Eddie Valiant

Actor: Bob Hoskins

Grizzled Private Detective who slipped into alcoholism and developed bitter grudge against Toons after his brother got murdered by one of them when they were investigating a case in Toontown. He is hired to take some dirty pictures about Jessica Rabbit's affair with Marvin Acme, but is pulled into the murder investigation (against his will) after Acme gets murdered and Jessica's husband, Roger is framed for it.

• Action Survivor: His modus operandi to come out of trouble. He's also a smarter version of this.
• The Alcoholic: At the beginning of the movie Eddie Valiant has been an alcoholic since his brother was murdered by a Toon, but he drops the habit by the end.

Police Lieutenant: Didn't you used to be Eddie Valiant? Or did you change your name to "Jack Daniels"?

• Anti-Hero: Cynical alcoholic with a streak of violent tendencies? Definitely Anti-Hero. But he does get better once he stops drinking and by end of the movie, he's a lot nicer.
• Badass Longcoat: A typical private investigator - style trenchcoat.
• Badass Normal: Probably the only one human in among toons with this charateristic. He even manages to kill Judge Doom himself, who is a toon stronger and taller than him, by spreading dip everywhere.
• Circus Brat: Implied. One of his old photos shows himself, his brother, and his father (dressed as a clown) in front of a circus sign, the frame reads "On the road with Dad". His improvised circus act distraction at the end of the movie also supports this.
• Dead Little Sister: While Eddie doesn't blame himself about it, his brother's murder is the reason for his bitter hate towards Toons.
• Deadpan Snarker: Just like a great many Film Noir heroes.
• Defrosting Ice King: He starts as a cold and cynical Private Eye at first, but at the halfway point of the movie he becomes more kind and gentle, especially towards the toons.

• Fantastic Racism: In the beginning of the movie ("I. DONT. WORK. FOR. TOONS!" anyone?), but he gradually regains his faith and trust in Toons through the course of the movie

Judge Doom

He's actually scarier... Like Thissss and now you're scarred for the rest of your natural life

Actor: Christopher Lloyd

The Hanging Judge of LA and Toontown, who thinks that the only way to repress the madness of the Toons is to make them respect the law... or more accurately, fear it. If he has to execute a few on his way to get the message across, so be it. It's later revealed that he himself IS a toon in a rubber mask, and wants to destroy Toontown (and the Toons while he's on it) so he can build a freeway and new city in place of it, thus making himself filthy rich. Ironic while considering that he's a Toon himself or possibly more horrific because he is one. He also killed Marvin Acme, R K Maroon and Teddy Valiant.

• All There in the Manual: According to The Resurrection of Doom (a sequel graphic novel published a year after the movie's release), his real name is Baron Von Rotten, and he was a Toon who frequently played cartoon villains until an accident on the set rendered him thinking he was truly villainous.
• Ambiguously Human

• Ax Crazy: For the most part, a calm, cool, and collected version. Then he goes One-Winged Angel and loses it.
• Badass in a Nice Suit: Wearing completely black (A black fedora, a black trenchcoat), and don't forget the cane which has a sword hidden inside it.

• Bad Boss: He generally slaps the Weasels around
• Big Bad: Of the movie.
• Color Coded for Your Convenience: His entirely gloomy black wardrobe is not the best way to hide his evilness.
• Complete Monster: Where to begin?
• Conspicuous Trenchcoat: Wears one, possibly to hide whatever kind of Toon creature he really is.
• Dangerously Genre Savvy: He knows exactly what makes toons tick, and how to find one who's hiding. Of course, it helps that he himself is a toon.
• Diabolical Mastermind: He wants to melt Toon Town down to make room for an eight-lane freeway.
• Doomy Dooms of Doom: His name, Toons often have adjectives for names.
• The Dreaded: He's genuine feared by any toons, but also by humans.
• Fantastic Racist: Really looks down on toons, even his henchmen, despite (or because of) being one himself..
• Evil Albino: His white skin is menacing.
• Hanging Judge: A scary one.
• Hitler Cam: Most notably during his New Era Speech about the freeway.
• Hoist by His Own Petard: Created "Dip", a concoction of turpentine that could actually kill toons at the slightest touch. At the climax he gets sprayed with it and melted into nothing.
• Knight of Cerebus: The movie always get a darker tone when he's around.
• Knight Templar: Says he's this but he's really a total psychopath.
• Large Ham: Hey, it's Christopher Lloyd after all.
• Lean and Mean: Not exactly lean Until he gets flattened by a steam roller.
• Leitmotif: A dramatic little piece, complete with a For Doom the Bell Tolls.
• Names to Run Away From Really Fast: Doomy Dooms of Doom. Duh.
• A Nazi by Any Other Name: Dresses like a Gestapo agent.
• Nice Hat: A black fedora.
• Nightmare Fuel Station Attendant: Expecially as a toon.
• Not Even Human: He's a Toon and a terrifying hybrid of the two.
• Obviously Evil: Seriously, did anyone NOT immediately know he was the Big Bad the instant he showed up on screen?
• One-Winged Angel: Of the 'behold my true form' version. He's revealed in the final battle to be a Toon and then makes use of his Toon body to beat the tar out of Eddie.
• Psycho in Charge
• Psychotic Smirk: He has this when he melts the poor toon shoe in the dip. The thing is doing intentionally to show how cruel and sadist he and his Weasels are.
  • He then does this near-consistantly once he reveals to be a Toon.
• Red Eyes, Take Warning: His real eyes. Not only are they red, but they briefly turn into daggers, then bulge out and swirl.
• The Reveal: Not only is he the real villain behind all the murders, he's the toon who killed Eddie's brother!.
• Scary Shiny Glasses: A very rare live action version, occurs multiple times in the last third of the movie before The Reveal.
• Screw the Rules, I Make Them
• Sinister Shades: They cover his red, disturbing eyes.
• Slasher Smile: At first he only tends to normally smile evilly, then after revealing his true identity and his real psychopathic nature he finally sports an horrendous one probably thinking of the fun he'll have beating and then killing Eddie.

• The Sociopath: Especially as a Toon.
• The Spook: After being revealed to be a Toon, no one is sure on what he really looked like.
• Sword Cane
• Uncanny Valley: Invoked. Christopher Lloyd was given very pale make-up, was never shown to blink on camera, and has very stiff movements to make the audience feel something is very wrong about Doom.
• Vile Villain Saccharine Show: While the society is morbid with a few laughs at best. Doom is a Knight Templar murderer As well as a nightmare worthy Toon abomination.
• Villainous Breakdown: At the climax of the film, he reveals his true form and goes from a Smug Snake to completely Ax Crazy.
• Visionary Villain: He wanted to erase Toon Town to create a freeway and goes to make an epic speech about it.
• Well-Intentioned Extremist: What he clamis to be. However, needless to say, it's obvious he's actually a sadist sociopath Complete Monster.
• You Are What You Hate: Wants to kill Toons because they're insane, but he's crazier than all of them.

Roger Rabbit

A cartoon star who gets framed for Marvin Acme's murder because his wife Jessica had an affair with him.

• Adult Child.
• Badly-Battered Babysitter: In his cartoons.
• Can't Hold His Liquor: A glass of scotch sends him bouncing around the room like he downed an equal amount of Blazing Inferno Hellfire Sauce, culiminating with an earpiercing squeal that breaks all windows in the victinity: Eddie uses this as a Chekhov's Skill towards the end of the movie.
• Catch Phrase: P-p-p-pleaaaase!
  • "Jumpin' jeepers!"

• Kavorka Man: Not only is he married to quite possibly the hottest toon made, but he seems to be the envy of most Toon females, even Betty Boop. Jessica explains later that it's because he makes her laugh.

Jessica Rabbit

Roger's wife, who has been made into a sex symbol - both in and out of the movie - and seeing what she looks like, it's pretty justified.

• Beware the Nice Ones: Moral ambiguity aside, Jessica is a Nice Girl who just wants to make sure her husband isn't in trouble. Even willing to participate in an affair with Acme, when Maroon threatened to fire Roger. But don't let that fool you, she's got a bad temper and is one of the few Toons to know how to use a gun without any comedic backfire. As proven with the former when she slapped Eddie in the face for his (Unknowingly on his part.) part in Acme's Murder and the latter when she saves Eddie by shooting Doom.

• Going Commando: In the original version of the scene where she gets ejected out of Benny the cab, there were a few frames where it was made clear that Jessica Rabbit wasn't wearing panties. The Toon Patrol

Voiced by: David L. Lander (Smart Ass), Fred Newman (Stupid), June Foray (Wheezy), Charles Fleischer (Greasy and Psycho)

The Quirky Miniboss Squad that Judge Doom hired to catch Roger Rabbit who bear a strong resemblance to the weasels from Disney's The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. Their names are Smart Ass, Greasy, Wheezy, Psycho and Stupid, but you only find that out in scripts.

• All There in the Script: None of their names are spoken in the movie.
• Ambiguously Brown: Greasy, of all the gang, has darkest brown fur.

• Ax Crazy: Most notably Psycho.
• Badass in a Nice Suit: Smart Ass and Greasy.
• Bilingual Bonus: Greasy is Puerto Rican (at least that's his accent) but he curses twice in the movie in Spanish.

• Deadpan Snarker: Smart Ass.
• The Ditz: Stupid.
• The Dragon: Smart Ass to Judge Doom.
• The Dreaded: That explains why Roger Rabbit screams in terror when he sees 'em coming in Eddie Valiant's office before saying "It's the Toon Patrol !!!"

• Giggling Villain: Psycho, when he's not acting like The Hyena.
• Good Smoking, Evil Smoking: Wheezy.
• Go Out with a Smile: All of them, but especially Psychotic Smirk.
• Grotesque Cute: They have a certain appeal despite their behaviour, particularly Psycho - Your Mileage May Vary, but the Patrol's fans mostly seem to think he's adorable.
• Half-Dressed Cartoon Animal: Wheezy, Smart Ass and Stupid wear only shirts, and Psycho only an untied straitjacket. Greasy is the only one who's fully clothed.
• The Hyena: All of them to varying degrees. Doom warns them that one day they're going to die laughing, like their idiot hyena cousins.
• Keet: Psycho.
• Killed Off for Real: They all die of laughing and become animated ghosts. The one who really gets killed off for real is Smart-Ass though, who dies by falling into Dip. He doesn't get a ghost.

• Nice Hat: Greasy and Smart Ass both have fedoras to match their Zoot Suits, Wheezy wears a bowler hat stuffed with cigarettes, and Stupid wears a beanie.
• Not-So-Harmless Villain: They act like the typical incompetent villain - sidekick. However it's clear they are sociopath and evil just like their boss Judge Doom since they cooperate with him in the genocidal plan to get rid of all their same the toon race.

• Psycho for Hire: All of them to some degree, but especially Psycho.
• Psychopathic Manchild: Psycho and possibly Stupid.

• The Speechless: Smart Ass is the only one weasel who has more lines in the movie - Greasy and Psycho have only one/two of 'em. Stupid just says "Toon Town is behind the wall, boss" and nothing more and Wheezy's only actual line in the film is a barely noticeable "Let's go!" right after Eddie and Roger free Bennie the Cab.

Roger's friend and coworker on the movie business, who is - a baby - with an exception, that he's really about 50 years old.

• Cigar Chomper: Always has a smoke on hand or in his mouth whenever he's not in character.
• Dirty Old Man: Granted, he could be mistaken as a Dirty Kid.
• The Fool: His role in the cartoons. His character gets into all sorts of trouble, and comes out no worse for wear either by luck, or because Roger takes all the blows.
• Hates the Job, Loves the Limelight
• Jerk with a Heart of Gold: It may not look like it at first, but he cares about Roger.

Benny the Cab

Official Transport of Toon Town

A foul-mouthed, super fast cartoon taxi cab that is friends with Roger. He apparently has a history of run-ins with the law thanks to his rather chaotic driving skills. Has the supernatural ability to appear whenever someone sticks out their thumb.
