2) Formerly known as "Super 9" (1996–1999), "Tennis Masters Series" (2000–2003) or "ATP Masters Series" (2004–2008).
Djokovic became the eighth male player in history to achieve the Career Grand Slam in singles.

From the 2010 Davis Cup final to the 2011 French Open, Djokovic had a 43–match win streak, placing him behind Guillermo Vilas (46 matches in 1977) and Ivan Lendl (44 matches from 1981–1982) on the all-time list.[1][2] He won 41 straight matches from the start of 2011 until the French Open semifinals,[2] second only to John McEnroe's record (he started 42–0 in 1984).[3]

Historic achievements

Djokovic has won 17 Grand Slam (major) titles, the third most in the Open era. He is one of eight players to achieve the Career Grand Slam in addition to being the only male player to hold all four Grand Slams on three different surfaces at once. He also ranks second with 34 ATP Masters 1000 titles (Rafael Nadal is 1st with 35) and has won 5 ATP Finals titles, including a record 4 consecutively from 2012–2015. His 5 ATP Finals titles are second-most alongside Ivan Lendl and Sampras (Federer hold the record with 6 titles).

Djokovic has won an all-time record of eight Australian Open men's singles titles, surpassing the old record of 6 Australian Open titles by Roy Emerson. Djokovic is the only male player to win 3 consecutive Australian Open titles during open era. Djokovic is one of three male players in history to win a grand slam singles title eight or more times, joining Federer (8 Wimbledon) and Nadal (12 French Open). He is 8–0 in Australian Open finals. Djokovic is the only player to defeat Nadal in straight sets in a grand slam final (Australian Open 2019). Djokovic is the only player in history to win 3 or more consecutive slams 3 times in his career. Djokovic is the fourth male player to win 5 Wimbledon titles after Borg(5), Sampras(7) and Federer (8).

Djokovic is fifth male players to be No. 1 for more than 250 weeks (282 weeks as of March 22, 2020), joining Connors (268 weeks), Lendl (270), Sampras (286), and Federer (310).

Djokovic is first tennis player to earn more than 100 million US dollars in prize money.

Djokovic is widely viewed by many sports analysts, fans, and media pundits as one of the greatest tennis players of all-time, often ranked alongside Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Rod Laver, Pete Sampras, and Björn Borg.[4][5] He has reached 26 Grand Slam finals and has played the final of each Grand Slam tournament at least 4 times. He has won multiple titles at 3 out of the 4 majors.

Djokovic's 2011 season, during which he went on a 43–match winning streak, is considered as one of the greatest seasons by a tennis player in the Open Era. He won 10 titles on three different surfaces, won 3 majors while making the semifinals of the fourth, won 5 ATP Masters 1000 events, and made the finals of 11 of the 16 events he entered. He defeated Nadal and Federer 10 times combined, going 10–1 against them while finishing the year with a 70–6 record. He was eliminated in the round-robin portion of the ATP Finals.

In 2015, he won 3 majors in one season for the second time, while reaching the final of the fourth and won a record 6 ATP Masters 1000 titles before finishing the year with his fourth consecutive ATP Finals championship. He won 11 titles while reaching the finals of 15 of the 16 events he entered to finish with an 82–6 record. His record against Nadal and new rival Murray was 10–1 combined, although he was less dominant versus Federer compared to 2011, with a 5–3 record. This season was seen as the greatest in the Open Era by many fans and analysts.[6][7][8][9]

Djokovic competed in 8 Masters finals in 2015, breaking the previous record of 6 finals. He has won multiple Masters titles in 8 different tournaments. He is the only player to win all 9 Masters tournaments. As a result, he is considered to be the greatest and most accomplished player in ATP Masters history for his versatility and success in winning the Masters tournaments on a consistent basis.[10]

Djokovic is widely viewed as one of the greatest hardcourt players of the Open Era. He has won 11 hard court major titles, a record shared with Federer. He has also won an Open Era record of 25 Masters hard court titles. In addition, Djokovic has an 88.6% Grand Slam match win percentage on hard courts, which is a record.

Djokovic's clay court achievements include 14 titles on the surface, including a French Open title and 9 Masters titles. Djokovic is the second player after Robin Söderling to defeat Nadal at the French Open, and the only player to date to do so in straight sets. He is also the only player to defeat Nadal in all 3 clay court Masters events, which he achieved in the finals of Madrid and Rome in 2011 and in Monte Carlo in 2013. The latter victory also ended Nadal's consecutive run of 8 Monte Carlo titles. Djokovic is the player with the most clay-court match wins over Nadal.

Top 10 wins

Djokovic has the second most wins over top 10 ranked players in the Open Era.[19] He has a 212–97 (68.6%) record against players who were, at the time the match was played, ranked in the top 10.[20] He also set the era's single season record with 31 wins in 2015 (breaking his 2012 record of 24 top-10 wins, which he and Nadal matched in 2013). Djokovic has also racked up 14 wins over No. 1-ranked players, beating Nadal 10 times, Federer 3 times and Murray once.

In 2011, in a seven-tournament span, Novak defeated then world No. 1 Nadal in the finals of five prestigious events; Indian Wells Masters, Miami Masters, Madrid Masters, Rome Masters, and Wimbledon.
