Survivor (TV series)/Characters/Palau
Tom Westman
- The Ace: Tom won five immunity challenges, the most of any winner. He also carried (along with Ian and Gregg) Koror to a unanimous win over Ulong throughout the pre-merge.
- Badass: He killed a shark with a machete.
- Retired Badass: Former Firefighter.
- Born Winner
- Cool Old Guy
- Happily Married
- The Hero
- Hot Dad
- Magnetic Hero: Even the people he betrayed voted for him at the end; granted, the alternative was Katie...
- Manipulative Bastard: If only in a single instance. Towards the very end during the final immunity challenge, Tom basically guilts Ian into quitting by using their friendship as leverage. He also successfully backstabbed another sub-alliance within his team one vote before they were planning to backstab him.
- No Damage Run
- Rated "M" for Manly
- Sole Survivor
- Team Dad: Initially, his strategy was to be seen as the Team Dad of the tribe, and let the younger alpha males be seen as the leaders of the tribe and thus the bigger targets. Lo and behold, Tom's natural leadership ability and challenge dominance couldn't be hid for long.
Katie Gallagher
- Alpha Bitch
- Blondes Are Evil
- Gossipy Hen
- Humiliation Conga: Final Jury wasn't exactly a pleasant experience for her. But she did take it in stride at the reunion.
- Jerkass
- Lazy Bum
- The Load: Reportedly the only person to ever gain weight while on the show.
- The Only One I Trust: With Ian.
- Screwy Squirrel
- Smug Snake
- Ungrateful Bitch
Ian Rosenberger
- Adorkable
- Badass
- Dying Moment of Awesome: Also his Crowning Moment of Heartwarming, though it's debated.
- Friend to All Living Things: He works as a dolphin trainer, and apologizes sincerely to a large snake before he kills it for it's meat.
- Hair of Gold
- Heroic Sacrifice
- Honor Before Reason: Very much willing to play dirty, but his conscience was so strong he gave up his game for the really quite minimal betrayals and lies he told.
- Keet
- The Lancer: To Tom.
- Mr. Fanservice
- Muscles Are Meaningless: He doesn't need a Heroic Build to be Badass in challenges.
- Noodle People
- One Head Taller: He's 6'8, the tallest person in the entire cast.
- Redemption Equals Death: At least in Ian's eyes anyway, he was redeemed when he gave up immunity.
- Shocking Elimination
- Smart People Wear Glasses
- The Starscream: A failed example. Towards the very end he tries to betray Tom because he thinks he can more easily beat Jenn and Katie in the final challenge, but is caught in his lies.
- Suicide by Cop
- Worthy Opponent: To Tom, especially during the last two challenges. The final endurance challenge was the longest challenge in Survivor history by hours, at the time.
Jennifer "Jenn" Lyon
- The Chick
- Four Is Death: Tragically, Jenn was diagnosed with breast cancer after the show, and passed away only weeks before the tenth anniversary in 2010.
- Green Eyes
- Guile Heroine: The deleted scenes show Jenn being a lot more cunning than she was portrayed during the show.
- Hair of Gold
- Hello, Nurse!
- Out of Focus
- Plucky Girl
- The Pollyanna
- Shocking Elimination: Like Bobby Jon.
- Yamato Nadeshiko
Caryn Groedel
- Cool Old Lady
- Laser-Guided Karma
- Power Hair
- Spanner in the Works: To the Girls alliance.
Gregg Carey
- The Big Guy
- Genius Bruiser
- Mr. Fanservice
- Ship Tease: With Jenn.
- Tall, Dark and Handsome
- The Rival: Gregg and Ian were the only ones who would ever stand a chance against Tom in the finals, which is why Tom blindsides him the first chance he gets.
- The Strategist
Stephenie LaGrossa
- Badass
- Breakout Character: And came back just one season later because of it.
- Chekhov's Skill: Fire making.
- Distaff Counterpart: To Bobby Jon.
- Foregone Conclusion
- Hello, Nurse!
- Informed Ability
- Last Of Her Kind: Reduced to a tribe of one, she was simply absorbed into the Koror.
- Plucky Girl: AND HOLY SHIT HOW!
- Shocking Elimination
- Short Dark And Bishoujo
- Shorttank
- Tagalong Kid: To Koror.
Janu Tornell
- Heroic Sacrifice
- Non Gameplay Elimination: She's the fourth person to quit Survivor.
- Plucky Girl
- Tall, Dark and Bishoujo
- Thanatos Gambit
- The Unfavorite: Think about it - her time on Exile Island revealed the happiest time of her Survivor experience is when she's alone and away from her tribe; just how bad did she have it there the cameras didn't pick up on or show?
Coby Archa
- Badass Gay: Coby was arguably in Korror's top 3 on a consistent basis.
- Camp Gay
- Crouching Gay Hairdresser, Hidden Badass
- Deadpan Snarker
- Green-Eyed Monster
- Hoist by His Own Petard: Not unlike Roger from Amazon, he dropped out of his last immunity challenge believing he was perfectly safe.
- Jerk Justifications
- Noodle Incident: For whatever reason not seen on screen (it's hinted at but not really elaborated to the extent Coby stretched it to) he really had it out for Tom, and his jury vote would have gone to whoever was not Tom.
- The Resenter: To Tom. In fact he's the only one who didn't vote for Tom in the finale. And he made it clear that it's not a vote for Katie, but against Tom.
- Smug Snake
- Sour Supporter
- Tall, Dark and Snarky
- "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Busts it out at Final Jury.
Bobby Jon Drinkard
- Badass
- Breakout Character: To the point that he was immediately brought back for the following season.
- Bunny Ears Lawyer
- Cloudcuckoolander
- Death by Irony: Taught Stephenie how to make fire.
- Determinator
- Everything's Better With Bobby Jon
- Mr. Fanservice
- Sanity Slippage: There's one time that Steph actually think he's turning into a caveman.
- Shocking Elimination: He was one of only two people left on Ulong. Since there was no point in voting, they simply had a fire-making challenge to decide who left.
- Spear Counterpart: To Stephenie.
- Tall, Dark and Handsome
- Worthy Opponent: To Tom.
Ibrehem Rahman
- The Load: Despite appearing to be one of the fittest people there, he was beyond useless in challenges. That's why Koror chose to give him immunity.
- The Stoic
- Token Minority: Notable for being the show's first Muslim contestant.
James Miller
- Becoming the Mask: It's hard to tell whether or not his stereotypical "redneck" behavior is an act or not. One minute he's speaking pretty normally to the Confession Cam, and the next he's giving some bizarre homespun speech to the tribe that only he can understand.
- Catch Phrase: "Come on!"
- Chew Toy: A recurring theme in the first half of the season is James bringing something up as a skill he's acquired and then getting beat at it every time.
- Southern-Fried Genius: He tried to be this but most certainly wasn't.
Angie Jakusz
- Crouching Weak Player Hidden Badass: Was nearly voted out in the first Tribal Council for being perceived as a weak player. She wasn't, and actually turned out to be one of Ulong's strongest players in challenges.
- Diabolus Ex Machina: While not a new twist by any means, had Koror not been given the opportunity to hand immunity to Ibrehem specifically because he was terrible, Angie could have lasted a little while longer. Instead, she's targeted only because she was on the outside of an alliance, and sent packing.
- Fag Hag: During the first day, her and Coby seemed to be friends. Seemed to be, until Coby passed her over during the tribal selection process. Angie was slightly devastated by it.
- Meganekko
- Perky Goth: Most of the time, anyway.
Willard Smith
- Out of Focus: He didn't get a lot of screen time, but post show interviews and certain deleted scenes have hinted that the guy was a Deadpan Snarker and Cool Old Guy.
- Running Joke: Some of the viewers thought that Willard looked like Palau's version of the Immunity Idol.
- Sacrificial Lamb
- Self-Deprecation: He refers to himself as an old curmudgeon.
- Thanatos Gambit: Subverted. After he got voted off, Willard told his tribe Koror to "Stick to the plan, finish them off", which referred to Ulong. But what he said he was really trying to do was to encourage his tribe to become overconfident in challenges, lose, and then self implode.
Kim Mullen
- Broken Bird: She recognizes fairly quickly that Ulong is a doomed tribe, but accepts her fate and doesn't do too much to save herself.
- The Cassandra
- The Complainer Is Always Wrong: She complained about Ulong's dysfunctions and lack of cohesiveness. Not that she ever did anything about it though.
- The Load
- Ship Tease: With Jeff W.
Jeff Wilson
- Mr. Fanservice
- The Rival: He was the only person on Ulong who could keep up against Tom from Koror in the challenges.
- Ship Tease: With Kim.
- Suicide by Cop / Thanatos Gambit: He asked for Ulong to vote him off after rolling his ankle on a coconut in the middle of the night. It's debatable whether he actually quit or not, because he genuinely believed that his injury made him of no further use to his tribe.
Ashlee Ashby
- Alliterative Name
- Gag Boobs: To the point of rivaling Danielle's in Panama.
- Ill Girl
- Ms. Fanservice
- Suicide by Cop: Asked to be voted out (not shown on TV).
Jolanda Jones
- The Ace: She's an accomplished athlete in Real Life, and showed off her track skills by winning one of the two individual immunity necklaces during the first day (the other being Ian).
- Alliterative Name
- Hot Amazon
- My Death Is Only the Beginning: It's hard to say whether Ulong would have done better if they hadn't voted out Jolanda, but she certainly was useful in challenges.
- Shocking Elimination: Bad Boss or not, she seemed like the only one who potentially could have whipped the chaos that was Ulong in shape.
- Team Mom
Wanda Shirk
Jonathan Libby
- We Hardly Knew Ye: Why was he eliminated on the second day? We'll probably never know, but Angie did hint at the Reunion that he was a bit of a Jerkass.
