Hayate the Combat Butler/Characters
About time somebody makes a character sheet for the wacky and lovable cast of Hayate the Combat Butler, don't you think?
Note that the names on this page are in Japanese naming order (i.e., Family Name First)
Ayasaki Hayate
Voiced by: Ryoko Shiraishi (JP), Muriel Hoffman (EN)
Hayate has had to work to support his parents' bad habits since the age of eight, always moving from job to job, as he gets fired when he's discovered to be underage. Hayate's dad is unemployed and his mother is a compulsive gambler, which leads inevitably to their bankruptcy. The characters in the series continually remark that Hayate looks poor and needy. He believes that everyone hates him, except children, though he doesn't think of children as being anything other than friends. He can also play the violin. Despite his terrible luck, Hayate lives up to the title of "combat butler" as he is proficient in repelling attacks from almost anything, including other butlers.
Hayate's story is a bit more complicated when one considers how as a child he met the god-like Athena, also a child, who granted him incredible powers and unlocked potential to become her butler. Their Puppy Love ended tragically, though, when Hayate entrusted the symbol of their relationship to his parents, who hawked it for petty cash. Hayate deliberately trained himself for the day he would meet Athena again.
- Accidental Pervert - Practically once every other episode in the second season... you lucky bastard!!
- Art Evolution - In the earliest chapters of the manga Hayate was more on the handsome side as opposed to his exaggerated prettiness later on (but was still a Bishonen). He also had white hair instead of blue.
- Attractive Bent Gender - Enough to turn on elderly perverts and tigers.
- Badass Adorable
- Bad Liar - As part of his overall archetype. Doesn't stop him from trying in order to make people feel better.
- Battle Butler - Of course!
- Beware the Nice Ones - Much like a Dragonball Z cast member, someone like Hayate is nice because he can afford to be nice... get him mad and...
- Big Damn Heroes - His job.
- Bishonen - With the required Bishie Sparkle, no less!
- Blatant Lies - Cat. Definitely a cat.
- Book Dumb - Yet a master of a veritable arsenal of skills that no boy his age could or should have thanks to his life of slave labor.
- His diversity of experience also means that while he may not be an Otaku, he understands every reference.
- Butt Monkey
- Call on Me - Calling his name summons him instantly. You don't even have to say it; just thinking it works too.
- Characterization Marches On - Would you believe Hayate was a Chivalrous Pervert? He was waaaay back in Chapter 2 of the manga. It was subtle and only popped up a few more times afterward until it was phased out completely.
- Charles Atlas Superpower - Became this strong through the horrific and inhumane amount of child labor that he grew up with. And the fact he betrayed Athena.
- Don't forget, Athena helped him along before the betrayal as well, unlocking much of the potential that made it possible for him to be this strong in the first place.
- The Charmer - Although he's completely oblivious to it, naturally. However, he has shown to be very capable of invoking this if he wants.
- Chaste Hero - Dammit, man, don't you realize just how many gorgeous girls worship the ground you walk on?
- He expressly states that he falls into this trope hard.
- Interestingly, if he wasn't a Chaste Hero he'd probably be a Celibate Hero, due both to his own low self-esteem and the fact that Athena convinced him you shouldn't have a girlfriend if you can't support her financially. Which he can't.
- Chew Toy - Of the entire universe, it seems.
- Chick Magnet - Hayate's overall niceness, prettiness, and badassery have won him several female (among others) admirers.
- Clueless Chick Magnet - an entire chapter was dedicated to showing how oblivious he is of how his actions make girls swoon.
- Combat Pragmatist - Once used silver utensils to effectively conduct electricity from a modified electrical cord in order to shut down a rogue robot.
- Cosmic Plaything - Hayate isn't quite sure why the universe hates him so much, but he knows it's true. His friends know it's true. His poor luck is so infamous that Wataru is able to successfully win at gambling by betting on the exact opposite of what Hayate would pick.
- Crossdresser - Maria and Isumi are convinced that this is his "hobby". It's not; it's Maria's hobby to dress Hayate in girl's clothes. Why exactly Isumi thinks this is perplexing.
- Cross-Dressing Voices - Voiced by Shiraishi Ryoko, also known for such roles as the smoking hot Ninja Nagase Kaede, Shiratori Ryuushi, another effeminate Dogged Nice Guy, and traveler |Hiiragi Kappei.
- Curtains Match the Window
- Disproportionate Retribution - Aside from being on the receiving end of this from Athena, the poor boy was under the impression he would someday receive some horrible punishment just for having yelled at Athena when she was trying to kill him.
- Drill Sergeant Nasty - When giving the "harsh" lessons on how to ride bikes.
- Dude Looks Like a Lady - Enough that Nagi just can't help but force him into dresses every once in a while.
- Even the Guys Want Him
- Face Heel Turn - Mercifully averted; Hayate would've become just like his ne'er-do-well dad had Maria not specifically recommended him to the dean of the very school he had failed the entrance exam to.
- Failure Knight - To Athena.
- Fetish Fuel Station Attendant – Poor Hayate is forcibly dressed in nekomimi, maid, and sailor outfits (to name a few) all with the obligatory Zettai Ryouiki. And on top of all that, he’s a very Attractive Bent Gender and a Moe Bishonen. Not that this stops him from being a Chick Magnet, and even if men who have been ogling him find out that Hayate is a guy, they don't really seem to care...
- Flanderization - His girlishness in the manga is a mild example. In the beginning, he could actually be considered boyish. After Chapter 8 (the first time he was crossdressed) Rule of Funny dictated that this was the proper course, and then it snowballed from there. Chapters later, cue jokes about Hayate aspiring to be a wife, comments about his girly face/features, and moments like these. This can also be seen in his character design (see Art Evolution above).
- Fragile Flower - He has his moments. Then again, can you blame him?
- Grievous Harm with a Body - When a Great White Shark attacks Nagi, Hayate beats it senseless ... with another shark, which had been trying to devour him (and which is big enough that it could've swallowed him whole).
- Heroic Self-Deprecation - One of the reasons why he hasn't hooked up with anyone yet is that he felt he didn't deserve any of them, due to Athena's teachings
- Hey, It's That Voice! - Ryuushi Shiratori of Mahoraba.
- Hilariously Abusive Childhood - Some find Hayate's parents to be complete monsters who, in the anime, eventually crossed the Moral Event Horizon in the latter parts of the first season during Hayate's dream, if not much, much earlier. Not to mention in the Manga, when it's basically revealed to be Hayate's Parents fault for making Athena so upset with him.
- This trope better applied in the beginning, but eventually his parents' antics weren't played for laughs so much anymore and/or entered Dude, Not Funny territory. Thus, this may be a Subverted Trope.
- Idiot Hair
- The Insomniac - He sleeps about 15 minutes a night, spending the rest cleaning, training, and studying, in that order.
- Kid Hero
- The Messiah - Played straight until the recent chapters.
- Nice Guy - Very much so.
- Nigh Invulnerable - Gets hit by cars, trucks, giant robots, etc and recovers. Thanks to a magic spell by Athena unlocking his potential.
- His self-imposed nightly Training from Hell is probably the larger reason.
- Oblivious to Love - This pretty much facilitates the plot. The full version of the second season's second ED even has a brief conversation between him and Nagi where the latter concludes that "You don't know what love is."
- Parental Abandonment - To put it lightly. He seems to be rather okay with it until you find out it's because he stopped having any faith or love for them long, long ago.
- Parody Sue - The perfect guy in every respect except for his own personal happiness. He just gets more and more perfect as time goes on apart from his luck.
- Perpetual Poverty
- The Pollyanna - Makes you wonder how many unhealed mental scars he must have born with to keep on smiling after what he has been through.
- Poor Communication Kills - The only person who could turn his declaration of kidnapping into a Love Confession.
- Social Services Does Not Exist - His borderline Tear Jerker school report is actually the opening quote for that page (nervous laugh).
- Star-Making Role: For Shiraishi Ryoko.
- Stepford Smiler - Recent chapters/episodes have implied that his kindness and decency are coping mechanisms he developed to cope with the harsh, nay, downright vicious realities of his life rather than his fundamental personality.
- Stupid Sexy Flanders
- Trapped by Gambling Debts - Not his own, but his lousy parents'.
- Trauma Conga Line - His entire childhood! For the most part, Hayate is a "Result A", and a subversion of "Result B" (because he is a terrible criminal). Although, he has shown hints of being a "Result E" deep down.
- Unlucky Everydude
- Unwanted Harem - "I said you lucky oblivious bastard!!"
- He's not so much clueless about it, as he doesn't think he's worthy of it. Due to what happened with Athena.
- You Gotta Have Blue Hair
- Zettai Ryouiki - When crossdressing, he's practically left vulnerable to this trope, as seen in the season 2 OP.
Sanzen'in Nagi
Voiced by: Rie Kugimiya (JP)
Nagi is the only heir to the Sanzen'in fortune. She's a tomboy and anime/manga otaku, who's a quick learner, good at finance, and creates her own manga, but she's totally incapable of cooking, afraid of dark places, and has absolutely no sense of direction. She also calls her tiger, Tama, a cat. Her only surviving family is her grandfather, whom she doesn't like, so she regards Maria as a mother or older sister figure, and warns Hayate not to touch Maria in any indecent way or she'll never forgive him. She has a crush on Hayate, and has misunderstood that Hayate loves her since they first met.
- A-Cup Angst - "Aww, come on little one!! You're too young to be worried about things like that!! Sakuya's an exception, not the norm!!"
- Actor Allusion - At this point in Rie Kugimiya's career, is it any surprise that Nagi-chan is voiced by her?
- The manga includes a Shout-Out to at least one of her other roles, in an introductory sequence which Nagi gave "an explosive ending with the magic of the Void." Then at the end of that volume, her mother appears in an omake to sing a little song: "But for some reason your magical points are at zero. Oh, working people of zero ... I want to be your familiar...."
- And the anime, after a moment of having everyone but Hayate stare at her accusingly, has her break out into "Urusai, urusai, urusai!"
- Another recent manga introductory sequence has Chiharu suggest that Nagi can use alchemy to solve a certain problem, because "You just look like it!! No!! You sound like it!!" Though Nagi at first didn't seem to know what Chiharu was talking about, she then responds, "No! Big Brother will be angry!!"
- Berserk Button - Do not ever refer to her hard work as "picture diaries", or seduce Hayate in front of her. Oh, and never remind her of her horizontally challenged figure if you value your life.
- Brilliant but Lazy - Jumped-grades to First Year High School at thirteen years old, but absolutely loathes going to school.
- Cannot Spit It Out - Her endearingly chaste love for Hayate...
- Covert Pervert- ... which contrasts with the filthy fantasies she has of the things she and Maria would like him to wear. Sakuya even calls her out fairly early on what her idea of 'playing' is.
- Cry Cute
- Doujinshi - The kid has the heart, if not the skill, to make a great manga artist... someday... Realizing that she didn't have the skill hit her pretty hard.
- "Friend or Idol?" Decision - Nagi chooses to destroy the Stone of Bonds, even though that means she will lose her inheritance, because its existence caused Hayate pain. She then tells him that he was her butler, not her money's.
- Green Eyes
- Hair of Gold
- Hikikomori - Stays inside even on vacation, proudly declaring it's her duty as a 'pro hikikomori', and is called the Hikikomori Queen by other characters. Less traditional as she's "shut-in" in big fancy houses-- but the desocialization is still the same. Partially subverted, however, as due to the training by Mikado, she can actually make a living through investments.
- Idle Rich
- I Just Want to Be Special - She was crushed when she realized she wasn't born as a gifted genius mangaka. Despite several setbacks, however, she has retained her dream of becoming a truly special and successful creator of manga.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold - Self-centered and spoiled she may be, but she does care for her butler and maid/mother figure.
- Lolicon - It's practically stated outright by both sides of the fourth wall (and Word of God) that her design is catered to such tastes. Since she's convinced Hayate is in love with her, she believes he is into this.
- Lonely Rich Kid: Her parents are dead and because she hates going outside, she doesn't have many friends either. She makes more friends as the story progresses, thanks to Hayate pushing her to go outside and be with others.
- Megaton Punch - Her initial responses to Hayate's Accidental Pervert moments.
- Never Got to Say Goodbye - Nagi really wishes that the last time she spoke to her mother was not in the form of a tantrum-fuelled argument.
- Rapunzel Hair
- Replacement Love Interest - While there's no mutual romance thus far, a lot of the Ship Tease during the latter half of the Athena arc pointed out (explicitly and implicitly) just how many similarities Nagi shared with Hayate's first love, Athena.
- Rich in Dollars, Poor In Sense - Her staggering wealth and shut-in lifestyle combine to make her very inexperienced with many aspects of everyday life. The first chapter shows her failing to operate a vending machine because she can't grasp it will only accept such small currency as coins.
- Sequential Artist - Of the incomprehensible variety.
- Shana Clone - Has the distinction of being one of the originals and Big 4 Codifiers of the trope.
- Skirt Over Slacks - One of her casual outfits is a Qipao over loose-fitting dark trousers.
- Tomboy - Her grammar is notable for not using any feminine pronouns, suffixes or idioms (aside from the gender neutral "watashi" to refer to herself) in the original Japanese version.
- Trekkie - The "Gundam fanatic" variant used in Japanese media.
- Tsundere - At least, more endearing and less bitchy than most of Kugimiya Rie's other roles.
- Twin Tails
- Yaoi Fangirl: To improve the story of the shopping festival's stage show, she suggests having the two male leads fall in love with each other. When one of the actors asks whether this would be alright since they're both men, Nagi exclaims: "It doesn't matter! In fact, that makes it even better!"
- Zettai Ryouiki - Grade S!!!
Katsura Hinagiku
Voiced by: Shizuka Ito (JP)
Hinagiku is the current student council president, and kendo club president, at Hakuō Academy, the school that Nagi, Isumi, and eventually Hayate attend. She is fifteen (later sixteen) and is an expert with swords, specifically kendo. She first meets Hayate when he gets lost on the huge Hakuō campus and invites him to the top of the clocktower, where only student council elites are allowed. She allows Hayate to call her by her first name, and also seems to be infatuated by him and his attractive personality. Hinagiku is sometimes referred to as being rather masculine for a girl by other characters in the series. Miki suggests this is because Hinagiku is seen as being "cooler" than the boys, and the fact that she was rather domineering at a younger age. Her athleticism, competitiveness, and leadership position all also probably contribute to this view. Despite having such strong traits, Hinagiku is actually terrified of heights.
Her backstory is nearly identical to Hayate's: She and her older sister were abandoned by their parents, Yukiji then managed to get them adopted by a former teacher of hers.
It should also be noted that she's popular enough as a character that the second season's ED is dedicated to her, with a Image Song being sung to multiple scenes of her in various situations - looking perplexed at what's going on around her.
- A-Cup Angst - and even more self conscious about it than Nagi-chan is.
- Which only makes it worse that she's plenty smart enough to realize there's ample reason for such and that she shouldn't worry about it.
- Also, that her chest is still small, but clearly larger when it's not significant, as a continual thing.
- The Ace
- Badass Adorable
- Big Damn Heroes - When it isn't Hayate who saves someone, it's usually her or Isumi.
- Breakout Character - In the Popularity Polls for the manga, Hinagiku came in the first place by a landside in every single contest.
- Cannot Spit It Out - This trope must be contagious or something in this universe... in her case, it's because she believes that confessing to Hayate before he confesses to her would mean 'losing' to him.
- Characterization Marches On - In her first few appearances, she was conceived simply as an older version of Nagi. She slowly morphed into a female version of Hayate, complete with a similar tragic backstory and Parody Sue qualities. Other than the fact that she and her sister were abandoned (and subsequently adopted) years before Hayate, the main difference is that where Hayate remains The Messiah and The Pollyanna, she is a Sugar and Ice Personality and Tsundere.
- Her backstory was hinted at in her first scene. Athena is the older version of Nagi.
- Covert Pervert - When spying on Hayate and Maria's Not a Date with Ayumu, she imagines a rather ... vivid scenario of Hayate and Maria doing This and That.
- Even the Girls Want Her - She has a harem. Yes, the harem is mostly female.
- Although that's unnamed females for the most part, the two most significant members of the harem are males. One seems to be continually dismissed, and the other isn't even aware he's part of it.
- The named girls both have backed off, knowing that Hinagiku isn't lesbian and honoring that with friendship, one of them does still try to convert her at times though.
- Expy/ShoutOut: She has the power to revolutionize the world!
- Eyes of Gold
- Heroic Self-Deprecation - Despite everything she can do, she seems to lack self confidence.
- Happily Adopted - Her sister convinced her former teacher to adopt both of them, but she still loves her original parents, proven by her notable hair barrette being a gift from them and she only takes it off when she sleeps.
- Not sure where the statement of the original parents being monsters equivalent to Hayate's parents comes from, every indication says that they were very loving, they just happened to have accumulated a large debt, but still nothing compared to Hayate's.
- Made of Iron - Chiharu called her a gundam when describing her to Luca.
- Modesty Shorts: signature style wearing her bike shorts under her skirt.
- I Was Just Passing Through - It's not like she's trying to be Big Damn Heroes.
- Ms. Fanservice - Minor compared to Maria, but so far she's been the subject of several semi-nude Imagine Spots from Hayate, as well as a semi-pantyshot scene.
- Parody Sue - Her excellence in various skills are a bit too deliberate... in light of her agoraphobia and her newfound crush on Hayate.
- Promotion to Parent - Even though Yukiji, her drunken lush of a twenty-EIGHT year old big sister is her nominal guardian, it's mostly the other way round.
- Relationship Voice Actor - Her seiyuu is Itou Shizuka and if she's here, then Nabatame Hitomi's here as well, playing the 28 year old sister.
- Rose-Haired Girl
- Skirt Over Slacks
- Student Council President - Is there anything this girl can't do?
- Sugar and Ice Personality - She tries to be one.
- Tall Pink-Haired And Bishoujo - See Sugar and Ice Personality. She manages to pull it off occasionally.
- Tomboy - Although she's trying to shed the image, her friends continually press it on her.
- Tsundere - Type B, with more emphasis on the dere.
- What Could Have Been - She and her sister were the prototype main characters in the first concept the mangaka came up with.
- Why Do I Have To Ride A Plane?!
- Wooden Katanas Are Even Better
Maria
Voiced by: Rie Tanaka (JP), Candice Moore (EN)
Maria is Nagi's maid and surrogate older sister/mother, both appearing and acting in a manner more mature than people typical of her age. Because of this, even people near to her speak of her as if she is older than she really is, a pet peeve for her. A phrase she commonly responds with is "I'm still a fresh seventeen year old". She is the character with the most common sense in the series, and is the only one who understands the problem between Hayate and Nagi. She appears to be the one in charge of everything in Nagi's manor, since everyone from the head butler to the SP either obeys or fears her (or both in some cases). She's good at general housework and likes games of all kinds, though she's scared of "the dark life-form that exists in the kitchen and other places". She also proved capable of self-defense techniques in times of need.
- Berserk Button - "Are you implying that I'm NOT 17 years old..."
- Cool Big Sis - To Nagi-chan and Hayate.
- Covert Pervert - Maria, just what have you been showing to Nagi-chan to give her a mind as foul as yours? (Sweatdrop)
- Curtains Match the Window
- Cute and Psycho tendencies; heck, even the narrator behind the fourth wall is scared of her!!
- Meido
- Ms. Fanservice – Especially in the recent chapters of the manga. Chapter 309 even starts with two full pages of nothing but Maria bathing, for seemingly no reason other than because Hata-sensei had extra pages to fill. This is promptly lampshaded when the chapter begins proper.
- Parody Sue - Maria seems have some traits of this. She was Student Council President at 10, pretty enough to attract many males in the series, and is also skilled at domestic tasks. However, this is balanced out by her being inept at normal things (such as public transportation and public baths) since she's only known the comforts of the Sanzen'in wealth, and Hayate has frequently commented that she lacks common sense in these areas. She is also capable of being really petty once in awhile. Both her "perfect" qualities and limitations have also been played for comedy.
- Promotion to Parent - Practically a big sister and mother to Nagi-chan.
- Taking more of the 'mother' role more recently.
- Sprouting Ears - When her boredom is relieved.
- Teen Genius - Occasionally flashbacks are shown to her high school days. She was Student Council President at age 10.
- ... at which point she was a Child Prodigy. She's a Teen Genius now, though. And don't you forget it.
- Tsundere - Has shown hints at being a Type B recently.
Hayate: You don't have to be so mean...
Maria: (in a huff) Tsun!!
- Unflappable Guardian - Even when facing against creatures that looked like outright monsters!
- Yamato Nadeshiko - Or at least she tries to be, if it were not for her...
- Younger Than They Look - Just don't mention it to her face.
- To be fair to her, it's not so much 'younger than she looks' (she's quite pretty) as 'younger than she acts'.
Nishizawa Ayumu
Voiced by: Mikako Takahashi
Nishizawa Ayumu is a girl from Hayate's school before he became a butler. She always had feelings for Hayate and is happy when he pays his old school a visit. She violently lashes out at anyone who badmouths her and Hayate, including a teacher who called Hayate a dropout because his parents had refunded all his school fees the day Hayate was sold. She confesses her feelings to Hayate, but Hayate rejects them after getting a vision of Nagi. Undeterred, she tries to talk to Hayate when she sees him a week later, but she runs into Nagi. She is shocked that, in terms of metaphoric strength, Nagi is a dragon while she is a hamster. Nishizawa retreats, vowing next time to bring a stronger hamster. She later challenges Nagi to karaoke, only to lose. In the anime, it is a running gag that she appears in every episode, usually for less than thirty seconds doing something entirely unrelated to the episode's plot, though always related to food. However, she is the only girl who has successfully confessed her love towards Hayate, which often places her in situations where she is alone with him. Most of the time she is shown eating something.
- Adorkable
- Big Eater
- Only in the first season of the anime though.
- Bi the Way - Refreshingly honest, frank and good-natured about being in love with both her best friend (Hinagiku) and the love of her life, whom Hina also loves.
- YMMV. Other than one instance where she joked about how she got a little turned on when drying Hinagiku, there hasn't been much to imply that she's IN LOVE with her. Then again, since it's Hinagiku, it wouldn't be too surprising.
- Girl Next Door
- Green Eyes
- Marry Them All - Rather than going on a "Nice Boat" jealous bloodbath upon finding out that Hinagiku also loves Hayate, she loves them both enough to be willing to share him with Hina.
- Megaton Punch - With mushroom cloud for added effect.
- Nice Girl
- Once an Episode - She always shows up in every episode of the anime without fail, even when the plot has nothing to do with her (in season 1, anyway).
- Rescue Romance - She first met Hayate about eight months before the manga begins, when her bicycle brakes failed and he saved her from going over a cliff.
- Twin Tails
Saginomiya Isumi
Voiced by: Miyu Matsuki (JP)
Isumi is a black-haired (purple in the anime) girl who is always wearing a kimono. Another one of Nagi's close friends, she and Nagi met at a party a long time ago. When all the other children, Sakuya included, laughed at Nagi's first attempt at writing her own manga, Isumi took interest in it and asked Nagi how it ends; Nagi then asked Isumi (in a childish sense) to marry her. Like Nagi, Isumi is very rich. Unlike Nagi, Isumi is soft-spoken, kind, and can cook well. While she does not have an awful sense of direction, she constantly gets lost due to the fact that she is apt to forget her destination, though she is able to disappear from people's eyes instantaneously. She has feelings for Hayate and does not wish to see him sad.
- A Wizard Did It - Either she or Athena are usually the explanation if one is given.
- Badass Adorable - With the emphasis on adorable.
- Berserk Button - How Athena found out Isumi has a lot of pride in her abilities. You better not question them unless you´re a Physical God!
- Beware the Nice Ones - If she is really pissed off, she can summon THIS.
- Big Damn Heroes - When it isn't Hayate who saves someone, it's usually her or Hinagiku.
- Cloudcuckoolander - So out there she can actually understand Nagi-chan's comics.
- Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass
- Demon Slaying
- Hime Cut - One of the few girls in the cast to look classically Japanese.
- I'm Taking Her Home with Me - The reaction she usually provokes in the fans.
- I Was Just Passing Through - Invokes this trope when getting serious.
- Nice Girl
- No Sense of Direction - None whatsoever, the poor little thing.
- Word of God is that her sense of direction isn't the problem. She just constantly gets distracted by stray spirits.
- It's both, actually. She really is sidetracked by spirits on a regular basis, but she also has no ability to arrive at any place she's trying to reach. And based on what Isumi told Sakuya...
Sakuya: Is da reason yer always lost because ya get involved with strange youkai like dis all the time?
Isumi: That's right, things like this seem to happen maybe two or three times a year.
Sakuya: Dat's not it, then.
- Onmyodo
- The Quiet One
- Shrinking Violet
- Strong Family Resemblance - To her equally cute and huggable mommy.
- Yamato Nadeshiko - She would make a lovely wife.
- Wataru thinks so.
Aizawa Sakuya
Voiced by: Kana Ueda (JP)
Aizawa Sakuya is a cousin of Nagi from Kansai. Like Nagi, Sakuya is very rich, with a similar personality - loud, arrogant, abusive of servants, and unwilling to accept defeat in anything. Nagi is one of the only people who can stand up to her, once again showing their similar personalities. Sakuya is the eldest daughter in her family with three sisters and one brother. Her illegitimate half brother Gilbert is one of the people who is constantly harassing Nagi for her fortune. Sakuya is obsessed with stand-up comedy, especially Manzai style. Sakuya initially encourages Hayate to become a comedian because she believes Hayate's life up to now is nothing more than a comedy, but later grows to admire him as the big brother she always wanted.
- Boke and Tsukkomi Routine - How she sees most every interaction in life.
- Cool Big Sis - She really does love and look out for her younger friends like one.
- Dysfunction Junction - Completely averted. In spite of being the most insane of the principal cast, Sakuya ironically hails from the happiest, warmest, most-loving and functional family among them. This is a source of jealousy and discomfort for Nagi whenever she visits her.
- Especially considering that Nagi has no reaction what-so-ever when visiting other happy families, this is probably not Nagi's problem with Sakuya.
- This is played with in a manga chapter where she tells Hayate she ran away from home because her father started saying "scary things." Hayate, being familiar with Abusive Parents, gets quite anxious and promises to help her. But it turns out what her dad said that was so scary is that she should see a dentist about her toothache.
- Fetish Fuel Station Attendant - 14 and put in the most amount of sexy costumes out of the entire cast, Hayate included.
- The Gadfly
- Genki Girl
- Green Eyes
- The Idiot From Osaka
- Jerkass/JerkWithAHeartOfGold - Depending on her (very) mercurical mood.
- Matchmaker Crush - she has done many things to push help Wataru confess to Isumi, even giving up her spot in Hakuō to him. However, a lot of the Ship Tease in the later chapters strongly indicate that she has a crush on Wataru herself.
- Ms. Fanservice
- Onee-Sama - plays this role for Nagi. Given that Sakuya is actually Nagi's cousin, it's almost played clean.
- Paper Fan of Doom
Tachibana Wataru
Voiced by: Marina Inoue (JP)
Wataru is in love with Isumi, although he's contracted for an arranged marriage with Nagi. Not as rich as the others, he runs a video store with the help of his maid Saki. At times they struggle to make ends meet and seem to have issues with late returns.
- Adorably Precocious Child - Acts hard-working, and a Mouthy Kid.
- Cannot Spit It Out - Isumi-chan or Saki-chan!!
- Or even Sakuya
- Chick Magnet - He has, mostly unwittingly, gathered the attention of several girls (Saki, "nun" Sonia, Aika, and possibly Sakuya), all of whom are older than he is.
- Covert Pervert - once sniffed Isumi's discarded stole, seems to know a lot about the fetishized Meido archetype, and once asked Saki to "do a little twirl".
- And kissing Sonia in advance of her going to save Saki.
- Saki, thanks to drunkeness, also reveals that she knows about some ecchi books Wataru secretly owns and that he has a folder full of "indecent images" hidden among the system files in his PC.
- Hypocritical Humor - When Ayumu and Hinagiku found a stray kitten, Hayate borrowed money from Wataru to buy it milk. Wataru gave him the cash, but said, "I think it's a waste to spend money on saving a stray cat." But then he criticized Hayate's choice of milk, saying:
He hasn't been weaned yet, so take this one with lactoferrin instead.... And you'll need this little baby bottle to make it easier for him to drink it, right? And just in case, you should buy some kitty litter and this toy, here....
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold
- Love Epiphany:Chapter 318 has Isumi help Wataru realize that he likes Saki the most. He later says that he will stop going to Hakuo (he only went there for Isumi) to focus on the family business and asks Saki to promise to stay by his side.
- YMMV: That seemed to be more heading in the direction of persuing Sakuya, with Saki being the mother-figure he missed out on.
- Oblivious to Love - not exactly a Chaste Hero since he does like Isumi and has been revealed to have a slight Meido Fetish. However, he seems mostly unaware of the feelings of the girls interested in him, at least the ones who haven't outright stated their interest.
- At least for the ones significantly older than him, it seems he knows about them, but tries to keep himself from being thought of as someone who Likes Older Women.
- Unlucky Childhood Friend - Isumi remains completely unaware of his crush on her. After he accidentally blurted out how he felt when she was right behind him, he quickly took it back so now she thinks the confession was a joke.
Kijima Saki
Voiced by: Saki Nakajima (JP)
Saki is Wataru's maid. She is significantly older than Wataru and lives with him in his video-rental store. Her biggest fear is that Wataru will start watching porn when he reaches puberty, which he denies. She reacts strongly whenever Hayate touches her anywhere, such as tapping her on the shoulder or carrying her away from danger, worrying about whether or not their physical contact will affect her chances of getting a husband later in life. She is basically afraid of men. Saki came in contact with the Tachibana family when Wataru's grandfather, Tachibana Enkyou, saved her and her grandmother, the legendary maid Kijima Rei, while they were traveling around the world searching for her missing parents (turned out her parents were fine; her grandmother had become forgetful in her old age and forgot where they were living).
- Adult Child
- The Danza - duh
- Dojikko
- Meganekko
- Meido
- Nice Girl
- Promotion to Parent - and a big sister to Wataru. Or perhaps....
- Shotacon tendencies towards Wataru, seven years her junior.
- Older Than They Look - Far too cute to be 20. Heck, she looks younger than Maria!!
- Maria's Right Behind Me isn't she? Ah... Feck.
- Yandere - For once when she was watching Sonia flirting with Wataru, she said she suddenly felt an urge to "commit mass murder on a grand scale using fire", whatever she meant.
Katsura Yukiji
Voiced by: Hitomi Nabatame (JP)
Yukiji is the twenty-eight year old sister of Hinagiku. She is a teacher at Hakuō Academy and doubles as a twenty-four-hour gate guard. She has a group of underachieving students who hang out with her a lot. She lives on the Hakuō campus. Loves alcohol.
- Adult Child
- Bottle Fairy
- Christmas Cake - ... and rapidly approaching that sell-by date.
- Cool Big Sis - Though failing miserably most of the time.
- If the flashbacks we see of her can be trusted, she seems to have been this as a teenager.
- And may still retain the traits as shown during the Athens arc.
- If the flashbacks we see of her can be trusted, she seems to have been this as a teenager.
- Expy: Adult Child teacher who really shouldn't be teaching, is on a rather informal relationship with many of her female students and likes drinking just a bit too much? Gee, where have we seen that before...?
- Jerkass / Jerk with a Heart of Gold - To her credit, she is capable of some remorse for her irresponsible stupidity.
- Promotion to Parent - For Hinagiku, though she sure as hell is the child most of the time!!
Makimura Shiori
Voiced by: Rina Sato (JP)
Makimura Shiori is a genius scientist with the Mikado Hyper Energy (M.H.E) Electronics Corporation as the Chief of Development, Humanoid Nursing and Battlefield Weapons Department, and Advanced Technology Development Division. Her specialties are computers and mechas. Her development team created Nursing Robot Eight and other mechas seen in the series. She is in fact so talented, that she even built a mecha when she was half asleep. In volume 3 (or episode 21), robot Eight asks her to be his girlfriend and she accepts. In volume 7 (or episode 23), Shiori is sent to teach at Hakuō Academy because her superiors believe she does not have enough heart. Even though she is a genius scientist, her robot designs (especially Eight) tend to have serious flaws, which is why she is transferred to Hakuō. Another weakness Makimura has is that she is often quite forgetful, completely forgetting about building Eight and overlooking the installation of a critical control chip in one of her mechas, which led to disastrous results.
- Adult Child
- For Science!
- Hot Scientist
- Mad Scientist
- Meganekko
- Super-Powered Robot Meter Maids - Her speciality. Most scientists would think missile launchers largely unneeded for a robot nurse/babysitter, but Makimura...
Asakaze Risa, Segawa Izumi, Hanabishi Miki
Voiced by: Masumi Asano (Risa, JP), Sayuri Yahagi (Izumi, JP), Eri Nakao (Miki, JP)
Those three girls who pop up to comment on events: Risa's the one with dark hair, Izumi's the one with purple hair, and Miki's the one with blue hair. All three come from prominent families - Risa is a local shrine maiden, Izumi's father heads the highest-ranking electrical manufacturer in Japan, and Miki's grandfather was Japanese Prime Minister. They're Hayate's classmates at Hakuō, where they're proudly underachieving students, and hang out with Yukiji. They also happen to be student body officers (Izumi is class president, Miki is vice-president, and Risa is a member of the school discipline committee). They head up the Movie Study Club, where they film short comedy films featuring Hakuō's staff and students, with dubbing thoughtfully provided by the trio.
- Accidental Truth - Miki and Risa accidentally give Izumi's dad the impression that Izumi is in love with Hayate, and just to stir up trouble, they don't bother correcting his misunderstanding. But Izumi's Luminescent Blush when the two laughingly explain this to her suggests he's right after all.
- Angels Pose - They do one while explaining to Hayate they're the student body officers in chapter 70.
- Attention Deficit Ooh Shiny - Izumi, very much so.
- Book Dumb
- The Chew Toy - The main reason for Izumi's popularity? To quote from the first character poll, "I like the way everyone picks on her." Izumi is not happy about this.
- Childhood Marriage Promise - Izumi to Hayate, when they were six - although neither seems to know it was the other.
- Class Representative - Izumi. In practice, she prefers to let Hinagiku deal with the hard stuff.
- Curtains Match the Window - All of them.
- Deadpan Snarker - Miki and Risa, mainly.
- Genki Girl - Izumi. Her expression in the picture is the one she has 95% of the time, even when crying.
- Half-Identical Twins - Izumi and her twin brother Kotetsu.
- Miko - Risa, although she has no supernatural powers.
- Modesty Shorts - Izumi wears these in season one of the anime for a quick censorship gag but not in the manga on some occasions.
- My Name Is Not Durwood - The trio like to call Hayate 'Hayata-kun'. Although, oddly, Izumi also called him "Hayata-kun" when she first met him ten years ago -- she doesn't seem to remember this.
- Offhand Backhand - When they first introduced themselves to Hayate, Risa claimed to be "renowned Japanese entertainer Haruo Minami" (who was male and, by the time of this series, dead), Miki smacked her, and she gave her proper name.
- Ojou - All three are technically this, coming from wealthy and influential families.
- Overprotective Dad - Izumi's father. So very much.
- Playboy Bunny - There's a chapter in the manga where Hayate briefly reads Alice in Wonderland ... sort of ... to Nagi, and Hinagiku as Alice gets information from these three dressed as Bunnies. She commiserates:
Alice (Hinagiku): It must be rough having to cover the cheesecake angle for our anniversary story.
Bunny Girls: Hey, it's a living!!
- Skirt Over Slacks
- Sprouting Ears - Izumi popped up (probably) fox ears when Hayate, trying to conceal an involuntary change in his appearance, told her he had nothing to hide. She promptly began trying to pull away the cloak he was wearing.
- Those Three Girls - Though after awhile, Izumi proved to be much more popular than the other two and got an expanded role as a result.
- Yaoi Fangirl - Izumi, as regards Hayate and her brother.
Harukaze Chiharu
Voiced by: Ayumi Fujimura (JP)
Chiharu is one of the girls that works on the student council with Hinagiku. Underneath her cool, serious expression lies the heart of an otaku rivaling Nagi herself. Unlike most of the student at Hakuou, she's not particularly rich, so she works secretly as a maid for Sakuya
- Cool Big Sis: For Nagi
- Girls Love Stuffed Animals: Some of which burned with her house, but not many.
- Meganekko: Not the cute pleasant type, though she's fairly nice. Instead, she's the serious, studious type.
- Meido: First she was working at a Maid Cafe, and then Sakuya decided she liked her and hired her as a real maid.
- Otaku
- Repetitive Name - Harukaze Chiharu
- Scary Shiny Glasses
- Stoic Spectacles
Seishirou Klaus
Voiced by: Kenta Miyake (JP)
Klaus is the head butler of the Sanzen'in family, who is usually away on business. He was Yukariko's butler when she was alive. He once fell in love with Hayate without knowing that Hayate was forced to crossdress as a catgirl by Nagi and Maria. He is self-centered, has a low alcohol tolerance, doesn't do well with tobacco or women, and likes cars and bikes.
- Adult Child
- Demoted to Extra - And the series mocks him for it, too.
- Evil Mentor - Sometimes.
- I Was Quite a Looker: Yes, really.
- Just a Stupid Accent - Animax English dub only, where he's given a German accent.
- Kenta Miyake
- Scary Shiny Glasses - He does this by default.
Sanzenin Bodyguards
The over 2000 men strong bodyguard team who protect Nagi and the Sanzenin manor. Easy recogniceable since all of them always dress in black suit and sunglasses.
- Attention Deficit Ooh Shiny
- Dumb Muscle - Not exactly the smartest people around but heaven help you if you is an one-time-villain threating Maria. Normally their size and numbers alone however will enough to scare people.
- Goggles Do Nothing - Subverted as they all use sunglasses all the time.
Azumamiya Koutarou
Voiced by: Rina Sato (JP)
Azumamiya is the master of Kaede Nonohara and a member of the kendo club. He is considered the weakest member of the club because his strikes are random and dangerous. He has a vulgar mouth, which obligates Kaede to scold him accordingly in his duty to refine his master into a gentleman. When he is in trouble, he calls for Kaede to fight for him, and, with the exception of Hayate, always picks fights with those with the highest possibility of being weaker than he is. Out of jealousy, he challenges Hayate to a duel when he sees him being friendly with Hinagiku. He is often beaten up mercilessly by Kaede for his weaknesses. Recently, he has lost his self-esteem ever since Kaede went to study abroad in England. He is the only character introduced so far whose endurance is worse than Nagi's.
He always tries to impress Hinagiku but apparently always fails to do so.
- Butt Monkey
- Dogged Nice Guy - If he isn't picking on Hayate.
- Leeroy Jenkins
- Stalker with a Crush
- Training from Hell - Nonohara always puts him into these situations.
Nonohara Kaede
Voiced by: Katsuyuki Konishi (JP)
The combat butler of the Azumamiya family. He appears to have white hair and an almost always smiling face. His eyes are always closed and he is very polite. He encourages his master to be a gentleman and to be manly enough to fight his own battles even if he were to lose. In contrast with his gentle and polite exterior, Nonohara is very brutal, senselessly beating his master when he acts like a weakling. In combat, whenever Kotarou asks for his help, he does the opposite, either throwing him into the battle zone or beating the boy up.
- Battle Butler
- Eyes Always Shut
- Hair-Trigger Temper: at least only to his master, as he immediately toss him into Training from Hell at the slightest provocation.
- Put on a Bus: Has gone to England for a while now.
- White-Haired Pretty Boy
Hibino Fumi
Voiced by: Kana Asumi (JP)
A strange, not terribly intelligent but oddly talented girl prone to making up blatant lies. She is shocked by almost everything. She hasn't been seen much after her introductory chapters, mostly showing up in order to make her surprised face, have a line or two and then disappear again.
- Blank White Eyes - All the time
- Blatant Lies - Claimed to have seen Hinagiku's panties when she was actually wearing spats, and then went on to tell people how they were black and adult. Not the only example, either.
- Cloudcuckoolander - Decides the best way to wake a napping Nagi is to put breadcrumbs on her head. Also gives... overly detailed and somewhat gruesome answers on the quiz game for tickets to Athens.
- Genius Ditz - Can do math extremely quickly. The other characters wonder if maybe she's a Ditzy Genius instead, but are quickly corrected. Also apparently a talented artist.
- She also made a comment about needing to remove her fingerprints from a suitcase of money before turning it into the police. Even Sharna comments that it's a well thought out plan.
- Meido - When Isumi wanted a maid she promptly candidated , claiming to be "One Hell of a Maid". But while she may looked the part, she got rejected since she couldn't help Isumi with her Smart Phone, which was the official reason for Isumi to get a maid.
- Satellite Character - She has one, and when she randomly started speaking to Hayate and Nagi about Fumi they had no idea who she even was. Twice.
- Third Person Person
Alamgir Sharna
Voiced by: Saori Goto (JP)
A foreign exchange student from India and Fumi's friend. When Fumi is around Sharna will most often be as well.
- All There in the Manual - Subverted. Hata didn't really know why she had to be from India and first came up with her family name when he had to write her profile.
- Cloudcuckoolander's Minder - Created to be this for Fumi and indeed very needed.
- Deadpan Snarker - Fumi give her plenty of opportunities for this.
- Foreign Exchange Student
- Meganekko
- Satellite Character - Nearly always following Fumi around.
Nishizawa Kazuki
Voiced by: Eri Nakao (JP)
Ayumu's younger brother who fell in love with Nagi at first sight. He even got on a date with her but realized that she already had a crush on Hayate. Also a friend of Wataru and a regular customer in the later's shop.
- Satellite Character - After his introduction he appear most as a friend and costumer of Wataru and of course when Ayumu is home.
- The Short Guy with Glasses
- Stalker with a Crush - Not nearly as much as his sister but in an omake Wataru nevertheless call them for "the stalker siblings".
The Narrator
Voiced by: Norio Wakamoto (JP), Jack Murphy (EN)
Mainly the background voice that comes up to explain things throughout the show, of course.
- Deadpan Snarker: He's not above calling out the weirdness or idiocy that goes on in the world.
- Lemony Narrator
- Wakamoto Norio in one of his coolest roles to date since Cell.
- Large Ham: Even if he may be narrator, still his voice is enough to ham it up.
Hayate's Parents
Voiced by: Kenji Hamada (Shun Ayasaki) (JP), Kazusa Murai (Mrs. Ayasaki) (JP)
Hayate's parents, who appear only in flashbacks as faceless shadows with the characters "Mother" and "Father" scrawled on their faces. Hayate's dad, named Shun Ayasaki, has refused to get employed (on the grounds that he is undergoing soul-searching and deserves no less than jobs "most suited to him") and his mother has been a compulsive gambler, which led to their bankruptcy. They abandon Hayate after selling his organs to the Yakuza to ease their financial burdens (a debt of 156,804,000 yen, or approximately $1.3 million US).
- Adult Child - Both of them.
- Affably Evil - You'd be hard pressed to find a more friendly and cheerful pair of heartless, criminally neglectful bastards.
- Jerkass
- Karma Houdinis
- Fridge Brilliance, though, would make it clear that since they no longer have Hayate to bail them out of their gambling debts, their day of reckoning can't be far off. Especially if they've already spent the money the Yakuza paid them for those organs they never got.
- Obliviously Evil - They don't seem to realize that they are horrible, horrible people.
- Parental Abandonment
- Social Services Does Not Exist - Or they would both have farking gone to prison by now.
Tennousu Athena
Voiced by: Ayako Kawasumi (JP)
Athena is a daughter of the Tennos family. She has mainly appeared in the manga; she's only been shown in the anime during a brief flashback where Hayate reflects on his first girlfriend. Her parents are dead, and their absence is something of a sensitive issue for her. She's Hayate's old girlfriend, as well as his first Mistress, whom he met 10 years ago. Since he was very young at that time, he called her "A-tan" for short. Her family owns Hakuō Academy, and she is the board chairman of the school.
- A Wizard Did It - Either she or Isumi are the explanation for the weirdness, if an explanation is given.
- Boobs of Steel
- Broken Bird
- Demonic Possession - It wasn't an actual demon, but it was still pretty damn dangerous - so dangerous, it curbstomped Hayate, Isumi and Sakuya.
- Hayate fought on rather even ground with it the second battle. The first he couldn't fight because of his previous defeat by Athena's Battle Butler.
- It nearly killed him on first appearing, and it took a combined effort of Hayate and Isumi to defeat it. Hayate's brother accomplished this feat on his own without any preperation.
- Hayate fought on rather even ground with it the second battle. The first he couldn't fight because of his previous defeat by Athena's Battle Butler.
- Disproportionate Retribution - Hayate loses the ring Athena gave him. Athena tries to kill Hayate. Or does she?; Hayate says differently in a recent chapter.
- Heroic BSOD - She has one after Hayate leaves. See it here.
- Idiot Hair - Partially, as Athena herself is definitely not an idiot. Also counts as Expressive Hair.
- I Want My Beloved to Be Happy - The reason why she doesn't want to return to Japan with Hayate is because she believes that she only causes him pain. Also partly the reason why she doesn't even try to have Hayate stay with her (the other part of the reason being that she also respects Nagi's sacrifice of her fortune so Hayate could rescue her and doesn't want to take Hayate away from her).
- Although she makes it clear in the next chapter that she plans to go back to Japan, and that she'll be waiting if Nagi ever lets Hayate get away.
- When she returns to the story, she does not quite remember who he is due to unexplained causes that have also reverted her into the form she had as a little girl. The point is now possibly moot..
- Although she makes it clear in the next chapter that she plans to go back to Japan, and that she'll be waiting if Nagi ever lets Hayate get away.
- Kawasumi Ayako - Her voice actress.
- Lady of War
- Lonely Rich Kid - One who, for a long time, couldn't leave the palace she lived in. Literally.
- Not a Morning Person
- Princess Curls
- Puppy Love - Hayate's first girlfriend. At age 6.
- Red Eyes, Take Warning
- She's All Grown Up - After he made up with her and when she prompted him, Hayate confessed about this, especially her considerable...ehm...assets.
- Storm of Blades - Her standard form of attack.
- Sufficiently Advanced - Is connected to the Mineral MacGuffin several characters have.
- Teen Genius - She is a graduate AND the Board Chairman of Hakuō Academy, even when she only seems to be Hayate's Age.
- Third Option Love Interest: Hayate admits that he still likes her and the plot seems to build towards a conclusion, but she's actually the version that doesn't 'win.' Instead, she realizes how important Nagi is to Hayate and decides to return to Japan. If Nagi lets him get away, though...
Sanzen'in Mikado
Voiced by: Tomomichi Nishimura
Sanzen'in Mikado is Nagi's grandfather and the head of the Sanzen'in family. He lives in a mansion much bigger than Nagi's mansion with many servants (who are all similar-looking). It is unknown where the Sanzen'in fortune comes from but Nagi suugests he's an oil tycoon. He has the ability to judge a person's character just by looking at them. Even though Mikado is Nagi's only direct relative, they don't get along. Nagi dreads going to the main house to visit him. As a result, Mikado is not seen often after his first appearance. However, he does seem to be concerned about her, since he tries to stop the assassination/kidnapping attempts by announcing that he will pass the Sanzen'in inheritance to the person who makes Nagi cry and beg for forgiveness. The conditions are later changed, with the help of Maria, who he's fond of, so that Hayate must be defeated instead.
- Adult Child - Sometimes.
- Bad Santa - Mikado strongly implies to Hayate that he was the one dressed as Santa that one night in Hayate's childhood.
- Dirty Old Man
- Evil Mentor
- Name's the Same: Shares the name of a certain perverted and vain ice skater.
Ayasaki Ikusa
Hayate's older brother, who's appeared only in flashbacks in the manga so far. Ten years ago, he was something of a wandering hero, who went looking for people to help. If he was around when his parents landed Hayate in trouble, he'd intervene to help his little brother. He helped free young Athena from the Royal Garden, but she had no idea who he was. Shortly afterwards, he disappeared under circumstances as yet unknown.
- Blinding Bangs - This lasts for a while until Athena's flashback of their meeting.
- Call on Me - Even if you don't know his name, even if you're forgotten by the World and cursed by God, he will come for you.
- The Dulcinea Effect
- The Messiah - something the siblings hold in common, it seems.
- X Marks the Hero - He has the epitome of heroic scars, right in the center of his forehead.
Suirenji Luca
Voiced by: Haruka Yamazaki
An accomplished singer and amatuer mangaka who Hayate helped recover from an injury. Due to a complicated series of events, she initially believed Hayate was a girl. She is also close friends with Chiharu, and Nagi and idolized her before becoming rivals with her in their quest to become great mangakas. Hinagiku seems to be a bit of a fan of hers as well, and even agreed to help her improve her manga. She appears to have some trust issues, which is strangely balanced by the fact that she seems to believe almost any lie. It appears that she might have some feelings for Hayate (surprise, surprise).
In her efforts to become a great mangaka, she has allied with Hayate and Hinagiku to make up her doujin circle. Hayate mostly covers keeping her health up with her tiresome double-life while Hinagiku acts as an advisor, a very brutally honest on at that. Thanks to Hinagiku's research into what makes popular manga and the support of her and Hayate, Luca has made incredible progress and even easily defeated Nagi at ComiSun.
- Birds of a Feather: With Hayate and Hinagiku. All three of them have the same background of their parents abandoning them with massive debts and they are all rather similar individuals. Whereas Hinagiku is like a female mirror of Hayate, Luca is more like a ditzier (and less cynical) direct female counterpart of Hayate. Also she was apparently the Student Council President at her old school.
- Brutal Honesty: The reason she values Hinagiku so much as an advisor is that she wants to hear objectively what is wrong with her manga rather than sugar-coating it to ease her feelings. That said, Hayate was concerned for her health when Hinagiku did exactly that with three simple yet cutting critiques. It seems to have greatly helped her in the long run.
- Determinator: Refuses to cancel her performance (which includes a dance) while injured.
- The Ditz: To an extent. It's not quite clear how intelligent she is but she has unusual thought processes and tends to believe pretty weak lies.
- Hayate made something for her to eat; she gave a moan and said it was so good that she nearly returned to her previous life ... as a Dreamcast.
- Expy: In her short introductory scene, she is shown outside a vending machine, holding a declaration of debt for about a hundred fifty million yen. Apart from this backstory being almost identical to Hayate's (Parental Abandonment and all) she also looks quite similar to Hayate.
- Idol Singer
- Parental Abandonment: Much like Hayate and Hinagiku; a fellow working with her comments: "I thought that you had no relatives left ... when both of your parents ran away after dropping the debt on you...."
- Sequential Artist
- Sprouting Ears: Pops out cat ears and a matching tail after she overhears Hayate admitting that he's a boy.
- Student Council President: Who would have guessed?
- Sweet on Polly Oliver: Finds herself somewhat attracted to Hayate and seems to think it's a bit of a shame that 'she's' a girl. Causes some heavy embarrassment for her when she finds out the truth.
