Missouri Republican Party

The Missouri Republican Party is the affiliate of the United States Republican Party in the U.S. state of Missouri. The party Chairman is Kay Hoflander since 2019. The previous Chairman Todd Graves, brother of Missouri congressman Sam Graves served from 2017 to 2019. Graves was unanimously elected to the position on January 7, 2017.

History

Missouri has been known to be a bellwether state, meaning that it has voted for the winning presidential candidate in all but three elections since 1904. The vote of Missouri can be swayed either way and historically, no party has had a strong grasp on the state. Despite this, the Republican Party has recently become more successful on the national level for Missouri, as the state voted for the Republican presidential candidate in the 2008, 2012, and 2016 elections.

Controversies

After Missouri governor Eric Greitens was indicted by a grand jury for felony invasion of privacy charges related to an extra martial affair as well as his alleged threat to release compromising photos if the woman involved revealed the affair to anyone, the Missouri GOP's executive director claimed that the case against Greitens was a "political hit job" orchestrated by George Soros.[1]
