Roger Federer was the defending champion, but David Nalbandian defeated him 1–6, 6–3, 6–3 in the final to achieve the rare feat of defeating the top 3 players in the same tournament, joining Novak Djokovic and Boris Becker. He also became the only player to defeat the Big Three in the same tournament.
