Yukari Is Free/Characters

Main Characters

Torako Takino

The core group's resident Badass, Torako is the fraternal twin sister of Tomo, a natural mech pilot, and a skilled brawler. Though usually laconic and soft-spoken, she can also be very sarcastic at times, usually if she is under stress. She is extremely wealthy, after exploiting her unwanted fame from a sex tape that was accidentally broadcast across Japan and later released on DVD.

  • Ace Pilot: Of the Steamroller variety.
  • Action Girl
  • Action Girlfriend: To Tardboy.
  • Am I Just a Toy to You?: With Asagi. She's still not quite sure what the real answer is.
  • Appropriated Appellation: She got her nickname, Anemic Damsel from the East, from a porn DVD made from a sex tape accidentally recorded by a video conference system.
  • Badass: Made her way across a Zombie-Infected Tokyo, unarmed, on her bicycle. And this was before she became a Mech Pilot.
  • Bi the Way
  • Big Little Sister: Torako is actually the younger of the Takino siblings, having been born four minutes after Tomo. She is also the taller and older-looking twin.
  • Bruiser with a Soft Center
  • Combat Pragmatist
  • Crowning Moment of Awesome: Taking down Nemesis with her bare hands in Season 2.
  • Curb Stomp Battle: People threatening her friends and family often find themselves on the receiving end of one of these.
  • Deadpan Snarker
  • Happiness in Slavery: Torako is happiest when she's letting another person make the decisions for her and generally treat her like a piece of property. She herself admits that she's a little screwed up in the head.
  • Heartbroken Badass: Suffers from this twice, the first time in Season 2 when Asagi breaks up with her on a whim and the second time in Season 3 when she dumps her all over again. (She had just awoken from a coma with no memory of the last four months, and thought they were still together.)
    • It certainly didn't help when she learned that Asagi really did care about her and saw her as more than just a sexual plaything, but abandoned her in the middle of a city overrun by zombies anyway.
  • Instant Expert: One has to wonder how Torako was able to win so many fights despite having never even seen the inside of a Humongous Mecha before her first battle in one.
  • "It's Not Rape If You Enjoyed It": Torako likes not being given a say in the matter.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Upon awakening from her coma, she had no memory of the last four months
    • She has since recovered most of her memories, though they're still patchy in spots.
  • Never a Self-Made Woman: An inversion. Torako clearly inherited her piloting skills and all-around badassitude from her mother Tsuruko, while her father Tsuguhiko is a Non-Action Guy to the core.
  • Not So Stoic
  • Perpetual Frowner
  • The Red Sonja: A mild example, as no combat is involved; just having the nerve to make a move on her without stopping to make sure she wants it or not will usually suffice.
  • Smoking Is Cool
  • Tall, Dark and Bishoujo
  • Twincest: With Tomo.
  • Uke: She doesn't know how to be anything else.
  • The Unfavorite: She thinks she is, anyway.
  • Unskilled but Strong: Torako possesses a formidable natural talent for piloting mechs but no formal training or discipline whatsoever. This often puts her at a serious disadvantage when facing opponents who do have the necessary training and experience.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: A female version, longing for her mother's approval and acceptance.
  • The Woobie: Not often, but she does have her moments.

Tomo Takino

Tomo is loud, hyperactive, obnoxious, and a huge pervert, and it has often been speculated that the only reason some people even try to tolerate her is for the sake of Torako. Still she does care about her friends in her own twisted way, though she may not have the best ways of showing it.

  • A-Cup Angst: She is very self-conscious about her bust size, especially when compared to her more buxom friends.
  • Ace Pilot: Or at least she could be if she wasn't so reckless and impulsive...
  • Artistic License: Biology: See Insane Troll Logic below.
  • Bi the Way
  • Brilliant but Lazy: Unfortunately she's very, very lazy.
  • Crowning Moment of Awesome: Fighting one of GLaDOS's super soldiers to a stand-still in the Enrichment Center arc, proving that she can get over her reckless and impulsive nature and fight just as well as Torako when the situation calls for it.
  • Crowning Moment of Heartwarming: Staying at Torako's bedside almost the entire time she was in a coma, only leaving to use the toilet or when she was forcibly removed. Though it ended up only being a couple days, she swore that she'd never leave even if Torako didn't wake up for thirty years.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Tomo insists that since she and Torako are twins, that means they're essentially clones, and therefore any sexual contact between them is only masturbation, and not incest. Yeah.
  • Jerkass
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold
  • Lovable Sex Maniac: Though the "lovable" part is open to debate.
  • Noodle Incident: Tsuruko implies that Tomo once nearly burned down the house trying to get rid of a wasp nest in the tool shed.
  • Pet the Dog: Mainly towards Torako and Yomi.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Tomo seems to carry the Idiot Ball around in her pocket a lot of the time.
  • Twincest: With Torako.

Steven Kagura

Also known as Rude Titty-chan, Kagura became famous after a beachgoer's video of her saving Osaka from a shark and losing her bikini top in the process went viral and was later released on DVD. Since then she has become a children's role model, amassed considerable monetary wealth, and suffered tremendously before her death and resurrection.

  • Ace Pilot
  • Appropriated Appellation: Why would parents let their children take advice from someone called Rude Titty-chan, anyway?
  • Armoured Closet Gay: Was dragged, kicking and screaming, out of the closet in Season 2.
  • Back from the Dead
  • Big Breasts, Big Deal: A mix of Type 1 and Type 2. Tomo's fondness for grabbing them doesn't help.
  • Boisterous Bruiser
  • Boobs of Steel
  • Book Dumb
  • Break the Cutie: In the second and third seasons Kagura was raped by an evil alternate-universe version of Chiyo-chan, had her shoulder dislocated by Yukari, was stabbed by Osaka, got thrown headfirst into the side of a building twice, was kidnapped, shot, kidnapped again, was raped by Nyamo (who to add insult to injury was pregnant with her half brother at the time), dumped by the girl she loved, and finally killed rescuing her friend from an evil porn company from Hell. Her situation has improved since her resurrection however.
  • The Chew Toy: See above.
  • Cool Big Sis: To Chiyosuke.
  • Daddy's Girl
  • Despair Event Horizon: Despite everything that happened to her Kagura was somehow able to keep bouncing back with a positive attitude, until she was raped by Nyamo and dumped by Sakaki. Whatever hope she had left was then shattered after her death, and then those shattered pieces were ground into dust and scattered to the wind when she was able to visit her friends as a ghost only to learn that Sakaki still loved her after all, but that she wouldn't be able to see her again for many, many years. Fortunately, she soon got better.
  • Embarrassing First Name: Kagura's parents wanted a foreign name for their daughter, to make their special little girl unique; unfortunately they didn't think to check the name's gender. Say hello to Steven Kagura, everyone!
  • Friend to All Children
  • Gender Blender Name: See above.
  • Goofy Print Underwear: Kagura apparently owns (and actually occasionally wears) Power Rangers underwear.
  • Groupie Brigade: She and several friends get trapped in a McDonald's by one of these.
  • Gundamjack: She stole her mech out of the hangar of the Big Bad's walking battleship, and later takes it up a notch by deciding to steal the ship itself.
  • Honor Before Reason
  • Hot-Blooded: After her resurrection.
  • Hot for Teacher: Until she was transferred to Yukari's class and met Sakaki, Kagura was crushing hard on Nyamo.
  • In-Series Nickname: Kags.
  • Incorruptible Pure Pureness
  • Insane Forgiveness: She forgave Nyamo for raping her in Season 3, because since she was dead she didn't see the point in holding grudges anymore and because she didn't want Nyamo's depression to ruin the life of her unborn baby brother. After her resurrection however she found herself still feeling very awkward and a little nervous around her.
  • Lesbian Jock
  • Missing Mom: Her mother was killed at the start of the Zombie Apocalypse. This led to much drama when her father slept with Nyamo and got her pregnant.
  • Mushroom Samba: Kagura does not react well to Vicodin.
  • The Pollyanna: Up until she was raped by her old swim coach and thought her girlfriend had dumped her, anyway. Then the cutie finally broke.
  • Plucky Girl
  • Running Gag: Her Ringtone changes every time someone calls.
  • Screw Destiny: After her death and resurrection Kagura espouses this view quite adamantly. While she is fully aware of the existence of an almighty presence watching over them, she refuses its authority and is determined not to let it direct her actions.
  • Staying with Friends: Since she's so wealthy, Kagura has no problems letting her friends basically live in her house rent-free.
  • Tear Jerker: Her death in Season 3.
  • Transparent Closet: Until she was outed in Season 2, it often seemed like the only people who didn't catch on that Kagura was gay were the ones she had crushes on.
  • The Woobie

Shinji Ryougi

The Poster Child for Ascension, Ryougi started life as a one-shot gag character to insult Tetsuo Matsuoka, and eventually became one of the main cast members. Terrible at piloting mechs, very proficient with a Knife.

Mark Westion

A hilariously rude, comically violent, super-powered alien from outer space (who looks perfectly human). He dresses like a Super-Villain, and at one point, probably was one. The only thing he enjoys more than blowing things up for no reason is cracking jokes at others' expense.

  • Captain Crash: If he's behind the wheel, you're going to crash. Period.
  • Drives Like Crazy: Mark is said to be the worst pilot in the entire cast, though some believe he's better than he claims, and that he actually just likes playing GTA with real objects.
  • Heel Face Turn: Was intended to be a villain in Season 2, but due to obvious conflicts with the other authors, and the impracticality of the intended story arc, Mark's author decided to turn him into a comically insane "good guy."
  • Heroic Sociopath: Oh Mark, you psychotic monster you. Crashing your spaceship into a hospital full of orphans because it had a landing zone on top. Ahahahahaha! That's so like you.
  • Hollywood Healing: No matter how badly he seems to get hurt, or how many bones he breaks, he gets better by the very next day at the latest.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He might be an insufferable jerk, but he's capable of surprising amounts of warmth and kindness.
  • Love Redeems: Ever since he entered a relationship with Fuuka, he's been trying his hardest to become a better person.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: One of his super-powers is the power to unleash huge torrents of energy in the form of giant red lasers. This has resulted in a few... unfortunate accidents.
  • Superpower Meltdown: He's known to lose control of his superpowers when he's under great emotional stress. He once destroyed an entire planet on accident.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Ryougi.

Sakaki Sakaki

Despite her aloof appearance Sakaki is shy and kind-hearted, with a major soft spot for cats. She is also very protective of her girlfriend Kagura, especially after witnessing everything she'd been through, and just about the only time Sakaki is capable of violence is when she is being hurt or threatened.

Koyomi Mizuhara/Yomi

Better known as Yomi, she is the group's resident Wrench Wench and Mad Scientist, as well as their first (and pretty much only) line of defense against any supernatural threats.

Ayumu Kasuga/Osaka

Or as everyone else calls her, Osaka. Slow and spacey, Osaka often seem to exist in a completely different reality than her friends.

Chiyo Mihama

Chiyo is short, kind-hearted, and disgustingly adorable. She has also died at least twice so far.

Chiyosuke Keimaro

The only member of the Male-Azu's that's still around. A former Child Prodigy who bore an uncanny resemblance to Chiyo, and hung out with a bunch of unlikeable jerks. Finally hit puberty during the Timeskip, so he doesn't look like a preteen girl anymore.

Ferdinand Theodore McBeany/Tardboy

Kokoro Kosaka

A teenage girl who was created in a lab and experimented on for several years before escaping. Met up with the main cast during Zombie Outbreak. Half-sister to Kagura, Tomo, and Torako. (It's complicated.)

Yukari Tanizaki

Minamo Kurosawa/Nyamo

Nyamo is a former high school PE teacher and swim coach. Though she loves Kagura's father, a part of her is certain that her feelings will never be reciprocated, for obvious reasons. Still, she is happy to bear his son and looks forward to living with them as a family.

  • Depraved Bisexual: She had been repressing her bisexuality for years, until she finally gave in to her urges...by raping Kagura.
  • Hot for Student
  • Hot Mom: Now that her son is born.
  • Law of Inverse Fertility: Despite knowing it was a terrible idea, a very drunk Nyamo had sex with Kagura's equally drunk father, barely twenty-four hours afer the death of his wife and Kagura's mother. Guess what happened?

Ryusuke Kagura

Kagura's father. Ryusuke absolutely adores his little girl, and will do anything to protect her and make her happy. He is also the father of Nyamo's baby, which puts him in a rather awkward position, considering she'd raped his daughter.

Supporting Characters

Tsuguhiko Takino

The father of Tomo and Torako Takino, as well as Kokoro Kosaka, and something of a pushover.

Tsuruko Takino

The mother of Tomo and Torako Takino. She is something of a disciplinarian, intent on making sure her daughters avoid the delinquent lifestyle that she led at their age and sometimes going too far in her attempts to keep them on the right path. She has been especially hard on Torako in the past, which she is currently trying to make up for.

  • Ace Pilot: And a better one than Torako in some regards.
  • Action Mom: Though she'd much rather just be a normal housewife.
  • Boobs of Steel
  • The Chains of Commanding: She was chosen to lead the mech team in the attack on the Big Bad's underground base in Season 3, and proceeded to beat herself up when a number of them didn't come back alive. Made even worse by the fact one of the casualties was her own stepdaughter. Or so she thought.
  • Crowning Moment of Awesome: Killing Lady Kimura.
    • To elaborate, Lady Kimura was about 500 feet off the ground on the deck of their Humongous Mecha / Airborne Aircraft Carrier when Tsuruko threw a lance roughly the size of a limousine, impaling her Humongous Mecha right through the cockpit.
    • Not to mention her fight against Emoboy in the Gyration Station base. Whereas Torako was quickly overpowered and captured when she went up against him, Tsuruko actually toyed with him (piloting a machine that barely even reached up to his mech's knee, no less) and contributed to his defeat by Kokoro.
  • Former Teen Rebel: A major source of the drama between Tsuruko and Torako is the former's fear that the latter has been following in her footsteps as a juvenile delinquent.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Tsuruko had completely fallen for Asagi's "innocent nice girl" act and thought that she would be a good influence on Torako. She has only recently begun to realize just how wrong she was.
  • Hot Mom
  • Mama Bear: Lady Kimura learned the hard way that you do not fuck with Tsuruko Takino's children.
  • My Beloved Smother: Torako misinterprets Tsuruko's attempts to keep her on the straight-and-narrow as this.
  • Retired Badass
  • The Scrappy: She thought she was this to the rest of the people on Crazy Julio.

Naomi Hiwatari/Shimauu

While she was considered the "eccentric one" out of her friends in high school, compared to the rest of the cast Naomi is overwhelmingly normal. After running away from the American military base on which she worked she was nearly captured by a gang of Complete Monsters and almost murdered by a group of Sociopathic Soldiers, only to be saved at the last minute by Tachikoma 06.

  • Action Survivor
  • The Chew Toy: She plays this role from time to time.
  • Ensemble Darkhorse
  • A Girl And Her Robot: Unfortunately the only lesson she's learning out of the whole experience is how to deal with stubborn jerkasses.
  • Hero Worshipper: She has a touch of this towards Sgt. Greene, even going so far as to consider joining the military in order to be more like her. (Though her stated reasons of helping to pay for college and learning practical skills are contributors as well.)
  • I Just Want to Be Badass: As part of her hero worship of Sergeant Greene. On multiple occasions she has been reminded that she isn't. At all.
  • In-Series Nickname: Shimauu, though it seems to be falling out of use now that most of the people who called her that are dead or elsewhere.
  • The Ingenue: Easily one of the most innocent members of the cast. Even Chiyo has shown signs of being dirtier-minded than her.
  • Limited Wardrobe: She wears a lot of Army shirts. Slightly justified due to the fact that she lost everything but the clothes on her back over the course of the Zombie Apocalypse and Season 3, and her being a bit of an Army fangirl due to them saving her life and giving her food and shelter for four months, and her admiration of Roberta.
  • Ordinary High School Student: Naomi is easily the most normal teenager in the cast, being the only one who isn't insane, dumb as a bag of nails, a gigantic pervert, or dating an alien. She is also the least able to deal with all the weirdness and violence the group encounters on a daily basis.
  • Parental Abandonment: Naomi's parents did not survive the Zombie Apocalypse.
  • Staying with Friends: Sergeant Greene arranges for her to stay with her family in Iowa at the end of Season 3.
  • Too Dumb to Live: She ran away from the safety of a military base to wander aimlessly through a ruined city populated mainly by gangsters, thieves, murderers, and rapists. Alone. In the middle of the night. To find someone who, for all she knew, would just tell her to get lost. Great thinking kid, that couldn't possibly go wrong!
  • Trauma-Induced Amnesia: It has been suggested in the discussion threads that Shimauu may be repressing traumatic memories of the Zombie Apocalypse.
  • What Could Have Been: Naomi was originally planned to have developed a violent split personality that took over whenever she felt threatened, as a result of mental trauma sustained during the Zombie Apocalypse. Her writer then realized he liked playing her as just a normal (if a bit excitable and dense) teenager more and dropped the idea.

Fuuka Ayase

The Middle Daughter of the Ayase family. Finally dating Mark.

  • Big Eater: Thanks to her recent exposure to American Cuisine.
  • Covert Pervert: Though not nearly covert enough.
  • Cargo Ship: With Ryougi's Lamborghini Reventon.
  • Fat Girl: As of Season 3.5, due to gorging on American Food.
  • Fun T-Shirt: She loves these.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Though she's dating Mark, Fuuka still seems to have feelings for Koiwai. Cue her reflexively calling Sergeant Greene a whore when she finds out the two of them are on a date.
  • Incredibly Lame Pun: Fuuka loves these.
  • Jerkass: To Kokoro.
  • Made of Iron | Immune to Fate: Survived a Zombie Apocalypse, was captured (and recaptured) by Aperture Science, made her way back from a trip to Outer Space, and lived through a fucking nuke. Either Made of Iron, or just really fucking lucky.
    • Though to be fair, the nuke had been detonated in the upper atmosphere in order to create an EMP blast, so the cast was well out of the the physical blast radius.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Fuuka has a gigantic ego, playing down her flaws and playing up or outright inventing qualities with her nose in the air, despite having little reason to be so full of herself.
    • She does have moments where she comes down to Earth and fully acknowledges her shortcomings, usually after she feels as though she's failed in the eyes of someone she cares about.
  • Will They or Won't They?: For the Longest Time.

Koiwai

The adoptive father of Yotsuba Koiwai. He is also currently involved in a romantic relationship with Roberta Greene.

Roberta Greene

A Sergeant in the United States Army, Roberta first joined the cast when she was assigned to keep an eye on Yotsuba and make sure the Japanese government didn't get their hands on her. Since then she has had several close calls, one near-death experience, prevented a war crime, survived a small-scale nuclear war, and became romantically involved with Yotsuba's father.

  • Action Girlfriend: To Koiwai.
  • Ascended Extra
  • Big Sister Bully: Towards Amber during their childhood. She is currently trying to make up for it.
  • Boisterous Bruiser
  • Boobs of Steel
  • Boring but Practical: What we've seen of her mech piloting style seems to fall under this, as most of her time in the cockpit is spent simply sneaking around, coordinating troops, and jamming enemy transmissions, and what combat she has been involved in mainly just involved a lot of shooting.
  • Brilliant but Lazy: Implied to be this.
  • But Not Too Foreign: Half Japanese, half Irish-American.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Though she considers herself more of a Punch Clock Hero, her inability to avoid going out of her way to help others is a clear symptom of this.
  • Cool Big Sis: To Shimauu.
  • Cunning Linguist: Roberta apparently enjoys learning new languages as a hobby, and aside from English she is fluent in Japanese and Mandarin, has a decent grasp of Swahili, and has apparently begun teaching herself Cantonese as well. So far she's used these skills mainly just to mess with Ena.
  • Dirty Business: She has made it clear that she is not comfortable with killing as part of her job, and is quick to impress upon Shimauu and Kokoro that the ability to take a human life is nothing to be proud of.
  • Former Teen Rebel: As she says, she was a bad girl in high school.
    • To give an example, she set her own brother on fire during a camping trip.
      • Though to be fair, it was his idea and they were both drunk.
  • Good Bad Girl: She is implied to have been this in the past, but she's been trying to outgrow it.
  • Good-Looking Privates
  • In-Series Nickname: Twinkie, in reference to her mixed parentage. (Yellow on the outside, white on the inside.)
    • Ena seems to have bestowed this nickname upon her sister Amber, too.
  • Kansai Regional Accent: Roberta's mother originally came from Kumiyama-cho in Kyoto Prefecture, so she and her two siblings all grew up speaking Kyoto-ben as well as English. Any effect this may have on her and her sister's accents when speaking Japanese is lost to the story's Translation Convention, however.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: Though her experiences in the Army have left her a bit disillusioned and with a lot of unpleasant memories, she still maintains a strong sense of justice and a slightly idealistic outlook on the world. This can sometimes put her at odds with the more cynical characters.
  • The Ladette
  • Long-Distance Relationship: With Koiwai, due to her deployment with the Army and the fact that they both currently live on entirely separate landmasses.
  • Moe: In her childhood, at least until she hit puberty. Then she became a Troll, if what we've heard of her backstory is any indication.
  • Near-Death Experience: In Season 3, when she is shot in the chest by Yukari.
  • Nice Girl
  • Noble Profession: She thought she would be signing up for one of these when she joined the Army. Now she's not so sure.
    • After getting out of the Army, she apparently becomes a high school teacher. Subverted by the fact that she finds most teenagers annoying and only got her teaching degree because it required the least amount of effort.
  • Unknown Rival: She has no idea how much Ena hates her guts.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Ai.

Amber Greene

Amber is Roberta's younger sister and a graduate student working towards a Ph.D. in ornithology. She is also painfully shy and a deeply closeted lesbian.

  • Adorkable
  • Anime Hair: Drawing comparisons to Goku. (It's apparently just naturally unruly and hard to control, as opposed to a deliberate style.)
  • Author Appeal: Her love of birds and reptiles is an explicit example of this.
  • Bifauxnen
  • Big Little Sister: Not only is Amber taller than Roberta, but also their brother and father.
  • Covert Pervert
  • Dandere: Want her to talk to you? Ask her about birds.
  • The Eeyore: She constantly worries about being this, since she is so uncomfortable in many social situations and she fears that everyone will pick up on her anxiety and be made to feel bad themselves. Which just makes her even more miserable, which brings the people around her down even further...
  • Extreme Doormat: Amber tends towards this, out of a desire to avoid conflict and get people to stop bothering her and leave her alone.
  • Friendless Background: She has exactly one person she actually considers a friend. Maybe two, depending on how she feels about Shimauu at the time.
  • Gayngst: Due to being tormented and made fun of for most of her life for other reasons, she fears that everyone will reject her for being gay too.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: She really doesn't seem to think too highly of herself, due to years of constantly being picked on by almost everyone, including her two older siblings.
  • Hollywood Homely: Sort of. She was originally intended to be rather plain-looking, but then other characters just kept finding her attractive...it probably helps that she's socially awkward and a massive science geek.
  • Hot Scientist: Well, Hot Scientist-in-Training, according to the other castmembers in Shenanigoats.
  • I Got Bigger: Roberta was not happy when Amber grew too big for her to easily push around.
  • Messy Hair
  • Moe
  • Otaku: Towards science in general, but mostly towards zoology and especially ornithology.
  • Paralyzing Fear of Sexuality
  • Kansai Regional Accent: Though lost to the Translation Convention, Amber uses Kyoto-ben when speaking Japanese.
  • Shrinking Violet
  • Sugar and Ice Girl: She tries to be this, anyway.

Ai Tanagawa

Former member of the Yotsuba Gang and friend of Sergeant Greene, Ai is a loud, vulgar, rude, and generally unpleasant young woman. Quick to anger and prone to violence, she is not someone you would want to be around, no matter how physically attractive she may be.

Elesia Rumiko

A former assassin who recently worked for the Tokyo branch of the Church of Violence, and an old friend of Shinji Ryougi. She currently lives in Hawaii, teaching karate and trying to settle into a more or less quiet, still kinda sorta illegal life.

"How can you move?"

  • Hammerspace: See above.
  • Informed Ability: Unfortunately, most of her on-screen opponents being nigh-unstoppable supernatural beings has relegated much of her fighting prowess to this.
  • Naughty Nuns
  • Memetic Molester: Her Alternate Character Interpretation in the discussion and Shenanigoats threads, portraying her as a closet sexual predator who took Rei into her care so she could rape her
  • Morality Chain: Rei.
  • What Could Have Been: Elesia was originally intended as a Villain, who would have stolen as much information from Crazy Julio and the Dai Kagurren as possible. She would have then danced over the Moral Event Horizon by using mind control on Ryougi to force him to fight someone he cared about while she escaped. However, various story elements came up, and Elesia's author decided against this.
  • Will They or Won't They?: With Sasuke.

Ellen Ryougi

Mother to Shinji Ryougi and a veteran of two wars,

Sasuke Sanaino

A former assassin and member of the Yanda Gang, Sasuke is trying (and failing, it looks like) to settle down and live a quiet, normal life with Elesia and Rei in Hawaii.

Rei Kakizaki

Rei is a deeply traumatized survivor of Japan's Zombie Apocalypse and currently Elesia and Sasuke's Morality Chain.

  • Ascended Extra: Her writer has commented several times how odd it is that she went from a background face to a full-fledged character so quickly.
  • Attempted Rape: In her backstory.
  • Blinding Bangs
  • Break the Cutie: And boy did she break!
  • Cute Mute: Especially now that the one person she did talk to is dead.
  • A Date with Rosie Palms: She recently discovered masturbation and experienced her first orgasm while shut up in a closet.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Poor Rei sailed right on over with the death of her sister Ran. Having lost the one person she had left and feeling alone and helpless surrounded by people who tolerated her at best and hated her at worst, she immediately tried to commit suicide and when stopped by Elesia went into an Angst Coma. She has since begun to recover, at least somewhat.
  • Does Not Like Men: While she does not actively dislike them, Rei tends to be rather skittish around men (and soldiers in general) after a bad experience in a refugee camp.
  • Does Not Like Shoes: Justified, since she never goes outside anyway.
  • Dumb Struck: She hasn't spoken a word since Ran's death.
  • Ensemble Darkhorse
  • Evil Twin: Evil Alternate Universe Rei, though she's not so much evil as she is a top hat-wearing Jerkass.
  • Extreme Omnivore: One of Rei's more unsettling habits is her tendency to compulsively devour any insect she sees.
  • Friendless Background: Due to her shyness and her sheltered childhood Rei never made any friends growing up. She didn't mind too much though, since her parents and siblings filled those roles.
  • Hidden Buxom: If it weren't for that blanket...
  • Hikikomori: As a result of her sheltered childhood and intensely traumatic experiences during the Zombie Apocalypse.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: Rei was this for her sister, and vice versa. She also seems to have become something of a crutch for Sasuke in Season 3.5, as he admits that she reminds him that there is still goodness in the world and that just seeing her every morning is enough to brighten his day.
  • Morality Chain: To Elesia and Sasuke in Season 3.5, giving them both something to live for and a reason to settle down and leave their bloody pasts behind.
  • Moe
  • Nightmare Fuel Coloring Book: Rei is apparently a very gifted artist...though what we've seen of her work is quite disturbing.
  • Older Than They Look: From the neck down Rei's body is actually very well developed and clearly that of a young woman, but since she keeps it hidden under a blanket and most people only see her youthful-looking face it's easy to assume that she's younger than she really is. Being short doesn't help, either.
  • Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette
  • Raven Hair, Ivory Skin
  • Security Blanket: She is rarely seen without one.
  • Shrinking Violet
  • Starboarding: She has recently begun to develop feelings for Sasuke, who by all appearances is more interested in Elesia.
  • Stringy-Haired Ghost Girl: One reason she was so unpopular among the Yotsuba Gang was because she looked like this.
  • Survivor Guilt: Especially since she'd promised Ran she wouldn't let anything happen to her...
  • Tear Jerker: Arguably her entire backstory up until Season 3.5, especially what happened to her family.
    • Or to give a more specific example, her reaction to Ran's death. Unable to cope with the sudden loss of her one remaining sister and Living Emotional Crutch, she breaks down completely, quietly sobbing and pleading for her to Please Wake Up. Made even worse by the knowledge that she really did believe that Ran had been the only person left in the world who loved and cared about her, and that now she was completely, utterly alone.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: See Extreme Omnivore above.
  • Trauma-Induced Amnesia: Rei suffers from this to a degree, in that she has suppressed many of her memories of the zombie apocalypse and can become extremely unpredictable and violent if something happens to make her remember.
  • The Woobie: Bigtime.

Ran Kakizaki

The older sister of Rei Kakizaki. Like her sister Ran had been deeply traumatized by the loss of her family and the events of the Zombie Apocalypse, though she was still mostly capable of functioning and dealing with other people. Killed when she and Rei took a tumble down a flight of stairs while running away from a battle.

  • Ascended Extra
  • Blinding Bangs: In order to shade her light-sensitive eyes.
  • Break the Cutie: Though to a somewhat lesser degree than Rei.
  • Covert Pervert: Ran was apparently a chronic masturbator, and liked to get off in places like public bathrooms.
  • A Date with Rosie Palms: See above.
  • Defiled Forever: Averted. Though she was certainly upset that Daisuke had taken her virginity, she also knew that she had been through far, far worse and was sure she would be able to get over it. Well, if she hadn't died soon after.
  • Driven to Suicide: She never actually worked up the nerve to go through with it though. (Mainly because her suicidal thoughts usually involved taking Rei with her as well. That did a pretty good job of scaring her off the idea.)
  • Extreme Doormat
  • Freaky Fashion, Mild Mind: Fuuka was absolutely terrified of her the first time they met...until she started talking to her.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: When they fell down that flight of stairs, Ran used her own body to protect Rei from the fall, at the cost of breaking her neck.
  • Kill the Cutie
  • Living Emotional Crutch: To Rei.
  • Oblivious to Love
  • Promotion to Parent: She was forced into a caretaker role for Rei when their mother was infected with a zombie virus, killed and ate their father, and tried to do the same to her before Rei intervened with a baseball bat. No wonder the kid's screwed up.
  • Shrinking Violet
  • Stepford Smiler: A bit of a Type A, doing her best to put on a smiling face for Rei's sake while hiding how depressed and helpless she really felt.
  • Stringy-Haired Ghost Girl: Ran could be very creepy, whether she meant to be or not.
  • The Woobie

Daisuke Oonishi

A sleazy casanova with zero respect for women.

  • The Casanova: A rather despicable example.
  • Freudian Excuse: Inherited his misogynistic views of women from his father and uncle, who raised him.
  • Friends with Benefits: With Kasumi Chiba.
  • Karma Houdini: Maybe. Camden isn't a nice place.
  • Moral Event Horizon: If he hadn't crossed it by taking advantage of Ran, he definitely would have done so if his plan to deflower Rei had come to fruition.
  • Put on a Bus: To Camden, New Jersey.
  • Revenge by Proxy: He was angry at Ryougi for making him look like a cowardly idiot, so he took the virginity of Ran, who he knew he had a crush on.
  • Too Dumb to Live: From waving around naked pictures of Kagura while sitting within sight of her father to plotting to try to sex up a girl known for her violent freak-outs, Daisuke's judgment was not always the best in the world.

Kasumi Chiba

A hippie who enjoys photography. Former Yotsuba Gang Member.

Billy Tanahashi

Kasumi's cousin and a bit of a loser.

  • Agent Mulder
  • Anime Hair: You could open a tin can with those bangs.
  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Despite living in a world where there was a highly-publicized Zombie Apocalypse, giant mechs, and having a job as an alien chaser, he steadfastly refuses to believe in aliens, even when they are destroying a city block in front of his face.
  • Long-Lost Relative: He and Kasumi had apparently been out of touch for so long that she hadn't been aware that he lived in Hawaii.
  • Too Dumb to Live: If his behavior in the Shenanigoats thread is any indication, his two main pairing choices are Ai and Li Wei.

Gendo Yamane

The Yotsuba Gang's second in command. Yamane handled many of the gang's day to day affairs that would never have occurred to a five-year-old, and there were some members, such as Ai Tanagawa, who considered him the gang's true leader. Despite being part of the most powerful gang in Japan he is very kind-hearted, and especially has a soft spot for kids.

Tetsuo Matsuoka

The Yotsuba Gang's third in command and Yamane's closest friend. Tetsuo is immature, not especially bright, ineffectual, and generally not very well regarded among his fellow gang members.

Chie Togusa

The gang's frighteningly competent fourth in command. Chie was in actuality a government agent sent to infiltrate the group and bring them down from within, but found herself reluctant to carry out her mission and finally executed a Heel Face Turn when her employers decided she'd become too much of a liability and decided to kill her.

Chihiro Hayasaka

...Who?

  • Bi the Way
  • Bungled Suicide: Between Seasons 3 and 3.5.
  • Character Rerailment: After the death of Sakakuro and an attempted suicide, Chihiro has begun taking antidepressants and seeing a psychiatrist in order to curb her yandere tendencies.
  • Depending on the Writer: The Chihiro of Season 3 is very different from the Chihiro of Seasons 2 and 3.5.
  • Running Gag: People not noticing she's in the room, forgetting who she is, and generally acting as though she doesn't exist.
  • Yandere: For a time in Season 3. She is currently getting psychiatric therapy to combat this.

Miura Hayasaka

Chihiro's little sister, and Ena's best friend.

  • Ambiguously Gay: Maybe. Though nothing definitive has been said on the matter she has displayed some very Les Yay behavior towards Ena and Kagura in the past, and it was heavily implied by her previous writer that she would grow up to be at least bisexual. Now that she has changed hands that behavior seems to have been toned down somewhat, however.
    • Not to mention the fact that she's only ten.
  • Fan Girl: Towards Kagura for a while.
  • Little Miss Snarker
  • Shipper on Deck
  • Tomboy

Rachel Jenkins

Also known by her nickname Handlebarz, Rachel is a troublemaker with an odd obsession with mustard.

  • Angst? What Angst?: While she was pretty broken up over her father's death in Season 2, Rachel seems remarkably laid back about being separated from her mother between Seasons 2.5 and 3.
  • Jerkass
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold
  • Military Brat: Her father was a soldier in the US Army.
  • Missing Mom: Her mother apparently disappeared after they returned to Japan between seasons. Strangely, this is mentioned once and then all but forgotten.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Don't eat anything Rachel makes, unless you really like mustard.

Matsuda Mitsubishi

The group's token stoner. Matsuda has a talent for botany, and has spent years breeding different strains of marijuana (which she would then sell to her classmates). She also has herpes.

  • A Day in the Limelight: Got her own story arc when Shin Chiyo stole her Marijuana.
  • Crazy Awesome: Made Pot Brownies so potent, eating them allowed her to turn into a Tank and a Fighter Jet during the battle against Shin Chiyo.
  • Friend or Drug Decision: When Shin Chiyo gave her the option of saving her Pot or saving Moto. Of course, since the hostage Moto turned out to be a demon in disguise, she would've been screwed either way.
  • The Stoner: She's only comfortable when she's high.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Hash Brownies

Risu Kasuga

Osaka's older sister. She is much more coherent than her sibling, and enjoys playing music, astronomy, and picking up chicks. Currently falling for Amber Greene.

Motoko Kagura

Ryusuke's wife and Kagura's mother, as well as the biological mother of Kokoro. She was killed in the Zombie Apocalypse, and has since become an angel tasked with helping the souls of the dead adjust to the afterlife.

  • Casual Kink: She met her husband at an orgy in college, and apparently likes to engage in group sex up in Heaven. After visiting her husband and daughter as a ghost in Season 3, Motoko seriously Squicks out Kagura by gleefully informing her that they have all-girl orgies, too.
  • Hot Mom
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Motoko supports her husband and Nyamo and sincerely hopes that they'll be able to put whatever it is that's holding them apart behind them and be happy together, because she doesn't want him to spend the rest of his life mourning her and feeling sad.
    • It's probably for the best that she doesn't know that things were so awkward between them because Nyamo had raped Kagura.
  • Posthumous Character: Killed offscreen during the Zombie Apocalypse, and now appears only as an angel or a ghost.

Myoji Sakakuro

The more-or-less Leader of the Male-Azu's. Had the personality of a cardboard box. Died when Herr Medic pulled the plug on his life support.

Masanobu Himeaoki/Kyoto

Close friend of Sakakuro. Underaged little love slave to Yukari. Got sent to Hell when Yomi blessed the ship. Recently came back after hitching a ride when The Boss tried to bind himself to a new body, which Kyoto seems to have taken over.

Moto Ueda

A compulsive liar who claimed to be Tomo and Torako's half-brother, among other things. Another member of the Male Azu's. Dated Matsuda (for roughly a day). Died of Herpes (somehow).

  • Ass Pull
  • Brother-Sister Incest: Wanted to invoke this with Tomo
  • Character Development: One reason Moto was so hated by the other writers was his writer's tendency to sidestep many opportunities to develop him into someone more interesting, and instead chose avenues that just made him less interesting and more unlikeable.
  • Dropped a Bridge on Him: Also also unceremoniously killed between seasons
  • Expy: Of Tomo
  • Hatedom: Some of the writers really don't like him.
  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: Throughout his time with the cast Moto discovered that he had the ability to heal plants with a touch, cure himself of herpes, and somehow witness events in the past that he would have been far too young to remember.
  • Retcon: The fact that he had been introduced as the son of Tomo and Torako's father by a different mother did not go over well with the people playing the rest of the Takino family, as they had not been informed or consulted beforehand. After the person writing him left and he was killed off, it was decided to retcon out any actual blood relation he had to the family.
  • The Scrappy: One of Three
  • STD Immunity: After having sex with Matsuda and catching her herpes, he discovered he could cure himself by simply willing it out of his body. Later retconned into simply being one of his delusions.

Eri Mizuhara

Yomi's mother. After the collapse of Japan she was abducted by the CIA and taken to the Undisclosed Location, where they spent eight months trying to install Windows in her brain.

  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Believes in the existence of God and other such supernatural entities as demons and ghosts and has witnessed a Zombie Apocalypse firsthand, but still demands proof when told of the existence of extraterrestrial life.
  • Deadpan Snarker
  • Hot Mom
  • Woman With The Leash: Igal is bound to obey her every command because she spoke his true name. She wasn't really expecting it to actually work, and is a bit freaked out by it.
  • Meganekko
  • She Knows Too Much: Or at least the crew of the Slithery Dee THINK she does, which is why they want to sell her to the local Triads.

Tachikoma 06/Six

After getting separated from his masters, Six rescued Shimauu from a group of Sociopathic Soldiers and they quickly became friends...sort of.

Reizo Yamaguchi

Another former member of the Yotsuba Gang. Along with Kasumi he currently lives in his brother's apartment while working as a pizza delivery boy. He also supplements his income by selling weed on the side, apparently including Kagura among his regular buyers.

Ena Ayase

Fuuka's little sister, and an adorable raging bigot. Hates everyone that isn't a heterosexual Japanese with a fiery passion. Currently trapped in that endless nightmare that she calls "Living in America."

  • Bilingual Backfire: Played with when she tells Roberta "Fuck your mother" in Chinese. She had no idea what she was actually saying other than that it made Chinese people angry, and when it became clear that Roberta, Koiwai, and Ryougi all knew exactly what she'd just said she (unsuccessfully) demanded a translation.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Don't let her cuteness fool you.
  • Crowning Moment of Awesome: Gunned down the BLU Spy, found a way to respawn the deceased RED Team, and defused a nuke that was ready to blow. All armed with Scout's pistol and a jar of Sniper's Jarate.
  • Hero Worshipper: To Ryougi.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: Is disturbingly good with a gun.
  • Insane Equals Violent: Used to keep a little black notebook of all the people she hated and planned to take revenge on. Very nearly put Fuuka into it when Fuuka called her on it.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Miura usually manages to talk her down from her seething hatred.
  • Love Triangle: In one with Chiyosuke and Chiyo
  • Precocious Crush: On Yanda, which he is blissfully unaware of.
  • Puppy Love: With Chiyosuke, if Miura has her way.
  • Troubled Sympathetic Bigot: Struggling to overcome her racist and homophobic tendencies.
  • Unknown Rival: Ena hates Roberta. The latter remains utterly oblivious to this.
  • What Could Have Been: Her author had originally planned a storyline where, due to a combination of circumstantial evidence and the Dead Ringer, Ena would have been made to appear to have murdered Miura. However, conflicts with the other authors nixed this.

Ika Musume

An adorable, kind-hearted little Squid Girl with evil ambitions to enslave humanity. She's taken a liking to former invader Mark Westion.

  • Squid out of Water - She spent most of her life living under the sea. As such, she doesn't understand human culture all that well (although she sometimes displays oddly specific knowledge).
  • Modern Major-General - She's exceptional at everything she attempts except carrying out invasions. After viewing a few math problems, she learned how to solve high-school math in the blink of an eye, and high-level math as fast as she can write; she can learn entire languages just by hearing a few spoken sentences; she's a godlike drummer just out of nowhere. Still can't conquer a small cafe out on the beach to save her life.
  • Hero Worshipper: To Mark.
  • Tentacle Hair (theatre): She has ten super-strong, super-fast, super-dextrous tentacles growing out of her head. They're more useful than her hands most of the time.
  • Replacement Squid: To Padudu, as Mark's overambitious waterborne-animal-based little minion. Lampshaded.
  • Verbal Tic - "Stop making fun of the way I talk~de geso!"

Minor Characters

Li Wei Yang

A Chinese-American gunrunner from Hawaii and First Mate aboard the Slithery Dee. Has an extremely nasty disposition, and a drug-addicted brother, Jiao Long.

Dillon

A southern gunrunner and Captain of the Slithery Dee. A habitual liar, he claims to have served in the US Army, the US Marine Corps, the French Foreign Legion, six or so Black-Ops Teams, and the Salvation Army.

Julio Chavez/Crazy Julio

A former gunrunner who sold Torako her Humongous Mecha and had his brain transplanted into an Airborne Aircraft Carrier he stole on a whim. (He has since come to realize the drawbacks to this.) Has seven ex-wives and eleven children.

Bishy McBitchpants

A womanizing, ambiguously wealthy playboy from Hawaii who tried to steal Sakaki away from Kagura.

Dr. Madeline Chen

A very fashionable psychiatrist. Currently helping Chihiro and Jiao Long with their respective problems. Hired Rinko as an intern.

  • Apathetic Psychiatrist: Averted; She does take her job very seriously, but her cold and aloof attitude tends to give people the wrong impression.
  • Bob Haircut
  • Dropped a Bridge On Her: Briefly, until the mid-Season 4 retcon.
  • Hello, Nurse!: She seems to have this effect on men, causing Ryougi to run straight into a lamp post after passing him on the street.
  • Mafia Princess: Her father has ties to the local Chinese Mafia. This has led Dr. Chen to become the Go-To-Girl for various Mafia Members and other criminals with Psychiatric problems.
  • Ms. Fanservice: "blatant fanservice tit shot.png"

Snoop Dogg

Yes, that Snoop Dogg. Wound up getting mixed up in Matsuda's duel against Shin Chiyo. Now runs an Intergalactic Pot Shop in Outer Space.

Igor

Randomly pops up for no particular reason.

Yuu Wada

Class Slut back before the Zombie Apocalypse. The one who gave Matsuda her infamous herpes. Died of every STD known to man.

Thomas Mencia

A Captain in the US Army and the commanding officer of Henderson and Greene. He is something of a soft touch, and occasionally lets those in his command get away with extremely insubordinate behavior.

Rebecca Henderson

A Second Lieutenant in the US Army and Sergeant Greene's platoon leader.

  • Big Damn Heroes: Possibly minor examples, but saving the Dai Kagurren's bridge crew moments before it exploded and ambushing Kurskev to help Torako get to safety has to count for something.
  • Genre Savvy: She doesn't like to talk about her husband and son back home, as people who do so in movies are often soon killed.
  • Mauve Shirt

Misato Kakizaki

The middle Kakizaki sister. She was attending college when the Zombie Apocalypse broke out, and was torn apart and devoured by her undead classmates.

  • Beautiful All Along: When she ties her hair back to actually let everyone see her face.
  • Bifauxnen
  • Blinding Bangs: It seems to run in the family...
  • Deadpan Snarker
  • Greek Chorus: One of her main gimmicks is to negatively comment on the decisions her writer makes and generally complain about the way he treats his characters.
  • Hollywood Homely: She once lamented the fact that both her sisters were far more attractive than her, and yet she was the only one of them who was ever able to get a boyfriend.
  • Only Sane Man: Of the three Kakizaki sisters, Misato was apparently the only one who wasn't cripplingly shy, socially awkward, and unintentionally creepy.
  • Posthumous Character: She only ever shows up in the discussion threads and in Shenanigoats, since she was killed in the canon timeline long before either of her sisters were ever introduced.
  • Troll: In her very first appearance, tricked Koiwai into thinking she was a daughter from the future that he had conceived with Ran before abandoning her.

Katsuko Pournelle

A talent agent currently working for Kagura and, most recently, Tardboy. She was also Torako's agent for a while.

  • But Not Too Foreign: All There in the Manual. Her mother was a Japanese woman from Okinawa, and her father was a US Marine stationed there. Her ability to speak Japanese is justified by the fact that she was born in Okinawa and lived there until she was thirteen.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: A minor example; she feels a twinge of guilt over helping Tardboy to get his own reality show, since she knew Torako would inevitably be dragged into it despite wanting nothing more to do with the limelight. Torako and Yomi even call her a traitor when they find out.
  • Hot Chick in a Badass Suit
  • Meganekko
  • Military Brat

Dr. Victoria West

An accomplished surgeon who's a touch on the insane side. Her ethics are loose at best, which has led to her medical license being revoked (not that that stops her).

Ichiro Yamaguchi

Reizo's older brother who was evacuated from Japan to Hawaii at the end of Season 2. Now reunited with his little brother, he is currently letting him and Kasumi live in his apartment.

Aoi Hasegawa, Yoko Tsumura, and Murasaki Ogura

Three members of the Yotsuba Gang who took up positions as the Dai Kagurren's bridge crew after the cast commandeered it.

Ip-Sing Fesh

An alien pirate opposed to the Veluzshi Empire.

Jane Kanakis

Former stand-up comedian, and host of late-night talk show Go To Bed Already.

  • Anything That Moves/Depraved Bisexual: Her television persona.
  • Bi the Way: Is openly bisexual, and a strong advocate for gay rights
  • Deadpan Snarker: Her deadpan sense of humor is her main gimmick as a comedian, to the point that she has never been seen smiling on camera.
  • Driven to Suicide: By depression in her backstory. It didn't work, obviously.
  • Emotionally-Repressed Girl: Possibly due to her crippling depression issues.
  • Functional Addict: In the past at least, as she's mentioned several times that she used to do a lot of cocaine and it obviously hasn't wrecked her life beyond repair (preexisting depression and suicidal thoughts notwithstanding, of course).
  • Hime Cut: A non-Japanese example.
  • Hot Chick in a Badass Suit
  • Malicious Slander: Plays it for laughs- her goal in life is to spread outlandish rumors about celebrities, to see how long it takes to get sued. These claims include: that the Pope ding-dong-ditched her for a month straight, that Tom Brokaw stole her car's hood ornament and sold it back to her on ebay, and that Katie Couric date-raped her.

Tau Mancer

An Altarian agent, given free reign to do as he sees fit in the galaxy for the benefit of Altaria and the detriment of any "evil" he can find. Joined Ip-Sing's crew after hearing about her run-in with the Veluszhi.

  • Bi the Way: Though being in the military has made him more used to men, Altarians make no distinction for gender, species or anything else.
  • Expy: Altarians in YiF share a name, traits and some history with the faction from GalCiv, but much license is taken with their culture. Mainly for laughs.
  • Knight Templar: His entire species used to be like this, with dire consequences.
  • Redheaded Hero
  • Shonen Hair

Pakhet-tai-Ghreendahal sen Pamutarl-Shusurama Savi Sefkhet

Another alien space pirate with a serious grudge against Ip-Sing after she attacked her ship with no provocation aside from the (incorrect) belief that she was a slave-trader.

Villains

Kaori Aida/Kaorin

A former classmate of Kagura and Sakaki. Until recently she had a rabid crush on the latter, and utterly hated Kagura for standing in her way.

Ayako Kimura/Lady Kimura

Mister Abe Kimura's wife. Previously thought to be sweet and innocent, she was recently revealed to be even more dangerous and depraved than her husband. (Possibly due to a complete mental breakdown brought on by the Zombie Apocalypse and subsequent collapse of Japanese civilization.) Killed by Tsuruko Takino.

Shin Chiyo

An evil spirit from beyond the void that took over Chiyo Mihama's body for most of Season 3.

GLaDOS

Yes, that GLaDOS.

The Boss

The Big Bad of the third season, The Boss was in charge of the porn company that made Tardboy, Torako, and Kagura famous. Obsessed with and deriving his power from money, he planned to force Tardboy and Kagura to make...films together in order to sell even more DVDs, though after they proved to be big enough thorns in his side he settled for simply killing them. He was eventually defeated by Yomi, and ended up banished from Earth.

Mad Muscle

A hulking, dim-witted clone of Tardboy.

Emoboy

Another clone of Tardboy, this one sullen and moody.

Tardynia

A female clone specializing in seduction.

Zomgura

Zombified version of Kagura. After Kagura came back from the dead (complete with a new body), her old corpse, now lacking a soul, rose from the grave. Had a single battle with the protagonists, was soon killed, and was never mentioned again.

Dzhavgru Igal

A middle-ranking demon from Hell. Formerly laid claim to Rei's soul, until Sasuke was able to gain her freedom by getting him thirteen more in a trade. Currently bound to obey Eri Mizuhara.

Vladimir Kurskev

A Russian AS pilot and former Spetznaz soldier involved with the Red Star terrorist group.

  • A Soviet By Any Other Name: After the Soviet Union was dissolved, Kurskev defected and joined a group of Soviet terrorists.
  • The Dreaded: He's apparently spent much of his time in Season 3 chewing through the American forces in Japan, to the point where their AS pilots are under orders to avoid engaging him as much as possible. Second Lieutenant Henderson is scared shitless when she encounters him.
  • Failure Is the Only Option: For anyone unlucky enough to face him in combat, that is.
  • God Mode Sue: Though he does take his share of hits, his character was explicitly created to take other characters down a few pegs when the person writing him felt they were getting too powerful. Unfortunately this also means anyone facing him is screwed, because the most they can hope to achieve is a narrow escape. Victory is not an option.
  • Implacable Man: If you look like an interesting challenge, he will be coming after you.
  • Red Scare
  • Renegade Russian
  • Terms of Endangerment

Gathuum-sythaal / "Warmaster"

Supreme Commander of the Veluszhi Imperial Military. A cold, calculating monster who demands that his orders be followed to the letter. Does not tolerate failure at all.

Fedt-geszhine / "Nerdmaster"

Second-in-Command of the Veluszhi Imperial Military. The only character quite possibly more evil than Warmaster, Fedt-geszhine is a scrawny mad scientist with a complete and total lack of ethics.

Nai'tyrrus / "Ghostmaster"

Ambassador of the Veluszhi Imperial Military, and definitely the least monstrous of the three. He is a quiet, respectful man who seems rather detached from his duties. Has the ability to raise and speak to the dead.

B-3-K

Herald and Ambassador of the Cluster, a group of aliens intent on wiping out all other life in the universe. Cold and hostile, she holds all life outside of the Cluster in roughly the same regard as pond scum, and makes little effort to hide this.

Future Children

These characters don't exist in the actual story arcs, they come exclusively from the non-canon Shenanigoats threads. They're fun characters with no real point except to act out potential probable futures.

Nathan Kagura

The son of Ryusuke Kagura and Minamo Kurosawa, and the oldest of the so-called "Future kids." Also the only one to appear in canon so far (albeit as a baby).

Chainsaw Takino

The daughter of Tardboy and Torako and the second oldest of the future kids.

Tardboy Takino, Jr.

Tardboy and Torako's second child.

"I CAN HANDLE YOU TAKING ALL OF MY GODDAMN CIGARETTES, I CAN DEAL WITH YOU VIDEOTAPING ME BEHIND MY BACK, BUT NO ONE, NOT MAN NOR MACHINE, EVER FUCKING COCK BLOCKS ME WITHOUT PAYING FOR IT!!!"

Mitsuho Takino

The youngest child of Tardboy and Torako.

Futaba Kagura

Kagura and Sakaki's adopted daughter.

Haruhiko Kumeta Torako Mizuhara, Jr.

Tomo and Yomi's adopted son, left with badly frayed nerves and a short temper after living under their roof and having his name forcibly changed.

  • A Man Is Always Eager: Oh so averted. He gets freaked out just from getting kissed on the cheek.
  • Butt Monkey: Even when his friends feel bad about making fun of him, they just keep doing it anyway because it's funny.
  • Gender Blender Name: Tomo decided to name him after her sister. He wasn't thrilled.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper
  • Has Two Mommies
  • Jail Bait Wait: He tells Kwasausya to get back to him when she's eighteen.
  • Only Sane Man
  • Squick: His reaction to finding out that Kwasausya, who is six years his junior (making her ten years old in the time that he's visiting from), has the hots for him.

Samantha Kosaka

The oldest child of Ryougi and Kokoro. Extremely lazy and a little scary.

Ran Sanaino

The daughter of Sasuke and Rei, from an alternate timeline where Elesia had forced them to have sex.

Jenna Koiwai

The daughter of Koiwai and Roberta Greene. She takes after both her parents much more than they'd like.
