Star Driver/Characters
The characters of the anime series Star Driver:
Main Characters
Takuto Tsunashi
Protagonist of the series. He pilots the Cybody Tauburn, one of the mechs that was formerly hidden in the island's ancient ruin. He is a Star Driver and is directly opposing the Holy Order of Glittering Stars (aka Kiraboshi) to protect Wako from them.
Voiced by: Mamoru Miyano
- Alliterative Name
- Attack Drone: Tauburn has a few of them, though in this case they're named 'Piles'.
- Badass: Very, very badass.
- Bare Your Midriff: When he's not in his school uniform or in Ginga Bishounen mode, this is his default outfit.
- Betty and Veronica: The Veronica to Sugata's Betty.
- Bishounen: He is the Galactic Pretty Boy, after all.
- Bling of War: Pilots the Tauburn in what amounts to a pimped-out military dress uniform.
- Camp Straight: Very, very camp.
- Calling the Old Man Out: His entire purpose for turning up on Southern Cross Isle.
- Catch Phrase: "It's a piiinch!"
- Chick Magnet: Damn near everyone on the island wants him. Including the villains.
- The Chosen One
- Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Generally comes across as a clueless, impulsive idiot... unless he gets into a fight, in which case the FABULOUSNESS of the ensuing beatdown will in no way make it any less painful.
- Curtains Match the Window: Red hair, red eyes.
- Dance Battler: When piloting the Tauburn, even incorporating pirouettes into his combat repertoire.
- Dead Little Sister: Or rather, Dead Best Friend.
- Disappeared Dad: His reason for coming to the island. To more or less give him a good, solid punch to the face. And Lord love him, that's exactly what he does in Episode 23.
- Dual-Wielding: Wields the Star Swords Emeraude and Saphir.
- Expy: His personality is quite a bit like that of Ayato Kamina, but with a bit of Vash the Stampede's goofiness thrown in.
- Generation Xerox: We finally see his grandpa in episode 16, and physically, they're pretty much dead ringers of each other. Ironically he and his dad, Tokio Tsunashi, look less alike than Takuto and his granddad.
- Good Scars/X Marks the Hero: Has an X-shaped scar on his chest, although it's actually the Phoenician letter "taw"
- Henshin Hero
- The Hero
- Heroes Prefer Swords
- Heroic Bastard
- Hidden Depths: The argument Takuto and Sugata had prior to their battle revealed that Takuto may have some issues Beneath the Mask.
- Hot-Blooded
- Idiot Hero
- I Owe You My Life: Towards Wako.
- Large Ham
- Love At First Sight: Implied with Wako.
- Mistaken for Gay: When she first meets him, Kanako thinks that he has fallen for Sugata even though he's actually straight despite his flamboyancy. She apparently tells Head this as well.
- Multicolored Hair: Acquires a large streak of blonde in his hair while piloting the Tauburn.
- Naive Newcomer
- New Transfer Student
- Nice Guy: Almost ridiculously so.
- Obfuscating Stupidity: It has been hinted at several times in the show so far that Takuto knows quite a bit more about what's going on than he lets on.
- Oblivious to Love
- Paralyzing Fear of Sexuality: Tends to wig out at even the slightest suggestion of sexual behavior.
- Parental Abandonment
- Pretty Freeloader: At Sugata's house in ep 18.
- Red Oni
- Redheaded Hero
- Shonen Hair
- Showy Invincible Hero
- Thou Shalt Not Kill: due to his idealistic nature, but it can cause trouble for him to fight with the likes of Madoka
- Unwanted Harem: Though he's more or less oblivious to it.
- Willfully Weak: He only unleashes his New Powers as the Plot Demands when he's really on the ropes. Some of his commentary during those moments are indicative that he could do them all along.
Wako Agemaki
Heroine of the series. A member of the school drama club, "Midnight Flight." She is the South Maiden, who can unlock the seal of Southern Cross Island. She is pursued by the Holy Order of the Glittering Crux.
Voiced by: Saori Hayami
- Arranged Marriage: With Sugata Shindou.
- Barrier Maiden: Keeps the Cybodies from getting off the island so long as her seal isn't broken.
- Betty and Veronica: The Archie.
- Beware the Nice Ones: Even the sweet-natured South Maiden has her limits sometimes. It's advisable not to cross them. Madoka Kei found this out the hard way when she briefly stole Takuto's body. She also puts up a pretty good fight against Head when she gets in her Cybody in Episode 25.
- Berserk Button: Do NOT hurt the people she loves. Especially Takuto or Sugata.
- Big Eater: Gets hungry easily and is never once seen to turn down food or a chance at a meal.
- Brown Eyes
- The Chick
- Closer to Earth
- Covert Pervert: Or, considering both Jaguar and Sarina knew exactly what she was fantasizing about, not quite so covert.
- Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass
- The Cutie
- Break the Cutie: Wako is devastated when Sugata uses his King's Cybody to rescue her, putting himself in a coma in the process. Thankfully, they both recover.
- Damsel in Distress: See MacGuffin Girl.
- Dangerously Genre Savvy: Instantly sees through Madoka's Grand Theft Me trick (even outright saying,"You're a Glittering Crux member using your First Phase to try and screw with me, aren't you?").
- Girl Next Door
- Hair of Gold
- He Is Not My Boyfriend: Denies that there are any "sparks" between Takuto and her, but Everyone Can See It.
- Love At First Sight: Implied with Takuto, in spite of hints that she may also have strong feelings for Sugata.
- Love Hurts: Episode 25 lampshades this, as she bittersweetly wishes she never met Takuto, as she endures the pain of deeply loving both of them.
- MacGuffin Girl: The antagonists constantly try to capture Wako in order to break her South Maiden seal so they can upgrade their Cybodies.
- Meet Cute
- Nice Girl
- Protectorate: To Takuto and Sugata.
- Running Gag:
- Whenever a stomach growl is heard, it's typically coming from Wako.
- Whenever something involving Takuto and Sugata could be interpreted sexually in any way, she imagines it.
- Tareme Eyes
- Tragic Dream: Wako's dream to become a singer in Tokyo. As a Maiden she cannot leave the island unless her seal is broken, and she will not let that happen since it would also unleash the Cybodies on the rest of the world. At the end of episode 4, Takuto vows to destroy all of the Cybodies to give Wako the chance to fulfill her dream.
- Silk Hiding Steel
- Yaoi Fangirl: Has some... interesting fantasies about Takuto and Sugata.
Sugata Shindō
A member of Midnight Flight club along with Wako. He is engaged to Wako, but doesn't seem to mind that Wako takes an interest in Takuto.
Voiced by: Jun Fukuyama
- Absolute Cleavage: His Emperor outfit has a V-neckline that shows off his abs and goes down to where his pubes would be.
- Alliterative Name
- Age-Appropriate Angst: Keep in mind that he's a first-year high school student. And that he's fighting against an evil organization that wants to use the islands secrets for some sort of dastardly scheme. And that he can't leave the island under penalty of death. And that whenever he falls into a deep slumber, Keito has to do something involving getting naked to wake him up... Yeah.
- Ambiguously Gay: He does love and care for Wako, but nowhere has it been shown that this is a romantic love. Also, his professed "curiosity" about Takuto as well as his gay subtext-dripping conversations with Head are signs that are too big to ignore...
- Anti-Hero: Type II.
- Arranged Marriage: With Wako.
- Badass: Oh, yes.
- Betty and Veronica: The Betty to Takuto's Veronica.
- Bishounen
- Blue Oni
- Brown Eyes
- Came Back Wrong: Initially came back as a Type I Soulless Shell until Benio used her First Stage (and Takuto delivering an Armor-Piercing Slap in an attempt to wake Sugata up).
- Deadpan Snarker: Nonchalantly asking if Takuto had his first kiss and saying "he'll do her" in the drama club meeting when Takuto declared he would confront the mysterious girl Hina (aka Okamoto-sensei).
- Driven to Suicide: Takuto seems to imply that he believes Sugata carries a knife around him because he may be contemplating suicide, but Sugata really carries a knife to protect Wako.
- The Eeyore: In episodes 6 and 8.
- Face Heel Turn: Subverted. At the end of episode 7, it seemed like this would be the case, but he was completely unaffected by Benio's first phase and only faught Takuto because he was pissed off.
- He became the Crux's Emperor in episode 23... but subverts the trope again; he only did it to get to Samekh so he could seal it for good.
- Fetish Fuel Station Attendant: Even more popular than Takuto on the internet.
- Heroic Sacrifice: Subverted. It seemed like this would be the case in Episode 6, since nobody has ever awakened after using the King's Pillar as well as Takuto's words at the end, but in Episode 7, we see that he's Not Quite Dead.
- Attempted again in the final episode, but averted yet again thanks to Takuto.
- I Will Protect Her: Towards Wako.
- I Want My Beloved to Be Happy:
- Since he doesn't seem to mind the fact that there's something going on between Takuto and Wako. He will also willingly lay down his life for her, going so far as carrying a knife everywhere he goes to protect her.
- All long he planned to have Samekh sealed--thus, sacrificing himself in the process--and for someone to protect Wako while he's gone.
- The Mentor: To Takuto.
- Nice Guy: It's quite hard to piss Sugata off. When it happens, though... RUN.
- Rebel Leader: Even if he's not the head of the Midnight Flight club himself, everyone on the island seems to consider him head of the local resistance movement.
- Refusal of the Call: Capable of piloting the most powerful Cybody in the series, according to Sarina, but refuses to do so for reasons yet to be revealed. Episode 6 reveals that as the candidate pilot of King Cybody he is forbidden to use it, not only because of the devastating power of his first phase ability, King's Pillar, but activating it would lock him into a coma, just like every other candidate before him. He wakes up right in the following episode, presumably (as of Episode 18) because Keito is keeping his libido active every night.
- Single-Target Sexuality: His complete disregard for Benio after she used her First Phase on him shows that he's incapable of loving anyone... except Wako.
- Supporting Leader: As Enokido puts it, "he'd be the main character of this world if Takuto hadn't come to Southern Cross Island", being the heir to a prominent family and is bonded with the strongest Cybody. He spends time training with Takuto to help the latter become stronger and after some initial frictions, has a lot of faith in Takuto's ability.
- Took a Level in Jerkass: He was a massive dick in episode 8, though probably for good reason. It didn't last.
- Tsurime Eyes
- You Gotta Have Blue Hair
The Order of Glittering Crux
All or most of them provide examples of:
- Affably Evil
- Anime Hair
- Bunny Ears Lawyer: With the exception of Keito, all of the department heads are... eccentric, to say the least. However, they all seem to be extremely competent when it comes to the work done by the Glittering Crux. Except when trying to defeat the Galactic Pretty Boy, at least.
- Cool Mask: Hell, they enable them to pilot Humongous Mecha.
- Fashionable Asymmetry
- Five-Bad Band: The five leaders of their respective divisions.
- Large Ham
- Mildly Military: Just as bad at coordination and discipline between as well as within factions as one would expect from an organisation run primarily by libidinous schoolkids (not that the adults are much better, mind).
- Necessarily Evil: In their eyes.
- Slasher Smile/Psychotic Smirk: Being able to pull off a good one of these is practically a Crux entry requirement.
- Smug Snake: At least before they actually fight Takuto...
- Theme Naming: Each section is a reference to a planet that the titular prince from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's The Little Prince visits.
- Unwitting Pawn: All of them to Head.
Head (Reiji Miyabi, originally Tokio Tsunashi)
Leader of the Vanishing Age section, Head acts as the head of the Glittering Crux while waiting for someone to defeat Takuto and Tauburn to take leadership. Eventually he runs a coup and takes over the Crux himself with support from his branch. He pilots the Cybody Reshbal & later, The Cybody Sinpathy and wields the Star Sword Diamant & Turquoise.
Voiced by: Akira Ishida
- Anything That Moves
- Archnemesis Dad: Takuto is thankfully unaware of this. Or not.
- Attack Drone: His Cybody comes with them.
- Bastard Boyfriend
- Big Bad
- Bishonen: Despite having a teenage son.
- The Casanova: Perfectly willing to seduce anyone, male or female, in order to get what he wants.
- Curtains Match the Window
- Depraved Bisexual: A classic Type 2, seeing sex as just another tool for manipulation.
- Evil Counterpart: Head's Cybody is very similar to Takuto's Tauburn, even using similar weapons like Piles.
- Surprise, surprise, he's Takuto's dad who was passed over for his family's mark.
- Evil Plan/Gambit Roulette: His plan to become a time traveler.
- Hot Dad: He's Takuto's father.
- It's All About Me: In SPADES. Almost to Complete Monster levels. His ultimate plan is to take control of Samekh, power it up to the fullest, and move outside of time so he can relive the "glorious past" forever. This plan requires that the world be destroyed. He doesn't care.
- Lima Syndrome/Stockholm Syndrome: Head and the North Maiden(Sakana-chan).
- Meaningful Name: His Cybody is marked by the letter rēš, which indeed stands for "head". In addition, "Reiji," while figuratively "midnight," literally translates as "Zero Time."
- However, that mark is borrowed, seeing as his father Icaro didn't give him his family's mark.
- Manipulative Bastard
- Older Than They Look: See Hot Dad.
- Also acts as Fridge Brilliance as it indicates his failure to grow as a person. Contrast with his friend Ryousuke Katashiro who physically and mentally aged.
- Orcus on His Throne: Responsible for the Crux's curiously half-hearted approach towards breaking the South Seal and taking down Tauburn. He doesn't want to move until Shingo's woken up and he's received his old lover's mark.
- Pet the Dog: Seems to have a brief one in episode 21, considering his wistful reminiscence of the women in his life, both of whom he lost due to his pursuit of the Cybodies' power.
- Purple Eyes
- "The Reason You Suck" Speech: The last episode had him delivering incredibly short ones to anyone present.
- Shadow Archetype: To his son,Takuto. He's a callous, withdrawn, and thoroughly manipulative Casanova, where our hero is a Hot-Blooded, kind-hearted, and gregarious Chick Magnet. Particularly notable in Episode 20's Whole-Episode Flashback, where we get to see how he managed to comprehensively wreck his own set of Three Amigos.
- Star-Crossed Lovers: With the North Maiden.
- Also with Sora, aka Takuto's mother.
- "Well Done, Son" Guy: His father refuses to give him the Tau mark, and he becomes obsessed with Cybody's power
- You Gotta Have Purple Hair
- Bizarre hair color seems to run in the family.
Kanako Watanabe
Takuto's married classmate and member of the Glittering Crux Brigade under the name, "the President." She's in charge of the Adult Bank, with her section providing most of the monetary funds for the Crux. Her Cybody is Betraida.
Voiced by: Ayano Niina
- Affably Evil
- Ahoge
- Anti-Villain
- Artistic Age: She looks like she's in her late twenties or early thirties. She's actually fifteen.
- Badass Adorable: Air-headed lonely rich girl? Think again. Her skill in the boxing ring more than proves that she's capable of handling herself in a fight.
- Bi the Way: Has a history with Madoka. Unsurprisingly, it didn't end well.
- Brown Eyes
- Brutal Honesty: Bluntly states that her marriage is based on her husband being a Dirty Old Man and her being a greedy Gold Digger.
- Crazy Prepared: We learn in Episode 24 that she doesn't have a yacht just to show off how rich she is; it's supposed to be an escape vessel for all the islanders in case the volcanoes connected to Zero Time erupt. Simone and Takeshi are reasonably impressed.
- Dark Action Girl: She's got a mean straight in the boxing ring.
- Deadpan Snarker
- Do Unto Others Before They Do Unto Us: Wants to seize the Cybodies for her own section in order to control them, since she believes their release is inevitable.
- Hair Decorations
- Fetish Fuel Station Attendant: Startlingly attractive? Check. Large, bouncy breasts? Check. No-nonsense personality (at least in her Crux form)? Check. Incredibly strong with a straight punch that can knock almost anyone out in one hit? Check, check, and another check. Outfit strangely resembling bondage gear, complete with Nice Hat? You guessed it: check. A WHIP? DING DING DING.
- Gold Digger: As Kanako puts it, her marriage is held together "by the unbreakable bonds of greed."
- Heel Face Turn
- Hidden Depths: You definitely wouldn't think Badass 'World-Champion Boxer' the first time seeing her.
- It Amused Me: When Simone asked her why she helped her recover from the accident by approivising her Cybody and pretended not to know that "Simone" was only pretending to be loyal as part of a scheme to strike at her illegitimate father's new wife, Kanako responded with this trope. This trope covers pretty much everything else she does in the series.
- Jerkass: Played for Laughs.
- Boobs of Steel: Having one of the largest bust sizes in the cast has paid off well for her -- she's an expert Star Driver and champion-level boxer.
- Gag Boobs
- Gainaxing
- Big Breasts, Big Deal: Type IV.
- Ms. Fanservice
- Mundane Utility: She speculates that her first phase may be her beauty and business sense.
- Necessarily Evil: Her perspective on the Crux's actions - as she sees it, any action is justified in order to preserve the world and regulate the vast power of the Cybodies, no matter how personally regrettable it might be.
- Obfuscating Stupidity: Comes across as the biggest floozy who ever lived... until you realize how competent she really is.
- Pet the Dog: She apprivoised to heal Simone's coma, brought on by an accident, and then took her on as a maid even though she knew Simone had ulterior motives in doing so. While the manner of the act is questionable (see It Amused Me), it does not change the fact that (a) it was a good thing to do that (b) Kanako didn't have to do, but (c) did anyway at personal cost.
- Rule 34: And HOW!
- The Tease
- Whip It Good
- Wise Beyond Their Years: From the way she acts, it can be hard to believe that she still attends high school.
- You Gotta Have Green Hair
Keito Nichi
Leader of Bouganville under the name "Ivrogne," Keito holds a secret that most of the Crux doesn't know. She is really the East Maiden, whose seal the Crux has to break in order to release the next phase for the Cybodies.
Voiced by: Ami Koshimizu
- Affably Evil: Seems like a nice enough girl, although...
- Barrier Maiden
- Class Representative
- Deadpan Snarker: Mostly aimed towards Kanako, whose constant flirting she has a front-row seat to in class.
- Dogged Nice Girl: For Sugata.
- From a Certain Point of View: Her offer to Mizuno that she would help the latter to leave the island.
- Jerkass/Manipulative Bitch: Her profile says that she wants to gain as much satisfaction as she can from leading Takuto along and subsequently breaking him emotionally.
- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She certainly doesn't SEEM that bad...
- From an official pamphlet outlining the series: "Her main characteristic is her two-faced personality: normally she's an honors student, but really she's a bitch."
- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She certainly doesn't SEEM that bad...
- Kuudere: Based on her interaction with Sugata.
- Love Makes You Evil: The reason for her entire involverment with the crux is because she's the odd one out in Sugata's love triangle.
- Mad Scientist: Runs the Crux's tech division, and does a fair amount of experimentation in her spare time, as well. Needless to say, little of it is the sort of thing one would ordinarily study in a mainstream lab.
- Meaningful Name: Her moniker, 'Ivrogne', in another instance of Gratuitous French, translates into 'drunkard', and she's certainly handy with her potions...
- Meganekko
- My God, What Have I Done?: When she realizes that she's just handed over the most powerful cybody to Head and has sentenced Sugata to a life of slavery... or death by Heroic Sacrifice.
- Not So Above It All: In Episode 18, when Takuto shows her the picture of Keito and Wako playing model as children, she dismisses it as ancient history and describes Wako's dream of being an idol as childish. One scene later, turns out not so much. See also Hypocritical Humor.
- Out-Gambitted: Her plan was to trick the Crux and Head into setting things up for Sugata to achieve Samekh's power and rule the world. Too bad Head had predicted that and made it a vital part of his plan.
- The Rival: To Wako, in a serious way.
- Scary Shiny Glasses
- She's Got Legs: Her uniform and certain angles have placed quite a bit of emphasis on them.
- Tall, Dark and Bishoujo
- Unlucky Childhood Friend
Benio Shinada
Campus Resident Advisor and member of the Glittering Crux Brigade under the name, "Scarlet Kiss." Benio leads the section called Filament. She pilots Peshent and owns the Star Sword Rubis.
Voiced by: Chiemi Chiba
- Anti-Villain
- Badass: She's a Kendo champion. Who knew?
- The Dark Chick
- Flash Step: Her signature move consists of using these to get behind her opponent in the blink of an eye.
- Girlish Pigtails
- Heel Face Turn
- Hopeless Suitor: For Sugata.
- In the Blood: Like all members of Filament she comes from a marked bloodline that has lost its power.
- Jerkass
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She may wish to restore her lineage, but in the end, just like the other members of Filament, was unable to turn her back on the destruction of the world or her friendship with Takuto.
- Meaningful Name: Her Cybody is marked by the letter pē, which stands for "mouth". It matches her Crux nickname and her ability to control people by kissing them.
- Older Than They Look: Looks a bit younger than the rest of the cast, though Word of God confirms she's sixteen.
- Rose-Haired Girl
- Stealth Hi Bye: Another thing she's fond of using her ludicrous speed for, especially on Takuto, in guys' bath.
- The Unchosen One: Wants to restore the honor of her family as Star Drivers (or, less charitably, be seen as a worthy suitor to Sugata). In either case, she's deadly serious about it, forming Filament as a sort of department of Screw Destiny.
- Token Mini-Moe: Or rather, she looks like one despite Word of God confirming that she's older than most of the cast at 16.
- Tsundere
Midori Okamoto
Leader of the Crux's Science Guild, she is also known as Professor Green. She's the school nurse and owner of the Cybody Yoddock.
Voiced by: Houko Kuwashima
- Affably Evil
- Christmas Cake
- Combat Clairvoyance: Yoddock's Precog Mode.
- Covert Pervert: At least she tries to be covert about it (see Failed a Spot Check).
- Distracted by the Sexy: How she loses to Takuto.
- Really, you can't even call it 'distracted', she pretty much makes a conscious decision to turn off her precognition to better ogle Takuto, and didn't even notice that his sexy poses were the set-up for his Finishing Move.
- Ditzy Genius: She's Professor Green, the leader of the Science Guild division of the Glittering Crux, and is a great Star Driver, but she's reduced to nothing more than a squee-ing mess when attractive young males come into the picture.
- Failed a Spot Check: Goes to great lengths to hide her 'Pretty Boy Album', but neglects to do anything about the wall of Bishonen posters adorning her office.
- Fatal Flaw: Her unhealthy attraction to high school boys was her downfall.
- Genius Ditz
- Heel Face Turn
- Hot for Student: Only interested in high school boys.
- Mad Scientist: Leader of an entire branch of them, and responsible for such exploits as warping the time/space continuum in order to pick up teenage boys.
- May-December Romance: As of the eighth episode, she's shown to be in an actual relationship with Tsubasa, one of her former patients.
- Meganekko: In her normal appearance and when she was originally in schools. When she uses her powers to turn into 'Hina' she apparently decided that The Glasses Gotta Go.
- Mundane Utility / Power Perversion Potential: She's a member of an Evil Organization based on world domination and has the power to warp time and space and what does she do? She turns herself into a teenager to form a Bishonen harem of course!
- Plot Tailored to the Party: Lampshaded by Keito. The Mandrake Love Potion only works for teenagers but at the same time is fatal to teenagers, meaning Midori with her age changing powers is the only one who can make any use of it.
- School Nurse
- Time Master: Stated. In reality the only applications of this power we've seen are limited precognition and turning her body back into that of a teenager.
- Underboobs: In her Crux outfit.
Takeo Takumi
Known as Sword Star of Vanishing Age. His Cybody is Zayinth which wields the Star Sword Grenat. After Head's coup, it's revealed he has a true mark.
Voiced by: Yuuki Kaji
- Alliterative Name
- Black Eyes
- Crazy Jealous Guy
- Energy Ball
- Eyes Always Shut
- Hellish Pupils
- Hopeless Suitor: For Marino, who has her eyes towards Takuto.
- Lethal Harmless Powers: The telekinesis that his first phase grants him doesn't really let him do much more than slightly redirect a ball in flight. Then you find out that his Cybody is capable of projecting a considerable number of deadly Energy Balls...
- Mundane Utility: His first phase lets him play a mean game of baseball.
- Slasher Smile
Ginta Ryou
A rather callous, self-centred Vanishing Age Star Driver codenamed 'Camel Star' who resents his organisation's continued lack of progression to the fourth phase and the invasion of the real world, creating considerable friction with his leader, Head. Like the rest of his faction, has a true mark that allows him to pilot Cybodies in the third phase.
Voiced by: Ryohei Kimura
- The Beast Master: His First Phase allows him to control animals.
- Combat Pragmatist
- Detachment Combat: His Cybody's backpack can split off into a gigantic mechanical spider which he can control remotely.
- Power Perversion Potential: Quite willing to spy on Maidens undergoing purification rituals through the eyes of his animals.
- Surrounded by Idiots: He literally says this about his situation in Crux. See Why Don't Ya Just Shoot Him.
- Why Don't Ya Just Shoot Him: He wonders the same thing as the audience about the Crux's half-hearted approach to the whole Tauburn business and deals with Takuto very efficiently. He would have been able to break Wako's seal had it not been for Kou's intervention.
Madoka Kei
Known as Window Star, she's a member of the Adult Bank until switching to Vanishing Age after the Crux reaches phase three. She pilots the Cybody Hegent and has the Star Sword Perle.
Voiced by: Yukana
- Adult Child: has dashes of this. She uses third person to refer to herself and wants to be entertained constantly
- Ax Crazy: Has a nasty habit of confronting people for little reason other than that she feels bored, and has difficulty seeing any difference between, say, a competitive volleyball match and going after an enemy outside of school with a Star Sword.
- Catch Phrase: "How exciting!"
- Cute and Psycho
- Depraved Bisexual: Willing to go for just about anyone, and prepared to use some rather... disturbing methods to accomplish it.
- Early-Bird Cameo: Back in episode three, with Kou.
- Graceful Loser Proved she can be one, surprisingly enough, in Episode 21.
- Godiva Hair: In episode 19, unsurprisingly enough.
- Interplay of Sex and Violence: Even when you consider that it involves playing around with awesome giant robots in a Scenery Porn-eriffic alternate reality, she enjoys Cybody combat way too much. Episode 21 nearly took it Up to Eleven.
- It Amused Me: Volleyball competition? Exciting! Giant robot battle? Exciting! Potentially lapsing into a coma and dying? Exciting!
- Lipstick Lesbian
- The Ojou
- Orgasmic Combat: She spends all of episode 21's fight on the knife's-edge of climaxing, if her panting and tone are anything to go by.
- Princess Curls: With the imperious personality to match.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: With Kou. She's an energetic and somewhat bloodthirsty red.
- Those Two Bad Guys: With Kou.
- Tomboy and Girly Girl: The girly girl to Kou's Tomboy. Her psychological state seems to make her more of a threat to others, however.
- Wild Card: Far too unpredictably psychotic to reliably be on anyone's side - the Crux are already starting to have second thoughts about bringing her in to deal with Takuto.
Kou Atari
A member of Adult Bank under the name Needle Star. As a true mark holder, she switches to Vanishing Age once the Crux reaches the third stage.
Voiced by: Mitsuki Saiga
- Bifauxnen
- Butch Lesbian
- Early-Bird Cameo: Back in episode three, with Madoka.
- Grand Theft Me: Her first phase.
- Morality Pet: Astonishingly, Madoka serves as hers - at least, enough for her to stop Wako's seal getting broken because her partner's Cybody wasn't sufficiently repaired to hold out against the inevitable international counterattack when the mechs emerged into the real world.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: With Madoka. She's the calm one.
- Those Two Bad Guys: With Madoka.
- Tomboy and Girly Girl: The tomboy to Madoka's girly girl. As dangerous as Madoka, if not as...excitable.
- Transforming Mecha
- Villainous Rescue: Sabotaged Camel Star's attempt to break the South Seal in order to protect Madoka.
- Wild Card: Only really cares about Madoka's wellbeing. Everything else, including the overarching goals of the Crux's various factions, is strictly optional.
Simone Aragon Pamela Watanabe
Member of the Adult Bank, Simone is Kanako's servant in the Crux and in her "civilian" job also. Codenamed Secretary, she is the pilot of the Cybody Daletos.
Voiced by: Ayana Taketatsu
- Anti-Villain
- Blondes Are Evil
- Blue Eyes
- Disappeared Dad: In a way. Leon Watanabe, Kanako's husband, is Simone's real father, and Simone herself didn't know the circumstances of her birth until one year before the events of the series. And even currently, despite her knowing, nothing indicates that she sees him regularly.
- The Dragon: Kanako's personal example, at least, being her 'secretary', though she may have motives of her own if the third episode indicates anything.
- Heel Face Turn
- Meaningful Name: Her actual name, Pamela, often intended to mean 'all sweetness', deliberately contrasting with the hatred she feels towards Kanako underneath her facade of politeness...until episode 11, anyway.
- Phenotype Stereotype: Judging from her conversation in the background with Kanako's husband in the third episode, it appears as though she's French.
- Tsundere: Toward Kanako past episode 11, whom she refuses to admit that she actually likes.
- Unresolved Sexual Tension: As of the eleventh episode, some people certainly do believe a fair bit of this exists between her and Takashi.
Takashi Dai
A member of the kendo club, Takashi is also known as Banker. He works a Kanako's servant in the Adult Bank and his civilian life like Simone. He pilots the Cybody Tzadikt and controls the Star Sword Amethyste. After the cybercasket is destroyed and only true mark users can approvise, Takashi transfer to Vanishing Age as he also has a true mark.
Voiced by: Kenji Akabane
- Ahoge
- Battle Butler: Is this in a way to Kanako; he works under her, often seen by her side, and is a skilled swordsman.
- Curtains Match the Window
- Defector From Decadence: Quit Vanishing Age after realising exactly what sort of nutbags he was now sharing a clubroom with.
- Hey, It's That Voice!: It appears as though Kabuto Kouji has transformed into a masked swordsman.
- Heel Face Turn
- The Rival: Played with towards Takuto, particularly in the beginning.
Mami Yano
Also known as Undine, member of Bouganville. She pilots the Cybody Kaphrat.
Voiced by: Chiwa Saito
- Brown Eyes
- Fan Nickname: Freckles
- Meaningful Name: Her alias is "Undine". Undines are mythological water nymphs, and Mami makes a living as a shell-diver.
- Of the People: Notably less extreme than several other examples of the trope, but she still hates outsiders, especially since one of them is the source of all their problems.
- Psychic Powers: Can summon a humanoid entity called the "Mermaidoll", which she can control from afar by thought. However, despite being a potent weapon, it also has its drawbacks; Nichi tells her she hasn't perfected it yet, and the Mermaidoll is prone to going out of control.
George Honda
The member of Filament known as Raging Bull. George is also a member of the school's boxing club and is constantly seen working out. His Cybody is Alephist, which resembles his Crux name.
Voiced by: Shun Takagi
- Boisterous Bruiser
- Butt Monkey: Seems to fill this role rather well. If getting it handed to him by Tauburn didn't qualify him, getting 2 punch knocked out by Kanako probably did.
- Curb Stomp Battle: Versus Takuto and then Kanako. Poor dude still hasn't recovered from the shock.
- Delinquent
- Heel Face Turn
- Hot-Blooded
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Both he and Tetsuya, although they started out as die-hard Crux members, find themselves more and more conflicted about their actions in the Crux and their view of Takuto, who, while an enemy, is also a dorm-mate and friend. And, when Head reveals his master plan and tries to kill Takuto, they find they can't allow it and assist Takuto.
- Shout-Out: A boxer named Raging Bull?
- You Gotta Have Green Hair
Tetsuya Gōda
Another member of Filament, Tetsuya is also known as Speed Kid. Owner of the Cybody Tetrioht, who turns into a motorcycle.
Voiced by: Ooki Sugiyama
- Cool Bike: Has one. Tetrioht can become one.
- Delinquent
- Heel Face Turn
- Jerkass
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: For the same reasons as George.
- Virgin Power: Lampshaded.
- You Gotta Have Blue Hair

Voiced by: Ryo Hirohashi
- Artificial Human
- Big Sister Instinct

- Hime Cut
- I Will Protect Her: Towards Mizuno.
- Large Ham: In her Crux persona, in a striking contrast to her usual Silk Hiding Steel behaviours.
- Morality Pet: Mizuno.
- Parental Abandonment: See Mizuno's entry. Marino was created by Mizuno to help her cope with loneliness after her mom left her.
- Tomato in the Mirror: Marino is a clone created by Mizuno's first phase.
- Silk Hiding Steel
- You Gotta Have Pink Hair
Ryousuke Katashiro
A middle-aged man who is often seen by Head's side. He opens the meetings of the Crux and seems to be in charge of Vanishing Age when Head is not around. He is the original owner of the rēš mark and has already been involved in the research of the underground ruins even before Head came to the island.
Voiced by: Shinichiro Miki
- Brainy Brunette
- Eyepatch of Power
- Eye Scream: He took out his left eye to avoid seeing the affair between Head and his fiancee Sora
- Face of a Thug: When he was younger.
- Kuudere: Backfired horribly for him. His fiancee Sora did not realize that he reciprocated her love and fell for Tokio a.k.a. Head instead.
- Love Hurts
- Love Martyr: Still helps out Head despite all the crap the guy put him through.
- Red Herring: He's the only guy in the show who seems the right age to be Takuto's father.
- X-Ray Vision: His first phase. Until he clawed out his eye to stop himself from seeing things with it, anyway.
Professor Silver
One of the oldest members of the Order, currently working for the Science Guild under Professor Green. Had a hand in designing much of the Crux's technology, including the Cybercasket and the Overphase System.
- Mad Scientist
- Morally-Ambiguous Doctorate: Well, professorship.
Shingo Makiba
A youthful-looking man, currently in a coma. First seen at the hospital when Head comes to visit in episode 17, where his condition seems to be heavily monitored. In Katashiro's flashback, it's shown that Shingo is the bearer of the Šin mark, a mark he had meant to pass on to Head. Head supposedly seduced Shingo for this very purpose, hungry to pursue the power of the Cybodies. However, before he could give Head the Šin mark, Shingo fell into a comatose state for a reason and manner so far unexplained, and now, Head and the research division are watching his vital signs carefully, as it seems that he is resurfacing from the deep sleep he was trapped in.
Voiced by: Shintaro Asanuma
- Bishounen: To the point of Dude Looks Like a Lady. He first appears as a comatose patient with a sheet more or less covering him, making more than a few people have to rewind to verify his maleness. It becomes clear when we see his flat, shirt-hugging chest. Or to some, hear his voice.
- Convenient Coma
- Flamboyant Gay: As much as is observable in his so far short appearances, by way of his fashionable look and airy and husky speech pattern. That blush and that touching almost MORE than confirms the nature of your relationship with Head, Shingo.
- Gundamjack: The power of his Cybody, and the reason Head wants his mark so badly.
- Long-Haired Pretty Boy
- Love Martyr: Appears to care deeply for Head, despite the fact that the other man is clearly only interested in him for his mark.
