It operates as train number 13009 from Howrah Junction to Dehradun and as train number 13010 in the reverse direction serving the state of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh & Uttarakhand and is one of two trains that connect Howrah & Dehradun, the other train being the 12327 / 28 Upasana Express.

Traction
As the route is partially electrified, it is hauled by a Mughalsarai based WAP 4 from Howrah junction to Mughalsarai junction, then a Gonda-based WDP4D hauls the train up to its destination.
Timings
13009 Howrah Dehradun Doon Express leaves Howrah Junction on a daily basis at 20:30 hrs IST and reaches Dehradun at 07:25 hrs IST on the 3rd day.
13010 Dehradun Howrah Doon Express leaves Dehradun on a daily basis at 20:25 hrs IST and reaches Howrah Junction at 06:55 hrs IST on the 3rd day.
Accidents
On 31 May 2012, 5 people died and 50 were injured when the train derailed at Mahrawa station.[1]
On 28 April 2014, the Doon Express derailed close to Zafarganj Station near Ambedkar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh killing 3 and injuring 6 people.
