Survivor (TV series)/Characters/Vanuatu
Chris Daugherty
- Anti-Hero: Particularly for guys.
- Badass Boast: This line in the penultimate episode showed us just how much control he had in the game:
I don't trust Scout, I don't trust Twila, I don't trust Eliza, I don't trust Julie. And they don't trust each other. And the most screwed-up thing about it is I think they all trust me.
- Badass Long Hair
- The Chessmaster
- Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: Particularly to Julie and Eliza.
- Dark Horse Victory: The only guy on a tribe full of Straw Feminists manages to turn the game around, manipulate all the women not only into allowing him into the Final Four, but giving him the money when the jury was five women to two men. Jeff once called him the most unlikely winner in the game's history.
- Determinator
- Elimination Houdini
- Fat Bastard: But, as noted elsewhere, he's really more of an anti-hero than a villain.
- Foreshadowing: This confessional at the middle of the season foreshadows just how he ends up winning the game:
You question a woman's character... you question a woman's ability, she'll snap your neck! ...You open your heart, show a woman you're vulnerable, then they start thinkin' with their heart.. That's when they open up that back door.
- Guile Anti-Hero: Decently strong in challenges but his best weapon was definitely his cunning.
- Hair of Gold
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold
- Large Ham
- Law of Chromatic Superiority
- Love to Hate
- Magnificent Bastard
- The Man Behind the Man: On Lopevi, Sarge was the unofficial leader of the tribe and in challenges, but it was Chris who was actually calling the shots.
- Manipulative Bastard
- Needs More Love: Hasn't returned to play a second time, in spite of the impressive manner in which he won.
- Never Live It Down: Cost his tribe Immunity in the first challenge by being completely unable to cross a balance beam. Probst certainly found some amusement in the fact that in spite of it he ended up running deep and ultimately winning.
- Nice Cap
- The One Guy / Last of His Kind
- Playing Both Sides:
- Professional Butt-Kisser: Takes it Up to Eleven during the jury questioning. Scout called him a "bullshit artist" for a reason.
- Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Does he ever.
Chris: I will burn every one of them. Just let 'em open the door. This [vote] is for you, not against you.
- The Smart Guy
- Sole Survivor
- The Strategist: Claimed to be one in the very first episode, but we didn't get to really see him in action until his back was to the wall.
- Villainous Valour
Twila Tanner
- Alliterative Name
- Cool Old Lady
- Fiery Redhead
- Grumpy Old Woman
- Ladette: Outright says early on that she has a much easier time getting along with men as opposed to women, and it shows in the game.
- Never Live It Down: Her promise with her son's life was used against her.
Scout Cloud Lee
- Bi the Way
- Cool Old Lady
- Grumpy Old Woman
- Hair of Gold
- Ice Cream Koan: Delivers a couple of these during her tribal council votes, most notably when she votes for Julie and tells her to "return to her roots," whatever that means.
- Plucky Girl
- Team Mom
- The Load: In challenges
Eliza Orlins
- All of the Other Reindeer: As elegantly put by herself, for all of Vanuatu she was really working with an alliance of herself, and...well, just herself.
- Badass Adorable
- Beware the Nice Ones
- Ensemble Darkhorse
- Moe
- Plucky Girl: The Ur Example for Survivor; Eliza knew that every Tribal Council, she was extremely close to being voted out every time, and in spite of that kept on trucking along.
Julie Berry
- Beware the Nice Ones
- Hello, Nurse!
- Ms. Fanservice
- Plucky Girl
- Tall, Dark and Bishoujo
- The Tease
- Yamato Nadeshiko
Ami Cusack
- Action Girl
- Anti-Villain: For the most part it's really just the way the game plays out that makes her the villain; aside from a moment here or there she's really not much worse than Chris.
- The Baroness
- Big Bad: To the Amazon Brigade.
- Bi the Way
- Blondes Are Evil
- Designated Villain
- Evil Is Sexy
- Hair of Gold
- Ice Queen
- Manipulative Bitch
- Ms. Fanservice
- Plucky Girl
- Power Hair
- Smug Snake
- Straw Feminist: To the freaking core! To the point where she didn't even want to teach the guys who ended up on her tribe mildly useful survival skills.
Leann Slaby
- The Dragon: To Ami.
- Evil Is Sexy
- Hello, Nurse!
- Laser-Guided Karma: Decided to target Eliza instead of Chris simply because Eliza was annoying her - Chris took advantage of her decision to rally Eliza to his side and get Leann voted out.
- Ms. Fanservice
- Plucky Girl
- Shocking Elimination
- Tall, Dark and Bishoujo
- The Woman Behind The Women According to post-game interview with Chris, Leann was the one who called shots in all-female alliance, not Ami.
James Crittenden
Lea Masters
- The Ace
- Death Glare: When Scout starts singing to him mockingly the day after Rory was voted off. Probably qualifies as a Crowning Moment of Funny.
- Drill Sergeant Nasty: Subverted; he was only this in a challenge where he had to call upon it to lead the tribe. Otherwise he was a pretty good guy.
- Naked People Are Funny
- Only Known by Their Nickname: Sarge
- Team Dad
Rory Freeman
- The Complainer Is Always Wrong
- Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: The moment you put a slingshot in his hands, watch out.
- Elimination Houdini: But only just once.
- Memetic Mutation: "I'm a grown ass man!"
John Kenney
- Bishonen
- Mr. Fanservice
- Too Dumb to Live: Chris said that the reason he was kept the longest out of all the younger guys was because he was the least skilled at the game.
Travis Sampson
- Nice Guy
- Only Known by Their Nickname: Bubba
- Too Dumb to Live: Tried to tell Chris to "remember the merge" (i.e., throw the immunity challenge) after they were split up onto other tribes.
Mia Galeotalanza
- Hair-Trigger Temper
- Happy Dance / Victory Gloating: At Curb Stomp challenge she actually moonwalks to the finish
- Sitcom Arch Nemesis: To Twila
John "J.P" Palyok
- I Coulda Been a Contender
- Malaproper: Was frequently butchering words, his most famous quote is about "amber"(ember)
- Tall, Dark and Handsome
Dolly Neely
- Farm Girl
- Hair of Gold
- The Quisling: Subverted. Eliza was paranoid that Dolly would turn into this, and orchestrated Dolly's exit, but Dolly never planned on betraying the younger girl's alliance.
Brook Geraghty
- The Complainer Is Always Wrong: Lobbied the hardest for Chris to be vote out; it caused the majority alliance to turn on him instead.
- Death by Genre Savviness: Was the first guy voted out for being the only younger man on Lopevi(there was an age war going on at the time) to have watched the show previously. He even called himself a super fan of Survivor in his bio.
- I Coulda Been a Contender
