Critically acclaimed films
- Matir Moina (The Clay Bird) - Directed by Tareque Masud. At the 2002 Cannes Film Festival, the film won the International Critics' Prize and the FIPRESCI Prize for Directors' Fortnight. It also won a number of other international film festival awards and was Bangladesh's first submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
- Aamar Bhuban - Directed by Mrinal Sen and starring Nandita Das. At the Cairo International Film Festival, the film won Best Director for Sen and Best Actress for Das, while the film itself was nominated for the Golden Pyramid for Best Film.
- Mr. and Mrs. Iyer - Directed by Aparna Sen, and starring Rahul Bose and Konkona Sen Sharma. At the Locarno International Film Festival, the film was nominated for Best Film, won the NETPAC Award, and was runner-up for the Youth Jury Award. It also won a number of other international film festival awards, including Best Film at the Hawaii International Film Festival.
- Subho Mahurat-Directed by Rituparno Ghosh, and starring Raakhee, Sharmila Tagore, Nandiita Das. The film won National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Bengali and Raakhee won National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress.
