Tropes used in Angel/Recap/S05/E18 Origin include:
- The Atoner: Gunn
- Chekhov's Gunman: Demon warrior Sahjhan, the Big Bad from Season 3.
- Deal with the Devil: Gunn rejects Hamilton's offer to release him in exchange for his soul.
- Fantastically Indifferent: Angel tells Connor the spectacular truth about the supernatural world. Connor doesn't seem fazed.
- I Just Want to Be Normal: When Connor gets back his real memories, he can't get back to his new, normal life fast enough.
- I Was Just Joking, Round #1:
Connor: I told him that you took me out demon fighting and, uh, almost got me killed. He wants to have a talk with you.
Angel: All right. I'll, uh-.
Connor: I'm kidding! Man,... you gotta lighten up.
- My Sensors Indicate You Want to Tap That: When Illyria meets Connor for the first time, she comments that "This one is lusting after me." Which led to one of the funnier lines of the fifth season, when Connor tells Angel that he's "always had a thing for older women"; Angel mutters "They were supposed to fix that."
- Nice Job Breaking It, Herod: Sahjhan's manipulations in Season 3 were responsible for Connor being Badass enough to kill him.
- Reality Warper: Cyvus Vail.
- Sealed Evil in an Urn
