History

It was launched on 21 July 2008 by Viacom 18 under then Chief Executive Officer Rajesh Kamat.[4]

Reception

In less than a year, series like Balika Vadhu, Uttaran, Bigg Boss 2 and Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi helped the channel to pass the decade-old market-leader Star Plus in weekly Gross Rating Points (GRPs).[5][6]

Programming

The channel has featured a number of shows, such as Comedy Nights with Kapil, Balika Vadhu, Madhubala - Ek Ishq Ek Junoon, Uttaran, Udaan, Rangrasiya, Sasural Simar Ka, and Bigg Boss.

Colors HD

Colors HD was added in 24 October 2011 by various MSO & DTH Operators in India and Nepal including Dish Home (Nepal), Asianet Digital TV, DishTV, Airtel digital TV,[7] Videocon d2h and Tata Sky.[8] Hathway digital cable also provides Colors HD.[9]

International

On 21 January 2010, Colors became available on Dish Network in the U.S., where it is called Aapka Colors (Your Colors) to avoid confusion with now-defunct Colours TV.[10][11]Amitabh Bachchan served as brand ambassador for the UK and USA launches.[12]

Colors launched in the United Kingdom and Ireland on Sky on 25 January 2010.[13][14] On 9 December 2009, INX Media confirmed that Colors had bought 9XM's Sky EPG slot on channel 829 and on 5 January 2010, Colors secured a deal to join the ViewAsia subscription package.[15][16] Initially the channel was available free-to-air and then subsequently was added to the ViewAsia package on 19 April 2010.[17] Colors was added to Virgin Media on 1 April 2011, as a part of the Asian Mela pack.[18] On 2 September 2013, Colors left the ViewAsia package and became free-to-air on satellite again, as well as moving to Virgin's basic package.[19]

gollark: Do I just have to check for all users being out of it?
gollark: Hmmmm, how do I know when a channel ceases to exist/becomes antimemetic/metaapiarizes?
gollark: ¡¡¡
gollark: It knows how many people are on and what channels there are and which servers exist, so it would be entirely reasonable for it to serve prometheus metrics.
gollark: I *could* actually make this take over the duties of the ircd-exporter, actually!
