and went back in time with the Doctor and wiped out the dinosaurs.
- Idiot Hero
- The Other Darrin: His voice changed in episode 8 (like the 4Kids dub)... only to get it back in episode 9.
Tristan[with original voice returned]: Hey, what gives? I liked my new voice! People were starting to take me seriously!
Yami: Sorry, Tristan, but it's much easier to make fun of you this way.
- The Ditz
- Simpleton Voice: It gives him super strength!
- Too Dumb to Live
Seto Kaiba
Current president of Kaiba Corporation. Seto's story roughly remains the same from the original show, with some minor exceptions. A little known fact is that he once experimented with several drugs which made him believe at one point that his hair was green. Never misses the opportunity to be as Badass as possible and screw the rules with whatever is necessary. (Namely with his money since he's obscenely rich).
He's also a robot created by Frieza during the times of Ancient Egypt to rule in his stead (making Frieza Kaiba's real father), but due to boredom with the desert environment Frieza just left the planet. How Kaiba was activated and by whom is still unknown. Then again, considering whom he got this information from...
As it turns out, the whole bit about Frieza was a lie. The Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past from the Future is his real father. Probably.
Was sued by Industrial Illusions for "shady business deals", but after he assured everyone that he was winning, he actually did.
- Affably Evil: In season 0.
- Abusive Parents
- Anti-Hero: Referred to as one by Marik. Type IV.
- Atomic F-Bomb: This scene.
- Badass Longcoat
- Bizarro Universe: Kaiba's green-haired incarnation in Season Zero is... different: a Nice Guy White Prince Love Freak who just wants to be friends with Yugi et. co. He only acts aggressive when provoked, and thinks Yami's threats of Mind Rape and A Fate Worse Than Death are "neat". He also firmly believes in the Power of Friendship, is Mokuba's bitch, and he only plays Duel Monsters for fun. Yami (and the audience) are horrified.
- Blue Eyes: He has three of them. Also, his actual eye color is blue.
- Catch Phrase: Played with. "Screw the rules, I have money" is considered his catchphrase, but he only says it twice. This is even lampshaded when Ishizu says its his catchphrase, and Kaiba mutters "Haven't said that in years". However, he likes dropping variations of the phrase such as "screw the yules" or "Screw the Money, I Have Rules", so he manages to both play the trope straight and avert it.
Kaiba: Looks like the Rules ... (puts on sunglasses) ... Just got Screwed.
- Corrupt Corporate Executive: He takes over Domino City to host a card game and when someone says that his explaining of the tournament rules is boring he tells them to "Get the hell out of my city!"
- Creepy Child: Yu-Gi-Oh!: Season 0 episode two portrays him as this, to the point that the theme song for Mister Roger's Neighborhood' can sound unsettling.
Kaiba (creepy monotone): I'm Seto Kaiba! The nicest guy on the face of the planet!
- Deadpan Snarker
- Flat Earth Atheist: Parodied to a great extent. Even calling himself "the most skeptical person on this show".
- It's All About Me: Granted, he knows the show isn't all about him, but he still thinks it should be. In fact, he makes The Movie come to a grinding halt just to point out that he's a better character than Yugi/Yami.
Robot: It's all about you, isn't it, Kaiba.
Seto: Well, yeah.
- Jerkass
- Made of Iron: Emerges from the flaming wreckage of a motorcycle crash completely unharmed.
"It's a good thing I'm Seto Kaiba, or that might've actually hurt me."
- TV Tropes Made of Win Archive: Yes indeed
- Of Course I Do Drugs: "I am on a drug. It's called SETO FREAKIN' KAIBA."
- One-Liner: Delivers one to Ishizu after he wins their duel. Based on his own memetastic one liner.
- Ridiculously Human Robot: If the "Kaiba's Real Father" side story would have been canonical with the main series.
- Screw Destiny: "F*ck destiny! I'm Seto Kaiba!"
- Screw the Rules, I Have Money: Trope Namer
- Self-Made Orphan: Fired his own parents.
- He also forced Gozaburo Kaiba to adopt him by beating him at chess, making him a Self Made Adopted Child... or something.
- Suicidal Overconfidence: "Even though there's absolutely no chance of success, I'm going to defy all logic and attack you anyway!"
- The Unfettered
- The Un-Smile: +1 dead puppies.
- Vocal Evolution: Inverted. Rather than become filled with more emotion like as the English dub went on, his voice has become even raspier with time.
- You Need to Get Laid: A handful of people think so.
- He did get laid, according to the Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past From The Future. But it was 5000 years ago, and wasn't any good.
Supporting Characters
Mokuba Kaiba
Seto's little brother. Tends to get kidnapped a lot. Often told to shut up.
Like Seto, his true father is a Dragon Ball character. Unlike Seto, he's not a robot, and is actually the son of Nappa. Ghost Nappa, to be precise. Probably, but likely not.
- Beware the Nice Ones: Mokuba's the villain for Season 0.
- Butt Monkey: He's to insults and kidnapping as Bakura is to injuries and neglect.
- Crossdresser: Switched outfits with Princess Adina because he always wanted to look pretty.
- Dude in Distress/Damsel Scrappy: In-universe with the latter one, at least.
- Kid Appeal Character
- The Load: It varies.
- Lonely Rich Kid: Seto won't let him have friends as they tend to get kidnapped.
- Napoleon Delusion: Believed himself to be a Pokémon in Episode 28.
- Phrase Catcher: "Shut up, Mokuba."
- "No, YOU shut up! ...Oh my God, I'm so sorry."
Duke Devlin
Resident ladies' man. Duke was initially unaware of the fact that he has his own theme music, which plays constantly as he speaks. It's implied he could go both ways.
- Anything That Moves: Although he prefers the ladies, he's not above being anally-probed by aliens.
- Bishonen: He's very pretty.
- Butt Monkey: A lesser example; his Dungeon Dice Monsters game is frequently addressed as being "exactly like Duel Monsters".
- Defeat Means Friendship
- Dude, She's Like, in a Coma: "Want to know the best thing about unconscious chicks? They can't say no." [everyone looks at him] "What? Oh, yeah, like I'm the only one thinking it!"
- Even the Guys Want Him
- Gorgeous Green Eyes
- Leitmotif: The number of times his theme song (Sexyback by Justin Timberlake) doesn't play while he speaks is only in the single digits.
- Only Sane Man: He has his moments.
- Surfer Dude: Dabbles in it a little.
- Third Person Person: Does this from time to time.
Solomon "Grandpa" Muto
Yugi's grandfather. A simple shopkeeper and stereotypical, senile grandpa with a death wish and some incredibly quirky... habits. Best not to pry into it: you will come back mentally scarred.
- Basement Dweller: According to Yugi.
- Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick: Interspersed throughout his rant at the end of the movie.
"You kids these days and your Millennium Items, and your card games, and your loud music and your hula hoops and your hopscotch and your dungarees and your lollipops and your Sony Playstations and your voice-activated light switches and your leather pants and your artificial insemination-- (cut off by Yugi, then continues after the credits roll) --your Blu-Ray Discs and your pierced scrotums..."
"Where am I? What day is it? I like pudding!"
"I'm checking the obituaries to see if I've died yet!"
- He gets his wish in Bonds Beyond Time Abridged.
- Dirty Old Man
- Everyone Calls Him Grandpa: Or Gramps. In fact, Yugi didn't even know he had a name until Rebecca brought it up.
- Grumpy Old Man
- Perverse Sexual Lust: In-Universe: He has a not-so-secret love affair with his Black Luster Soldier poster.
- When I Was Your Age
"You know, in my day, we didn't have Duel-Domes. We had to play our card games out on the street, and our cards weren't even real cards. They were just rocks we picked up off the ground, and then we threw them at each other. Come to think of it, it wasn't really card games at all. We just liked to throw rocks at each other. Mostly at me. That's probably why I have so much self-loathing. Anyway, we should probably go over there."
Mai Valentine and Her Breasts
- Big Breasts, Big Deal: Of the type 4 variety.
- Catch Phrase: Often refers to herself as "My breasts".
- Cross-Dressing Voices
- Faux Action Girl/Informed Ability: Despite some rather valiant efforts, she's lost every single duel she's participated in on-screen (except the one with Jean-Claude Magnum, which was Filler) and has had to be physically saved from danger by Joey-freakin-Wheeler on more than one occasion.
- Considering that she made the finals in both seasons she must have some skill... but her victories appear to be offscreen deals.
- Gag Boobs: Everyone thinks her breasts are fake.
- I Have Boobs - You Must Obey!
- Ironic Hell: After losing to him, Melvin sends her to a dimension where everyone's breasts are bigger than hers (especially Tristan's).
- Ms. Fanservice: Her whole shtick.
- Of Corsets Sexy
- Punny Name
- Really Gets Around: Probably not true, but everyone else thinks so.
Ishizu Ishtar
- Because Destiny Says So
- Breaking the Fourth Wall: Her necklace's power... which would be impressive if all the major characters couldn't do the same thing.
- Calling The Big Sister Out: Yugi flat out says she and her whole family is responsible for Marik's Start of Darkness and that they're all batshit crazy.
- Catch Phrase: "Because shut up." and "You know the one."
- Cross-Dressing Voices
Serenity Wheeler
- All Girls Like Ponies: She opens a door promising ponies, only to find a fire-breathing hellhound. She shuts the door, but opens it thirty seconds later after being promised a pony again. Her theme music also features this.
- Cross-Dressing Voices
- Ill Girl: Until her eyesight comes back.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Heroine!: She was responsible for the death of Noah by running him down, leading to the Virtual World/Cancelled Series arc.
- Only Sane Girl
- Satellite Character: Lampshaded during the season three premiere:
"What purpose does my character even serve at this point?"
- Vocal Dissonance: Played for Laughs. While Téa sounds like a high-pitched male and Mai sounds like a drag queen, Serenity has the honor of sounding like a Muppet.
- It apparently runs in the family: her mother sounds like Doctor Girlfriend.
- Younger Than They Look: According to Yugi, she looks like she's 16.
Major Villains
Maximillion Pegasus
CEO and founder of Industrial Illusions and creator of the children's card game Duel Monsters. When his wife-to-be inexplicably exploded at the altar, he went to Egypt and received the Millennium Eye from Shadi. He hides his sorrows and true intentions behind a gay facade. And we mean that literally. He used the first tournament to gather souls to bring back Cecelia, but lost to Yugi. After releasing the people he turned into trading cards he was killed by Yami Bakura...temporarily. Surgery has made broad advances, and Pegasus is back and more fabulous than ever before.
- Affably Evil
- Anti-Villain
- Big Bad: Season 1.
- Camp Straight
- Armored Closet Straight: When several of the characters find out he's straight, he tries to kill them to keep it a secret.
- Catch Phrase: Mentions many things as being "fabulous" (or unfabulous)
- Dead Little Sister: His wife/fiancee, Cecelia.
- Disney Death: In Bonds Beyond Time Abridged
- Evil Is Stylish: As Yami points out in episode 18:
Pegasus: Excellent. Soon, my evil plan to steal an object from a small child will be complete!.
Yami: You mean you arranged this whole tournament just to steal my Millennium Puzzle?
Pegasus: Exactly.
Yami: Did you even consider just asking me for it? I mean, do you have any idea how much time and money you've wasted with this whole facade? PEOPLE HAVE DIED BECAUSE YOU WANTED A NECKLACE! I KILLED A GAY CLOWN, FOR RA'S SAKE!
Pegasus: Look, are you going to play a children's card game with me or not?
Yami: I suppose I might as well.
- Everyone Can See It: In Marik's Evil Council 5, after hearing Marik and Bakura arguing upon a new and ridiculous plan, Pegasus said that they are so gay for each other. Marik and Bakura were not amused.
- Eye Scream: Played for Laughs.
"That's the wrong eyeball, you fool!"
- Harmless Villain: And how!
- Lolicon: The implication that Pegasus may be attracted to children is repeatedly Played for Laughs
"Well, hello little girl, would you like to see my Funny Bunny?"
- Necromantic: Like in the original his goal is to bring his dead wife back to life.
- This gets taken to its logical extreme in Evil Council 4. With the help of Rebecca's satanic teddy bear, Cecelia is brought back to life...as a zombie.
- Put on a Bus: For the main series as he doesn't appear again until season 4; he's made appearances in specials though.
- Sissy Villain: Hoo boy. And you thought the original was eccentric enough.
Wohoohoohoo. If I weren't so very camp I'd probably make a credible villain.
- Unexplained Recovery: About a few minutes after his death, it is hilariously retconned when all 3 protagonists go back in time even further.
- Word of Gay: Inverted. Bakura's gaydar was pointing to Croquet.
Yami Bakura, aka Florence
The spirit within the Millennium Ring. Yami Bakura, whose name is actually Florence, is the definition of evil: sadistic, sarcastic, and British beyond belief. It is because of this, however, that he has a legion of fangirls at his beck and call. His ultimate goal is to take the Pharaoh's screentime. After attempting to do so in Duelist Kingdom and failing miserably, he took Pegasus' Millennium Eye and (seemingly) killed him. He then lay dormant until Marik's arrival, where he struck a deal to assist him in his cause, since they shared similar agendas.
After Melvin assumed direct control of Marik's body, he outed him as a spy for 4Kids and challenged him. He lost and died, but it is heavily implied that his fangirls have more power than expected...
- Anti-Hero: Type V
- Ascended Fanon: His name, Florence, was a joke used in Season 1 where he said his parents wanted to call him that. Eventually Little Kuriboh decided to run with it.
- Ax Crazy: He likes knives; they make him feel all tingly. He also likes saying the word "Die".
- Big Bad: Of Season 5... Or, rather, he will be.
"I will be a main character, even if it takes me another 200 bloody episodes!"
- Blue Oni: To Marik's Red.
- Byronic Hero: in the latter part of season 2 where he goes up against Melvin. (In the end, he's the only one with enough insight to realise what Melvin's endgame was.)
- Catch Phrase: "Oh, bugger (me)."
- The Comically Serious: Yep.
- Dangerously Genre Savvy
- Deadpan Snarker
- The Dragon: To Marik in Season 2. Even when Melvin usurps the role as the Big Bad, he still prefers working with his better half.[1]
- Dude Looks Like a Lady: Not that he's complaining.
- Embarrassing First Name: Florence, as mentioned above.
- Even Evil Has Standards: He has evil aspirations but there are some things he won't do, for example catering to 4kids and cancelling the show.
- He's also terrified of Melvin.
- Evil Brit: He's not British, he's just gay.
- Famous Last Words: For the time being. Also doubles as an Ironic Echo since it was a phrase uttered by normal Bakura last season.
- Freudian Excuse: The reason for him being evil is rather flimsy (though he was asked about it on the spot by Tristan):
"Well, I suppose my parents never loved me enough. They were always dressing me like a girl. Did you know they wanted to call me Florence? Who names a boy Florence?! Idiots, that's who!"
- GIRL: Implied in Neko Porno charity video and then confirmed later in LK's spinoff fic, Midknight At The Oasis, that he trolls people regularly and tricks them into ridiculous cybersex situations. According to Marik he's...very descriptive.
- Hijacked by Ganon: Attempts to usurp the role of Big Bad from Melvin with the help of Marik. Not only does it backfire, it results in the show's cancellation by 4Kids.
- Hypercompetent Sidekick: To Marik in the Evil Council videos. He's so much more competent that everybody likes and respects him better than Marik. Until he decided to defected and joins Dartz's evil council. And even after that, he's still liked better than Marik.
- I Have Many Names: Bakura, Spirit of the [Millennium] Ring, Yami Bakura, Florence. This was inevitably lampshaded in episode 40.
- Laser-Guided Amnesia: The Slender Man was his college roommate. For some reason, he can't remember most of it.
- Odd Friendship: With Marik. Although "friendship" may not be the best descriptive term.
- Only Sane Man: During the Evil Council videos.
- Sarcastic Devotee: Towards Marik.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: In Marik's Evil Council 5 he finally desisted and leave Marik's council in favor of Dartz's. Beside, Dartz is willing to pay him actual money and let him do at least one evil thing once a month.
- Spotlight-Stealing Squad: He and Marik join forces to get more screen time than Yugi and Yami.
- Invisible to Gaydar: To contrast Marik.
- Surrounded by Idiots
- Talk to the Fist: He shoots Zombie Boy mid-rant with an Invisible Gun.
"It's the only way to kill an overacting zombie!"
- Tsundere: In a spinoff yaoi fanfic that Little Kuriboh wrote for charity purposes, Florence is almost constantly fantasizing about Marik, but hates him too much to consider trying to take their friendship to the next level.
- Who Names Their Son Florence?: Idiots, apparently.
- Who Wants to Live Forever?: According to Marik in his Let's Play of Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines, Bakura is immortal and thinks it's rather overrated.
Marik Sebastian Ishtar III
Marik is the successor to the tomb keepers of the Pharaoh and the leader of the Rare Hunters. Like Yami Bakura, he also wants to take the Pharaoh's screentime, and so he sends his minions into the Battle City tournament to destroy Yugi a little (not kill, destroy). He possesses the Millennium Rod, which allows the user to brainwash anyone with "Steve" or any variation thereof in their name.
When he was young, Marik yearned for a life better than one spent underground, so he snuck out with Ishizu to the outside world. That one happy moment, however, didn't last. His abusive father Hank found out and assaulted his adoptive brother Odion into submission. On that day, his alternate personality Melvin surfaced, and killed his father in cold blood. When Shadi appeared, Marik made himself believe the Pharaoh was responsible. Currently he, or rather his personality, is sealed away.
- Bad Boss: Hell, he even treats his stepbrother Odion like crap.
- Big Bad: Season 2, until episode 42.
- Camp Gay: Well if he were gay, he'd be this.
- Catch Phrase: "Foolish fools!"
- Cloudcuckoolander: Oh, yes.
- Cool and Unusual Punishment: In order to become a tombkeeper, Marik had his back carved with a knife... and was forced to watch Beverly Hills Chihuahua.
- Does This Remind You of Anything?: Marik's phrases after discovering Bakura is leaving for Dartz's council and that he was meeting with him for weeks sounds more like a break up for cheating. Of course, this could have been intentional.
- Dude Looks Like a Lady: Make-up and all.
Yami: Why wouldn't I hate women? I mean, they hate me. That Marik chick is always saying how much she despises me.
Joey: Guh, Yug, I don't know how to tell you this, but...Marik's a guy.
Yami: What!? That's crazy! But look at the way she dress!
- Effeminate Misogynistic Guy: Marik loudly proclaims himself the most effeminate guy around, and generally disdains women. Of course, given the women's characterization...
- Harmless Villain: Played straight and subverted depending on whether he's carrying the Idiot Ball.
- Have I Mentioned I Am Heterosexual Today?: "I AM ONE-HUNDRED-PERCENT STRAIGHT!"
- Hilariously Abusive Childhood
- Hipster: "It's me, Marik Ishtar! And for the record, I was possessing this girl way before it was cool.
- If It's You It's Okay: In the spinoff fanfic Marik & Bakura Go To Censored Town, this is how Marik feels about Florence. Not that we hadn't guessed.
Marik: I mean, you know that I'm only gay for you! I'm very comfortable with my gayness where you're concerned. But as far as anyone else goes, totally hetero!
- In his own little Spinoff show, Marik Plays Bloodlines , Marik openly comes out of the closet, even if it's only in response to a rather terrifying Mel Gibson. See it here, forward to around 12 minutes.
Marik: I admit it! I'm gay, I'm gay! I like men, and I like men's bottoms, and I have a whole folder on my computer filled with Theif Shipping pictures!
- Imaginary Friend: Melvin, who later materialized as a Split Personality.
- Large Ham: He essentially channels the voice and acting abilities of both Skeletor and the Monarch.
- Late to the Punchline: Episode 46, after the previous episode when Melvin made a joke about Bakura wanting Marik inside him.
"OH, I get it! He was implying that you wanted me to sleep with you! That is pretty funny. After all, I'm way out of your league."
- Laughably Evil
- Misapplied Phlebotinum: For having an all powerful ancient Egyptian artifact that can control minds and warp the fabric of reality, he really doesn't do much with it.
- To be fair, the mind control only works on people named Steve. Which he cleverly works around with Joey and Téa by forcing them to legally change their names.
- "Marik, have you been using your Millenium Item as a bong again?"
- Morality Pet: A bird he named Mr. Tweetums.
- Poke the Poodle: Most of his "eeeeee-vil plans" end up as this.
"We are going to sneak into Yugi's house in a cover of darkness, and rearrange his sock drawer! His entire collection of socks shall be thrown into disarray! His world will be plunged into chaos! Sock related chaos!
- Psychopathic Manchild: Little Kuriboh says in a few interviews that Marik is essentially a combination of his inner child and himself at 14. Except evil.
- Red Oni: To Bakura's Blue
- Silence, You Fool: Goes a step further by "silencing the silence" at one point.
- Sound Effect Bleep: When uttering the F-word, a voice belching "EFF!!" is used in place of a regular beep.
- This trait has since been taken by Dartz, as Marik's character had evolved far beyond what LK had originally intended.
- Spotlight-Stealing Squad: His motive as opposed to killing the Pharaoh in the original show. Eventually works with Bakura to do so.
- Step Three: Profit: He as a vaguely evil plan that will supposedly allow him to destroy the Pharoah. However, his plan seems to be 1) Beat the pharaoh at a children's card game, 3) Destroy him. No one is quite sure what step 2 is supposed to be. Not even Marik.
- Sue Donym: Uses "Malik Blishtar" as an alias.
- Transparent Closet: Mocked frequently for it.
- Villain Protagonist: For the eponymous [Marik's] Evil Council videos.
- Villain Song: Leather Pants (with Bakura)
- Yaoi Fanboy
"This isn't like my scriptures at all! I mean what is that guy doing to that other guy? I don't know what it is but it gives me cravings..."
- You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: His M.O. throughout the first half of season 2.
Yami Marik, aka Melvin
The current antagonist (not anymore...yet), and Marik's alter-ego. When Odion was struck by Ra's divine wrath, the mental seals on Melvin weakened, and he resurfaced. Unlike Marik, Melvin has absolutely no compunctions about committing more... grotesque atrocities. But can you blame him? All he really wants is a hug. By "hug" we mean he wants to stab you with a chainsaw.
He is revealed to be a spy for 4Kids, sent to get the show cancelled. Bakura duels him to try and save the show, but is defeated. Melvin thus destroys the "fourth wall" and the show is destroyed.
- Arch Enemy: The bitchy door became his.
- Ax Crazy: Just a warning - "Could I have a hug?" translates to "I'm going to take a chainsaw to you".
- Big Bad: For the rest of Season 2 and the second half of season 3.
- Catch Phrase:
- "Mind Slave" and "Binky Boy", the former not used as often and the latter coming from his dad.
- "Could I get a hug?" and variations of such.
- Chainsaw Good: "Ahhh, now that was a good hug!"
- And then there's Evil Council 4.
- Comedic Sociopathy: Most of his antics. And the whole hugging deal.
- Deadly Hug: He makes it an art form.
- Early-Bird Cameo: Appeared in a Christmas Special, had his own musical number, and eviscerated X Men Origins Wolverine all before his proper appearance in series.
- Enemy Without
- Evil Tastes Good
Melvin: I've been OMNOMNOM-ing on his soul for ten years and I happen to like the taste!
- Eviler Than Thou: To both Marik and Florence.
- Faux Affably Evil
- For the Evulz
Yugi: Ask yourself: what would killing me accomplish?
Melvin: Other than making me laugh like a maniac, not much. But it's enough.
- Kick the Son of a Bitch: Hank Ishtar, who really deserved it.
- Knife Nut: His Millennium Rod holds a knife which he uses to give great big hugs.
- Laser Blade: Sometimes the knife is a lightsaber.
- Knight of Cerebus: A hilarious send-up of this sort of character.
- Laughing Mad
- Leitmotif: His theme music from the dub.
- The Mole: He's a 4Kids employee.
- Moral Event Horizon: Parodied in-universe. When reveals that he is the one who suspended Team Four Star, nobody seems to think it's as big a deal as he makes out. In fact, Tristan has no idea who they are.
- Morality Pet: Mr. Tweetums, until he forgets him in a Shadow Game with Mai.
- The Nicknamer
- Nightmare Fuel Station Attendant
- Omnicidal Maniac:
Hear that, Florence? That's the sound of the Fourth Wall...collapsing.
- Out of Focus: The Cancelled Series. The only screentime he's had involves him getting bored, wandering about the blimp, trying to hug Kaiba's bodyguards, and now he's trying to unlock a bitchy door. He gets past the first lock, and now must unlock the second one.
- Psycho for Hire: Once we find out he's working for someone.
- Psychopathic Manchild: Even more so than Marik.
"I am henceforth known as the ruler of all doors! Every single door shall bow before me and open at my command! I am the Master of Unlocking!"
- Show Within a Show: The "Kill your Family" show, which may or may not be all in regular Marik's head (it's implied that it isn't). It appears to be nothing but Melvin telling viewers to "Kill your family!" over and over and over again. Spawned a couple of YouTube adaptations, which stretches it out for several minutes.
- Split Personality Takeover
- Hostile Show Takeover: He even replaces Marik in Evil Council 4 as the leader. But not really.
- Villain Song: Villain.
- Voice of the Legion: Perhaps his most immediately recognizable trait.
Noah Kaiba
The biological son of Seto's and Mokuba's adoptive father Gozaburo, CEO of 4Kids, and current antagonist. In league with the Big Five to attempt to take down the show for good. Certifiable nutjob who wants revenge against Kaiba for stealing his life. Noah lived (somewhat) happily with Gozaburo until he was killed in a car accident. What remained of his mind was uploaded to the internet.
Unbeknownst to him, Joey and Serenity are indirectly responsible for his death. Serenity, as it turns out, was the one who ran him over while learning how to drive.
- Affably Evil
- Ambiguously Gay[/]Bi: Seems to like molesting Mokuba. Whereas it's intentional or not is not quite clear.
- Noah could have already evolve into a Memetic Molester sinces in chapter 55 he went from molesting Mokuba to disturbingly triyng to steal Yugi's body.
- Corrupt Corporate Executive: He's the CEO of 4Kids. Clearly takes after his old man.
- Department of Redundancy Department: "Soon you will be face to face with the truth. The truth that I am truly the true successor to the Kaiba Corporation. The true-ness of it will be truly truthful."
- The Dragon: For The Cancelled Series.
- Enfant Terrible
- Evil Laugh
- Expy: Seto: "Who are you? And why do you look like me from Season 0?"
- Tristan: "Oooooo... the forbidden season....
- Filler Villain: His original role, but subverted here seeing as Melvin was actually working for him.
- Hey, It's That Voice!: Kirbopher.
- Laughing Mad: Egregiously so. But then again, who wouldn't Go Mad From the Isolation?
- Leitmotif: His theme from the dub normally, same as Melvin. In Episode 55 he gets a new one while revealing his sob story: Mad World.
- Yandere: For Mokuba, it seems.
- You Have Failed Me...: Banishes Team 4kids to the darkest corners of the internet.
Gozaburo Kaiba
Former CEO of Kaiba Corporation. Considers anyone beneath him a "small person" and will occasionally poke fun at their misfortune. Do not enrage him if you value your ears. Was fired by Seto and Mokuba and committed suicide in disgrace.
Not really. Just like in the source material he faked his death and actually inserted himself into the Virtual World in order to manipulate KaibaCorp from behind the scenes.
- Abusive Parent: "Whip [Kaiba] 'til his name's Toby". 'Nuff said.
- Incredibly, he actually treated Noah worse.
- Angrish: "SHUTYOURMOUTHYOULITTLEINGRATE!"
- Bad Boss
- Big Bad: For The Cancelled Series
- Corrupt Corporate Executive: Especially obvious with his "Orphanland" bit. He also refuses to call people with less money than him by their names; He just calls them "small person".
- Not to mention he chooses to spend his money on "weapons of mass destruction that'll threaten the stability of world peace" over virtual holograms for children's card games.
- Evil Is Funny: A bastard, yes. But thanks to Antfish's presentation he is utterly hilarious.
- Filler Villain: A subversion seeing as he's The Man Behind the Man for Noah, who was The Man Behind the Man for Melvin.
- Hey, It's That Voice!: Antfish.
- Jerkass
- Mood Swinger: He seems to be nice, but also seems to go in fits of rage as he chewed off an employee's ear off-screen.
- Too Dumb to Live: At least when it comes to chess.
"Horses can't be knights, that's just silly."
Dartz
- Accent Adaptation: Unlike Bakura, this character's accent wasn't in the original dub.
- Big Bad: Season 4
- Berserk Button: Never insinuate you like tacos better than pizza.
- Characterization Marches On: The first two Marik's Evil Council specials portrayed him as a rather serious villain, Surrounded by Idiots. Since the third Evil Council, his personality was radically altered. Additionally, his henchmen have all become far less idiotic and are now disturbed by his poorly pronounced schemes.
- Early-Bird Cameo: He and his gang of motorcycle riding henchmen have a subplot in all of the Marik's Evil Council videos to date. We still have a ways to go before his in-series debut.
- Elmuh Fudd Syndwome/Porky Pig Pronunciation: He owften has twouble pwonun-unciati—anan-on-ci—anonymous... sayin' words in da way they s'posed t' be said, mayan.
- Expy: Coifio.
- Filler Villain
- Hey, It's That Voice!: Takahata101, from Evil Council 3 onward.
- More likely than not due to the fact that LK's original voice sounded kind of like Yami Yugi with a lighter accent.
- Incoming Ham: Big time.
- Leitmotif: Judas Priest's Hellion plays just before any scenes with him.
- The Other Darrin: Originally voiced by Little Kuriboh and had a voice not unlike Yami Yugi's; now voiced by Takahata101 with a voice like Coifio.
- Sound Effect Bleep: Has the same [EFF!] sound effect for the f-word as Marik had before; makes sense since he's based on a character from the same show the concept was used in.
- Verbal Tic: He got one, mayan.
- You Gotta Have Color-Changing Hair
- Yuu Naw Tayk Candaw, Dooshbaeg
Zorc Necrophades
A dark god and famous TV celebrity. Was at first the star of Zorc & Pals until its unfortunate cancellation. However, Zorc bounced back by performing in The Suite Life of Zorc & Cody. Loves destruction, especially of the worldly kind.
- Catch Phrase: Mentions "destroying the world" in some variation.
- The Dragon: Season 5.
- His dick too.
- Gentle Giant: Despite his fixation on destroying things, he's a pretty nice guy.
- Laugh Track: Provided in his show.
- Mike Nelson, Destroyer of Worlds: Villainous example.
- Omnicidal Maniac
- Show Within a Show: Zorc & Pals, which was canceled after he destroyed the studio audience. Now he's on The Suite Life of Zorc and Cody.
- Simpleton Voice
- So What Do We Do Now?: After destroying the world in Zorc & Pals: The Movie, he goes to Disney World... and then he's going to destroy it.
Anubis
Some random villain with generic motives no one gives a shit about.
- And Then What?: Asked by Yami; after Anubis can't think of a reason (though he says otherwise), he dubs him "The most disappointing villain since General Grievous".
- Big Bad: The Movie
- Department of Redundancy Department: "You're going to die, and then you'll be dead. Because I killed you!"
- Filler Villain
- Giant Space Flea From Nowhere: Again, Yami calls him out for this.
Yami: You certainly took your sweet time didn't you? I mean, come on, the movie's almost over. Who do you think you are? Venom?
Paradox
Basically the same as Anubis, but IN 3D!!
- Anti-Villain/Well-Intentioned Extremist: Deconstructed, he tells the heroes he's travelled back in time to avert a future where card games destroy the world, but as noted below, his Obviously Evil character traits kinda override his benevolent intentions.
- Big Bad: Of the anniversary movie.
- Catch Phrase: Pwotagonists!
- Designated Hero: Views himself as this.
Jaden: Then why are you riding around in a motorcycle, wearing an evil mask, stealing peoples cards and laughing like a maniac? Does that sound like a hero?
Paradox: When you put it that like that, no, not weally.
Jaden: Then what the hell, man!? What the actual Hell!?!?
- Elmuh Fudd Syndwome: "Humanity's ignorance has caused the planet to become wavaged and wifeless."
Yami: Wavaged and wifeless?
- Evil Laugh: He uses Mandark's.
- Expy: Of Mandark.
- Generation Xerox: He is the descendant of Dartz.
- Leitmotif: The theme from Batman: Mask of the Phantasm.
Lesser Villains
The Steves
Marik's henchmen (also known as Ghouls or Rare Hunters in the actual series). Steve (the Exodia guy), Steve Arcana, Steve the Mime, Steve Luna, and Steve Umbris. He also controlled Bandit Keith (whose middle name is Steve) and Joey and Téa (he tricked them into legally changing their names to Steve).
- Enemy Mime: Guess which Steve?
- Expy: Steve Lumis and Steve Umbra are parodies of Ignignot and Err.
- Genre Savvy: Steve Arcana knows his movies.
- Girl-On-Girl Is Hot: Steve Luna and Steve Umbris say that on the moon, being gay is completely ok so long is woman on woman and they are invited to watch.
- One Steve Limit: Defied.
- Shout-Out: Steve the Rare Hunter's voice is reminiscent of a certain martian.
Odion
- Anti-Villain
- Gentle Giant: Closest to Scary Black Man the show has; literally worships the Gummi Bears.
- Minion with an F In Evil
- Morality Chain: For Marik; without him, Melvin is able to roam free.
- Scary Egyptian Man
- The Stoic: Humorously so, given the kinds of subjects he talks about (like Gummi Bears.)
- The Unfavorite
- Vocal Dissonance: Has the same deep, gravelly voice as a baby.
- "Well Done, Son" Guy: Tries to please his father, which obviously doesn't work.
- Yes-Man: Lampshaded.
Hank Ishtar
- Abusive Parent
- Aerith and Bob: Marik, Odion, and Ishizu, the children of Hank and Veronica Ishtar.
- Asshole Victim
- Catch Phrase: "Binky boy!"
- Apparently it runs in the family.
- Funetik Aksent/What the Hell Is That Accent?: Sounds somewhat Italian-ish and... we don't know.
- "It was a long taym agoe, een a galuxy FAR, FAR HAWAII..."
- I believe it's Egyptian-Scottish-Italian-British-American-Czechoslovakian-Plutonian...uh...Ishtarian.
- Hypocritical Humor:
- "The finest human being in the world", my ass.
- During "An Ishtar Family Christmas", he claims to hate men with beards because they intimidate him...even though he is a man with a beard.
- Jerkass: Of the highest caliber.
- Refuge in Audacity: EVERYTHING he does!
- Ted Baxter
- Whip It Good: "I'm going to fix this like I fix every other problem in my life: by h-whipping everybody within a five-hundred-yard radius!"
The Big Five / Team 4Kids
A group of former Kaiba Corporation executives who were fooled by Seto into assisting him in taking over Gozaburo's position, only to get screwed by his newfound money. They begrudgingly served him until Pegasus attempted making a deal with them that would give them back their prominent positions. They failed. Afterward, they tried to trap Kaiba in cyberspace. They failed. To add insult to injury, they ended up trapped in their own little world until Noah stumbled upon them and offered them new positions at 4Kids. They eagerly accepted and now an opportunity has arisen in which they will have their Roaring Rampage of Revenge.
- Affectionate Parody: Of 4Kids! Entertainment and Team Four Star.
- Badass Creed: During their proper introduction.
- Cruel and Unusual Death: "Death by drowning!" "Death by robot!" "Death by justice!" "Death by bad publicity!" "Death by penguins!"
- The actual "Unusual" one there, arguably, could be "death by bad publicity" if you have seen the actual series.
- Until Lecter actually appears, where it is revealed his job is localization, and his deck master Jinzo can destroy internet memes.
- The actual "Unusual" one there, arguably, could be "death by bad publicity" if you have seen the actual series.
- Eagle Land: Lector, type two.
It's called localization, Mr. Kaiba. Because I do declare, there is only one country that matters when it comes to translatin' stuff. And that's Americanlanyvania...I mean America.
- Even Evil Has Standards: The other four of the Big Five admit that they don't want Tea's body due to not wanting "Crump's sloppy seconds".
- Not even Crump himself wants Tea's body again.
- Dirty Old Man: Crump.
- Everything's Better with Penguins: Subverted with Crump.
- Fate Worse Than Death: Each member is sent to the darkest, most vile parts of the internet. In some cases it's subverted, though.
- Gansley gets sent to Megaupload. Since the site was taken down by the FBI, this means that he actually dies.
- Johnson gets sent to The Dangerous Box.
- Nesbitt winds up on Chatroulette, where he has an encounter with Naruto. He claims he's a robot when he's seen using his human form.
- Lector ends up on Fanfiction.net. Let's just say he gets royally Mind Screwed.
- The only one who seems genuinely happy about his fate is Crump, because he gets sent to 4chan and spams the board with penguins. The sudden cutoff, however, implies that he gets banned.
- Five-Bad Band
- Grand Theft Me: Like the show, Nesbitt succeeds in stealing Tristan's body. Unlike the show, Crump takes over Téa's body and remains in it for a few episodes before Marik kicks him out.
- Hey, It's That Voice!: Members of Team Four Star provide their voices.
- Logic Bomb: Invoked with Nesbitt due to him being a robot. When asking "the chicken or the egg" question doesn't work, Duke resorts to showing him the design for the main character of Yu-Gi-Oh ZEXAL.
- The Other Darrin: They were initially voiced by LK, but are each by their own voice actor in The Cancelled Series. See Hey, It's That Voice!.
- Quirky Miniboss Squad: For their Badass Creed, they recite a variation of the original Team Rocket motto.
- The Rocket Powered Fist!: Nesbit loves this trope.
- Screwed by the Lawyers: Johnson is responsible for the series being taken down twice.
Dartz' Motorcycle-Riding Henchmen
- Badass Bikers
- The Big Guy: Rafael.
- Cute but Cacophonic: Alister.
- Halfhearted Henchman
- Just Following Orders: Or at least what they assume are Dartz' orders.
- Land Down Under: Valon.
- Pokémon-Speak: Rafael, who said nothing but "ZUG ZUG" in the first two Evil Council videos.
- Suddenly Voiced: After that he normally speaks in a slow and droning fashion. Dartz lampshades this.
"Mayan, I liked you bettah when you said "zoog zoog". Ya weren't such a little bitch!"
Minor Characters
Ryo Bakura
The present-time Bakura. Quite effeminate, and very, very British, he tends to get pushed in the background a lot by his evil side, who possesses the Millennium Ring.
- Camp Straight: He's not gay, he's just British. He even asked Téa if she fancied a shag once.
- The Chew Toy: "I say Yugi, can I be in this episod- [insert horrible injury here] Oh bugger!"
- Oh, double bugger.
- Demoted to Extra: Even more so than in the original series. Yami Bakura, on the other hand...
- Dude Looks Like a Lady: His father installed a gaydar in his Millennium Ring for this reason.
- I Am Very British
- Last-Name Basis: No one bothered to ask what his first name is (nor do they care when he finally tells them).
- Momma's Boy: In episode 16:
Tristan: Nobody cares about you want!
Bakura:...My mummy does...
- Shipper on Deck: Debatable, but interestingly enough, every time he has shown up in the creator's spinoff fanfics he's been subtly helping Yami Bakura and Marik together. This despite the fact that he's Out of Focus most of time because of his dark side. Why he bothers, no one really knows.
Weevil Underwood and Rex Raptor
- Closer to Earth: Rex.
- Expy: Of Beavis and Butthead, respectively.
- Heh Heh, You Said "X"
Rex: You said 'region'!
- The Ditz: Weevil
- Those Two Guys
Mako Tsunami
- Amusing Injuries: Attempted on Yugi, successfully employed against Grandpa.
- Berserk Button: Being called a Freaky Fish Guy. He eventually comes to accept it, however.
"You're not just a Freaky Fish Guy, you're the Freaky Fish Guy!"
- Blade on a Stick
- Boisterous Bruiser
- Cargo Ship: An in-universe example. He was married to the Ocean at one point. Then he dated an Aquarium before getting back together with her.
"Bandit" Keith Steve Howard
- Ascended Extra
- Catch Phrase: In America!
- Eagle Land/Canada, Eh?
- Fake American: Well, technically Canadians are North Americans.
- Wearing a Flag on Your Head
Hair Guy (Kemo)
A security guard for Pegasus and (formerly) Kaiba. Has an unspecified acquaintance (possibly his brother) known as the Mullet Guy.
- Catch Phrase: "Attention Duelists!", "My hair is..." usually follows or they're separate.
- Cool Shades
- Improbable Hairstyle: It's apparently the source of his power (to defy gravity), but definitely the source of both the jokes used for him and his popularity.
- Luke, I Am Your Father: He claims that his hair is Tristan's father.
Shadi
Yugi: I suppose it could be worse. You could be acting like Bruno.
- How Do You Say...?
- Jerkass: "I am, how you say, kind of a dick."
- Politically Incorrect Hero: "Man will become like the animal, animal will become like the dirt, and dirt will become like the Jew."
- Spirit Advisor: Subverted, as he only shows up if absolutely necessary, mostly to screw with people or tell them information that they already know.
The Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past from the Future
- The Cameo
- Flat Earth Atheist: Parodied. He tries to convince Kaiba that there is no God. Except, in the Yu-Gi-Oh world, the Egyptian Gods are real. The fact that he may or may be part of Kaiba's subconsciousness, who is himself one of these, may have something to do with it.
- Luke, I Am Your Father: Yep, the whole bit about Frieza was a lie, and he is Kaiba's actual father. Probab-*SHOT*
- Shout-Out: Based on- no, the exact same character from Aqua Teen Hunger Force... except that he's voiced by Little Kuriboh now.
- Spirit Advisor: To Kaiba. In theory.
- Talkative Loon
- Unreliable Narrator: Never trust anything he says. He'll effectively Retcon it with his next appearance. This is, however, precisely what his humour revolves around.
Jaden Yuki
The hyperactive protagonist from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, who thinks he's black and is highly disliked by other characters. Voiced by ShadyVox of Yu-Gi-Oh GX the Abridged Series.
- The Artifact: Jaden's Pretty Fly for a White Guy characterization comes from a one-off joke early in the series where Joey criticized "Yu-Gi-Oh DMX," complete with an intro set to "X Gon' Give It to Ya." Since then, the show has always been referred to as GX, but Jaden's rapping remains.
- Beware the Silly Ones: "Jaden's Rap", where he raps explicitly about how he drinks and does drugs, gets laid whenever and with whoever he wants, and cheats at school, until he eventually gets tired of Yami's questions and shoots him in the head.
- Boastful Rap: Jaden gladly tells Yami why he's so great.
- Boat Lights: Desu desu, bitches!
- Breakout Character: The positive reception for Shady's various performances as Jaden has helped make the character very popular in the Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged community.
- Butt Monkey
- The Chew Toy: His Butt Monkey status is deliberately, and exaggeratedly, played up in The Movie, to the point where he'll be called out for saying something unfunny... only to have Yami laugh at the exact same gag when Yusei says it.
- Demonic Possession: Freely and cheerfully admits that his having fused with Yubel probably counts as this.
- Hot-Blooded
- Idiot Hero: By far the most passionate of the three heroes and by far the most prone to making silly mistakes.
- I Know Mortal Kombat: Learned Parkour with Assassin's Creed.
- Informed Flaw: Played for Laughs; characters in-universe hate his rapping, but most fans find his songs catchy and love the sound of ShadyVox's voice.
- Keet: To the point that other characters can't stand him.
"And I'm Jaden Yuki, the cute, hyperactive one that people want to choke in his sleep!"
- Le Parkour: "It's a good thing I play a lot of Assassin's Creed."
- Leitmotif: In addition to playing during the aforementioned joke that spawned Jaden's character, "X Gon' Give It to Ya" pops up in the Jaden Vs. Yugi video and the 10th Anniversary Abridged Movie trailer.
- Mary Sue: Or so says Yami.
- Mythology Gag: His character is surrounded by references to Running Gags from Shady's original Yu-Gi-Oh GX the Abridged Series, such as him complaining about "breaking his coccyx" in "Yugi vs. Jaden: BATTLE!" and claiming to be "Absolutely Flawless!" in the Tenth Anniversary Abridged Movie.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: At the end of the movie, he accidentally spoils the fact that Yami dies in his series, which ends up trapping him, Yami and Yusei in Subspace.
Yami: Way to go, Jaden.
- The Other Darrin: First appears in the 2006 Christmas Special with Little Kuriboh doing a half-hearted impression of Jaden's dub voice to spout both of his actual catchphrases as part of a ploy to scare Kaiba. The next time he showed up, he was voiced by Shady.
- Pretty Fly for a White Guy
- Real Men Wear Pink: He's been taking ballet for six years.
- The Scrappy: In-universe. Yami and Yusei pretty much despise him and will call him out for even the slightest thing... even if it isn't actually bad. The Abridged fanbase seems to think otherwise, however.
- Unpopular Popular Character: Loved out-of-universe, hated in-universe
- What the Hell, Hero?: A milder example. When Yugi tries mocking him for having "imaginary friends", his only response is, "Oh, right, look who's talking."
Yubel
One of Jaden's two "imaginary friends", aka "the demon living in my head"(actually a living spirit residing in the actual card).
- Hey, It's That Voice!: Juicey Flannigan, better known as Kaiji Tang, the latest English voice of Kenshiro.
Lyman Banner
A side character from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX.
- Asian and Nerdy
- Catch Phrase: "I'm Asian!" and variations thereof.
- Flat, Satellite Character: He... only really exists to cheer Jaden on and refer to his Asian-ness.
Yusei Fudo
The protagonist of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's. He's one of the saner characters in the series, despite the fact that he dates his bike, and has an incredibly nice voice.
- Anime Hair
- Audio Erotica: Deliberately played up it seems. Lampshaded in the movie when he introduces himself to Yugi.
"I'm the serious one with a voice that makes the fangirls swoon".
- Berserk Button: Do not call his bike smelly.
- Catch Phrase:
- "I came...to [location]." It'll always get subverted by the end of the video, leading to gems like this:
Yusei: "Paradox... I came."
Paradox: "What?!"
Yusei: "To the past."
Paradox: "Oh."
Yusei: "But I also had an orgasm!"
- In the movie, "What's wrong with his hair?"
- Comedic Sociopathy: He regards the day Jack Atlas destroyed the city during a mic test as the worst day of his life on the grounds that he couldn't get laid due to everyone being too busy burning to death.
- The Comically Serious: Very much so.
- Companion Cube/Cargo Ship: His bike is his girlfriend.
- It's explained in the movie. It's because girls are smelly. It doesn't go well for Aki when she tries to retaliate.
- Jizzed in My Pants: It happens to be from riding on a motorcycle for long periods of time; go figure.
- The Modest Orgasm: "Jack? I came... again."
- The Power of Friendship: An honest-to-goodness believer, despite the fact that their antics (Jack and Jaden) and assholery (Yugi) annoy him most of the time.
- Straight Man: To Jack. And Yugi and Jaden to some extent.
- Only Sane Man
Jack Atlas
Another main character from 5Ds. Likes CARD GAMES ON MOTORCYCLES and has No Indoor Voice.
- Catch Phrase: CARD GAMES ON MOTORCYCLES!
- Later "re-branded" to "DUEL MONSTERS ON D-WHEELS!"
- Cloudcuckoolander: Thinks Paradox is Waldo of Where's Waldo when Yusei spots him in an old picture.
- Hypocritical Humor: Calls Paradox a dick for stealing Yusei's Stardust Dragon card, before admitting "I know I did it in season one, but uh... He's a dick!"
- Large Ham
- No Indoor Voice: So much so that Jack shouting into a microphone caused a giant explosion.
Yusei: The strange part is that the microphone wasn't even plugged in.
- Heterosexual Life Partners: With Yusei, although at one point they're called "Slightly homo life partners".
- Jack: What?
- Not Even Bothering with the Accent: He's supposed to be Australian. This is parodied by dubbing his voice over a clip from Crocodile Dundee.
- Simpleton Voice
Yuma Tsukumo
Protagonist of Yu-Gi-Oh ZEXAL.
- Anime Hair
- Catch Phrase: EXTREME!!!!!
- No Indoor Voice
- Totally Radical
Jack Slenderman, aka "The Slender Man"
The Slender Man. Know him. Fear him. Give him $20 or he'll ruin your movie. And possibly eat some kids along the way. Was formerly Bakura's college roommate, and has made several guest appearances in the spinoff videos, though he hasn't appeared in the actual material. Yet.
Appeared as the Third Angel in LittleKuriboh's Card Games For Charity NGE One-Shot.
- Canon Foreigner
- Catch Phrase "Hey Guys!"
- Cloudcuckoolander
- Did We Just Have Tea with Cthulhu?: He personifies this trope quite nicely.
- Humanoid Abomination: Though he seems pretty friendly.
- Large Ham
- Laser-Guided Amnesia: Which he uses offstage.
- Nightmare Fuel Station Attendant: Several steps down from his regular characterization, but he still has his moments.
- Spotlight-Stealing Squad: In-universe, when he wrestles away control of Concrete Giraffs from Marik, making himself the main character.
- Troll: Unless he has no idea what he's doing, this Slender Man MUST be this.
- Voice of the Legion: And it's hilarious.
- ↑ Not what I meant at all.
