Characters page for Skies of Arcadia and Skies of Arcadia: Legends.

The Main Characters

Vyse

"One day, I shall see what lies beyond the clouds, the so-called limits of the world."

The hero of Skies of Arcadia, Vyse is a young, idealistic air pirate who dreams of sailing beyond the sunset. He fights with a pair of cutlasses. In the epilogue, he, Aika and Fina continue to sail the skies.

  • Accidental Pervert: If you examine the Schmuck Bait yellow hankie on Aika's wall right when you get to Pirate Isle. Ouch.
  • The Captain: Of the Delphinus, the coolest Cool Airship in the game.
  • Captain's Log: Vyse's journal, which can be accessed through the menu.
    • Actually, everyone gets to write in it, not just him. He does tend to write the most important entries though.
  • Chick Magnet: Aika, Fina, Belleza and several other minor characters all fall for him over the course of the story. Vyse is fully aware of most of them, but never acts on a single one.
  • Detached Sleeves
  • Determinator: Holy hell is he ever.
  • Dual-Wielding: Though outside of S-Moves, he only actually uses one sword to attack. He uses the smaller, secondary one for blocking.
  • Expy: Of Captain Harlock.
  • Eyepatch of Power: His goggles are actually in the form of this.
  • Goggles Do Nothing: Except in battle. There is a code to remove them. Right, right, left, left, up, down, up, down, right, left.
  • Goggles Do Something Unusual: It's a zoom lens. And it detects moonfish.
  • Gondor Calls for Aid: Although he didn't so much call for it as everybody showed up and said "hey, we heard you were gonna take on Galcian's flagship, need help? We wanna join the fun."
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Courtesy of Piastol.
  • The Hero: Naturally.
  • Heroes Love Dogs: If you recruit Pow, he continues to sail with Vyse long after the story's over.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords
  • Heroic BSOD: A very minor one near the end of the story. Galcian is set to take over the world, with an entire armada at his beck and call, an Atlantis-like continent as his fortress, said fortress protected by a shield (which the heroes have already tried, and failed, to breach), and an ancient superweapon that he has already used to wipe out Valua (and could easily do so to the rest of the world). While Vyse isn't keen on giving up, he's also realistic enough to know that he and his crew don't stand a chance against odds like that (at least without help, see Gondor Calls for Aid). It's the only time in the game that we see him at a loss for a course of action.
  • Jumped At the Call: When the opportunity came to go into Valua and rescue his friends? When the chance came to get the Moon Crystals and go against the most powerful empire on the planet? When the opportunity to steal the best ship in said Empire presented itself? Vyse not only jumped, he jumped head-first.
  • Just Like Robin Hood: He's a Blue Rogue, a faction of air pirates that prides themselves on only stealing from people who deserve it.
  • The Kirk: Of the Freudian Trio he forms with Aika and Fina.
  • Lovable Rogue: There doesn't seem to be a single person that Vyse comes across who isn't admiring him, on some level, by the end of the story. Even his enemies start to regard him as a Worthy Opponent.
  • The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: Subverted at the beginning where he and his father's crew attack Alfonso and steal his goods. Played straight for pretty much the rest of the game.
  • Playing with Fire: He learns red (fire) spells faster than the other 5 elements.
  • Razor Wind: Involved in some of his S-moves.
  • Red Baron: Swashbuckler ranks, culminating in Vyse the Legend.
  • Rummage Sale Reject: Lampshaded by the Yafutomans.
  • Shock and Awe: His specials are mostly electricity-based though.
  • Sword Beam: When attacking from a distance.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: An NPC lampshades this if you keep picking the right Swashbuckler options.
The Delphinus

A Super Prototype of a new class of airship designed by Admiral De Loco and the Valuan Armada, equipped with the most powerful cannons, armor plating and a Moonstone Cannon. It was created for Prince Enrique, but he gives it to Vyse once he joins the team.

Aika

"Friends and treasures, which shall I take? Why both, of course!"

Vyse's childhood friend, who lost her parents when she was little. A tomboyish air pirate who loves treasure almost as much as she loves her friends, but she can't swim and is terrified of ghosts. She moves quickly and fights with a large boomerang. In the epilogue, she, Vyse and Fina continue to sail the skies.

Fina

"I'm sorry... But I just cannot tell that to anyone."

A mysterious girl from the Silver Civilization on a mission to recover the 6 moon crystals before the Valuan Empire does. She knows very little about the world outside her homeland. She is adept at magic and fights with her pet, Cupil. In the epilogue, she decides to stay on Arcadia and continue to sail the skies with Vyse and Aika.

  • Calling the Old Man Out: She calls out Elder Prime for wishing to reset the world, having learned that there are good people in Arcadia.
  • The Chick: A more traditional version than Aika. Double-teams it with The Smart Girl when it comes to Moon Crystal lore.
  • Cleavage Window: A Downplayed Trope variation. And it's there so her shard of the Silver Moon Crystal has a place to show itself.
  • Cool Airship: The only one that can exit the atmosphere.
  • Damsel in Distress: A few times.
  • Detached Sleeves
  • God Guise: She's mistaken for a god by the people of Ixa'taka.
  • Hair of Gold
  • I Choose to Stay: With the Elders dead and the Silver Shrine no more, she has no home to return to, so she asks Vyse and Aika if she can continue to sail with them. They gladly accept and welcome her as an official member of their crew.
  • The Ingenue: Very innocent, sweet, polite and idealistic.
  • Last Of Her Kind: At the end of the game, she's the sole surviving member of the silver civilization.
  • Literal-Minded: Largely due to being sheltered for most of her life, which is why she fails to understand what Aika and the others mean when they try to explain certain things to her.
  • MacGuffin Girl: Even more so after Ramirez reveals that Silvites have a silver moon crystal within their bodies.
  • Morph Weapon: Doubles as her Non-Human Sidekick.
  • Mysterious Waif: Her true origins will be fairly obvious to the player, but in-universe, Vyse and the others are clueless as to where she's from or why the Valuan Empire seems hellbent to capture her.
  • Non-Human Sidekick: Cupil.
  • Pimped-Out Dress: The gold colored trimmings on her dress.
  • Pirate Girl: She doesn't dress like one until the epilogue cutscene though.
  • Proper Lady: Lampshaded by Belleza, who describes Fina as "shy and demure". Also, when thanking someone, she clasps both hands to her chest and makes a polite bow or curtsey.
  • Shrinking Violet: Before she opens up to the Blue Rogues. Justified by the fact that she has lived most of her life in the isolation of the Silver Civilization and has been warned that people in Arcadia are selfish and primitive.
  • Silk Hiding Steel: Evolves into this by the end of the game. She actually tells off the Empress of Valua IN HER OWN COURT for her misuse of the crystals.
  • The Spock: Of the Freudian Trio she forms with Vyse and Aika.
  • Squishy Wizard
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Girly Girl to Aika's Tomboy.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Now and then somebody makes a big deal over how they've never seen clothes like hers before, but it's not particularly often.
  • The Watson: As a Silvite, Fina is totally in the dark with regard to Arcadia and its rules.
  • Woman in White: From her veil down to her shoes.
  • Yin-Yang Bomb: Although she learns all magic quickly, she learns Silver (light/darkness or "Void") magic the fastest.

Drachma

"My sole purpose is to capture Rhaknam."

An old fisherman who lost his arm, eye and son to a giant arcwhale named Rhaknam; his life's goal is to hunt down Rhaknam to avenge his loss. He saves Vyse and Aika when they have a run-in with the arcwhale. He fights with his giant metal arm. He gives up hunting Rhaknam when the arcwhale saves his life and his ship. In the epilogue, spends his last days as a fisherman in honor of Jack and Rhaknam.

  • Animal Nemesis: He's Captain Ahab to Rhaknam's Moby Dick. Notably, Rhaknam is called Mobys in Japan.
  • Antagonist in Mourning
  • Artificial Limbs: His arm.
  • Badass
  • Badass Beard: Look out, it's Robot Ernest Hemingway! And he'll kick your ass.
  • Badass Grandpa: Old enough to be Vyse's grandfather, and no less competent of a fighter.
  • The Big Guy: A rather intelligent example.
  • The Captain: Of his own certified Cool Boat, the Little Jack. Called this by Vyse, Aika and Fina.
  • Conscience Makes You Go Back: Sourly ditches Vyse and co. in Maramba, stranding them. Fortunately, he turns his ship around when he learns Belleza's in the area.
  • Cool Airship: The Little Jack, named after the son he lost along with his arm and eye.
  • Cool Old Guy: An old sailor with a vendetta who takes the protagonist under his wing for a while.
  • Crash Into Hello: Vyse and Aika do the crashing, the Little Jack does the being crashed into.
  • Dead Little Sister: His son Jack.
  • Dope Slap: Frequently conks Vyse across the head with his metal hand.
    • Keep your hands on the wheel! CLANG
  • Eyepatch of Power: He got a spiffy mechanical arm out of the incident where he lost his eye too...
  • The Ferry Man: He serves this role towards Vyse during the early portion of the game.
  • Going Down with the Ship: The Little Jack is seemingly destroyed when Ramirez opens fire on it. Drachma, unwillingly to lose his quarry a second time, forces Vyse, Aika and Fina onto lifeboats and remains behind on the flaming ship.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Not above threatening people with death unless they tell him what he needs to know. He even does this with Marco.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Has a large scar over his missing eye.
  • Grumpy Bear: Put it this way: his one entry in the Captain's Log is titled "Harumph!".
  • Guttural Growler: His voice clips are much deeper than the rest of the party's.
  • Hook Hand: One of his early upgrades.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Acts gruff and standoffish, but ultimately comes to care a lot for Vyse, Aika and Fina.
  • Joined Your Party: He falls in and out of the party early on, and when he finally rejoins for good this is noted as "Drachma joined your party... again."
  • Like a Son to Me: Secretly views Vyse in this way, though it takes him an age to admit it.
  • Making a Splash: He learns all types of magic very slowly, but he learns blue (water) magic faster than the other types.
  • Mighty Glacier: The slowest playable character, but very bulky and powerful.
  • Never Found the Body: The Captain seemingly perishes in his final duel with Rhaknam. Actually, Rhaknam towed him safely all the way to the polar ice cap.
  • Not in This For Your Revolution: Drachma's only along for the ride until he gets another shot at Rhaknam. This ain't no RV.
    • Subverted when he rejoins the party for the attack on Galcian's fleet.
  • Obi-Wan Moment: Gives Vyse a quick smile (his only one in the game) before being dragged away by Rhaknam.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Drachma smiles exactly once in the entire game.
  • Red Baron: Valua lists him as "One-Armed Drachma".
  • Team Dad: Though he resents it.
  • This Is a Drill: One of his weapon attachments. With a random chance of instakill too.
  • Uppercut The Sky: One of his victory poses.
The Little Jack

Drachma's airship. A fishing boat that has been with Drachma for a very long time. It was named after Drachma's son, who died when the ship was attacked by Rhaknam. It was almost destroyed by Ramirez, but was towed away by the giant arcwhale while it was still mostly in one piece.

  • An Odd Place to Sleep: The girls get their own cabin (converted from a storeroom), which leaves Vyse stuck with an engine room hammock.
  • Chekhov's Gun: There are some lifeboats aboard...
  • Grappling Hook Pistol: But rarely used for grappling. This function does save the ship and Drachma's life though.
  • Harpoon Gun: Harpoon Cannon... FIRE!
  • What a Piece of Junk!: An old fishing ship that Drachma outfitted for combat. However, it's a very nimble little boat that packs a surprising wallop, and the ship manages to hold its own against Valuan cruisers several times throughout the story. It even manages to incapacitate a Gigas at one point.

Gilder

"Only four of us against 100 of them, huh... Sounds fun. Count me in!"

An easygoing air pirate captain who lives in pursuit of excitement (and pretty women). He's one of the most famous Blue Rogues in the skies, and is on the run from a girl from back home who is determined to marry him. He rescues Vyse from a deserted island, and fights with a pistol. In the epilogue, he continues his search for "The Good Life".

"Women are like sunsets. Each one is beautiful, but there'll be a new one tomorrow."

The Valuan Empire

Empress Teodora

"All the countries shall kneel before me!"

The ruler of the Valuan Empire and Enrique's mother, Teodora is a ruthless woman who will stop at nothing to unite the world under Valuan rule, as she believes is her destiny. She wants the moon crystals to aid in her goal, and to threaten anyone who would dare resist her by unleashing a Gigas. She is killed when Galcian calls down the Rains of Destruction.

Enrique

"Mother, the course of this country is wrong!"

The prince of Valua, who wants to see a peaceful world earned through diplomacy, not violence and conquest. He fights with rapiers and sabers. The Delphinus was meant to be his flagship but he gives it to Vyse when he joins him. In the epilogue, he marries Princess Moegi of Yafutoma and becomes emperor of Valua.

Galcian

"I am not tolerant enough to give you a second chance."

Grand Admiral of the Valuan Armada, Lord Galcian is loyal to one thing and one thing only: power. He wants to rule the world with an iron fist, and is pursuing the moon crystals to aid him. His flagships are the Serpent and the Hydra which, like all Valuan ships, are named for constellations. He dies when Belleza rams into his escape pod.

  • Authority Equals Asskicking: Head of the Armada for a good reason.
  • Beard of Evil: Sports one.
  • BFS: Particularly stands out since almost every other hand-to-hand combat weapon is a realistic size.
  • Big Bad: Eventually revealed to be this.
  • Big "What?"/Oh Crap: Upon realizing that Belleza's Not Quite Dead.
  • Blondes Are Evil
  • The Brutal Dragon: For Empress Teodora.
  • The Coats Are Off: Right before a battle.
  • Dark Messiah: Belleza and Ramirez consider him one.
  • Drunk on the Dark Side: His face while calling down the Rains of Destruction practically screams "UNLIMITTEEEDDD POOWWWAARGHHHHH!!!". And then there's his dialogue.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: After Alfonso cowardly kills his own Vice-Captain and abandons ship, Galcian relieves Alfonso's command of the Mid-Ocean fleet and forces him to restrict his operations to Ixa'taka. He also shows genuine respect for Gregorio after their duel and orders Gregorio's body shipped back to Valua, telling his men to take the utmost care with it, because it was "worth more than their lives."
  • Evil Is Hammy: For the most part, he's a very cold, calculating, and emotionless baddie... then he gets his hands on Zelos' power to create the Rains of Destruction, and begins devouring entire sets.
  • Evil Laugh: One of his few voice clips.
  • Evil Mentor: Victorious in the case of Ramirez.
  • A God Am I: Once he gets his hands on the Silver Moon Crystal.
  • Good Hair, Evil Hair: Definitely evil hair.
  • High Collar of Doom: While wearing his cloak, at least.
  • Hitler Cam: As Ramirez glowingly describes the virtues of his boss, we see a cutscene of Galcian in this pose.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: It's possible to fight him early in the game. Just not advisable.
  • Insane Admiral: While not demonstrably insane, he is weirdly indifferent to the country he supposedly defends.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: His ruthlessness ultimately got the better of him. Or, at the very least, if you're sending someone to their death, make sure they STAY dead.
  • Make an Example of Them: Mused over killing the Blue Rogues and leaving their carcasses "rotting in the sun"... but then admitted that they probably aren't dumb enough to resist capture.
    • Up to Eleven in the case of the entire Valuan continent. They could use a little rain....
  • Mighty Glacier: You'll more-than-likely outspeed him during the battle, but he'll hit like a tonne of bricks unless you're careful.
  • Obviously Evil: What? You mean the pantomime mustache, high collar, and theme tune that sounds like a funeral march on evil pills didn't tip you off?
    • Why wait until his appearance in the story? His appearance in the intro makes him do a theatrical flourish towards the camera as the set turns into a flaming background around him.
  • One-Handed Zweihander: "Vyse, I don't think we can take him." You got that right.
  • Shock and Awe/Yin-Yang Bomb: Uses mostly Electric and Void magic in the battle against him.
  • The Starscream: To Empress Teodora. Played with in that she is the only one who doesn't seem to realize.
  • Take Over the World: He couldn't have done it without a Silvite's help. Perversely, this is the guy Ramirez held up as the pinnacle of humanity.
  • Unflinching Walk: His Terminator stride while atop a fast-moving Valuan bullet train.

Ramirez

"...Slay the enemy. That is all."

Galcian's former vice captain, who was promoted to Admiral of the newly-formed sixth fleet of the Valuan Armada. He would follow Galcian to his own death. His flagship is the Monoceros, meaning "unicorn" in Greek. He is also from the Silver Civilization, and was the one originally sent to gather the Moon Crystals, but some bad experiences with the Valuan Armada turned him cold and cynical. He is killed by Vyse and his friends after fusing with Zelos. His only remnant, his Silver Moon Crystal, is given a burial at sky.

Alfonso

"Consider yourself honored to be able to meet me."

Admiral of the first fleet of the Valuan Armada, he got his position through connections and family ties. His ego is larger than his flagship, the Cygnus meaning "swan". He is killed when Galcian calls down the Rains of Destruction.

  • Aristocrats Are Evil: And how...
  • Big Bad Wannabe: Trying to rise through the ranks.
  • Bishounen: Deliberately tries to present the image.
  • Bling of War: Wears a decked out coat to show off his money and status.
  • Blond Guys Are Evil
  • Cutscene Boss/The Unfought: He sends his war beasts to fight for him, and you never get to fight his flagship. He dies in a cutscene by being crushed by a pillar.
  • Dirty Coward
  • Fluffy Tamer: He has two pet war beasts, both named Antonio.
  • Glory Hound: Tries to take credit for the accomplishments of his crew and other admirals.
  • High Collar of Doom: Part of the uniform.
  • Man in White: Wears a white coat, and his flagship, the Cygnus, is white.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Completely spoils DeLoco's plan to lock Vyse in an inescapable death trap. DeLoco is so furious, he eventually decides to just squash them both, but by then, Vyse has gotten away.
  • Selfish Evil: Discussed in-universe. After his first horrible failure, Galcian points out that Alfonso is a liar, a cheat, and an utter coward who is only out for his own personal gain who doesn't deserve to command the Mid-Ocean fleet.
  • Sissy Villain
  • Sixth Ranger: For the Valuan Admirals. He's the only one who is, quite simply, an utter failure in everything he does and is implied to have only earned his rank through his status rather than actual merit.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: The least competent admiral in the Valuan armada, but the biggest braggart.
  • Smug Snake: Has a very high opinion of himself and a very low opinion of everyone else.
  • Starter Villain: The game's prologue suggests that Alfonso and Vyse will become arch-enemies. This isn't exactly the case.
  • Villain Exit Stage Left: He talks a good game, but he always winds up shoving his men aside in a race for the exit.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: As mentioned above, Alfonso doesn't seem to understand that Skies of Arcadia isn't the sort of story where bad guys don't punish other bad guys.

Gregorio

"I, Gregorio, shall not let you through!"

Admiral of the second fleet of the Valuan Armada, renowned for his incredible defensive tactics. He raised Prince Enrique, and has a very close bond with him. He has no interest in conquest, but is loyal to his country. His flagship, the Auriga or "charioteer", has a spiked hull used as a shield and a battering ram. He is killed in a Heroic Sacrifice battle against Galcian.

  • Badass Beard: Sports one.
  • Badass Grandpa: The oldest admiral in the Valuan armada, and also one of the strongest.
  • The Big Guy: A lot of the time, however, he tends to come off as a heroic Five-Man Band member; which makes one wonder just what Valua was like before the empress went loco.
  • Blade on a Stick: His preferred weapons are a spear and a shield.
  • The Dark Chick: One of the only two Valuan admirals who are actually decent people at heart.
  • Defector From Decadence: Had a cushy position in the Valuan armada that he threw away to protect Enrique.
  • Friendly Enemy: The most willing to cooperate with Vyse out of the Valuan admirals.
  • Heel Face Turn: Decides that Vyse and Enrique are right and ultimately sacrifices himself protecting them from Galcian at Dangral Island.
  • Heroic Sacrifice/You Shall Not Pass: He gives his life holding off Galcian so Vyse, Aika, Fina and Enrique could escape from Dangral Island. Galcian actually respects this.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: True to form, he carries a large ballistic shield into his duel with Galcian.
  • Mighty Glacier/Stone Wall: He's known for his excellent defensive tactics, but he still hits like a truck.
  • My Country, Right or Wrong: He doesn't believe that what Teodora and Galcian are trying to do is right, but he loves Valua. He fights for his country rather than its rulers.
  • Noble Top Enforcer: Would much rather see Valua on the side of good than the side of power.
  • Officer and a Gentleman: Nice enough to send Enrique a dispatch announcing his intention to shell the town he's in.
  • Ramming Always Works: His fleet isn't so much composed of ships as airborne battering rams.
  • Redemption Equals Death: See Heroic Sacrifice above.
  • Shonen Hair: Unusual for a character his age.
  • Worthy Opponent: To both the Blue Rogues and even Galcian, who shows genuine respect for Gregorio's body after their duel and orders that his men ship his body back to Valua, saying it was more valuable than their lives. Since Galcian respects almost nobody, this should tell you a lot.

Vigoro

"Should I fire my big cannon, baby?"

Admiral of the third fleet of the Valuan Armada. He's a huge flirt who believes that a powerful offense is the best defense, and has a huge cannon mounted on the bow of his flagship, the Draco which has a HUGE CANNON, BABY! He becomes an Air Pirate and is the only surviving Valuan Admiral.

Belleza

"You're already playing my game, handsome."

Admiral of the fourth fleet of the Valuan Armada, and the Armada's covert operations specialist and a master tactician. She lost her parents in the Valua-Nasr war, and wants to put an end to wars so nobody else would have to go through what her family did. Her flagship is the Lynx. She dies when she rams the Lynx into Galcian's escape pod, killing both of them.

  • Affably Evil
  • All Love Is Unrequited: Deconstructed. She was in love with Galcian, but knew that the only thing he could ever love was power. She eventually gives her life to take his.
  • Bad Samaritan
  • The Baroness: At least at first.
  • Belly Dancer: "Bellena". Don't ask how she can hide her modest military uniform under belly dancer veils and a fake tan...
  • The Dark Chick: The only other Valuan Admiral who is in some way legitimately good. She's a much more traditional example than Gregorio.
  • The Dog Bites Back: Flies her battleship straight into Galcian's tiny escape pod. Ouch.
  • Early Bird Boss: Her flagship is the first proper non-tutorial airship battle in the game, and notoriously one of the most difficult.
  • Evil Redhead: She's a Valuan admiral and has dark red hair.
  • Femme Fatale
  • Freudian Excuse: Her father perished during the last great war, leaving his wife and daughter in abject poverty.
  • Friendly Enemy: She isn't on your side (for most of the game, anyway), but she doesn't want to fight and is trying to achieve the same goal as you; she just thinks the way to do it is to unite the world under a single ruler.
  • Half Truth: Everything she told Vyse about her family history while in her Bellena disguise was true. She just conveniently neglected to mention that her father was fighting on the Valuan side of the Valua-Nasr War.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: She gives her life to destroy Galcian's escape pod, killing him as he tries to get away from his burning fortress.
  • High Heel Face Turn: She isn't the only Valuan admiral to defect, but she's the only female Valuan admiral and one of the three who defects.
  • Kiss of Death: In a sense. If you replace "kiss Galcian" with making him EAT A BATTLESHIP.
  • Lady of War: Her tactics skew towards grace and espionage rather than brute force.
  • Mobile Menace: Vyse will forever go down in history for proving the world was spherical, but Belleza beat him there!
  • Not Quite Dead
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: She poses as a Belly Dancer named Bellena working in Maramba. Although it's justified in that Vyse, Aika, and Fina had never seen Belleza before.
  • Ramming Always Works: As Galcian discovers first-hand.
  • Reassignment Backfire: Galcian sending her back to Valua, confident she'll die when Soltis wipes it off the map. It doesn't take.
  • Redemption Equals Death: Deliberately invoked on her part. She rams the Lynx into Glacian's escape pod as he's trying to flee from Vyse, killing them both.
  • Sequential Boss: Fought in the Lynx after Recumen, but she's the real threat.
  • "Take That!" Kiss: Enjoys blowing a kiss at Vyse whenever she outsmarts him.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: A one-nation world is a peaceful world. To that end, Belleza prefers bloodless victories.
  • Woman Scorned: Turns out even if you don't care for a woman, trying to kill her with a Colony Drop is still a bad idea.

De Loco

"Hee hee... I'll kill you with my ship!"

Admiral of the fifth fleet of the Valuan Armada. He wears a space suit and is the Armada's head of research and development. He loves his creations more than people, and gets extremely angry at anyone who damages his precious flagship, the Chameleon. His lust for revenge gets the better of him as he ignores the damage his Chameleon took and continues to fight Vyse. Vyse kills him by destroying the Chameleon at Deep Sky. Interestingly, this makes him the only one of the five admirals to die at the hands of Vyse.

The Gigas

The Gigas are six living weapons (red, green, blue, purple, yellow and silver) created by the Old Civilizations of Arcadia to go to war with each other. They are controlled by activating their respective Moon Crystals.

Recumen

The first Gigas, made by the red civilization and residing in Nasr, is activated by Belleza. It attacks with a supercharged heat beam known as the "Red Ray" from one of its four heads. It is put to rest by Belleza to avoid it rampaging and killing her crew.

Grendel

The second Gigas, made by the green civilization, is found in Ixa'taka. It is awakened by Ixa'taka's king and goes on a rampage when he is knocked unconscious. It has no real long range weapon, so it hurls boulders, and its punch can destroy small islands. Oddly, its attacks have little to do with healing or poison. It is defeated by falling into a river and being unable to pick itself up out of the ditch. It is then deactivated.

Bluheim

The third is Yafutoma's Gigas, made by the blue civilization. It is a phoenix or dragon-like Gigas. It is the first Gigas with the capability of flight, as well as the first to be outright destroyed in ship-to-ship combat.

Plergoth

The fourth Gigas, made by the purple civilization, is formally known as Plergoth, but is actually Drachma's arch-enemy, the arcwhale Rhaknam. The purple civilization decided to turn a living creature into a gigas rather than make one. He has an unnaturally low body heat and causes fog wherever he goes. He is mortally wounded by Ramirez and flees home to Glacia, but dies as a result of the encounter, leaving the Purple Moon Crystal for Vyse.

Yeligar

The Yellow Civilization's Gigas is sealed under the Maw of Tartas in Valua and, as such, cannot be reached until you can fly to low altitudes. It breaks its seal, is killed, and never comes up again.

Zelos

The Silver Gigas, Zelos, is activated by using all six Moon Crystals. It was created to end the Old Civilization by the Silver Civilization's Elders. Once they decommissioned the other Gigas and took the other Moon Crystals, they used Zelos to kill millions with the Rains of Destruction. Unleashes the Rains of Destruction again on Valua when reawakened by Galcian, and fuses with Ramirez after Galcian's death. It's eventually destroyed by Vyse.

The Crew of the Delphinus

Belle

An energetic girl sent by Clara to get better at firing canons. She can be recruited as a Gunner. She returns to the Primrose with the knowledge that cannonballs come out of cannons really fast.

Brabham

A crazy old engine expert, sent by Gilder to help Vyse out and make modifications to the Delphinus. He joins as an Engineer. He becomes the happy head of Valua's new shipbuilding facilities in the epilogue.

Domingo the Explorer

A treasure hunter who wants to find all the discoveries in the world. He can be recruited as a Lookout. He tries opening a trade business, but it fails. He returns to exploring.

Don

A hopeless drunkard from Esperanza who regains hope after Vyse returns, having made it successfully through the Dark Rift. He can be recruited as a Helmsman. In the epilogue, he becomes an Admiral in the New Esparanzan Navy, charting a safe route through the Dark Rift.

Hans

An adopted son of the Gadgeteer Genius air pirate Centime who is fascinated by all things mechanical. He can be recruited as an Engineer. He works side by side with Brabham and establishes a scholarship for needy students. He also marries Urala.

  • Gadgeteer Genius: Much like his adoptive father.
  • Goggles Do Nothing: Well, they're probably useful for eye protection when he's working on heavy machinery, but you never actually see him use them.
  • Happily Adopted: One of Centime's many adopted children.

  • The Medic: Though, as a chemist, he inititally claims to be unfit for the job.
  • Megane
  • Stoic Spectacles: One of the more level-headed crew members Vyse can recruit.

Kalifa

A fortune teller from Maramba, who claims to be the most famous fortune teller in Nasr. She can be recruited as a Merchant.

  • Fortune Teller: Though the quality of the fortune depends on how much you pay. 100 gold will net you something helpful for completing the game, but only 10 will get you the weather, something incredibly obvious, or some vague mumbling that, as Vyse points out at one point, could be anybody's fortune. She gives up fortunetelling in the epilogue.

Osman

A financial clerk who loves money above all else, and refuses to help Vyse get a new ship when they come to her for help. In a karmic twist, she loses her money and her business when Nasrad is destroyed. She can be recruited as a Merchant. She regains her wealth by trading with Yafutoma.

Pinta

A kid from Sailor's Island who wants to explore the world and have adventures. He can be recruited as a Delegate. In the epilogue, Pinta continues searching for treasure and hopes to visit the moons.

Tikatika

  • The Archer
  • Super Senses: He can see small and distant things very precisely. If you speak to him on Crescent Isle, he'll tell you little things that your crew has been up to (like stealing each other's lunch).

Urala

A shy chef and waitress working at a tea house in Yafutoma. She can be recruited as a Cook.

Black Pirates

The Black Pirates are the opposite of the Blue Rogues. Where Blue Rogues are Just Like Robin Hood, Black Pirates are... well... Pirates. They attack merchant vessels for their goods and it's implied that many rape women. In Legends, you can take on some of these pirates in optional Bounty Missions.

Baltor

A Black Pirate feared around Mid Ocean. He attacks ships for their cargo in his ship, the Blackbeard. Vyse encounters him while escorting a Nasrian merchant home and is the game's first ship battle. He swears revenge and returns near the end only to be hopelessly outmatched by the Delphinus's power. He joins forces with Vyse to take out Soltis and, in the epilogue, goes back to chasing Vyse.

Rupee

Rupee is the newest leader of the infamous Larso Clan of Nasrian Black Pirates. Though the wanted poster seems imposing, the figure on the poster is actually his bodyguard Barta. The actual Rupee is a small boy. He doesn't want to be a pirate, preferring to make carpets like his mother. After he and Barta are defeated, Vyse encourages him to do what makes him happy.

Gordo

Gordo the Round is a fat, gluttonous pirate who attacks ships for their food. After his defeat, he recognizes Drachma as the sailor hunting Rhaknam to avenge his son, this revelation of his motives enrages Drachma. Gordo later opens a restaurant in North Ocean.

Lapen

A reckless, ruthless pirate who destroys towns with his Super Robot, Gunarm. He is one of the adopted sons of Centime, and learned most of his engineering skills from him. However, Lapen resents his "old fart" of a father for being what he sees as cowardly. Lapen wishes to be famous and known across the world for his brilliance unlike Centime. After his defeat, he learns that fame and infamy are not the same. He decides to become an engineer and hopes to surpass his father.

The Ixa'ness Demons

Three young triplets, Tara, Pera and Lira, whom have been abducting men from other villages for their all-female village. They enjoy flirting with Vyse both before and after the battle. They make fun of Aika and Fina for being "old hags" much to Aika's anger and Fina's confusion. After the battle, we learn that the "abducted" men went of their own accord.

Vize, Anita and Faina

A trio of actors-turned-Black Pirates that impersonate Vyse, Aika and Fina to further their own greed. The real ones lay a smackdown on them and they decide to go legit, starting a Vyse look-alike show about the heroes' exploits.

Daikokuya

An elderly Yafutoman Black Pirate who sails in a needlessly extravagent ship over Glacia. He challenges Vyse to battle hoping to show him that money can buy power and hoping he'll be able to woo Vyse with the promise of money. After his defeat, he decides to continue traveling the world. He asks Vyse if they can "warm each other up". Vyse takes evasive action.

Lord Zivilyn Bane

The leader of the Zivilyn Bane Clan of thieves that Vyse has fought in every dungeon. He is found in Soltis and escapes after his defeat.

  • Anticlimax Boss: He's one of the easier bounty fights, but can be rough if you're not expecting it and go in unprepared.
  • Big Bulky Bomb: That he keeps under his cloak...
  • Chest Monster: All of the lesser Zivilyn Banes pop out of chests in the other dungeons, and he comes from a chest in the Very Definitely Final Dungeon.
  • Cool Shades: Goggles.
  • The Faceless: All of the Zivilyn Bane's faces are completely hidden.
  • Flunky Boss: Comes with two Zivilyn Bane in tow, and can summon more.
  • Goggles Do Nothing: In Soltis, at least. Since the Zivilyn Bane are based in Nasr, they're probably useful there.
  • Shoot the Medic First: He and his clan tend to target Fina frequently. Perhaps they hate Silvites?
    • Alternatively, they're Dangerously Genre Savvy.
    • He's fought in Soltis, so hating Silvites would make sense somewhat, as he had to go through a lot of annoying Silvite robots to get as deep as he is.
  • Wolverine Claws: Supersized.

Other Characters

Dyne

Vyse's father, and captain of the Albatross. He's one of the most famous air pirates in the sky.

A Legends-exclusive Bounty Hunter known as the "Angel of Death" who kills wanted air pirates (and is wanted by the Armada herself, ironically) and has a vendetta against Vyse and Aika.

Clara

An air pirate who saves Aika and Fina when they get separated from Vyse. She's determined to marry Gilder, whether he wants it or not (he doesn't).

Aika: That was the nicest stalker I've ever met. But at least it explains why her entire ship looks like a honeymoon suite.

Centime

A Blue Rogue well known for his engineering feats. He spends most of the game working on his downed ship, the Ironclad, in Horteka.
