Bangladesh Railway Class 6100

Bangladesh Railway Class 6100 (BEM 20) is a class of broad-gauge diesel-electric locomotives owned by Bangladesh Railway.[1][2][3] They are the second broad-gauge diesel locomotives of Bangladesh after Class 6000. They are similar to Class 6000 locomotives made by ALCo. They were the most powerful locomotives of Bangladesh of that time, along with Class 6000, before the arrival of Class 6300 and Class 6400.

Details

A total of 16 locomotives were manufactured by MLW in 1965 and are numbered 6101–6016. They are classified as BEM 20, where B = Broad gauge, E = Diesel-Electric, M = MLW and 20 = 20*100 hp.[4][5] Currently 14 of them are in running condition. 6100 Class locomotives are diesel-electric hood-unit locomotives modeled ALCo DL543-RSD 34.[6] They have a power of 2000 bhp with ALCo 4 stroke 12-251C prime mover with maximum speed of 106 km/h.

Performance

Class 6100 locomotives are one of the most successful locomotives of Bangladesh Railway, performing excellently in hauling both freight and passenger trains. Initially, they were used on most long-distance mail and inter-city trains, though now they are mostly used in local and short-commuter trains.

gollark: Could you test? I want to know if I should abandon all hope or not.
gollark: Does it just not work on postgres somehow?
