The Cures
Chloe Auriville (Cure Rosa) | Voice Actor: Asumi Nakata (Japanese); Sherry Lynn (English)
"In the Name of the Pink Rose, I am Cure Rosa!"
"I never meant to hurt you. We were starting to become closer... Even closer than I would imagine. But then... this happens."
- Actor Allusion (Having her sing in episode 21 might be explained because of Lucia.)
- Catch Phrase ("Catch you on the rebound!", which doubles as "On the Next Episode of..." Catchphrase.)
- Cooldown Hug (With Ashley in episode 41)
- Eyepatch of Power (In episode 20 as "Captain Chloe".)
- Five Temperament Ensemble (Melancholic)
- Gratuitous French
- Heart Beat-Down
- The Hero
- The Hero Dies (and then gets better shortly afterward.)
- Hilarious in Hindsight (One of the primary reasons Heartcatch Pretty Cure is rumored to be a canon version of Pretty Cure Perfume Preppy is due to how much she and Tsubomi look like in both civillian and Cure forms.)
- New Transfer Student (at the start)
- The Power of Love (It doesn't just power her attacks, it allows her to triumph several time over, especially where her relationship with Ashley is concerned.)
- Rapunzel Hair (as Cure Rosa)
- Redheaded Hero → Rose-Haired Girl (again, as Cure Rosa)
- Slipknot Ponytail (episodes 10 and 41)
- Skirt Over Slacks (Surprisingly enough, she's the only Cure of her team that wears them.)
- Super Speed (Gains this ability in episode 32.)
- Time Stands Still (When she uses her superspeed as Cure Rosa, she sees the whole world like this. Clearly Lavvie and Lotus have watched Cyborg 009.)
- Taking the Bullet
Chiara Auriville (Cure Vanilla) | Voice Actor: Asami Shimoda (Japanese); Luci Christian (English)
"In the Name of the Yellow Vanilla Flower, I am Cure Vanilla!"
"You… You just can’t understand how much fairytales mean! Nobody wants despair and darkness taking over the world! That’s why most, if not every fairytale has a happy ending! AND I WON’T LET YOU RUIN THIS ONE!!"
- A-Cup Angst
- The Chick
- Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass
- The Ditz
- "Just Clueless" Blonde
- Expy (of Urara, with a side serving of Nozomi's cluelessness)
- Five Temperament Ensemble (Sanguine)
- Flower in Her Hair
- Genki Girl
- Girly Girl To Ayameko's Tomboy
- Gratuitous French
- Insistent Terminology (She insists that she is "just in development" every time someone calls her "flat".)
- Kid Appeal Character
- Magic Music/The Power of Rock (In episode 31, her singing made the monster weaker. Given it was Meltdown...)
- Make Me Wanna Shout
- New Transfer Student (at the start)
- Pettanko (Leading to the aforementioned A-Cup Angst.)
- Shout-Out (Her hairstyle as Cure Vanilla was meant to resemble Bubbles.)
- Verbal Tic (In episode 18, when she was fused with Sophie the puppy, she ended her phrases with "-da wan".)
- A Wild Rapper Appears (You thought she'd let Ayameko have all the fun? She actually raps on at least one Vanilla Stardust performance herself!)
- Zettai Ryouiki (Grade B as Cure Vanilla)
Mayonaka Ayameko (Cure Jasmine) | Voice Actor: Satsuki Yukino (Japanese); Sandy Fox (English)
"In the Name of the Purple Jasmine Flower, I am Cure Jasmine!"
"They're making our heroines and the mascots look like fools! Where's your pride?! I will... not... sit here and let them get away with this!"
- Blue Eyes → Purple Eyes (as Cure Jasmine)
- BST (With Pittan)
- Crossdresser (during a temporary all-girl troupe's performance of a Futari wa Hearty Pure scenario, she was Pisshurd)
- Ayameko tends to get this a lot in Pretty Cure Anime Theatre whenever the Perfume Preppy team performs in a play featured in the anthology series; the most notable example (simply because said character actually had a role in the plot) was when she was cast as Fakir in Princess Tutu. The only time she was cast as a girl was when she portrayed Sweet/Neesha in Pokémon the First Movie.
- Epileptic Trees (though their costumes are not explicitly stated during that scene, it can be inferred from her personality compared with those of her teammates that during the dance lessons scene in episode 28, she's the only one involved who's wearing a biketard)
- Five Temperament Ensemble (Choleric)
- Hotblooded Sideburns
- The Lancer
- Meaningful Name ("Mayonaka" / "midnight")
- And "Ayameko" / "iris child", because her mother Risako turns out to be a past Pretty Cure, Cure Iris.
- Opera Gloves (as Cure Jasmine)
- The Power of Rock (uses it to destroy Frencheese in episode 45, followed by a Bond One-Liner: "We're having roasted cheese for dinner tonight!")
- Precision F-Strike (She swears a few times throughout, including when Frencheese crashes the Oriyama Junior High talent show, but her strongest word was "bastard", as seen in episode 39.)
- Real Women Never Wear Dresses (Subverted in a few later episodes, where at one point it's even stated she isn't afraid to wear a dress, as well as with her school uniform and Cure outfit, and then double subverted during her only ballet scenes, in episode 28, where she wears a purple biketard--though it's never stated in the scene itself--and a black, blue, and silver full-body spandex costume that's obvious crossdressing on her part, respectively)
- She Cleans Up Nicely (in episode 47)
- Shock and Awe
- Shorttank (to the point where, though the girls' costumes during that scene are not explicitly stated, she's the only one among the four to wear a biketard during the dance lessons scene in episode 28)
- Tomboy To Chiara's Girly Girl
- A Wild Rapper Appears (If anyone's going to rap on Vanilla Stardust's songs, it's most likely going to be her, as seen in at least one concert film featuring the group.)
- You Gotta Have Purple Hair
- Zettai Ryouiki (Grade B as Cure Jasmine)
Mitsukawa Hanae (Cure Tangerine) | Voice Actor: Natsuko Kuwatani (Japanese); Bridget Hoffman (English)
"In the Name of the Orange Tangerine Flower, I am Cure Tangerine!"
"If we aren’t together, then we will become weaker. That will be an easier way for Karlix to defeat us and take over both worlds."
- Blow You Away / Make Me Wanna Shout
- Five Temperament Ensemble (Supine)
- Girly Girl To Ikuko's Tomboy (however, during their pas de deux at the end of episode 36, Ikuko's the one wearing a leotard, and if the circumstances--i.e. Hanae about to go to bed but practicing ballet again before turning in for the night--are any indicator, it's not a far stretch to believe that Hanae is wearing two-piece pajamas, colored orange with ballet shoes print on them, during this scene)
- The Glasses Come Off (Whenever she becomes Cure Tangerine.)
- Orange Eyes (as Cure Tangerine)
- Making a Spectacle of Yourself (On a lesser extent, as her glasses aren't that extravagant. They do have oddly-colored lenses, though.)
- Meganekko
- Our Mermaids Are Different (in episode 20)
- Schoolgirl Lesbians (with Ikuko)
- Shrinking Violet
- The Smart Guy
- Smart People Wear Glasses
- Uke (to Ikuko's Seme)
- Verbal Tic (In episode 20, as a mermaid, she ended her sentences with "pichi"; this suffix comes from "pichi pichi", the onomatopoeia of a fish blowing bubbles.)
- Who Wears Short Shorts? (Surprisingly, she manages to pull this off during one scene in the Pretty Cure Anime Theatre episode where the Cures perform in Kämpfer.)
Torino Ikuko (Cure Cardamomo) | Voice Actor: Rio Natsuki (Japanese); Philece Sampler (English)
"In the Name of the Green Cardamom, I am Cure Cardamomo!"
"Huh? What? No, no, my chest hasn’t grown any centimeter. But, mom... I think I’m starting to get closer to these underclassmen... I don’t know..."
- Beauty Mark
- The Big Guy
- Big Breasts, Big Deal (of the Indifference type)
- Brown Eyes → Green Eyes (as Cure Cardamomo)
- Cool Big Sis
- Dishing Out Dirt
- Expy (of both Kino Makoto and Rina Toin at once.)
- Fan Nickname (Makorina, Doujin Bait)
- Five Temperament Ensemble (Phlegmatic)
- Laser-Guided Amnesia (episode 35)
- Ojou
- Onee-Sama
- Opera Gloves (as Cure Cardamomo)
- Schoolgirl Lesbians (with Hanae)
- Seme (to Hanae's Uke)
- Tall, Dark and Bishoujo
- Tomboy To Hanae's Girly Girl (OK, they're both girly, but Ikuko was on the male side of her pas de deux with Hanae at the end of episode 36; however, she was wearing a green leotard, while Hanae, if the nighttime setting is any indicator, was wearing two-piece orange pajamas during the pas de deux)
- You Gotta Have Green Hair
Their Allies
Lavvie | Voice Actor: Tomoko Kaneda (Japanese); Tony Oliver (English)
"It's like he's the new toy in the shelf, with all these amazing gadgets and stuff, and I'm the teddy bear who is left behind for being 'useless'."
- Arranged Marriage (He's involved in one with a fellow Scentillian, Vivian.)
- Green-Eyed Monster (In episode 14, towards the kitten Oddball.)
- Keet
- Mentor Mascot
- Mr. Exposition (In episode 40, he tells Chiara and Ayameko about the way Scentillians get married, with tons of description.)
- Mission Control (During the three final episodes.)
- Pirate Parrot (In episode 20)
Lotus | Voice Actor: Rie Iwatsubo (Japanese); Rebecca Forstadt (English)
"Will you keep it down, desu? I'm trying to count what we got during the week, desu!"
- Everything's Better with Princesses (Though she actually queens it up in the finale.)
- Girlish Pigtails
- Hey, It's That Voice! (It's recommended to imagine her sounding like Safety...)
- Mentor Mascot
- Mission Control (During the three final episodes.)
- Verbal Tic (She says the traditional 'desu' after every phrase, desu.)
Pittan (Daidai Pitari) | Voice Actor: Yusuke Tezuka (Japanese); Steven Jay Blum (English)
"Man, this is getting boring. Can we have some good violence now?"
- Butt Monkey
- BST (With Ayameko)
- Crossdresser (During the second eyecatch)
- Embarrassing Nickname (Do not call him "Pit", or else...)
- Expy (of Syrup)
- Fiery Redhead
- Humanity Ensues
- Long-Haired Pretty Boy (In human form)
- Marshmallow Hell (Ikuko puts him through this in episode 35.)
- Naked People Are Funny (Much like the cursed Sohma family and Ahiru, Pittan is always in the buff when he transforms into a human, leading to much awkwardness in episode 44.)
- Polly Wants a Microphone
- Precision F-Strike (In episode 38, but it was a minor one.)
- Third Ranger (to Lavvie and Lotus)
- Trademark Favorite Food (Butterscotch)
- Voluntary Shapeshifting (He can turn from bird to human and back whenever he lets out a 'squawk'.)
Their Enemies
Ashley McFly (Leather Ashes) | Voice Actor: Yuriko Yamaguchi (Japanese); Jamie Marchi (English)
"I Am the Loyal Servant of the Dark Blazes, Leather... Ashes"
"It doesn't matter to you, Cure Rosa. Nothing about me matters to you or your other Pretty Cure friends."
- Artificial Human
- Casting a Shadow / The Power of Blood
- Cooldown Hug (Given one by Chloe in episode 41.)
- Dark Magical Girl
- Cute Kitten (She's eventually reborn as the Auriville family's pet white cat.)
- Evil Sounds Deep
- Eyes of Gold
- Fan Nickname (Cure Kraehe)
- Hannibal Lecture (A heroic example, when she delivers a demeaning one in Raflesina's direction. It doesn't end well.)
- Heel Face Turn (With some encouragement by Pittan, Ashley became ready to abandon Karlix in episode 49)
- I'm a Humanitarian (Appears at the end of episode 48 chowing down on a bit on one of her victims' corpses. Ouch.)
- It Is Pronounced "Tro-PAY" (The "Leather" in "Leather Ashes" was originally pronounced with "lee-ther" instead of the usual "leh-ther".)
- Jerkass Woobie (On one hand, she's a creepy and destructive girl who's probably racked up one of the highest body counts of any supporting Precure villain and has been shown engaging in some pretty disturbing behavior. On the other hand, with a mother like Raflesina, can you blame her? She does have a good number of sympathetic moments as well anyway.)
- Knight of Cerebus (Not a blatant example, but her appearance definitely marks a shift towards a slightly darker tone for the series' latter half, and she definitely manages to pull off "dangerous and menacing" in a way the previous enemies the Cures had fought never could. Being an occasionally rather violent young woman adds to this -- most infamously, she stabs a would-be rapist to death; later on, she evidently decapitates a guy off-screen.)
- Little Miss Badass (And how!)
- Meaningful Name
- Moral Event Horizon (Subverted BIG TIME. She does a lot of nasty stuff for most of the second half, including her cannibalistic murder spree, and yet she still retains our sympathy, especially after we learn that her Complete Monster of a mom had been willfully brainwashing her in episode 41.)
- New Transfer Student ("From America".)
- Painful Transformation
- Pettanko (Moreso than Chiara, even.)
- Redemption Equals Death (Subverted; Raflesina tries to kill her after she abandons Karlix in episode 49. However, Cure Rosa dies instead.)
- Spikes of Villainy (Her Leather Ashes costume features clearly spikier frills than the Cures' costumes.)
- Stereotype Flip (More like a Foreign Fanservice Flip. She pretends to be from the USA, and is a flat-chested brunette, a 360 flip on the common image Japanese have of all American women being blonde buxom beauties.)
- Super-Powered Evil Side (Berserker Ashes)
- "Well Done, Daughter" Girl (Strives for this at first)
- Zettai Ryouiki (Grade C as Leather Ashes)
Stankou | Voice Actor: Akio Ōtsuka (Japanese); Lex Lang (English)
Frencheese | Voice Actor: Unshō Ishizuka (Japanese); Kirk Thornton (English)
Gaabeitan | Voice Actor: Takeshi Aono (Japanese); Richard Epcar (English)
- Minion Shipping (Nursed a one-sided crush on Raflesina)
- One-Winged Angel
Shashincame | Voice Actor: Bin Shimada (Japanese); Mark Hamill (English)
Komorah | Voice Actor: Miyoko Aso (Japanese); Catherine Battistone (English)
- Evil Is Sexy
- One-Winged Angel
- Our Vampires Are Different
- What Is This Thing You Call Love? (during episode 43)
Nekoshippo Lori (Lapinyuu) | Voice Actor: Chiemi Chiba (Japanese); Tress MacNeille (English)
- Attention Deficit Ooh Shiny (In episode 12 she clearly becomes distracted by the shiny glass containing Frencheese's perfume, the Cheese of Despair.)
- Casual Danger Dialogue (In episode 4: "Now that's what I call Teddygodzilla!")
- Fiery Redhead
- Genki Girl (Moreso than Chiara even.)
- Genre Savvy
- Heel Face Turn (In episode 13, she is fired from Karlix for sporting Pretty Cure paraphernalia in Raflesina's presence and desires to join the Cures but is rejected, though by chance she winds up in her first acting job immediately afterward--as Third Ranger to Hearty Pure, Glowy Radiant.)
- Hey, It's That Voice! (Fittingly enough: in Japanese, Doremi Harukaze, and in English, Babs Bunny.)
- Kawaiiko
- Lady Mondegreen (Her villain name came from a Gratuitous Japanese mishearing of "loving you".)
- Laughably Evil
- Magical Girl (She is an obvious parody of this type of character.)
- Perky Female Minion
- Petting Zoo People (Technically, the animal parts are from her costume, but it still counts.)
- Poke the Poodle (During her stint with Karlix, this was the only thing she was capable of doing; however, pretty quickly things blow out of proportion, way beyond how she intended to cause mischief--for example, she runs out of glitter and uses a substitute to wreak havoc in a museum, forgetting to pay for the substitute.)
Ramona McFly (Raflesina) | Voice Actor: Toshiko Fujita (Japanese); Mary Elizabeth McGlynn (English)
"It's time for me to take matters into my OWN HANDS!"
- Big Bad
- Complete Monster (She becomes less and less sympathetic as the series goes on. By the time episode 41 rolls around and she's been shown willingly using her own daughter as brainwashed cannon fodder, it's pretty much impossible to feel sorry for her. She finally clinches it in episode 49 by attempting to off her daughter after finding out she had pulled a Heel Face Turn... and killing her best friend instead.)
- Evil Matriarch (to Ashley, even to the point of trying to kill her in episode 49 after she switches sides)
- Evil Redhead
- Moral Event Horizon (in episode 49, her attempted assassination of Ashley led to her backflipping over it shouting "
whoohoo!COWABUNGA!") - One-Winged Angel
