List of Parkruns in the United Kingdom

This is a list of Parkruns in the United Kingdom[1][2][3][4][5] and the Channel Islands. Parkrun is the name given to the collection of 5K runs that take place every Saturday morning in 725[6] different locations throughout the country, including every region of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Events take place in a range of general locations including city parks, country parks, national parks, stately homes, castles, forests, rivers, lakes, reservoirs, beaches, promenades, racecourses and nature reserves. The runs are all 5 km in length but have different degrees of difficulty,[7] with hilly runs, for instance at Lyme Park, harder to complete than those that are flat like the one at Kingsbury Water Park. The running surfaces vary: many city park Parkruns are run on tarmac footpaths, closed roads, grass or a mixture of all three, while forest and country park Parkruns are more likely to be on trails. The weather affects the difficulty of the course, with trail runs more liable to be affected by mud or leaves than runs on tarmac paths. Since Parkrun began 2,152,618 runners have run a combined distance of 151,842,770 km.[6] The highest ever attendance is 2,545 at Bushy Parkrun[8] with an average attendance across all Parkruns of 206.[9]

Channel Islands

The Bailiwick of Guernsey and the Bailiwick of Jersey are the two Crown dependencies that administer the Channel Islands, an archipelago in the English Channel, off the French coast, with a total population of 164,000 and an area of 198 km² (76 sq mi). There are two Parkruns: one in Jersey, and one in Guernsey.

East Midlands

The East Midlands is one of nine official regions of England, and has an area of 15,627 km² (6,034 sq mi), and was home to over 4.5 million people in 2011. There are five principal urban centres, Derby, Leicester, Lincoln, Northampton and Nottingham, and a number of next tier centres. There are 38 Parkruns in the region.

East of England

The East of England is one of nine official regions of England with a population of nearly 5.5 million in 2011. It includes the ceremonial counties of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. There are 77 parkruns in the region.

Gorleston Parkrun was the first Parkrun to be set up in the region. The course is along the sea front and is mostly flat apart from a short and steep hill from the lower promenade to the upper promenade.[49] The 500th event at Gorleston Parkrun was held on 1 December 2018 and 349 attended.[50]

North East England

North East England is one of nine official regions of England; it covers Northumberland, County Durham, Tyne and Wear, and the area of the former county of Cleveland. The region is home to three large conurbations: Teesside, Wearside, and Tyneside, the last of which is the largest of the three. The region had a population of 2.6 million in 2011 and an area of 300 km². There are 25 Parkruns in the region, with Hartlepool judged the fastest[79] and South Shields the most scenic by the Claremont Road Runners.[79]

North West England

North West England is one of nine official regions of England, it consists of the five ceremonial counties Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside and had a population of 7,052,000 in 2011. The region has 64 parkruns and contains the country's slowest course, Millom parkrun, with an average run time of 35 minutes 39 seconds[89] and hilliest, Whinlatter Forest parkrun, with total climb and descent of 674 ft.[90]
