Edarikode

Edarikode is a village Panchayat near the Municipal town of Kottakkal, in Malappuram district of Kerala state. Kottakkal and Edarikode jointly can be treated as Ayurveda Nagara.

Culture

Edarikode village is a predominantly Muslim populated area. Hindus exist in comparatively smaller numbers. There is some Christian population also here. and have many Churches near NH 66. Some people, not a large number gather in mosques for the evening prayer and continue to sit there after the prayers discussing social and cultural issues. Business and family issues are also sorted out during these evening meetings. The Hindu minority of this area keeps its rich traditions by celebrating various festivals in their temples. Hindu rituals are done here with a regular devotion like other parts of Kerala. Christian families celebrate Xmas and easter. A high school and an Institution named 'Manovikas' for mentally Challenged children are set up by Sisters.

Edarikode is famous for Kolkkali. Edarikodian style of "Kolkali" originated from here. T.P.Alikkutty Gurukkal was the master trainer. He had trained many students in PKMMHSS Edarikode.

Transportation

Edarikkode village connects to other parts of India through Kottakkal town. National highway No.66 passes through Kottakkal and the northern stretch connects to Goa and Mumbai. The southern stretch connects to Cochin and Thiruvananthapuram. State Highway No.28 starts from Nilambur and connects to Ooty, Mysore and Bangalore through Highways.12,29 and 181. National Highway No.966 connects to Palakkad and Coimbatore.

  • Railway Station: Tirur Railway Station is one of the major railway stations in the Malabar region. Almost every train stops here, connecting the Malappuram district to the rest of the country.
