Don Wee


Don Wee Boon Hong is a Singaporean politician who has been elected into the 14th Parliament of Singapore with 2020 Singaporean general election. A member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), he has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Chua Chu Kang GRC for Brickland since July 2020.

Education

Don Wee was educated in Nan Hua High School before graduating from Ngee Ann Polytechnic.[1] After National Service, Wee acquired an accounting degree after some years of part-time study. Wee was then qualified as a chartered accountant, and subsequently completed two master's programmes, including a Master in Public Administration from Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.[1]Don had also attended Executive Education at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. He is a Chartered Accountant (Singapore), Fellow Certified Practising Accountant (CPA Australia) and ASEAN Chartered Professional Accountant. Don had also completed the Chartered Valuer & Appraiser Programme in 2018.

Career

Don Wee joined a local bank as a non-executive staff after his National Service stint.[1] In 2020, Wee was reportedly a senior vice-president at United Overseas Bank.[1] Wee is also a member of Institute of Mental Health's Visitors' Board.[1]Don is also serving in Nan Hua High School's School Advisory Committee and doing pro bono work with the Office of Public Guardian. Don was elected into the Council of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants in May 2019. Don had worked with HSBC, OCBC, Citibank and Overseas Union Bank between end 1998 to 2018. Don held the rank of Captain when he was serving his National Service as an Armour officer.

Politics

Don Wee was fielded in 2020 Singaporean general election to contest in Chua Chu Kang Group Representation Constituency (GRC) on People's Action Party's ticket against Progress Singapore Party.[2] Wee's running mates were Gan Kim Yong, Low Yen Ling, Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim.[2] On 11 July 2020, Wee was declared to be elected to represent Chua Chu Kang GRC in the 14th Parliament of Singapore, garnering 58.64% of the valid votes.[3]
