Kakogawa, Hyōgo

Kakogawa (加古川市, Kakogawa-shi) is a city located in Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan. The city was founded on June 15, 1950. It is located near the point where the Kako River flows into the Seto Inland Sea.

As of September 1, 2016, the city has an estimated population of 266,433 and a population density of 1,923.98 persons per km². The total area is 138.51 km².

The city offers easy access to Himeji (about 10 minutes), Kobe (about 30 minutes) and Osaka (about 50 minutes) by JR Line.

The city currently has a sister city relationship with Maringá, in Brazil, and Auckland, in New Zealand.

  • Kakurin-ji - Taishidō was completed in 1112, and Main Hall was completed in 1397. Both are National Treasures of Japan.

Special Dishes

Katsumeshi is a specialty of Kakogawa. The dish is essentially a beef cutlet served on top of plate of rice with demi-glace sauce.
