History

Lưu Hữu Phước (19211989), a well-known Vietnamese communist and songwriter, wrote both the lyrics and composed the music to "Liberate the South" in 1961. In 1939, Phước wrote the music of what would become the national anthem of South Vietnam, although this was before he became a communist.[1]
