Hirmina Verginix

Hirmina Verginix (née Lintrax) was the wife of Wind Jackal, with whom she had six sons: Lucius, Centix, Murix, Pellius, Martilius, and Quintinius.

Biography

Hirmina Verginix was born into the Lintrax family, and went on to marry Orlis Verginix, a wealthy sky pirate captain, who went by the name Wind Jackal. A year after their marriage, their first son, Lucius, was born. This was followed by the births of five more sons: Centix, Murix, Pellius, Martilius and Quintinius. After the birth of Quint, in 0 ᴇ.ʏ., they moved into an opulent palace in the Western Quays.

Three years after moving into the palace, they had a mural painted a wall of the palace, showing the whole family. Later that year, Wind Jackal's quartermaster, Turbot Smeal, exacted vengeance on his captain by burning their palace down, starting the Great Fire of the Western Quays. Hirmina, her five eldest sons and their nanny all perished, with the only survivors being Quint, who escaped over the rooftops; and Wind Jackal, who was away at the time.[1]

Personality and traits

She was tall and elegant[2], and cared for her children well. She was also a talented cook: her son Quint had fond memories of her brewing oakapple cordial for him as a child.[3]

Behind the scenes

Main article: Errors and Inconsistencies in the Edge Chronicles

Hirmina is mentioned by name three times in the series. On the mural in Vox and on the family tree in Freeglader, her name is spelt "Hirmina", however in Clash of the Sky Galleons, it is spelt "Hermina", with an "e". This error was repeated in a Facebook post by Paul Stewart [4] on the origin of Quint's name; she was twice referred to as "Hermina" and once as "Hirmina".
