Tape recorders were often used by the AML crew to secretly record conversations. Their first method of recording was in 1999 using a tape recorder that belonged to Al Luchini. Its first use was when Adam concealed it under his sleeve and recorded a conversation with Liam in his house. Adam revealed to Liam that he was using the tape recorder by exclaming, "I've been recording this whole conversation!" The tape recorder went on to record conversations from games like Magic: The Gathering and Perfect Dark.

In late 2000, Liam also bought a tape recorder, which he used to record his family, and often episodes of Loveline. This early method of recording themselves was an inspiration for the video AML: Hardcore Revolution.
