Bensham has a mixture of homes. These include different styles of houses built between the late 1890s and 1980s.
The Bensham railway station operated here from its opening in 1868 to its closure in 1954.[2][3]
Community
Like nearby Saltwell, Bensham is home to a sizeable community of Orthodox Haredi Jews, with several hundred Jewish families and the Gateshead Talmudical College, founded in 1929, the largest yeshiva for Jewish education in Europe, which has earned Bensham the nickname "Little Jerusalem" by locals.[4]
