As sections of the route are yet to be fully electrified, a Ghaziabad based WAP 4 or WAP 5[3] hauls the locomotive from Amritsar Junction until Old Delhi handing over to a Lucknow or Tughlakabad based WDM 3A[4] which powers the train for the remainder of its journey.
