Deadly Mistakes
Have you ever messed with one of those silly 12-character memes and gotten a "what if character X got character Y pregnant?" question, and then wondered what would have happened if that child was actually born?
The intrepid weirdos of a certain Fanfiction.net forum did. And this is the RP (found here) they created based on that idea.
You might want to run now.
Now has its own Shout Out page.
A-E
- Abusive Alien Dad: Faeton and Anurto's dad wasn't that kind to them (especially not Anurto).
- Abusive Parents: Madigan's mother is considered to be emotionally abusive to her.
- Not to mention Kainashi's mother.
- Action Girl: Piper, Jezebel, Ellen, Brynja, Cass and Susan.
- All of the Other Reindeer: Inochitori is part Vocaloid, but she has no voice and therefore cannot sing.
- Isaac's own (human) maternal grandfather almost excluded him from the family because of his half-penguin heritage.
- Ancestral Weapon: Kyle's weapon was passed down from Ramirez to Connor MacLeod/Russel Nash to him, Xavier's .38 once belonged to his mother, Word of God says that Kurgan Junior's broadsword was once her father's (though how she got it and how she knows, we have no idea) and (according to Word of God) Inochitori's knife is the same knife Madotsuki used.
- Animal Eye Spy: Xavier can do this with animals associated with death.
- Anticlimax Boss: Kurgan Junior was killed before the plot even started to become interesting.
- Anti-Hero: Kyle is somewhere between types 1 and 2, leaning more toward 1.
- Anti-Villain: Madigan.
- Apologizes a Lot: Anurto, Dusk and Bernie all seem to be over-apologetic.
- Also Yuuka, the morning after she met "The Bully".
- Yuuka in general, actually.
- Also Yuuka, the morning after she met "The Bully".
- Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: Wilson accuses Rowan of trying to kill him, confessing feelings for him, and breaking his toothbrush. Although, given that this is Wilson, the last one may have been just as serious as the other two for him.
- Artistic License: Biology : In this game, science (despite being a common origin story, oddly enough) takes backseat to the Rule of Fun.
- Ascended Extra: Squawky the Parrot.
- Asexuality: Inochitori. Considering the alternatives, this is probably for the best.
- Asshole Victim: Dorian.
- Kainashi, sometimes.
- Attempted Rape: What The Bully, Xavier's dark side, intended to do to Yuuka before he was overtaken.
- Siren tried seducing a very unwilling Wilson until Rowan mentally snapped and came in to break it up, threatening to kill Siren and possibly Wilson as well.
- Author Appeal: Most (if not all) of the characters, to some slight degree, are appealing to their creators in their own way.
- Famine lookes like Kurt Fuller, according to DM.
- Awesome McCoolname: Danger Makenshi. Rather ironic, considering that he's also a Shrinking Violet.
- Thaddeus Blackstone Granger is a pretty cool name, too.
- Back from the Dead: Kurgan Junior has been revived after being killed off too early. There were no complaints about her return.
- Badass: Kurgan Junior and Newt.
- Badass Longcoat: Xavier and Rowan.
- Badass Normal: Jim.
- Batter Up: Delon likes to use a metal baseball bat as a weapon.
- It seems to be one of Susan's favorite weapons as well.
- Bavarian Fire Drill: Mathew pulls this, pretending to be an FBI agent.
- Belligerent Sexual Tension: Kyle and Newt have plenty of this.
- Susan and Dorian might, too.
- Berserk Button: Rowan hates being called a homosexual. Also, may God help you if you drink the last of his booze.
- It's not a good idea to talk badly about Piper's father while she's within earshot...
- Don't bring up Kyle's parents.
- You'd better not talk about experimenting on live test subjects without their consent or genetic experimentation while Augustin's around...
- Unless you want to face a Fate Worse Than Death, don't compare Thaddeus to his parents.
- Try not to compare Dorian's hair to...this guy's. Also, his tunic? Not a blouse.
- Don't you dare pick on Faeton's twin brother, Anurto. While you're at it, don't mistake her for a boy.
- Brynja doesn't like to be called "Bryn".
- Don't touch Cass's whiskey or cheese.
- You'll regret ever saying that Delon is a "ginger" or has no soul.
- Bifauxnen: Kurgan Junior, although it's a bit easier to tell what gender she is.
- Faeton is one, as well. Don't mistake her for a boy, though.
- Big Applesauce: Interestingly subverted; it started out in New York City and some important things have happened there, but they do end up leaving to go to other places where other, more important things have happened.
- Big Brother Instinct: Kyle certainly has one towards some of the younger Mistakes. Well, Madigan and Bernie, at least; not so much Dorian. He even says this himself:
"I like [Madigan]- not the way that Wilson apparently does, but still. She's like a sister."
- Big "What?": Quite a few of the group's reactions to finding out that Kurgan Junior was technically Bernie's step-sister.
- Bi the Way: Cass and Chester are both like this.
- Black Eyes: Rowan has one. Faeton's scleras are black, but her irises are gold. Dorian also has black scleras.
- Blue Eyes: Piper, Fawn, Mathew, Dorian, Cass, and Rey have them.
- Blue Skinned Space Babe: Jezebel.
- Bratty Half-Pint: Dorian. Not even Inochitori likes him.
- Breaking the Fourth Wall: Mathew does this often.
- Brown Eyes: Ellen and Jim both have brown eyes (at least according to the latter's fanart). Xavier's eyes are very dark, borderline black.
- Butt Monkey/Chew Toy: Jim. Poor, poor Jim.
- Rowan, as well. He even lampshaded it:
"How did you-never mind. With the way my luck has been, [Newt figuring out his real name] is the least of my worries."
- Wilson, too. Part of it's due to his cowardice, but part of it's also due to his roleplayer's lack of attention to what is going on.
- Dorian was specifically designed to be slapstick fodder.
- Cannot Spit It Out: Dusk seemed to have this problem with telling Piper that he wanted them to be more than Just Friends.
- Cast from Hit Points: If Thaddeus goes overboard with the casting, this happens.
- Catch Phrase: Susan's is a variation of her dad's:
- Chekhov's Parrot: For a while, the only way that Augustin could really get from place to place quickly was if someone carried him. Enter Squawky.
- Chekhov's Skill: Newt has the ability to speak any language, which later helped with translating Inochitori's Japanese writing (since she can't speak).
- Cheerful Child: Madigan, when she's sane.
- Child by Rape: Sadly applies to a few of the "mistakes"; particularly Kurgan Junior, Bernie (in an odd Gender Flip case where his father was the one who was raped) and Dusk (he isn't aware of this, though).
- Childhood Friend Romance: A mutual case happens between Dusk and Piper.
- Children Are Innocent: Well, Heather is.
- Cluster F-Bomb: Kyle says a fuckload of cusswords.
- Ellen swore repeatedly during her argument with her mother.
- Cool Bike: Kyle and Susan.
- Cool Car: Xavier has a restored 1971 Nova SS Coupe, and Kurgan Junior has a Cadillac.
- Cool Helmet: Jezebel has one, which isn't too shocking given that her father is Dark Helmet.
- Cool Sword: Kyle got one from War.
- Curse Cut Short: When Newt was trying to imply that Mathew was an ass, but he didn't understand...
Dusk: "Mathew, she's calling you an a-"
Siren: "Alejandro. Nice choice."
- Cute and Psycho: Madigan is usually a very sweet girl, but her "other self" is most definitely not.
- Cut His Heart Out with a Spoon: Kyle did something along the lines of this:
What little is left of my common sense says "touch my bike and I'll rip out your ovaries."
- Daddy DNA Test: Jezebel's father did this, according to Jez's Backstory.
- Word of God says this was how Bernie's mother found out who his biological father was.
- Dark and Troubled Past: Kainashi, Salvation and (most likely) Kurgan Junior all seem to have these.
- Dead Guy, Junior: Kurgan Junior renamed herself after her father.
- Deadpan Snarker: Augustin. Piper occasionally acts like this as well.
- Death by Childbirth: Dusk's mother.
- Ellen's mother. Averted when the doctors revived her a few minutes after she died.
- Deliberately Monochrome: Rowan, with the exception of his hair and one of his eyes.
- Dusk also applies to this, with the exception of his eyes.
- Anurto's shield form is gray and black; the only color he has in this form is his eye.
- Delivery Stork: Jezebel was delivered via this.
- Development Hell: Due to the dreaded Real Life, this took a while to get started.
- Disappeared Dad: Happened with Kurgan Junior, Newt, Salvation, Xavier, Kyle, Dorian, Augustin, Zetta, Fawn and Master II.
- Disproportionate Retribution: After Wilson randomly threw up in his house Thaddeus threatened to set him on fire.
- Does Not Like Shoes: Madigan doesn't wear shoes. Why? Nobody knows. Not even her roleplayer.
- Faeton doesn't wear shoes either.
- Dope Slap: Piper did this to Wilson. Twice.
- Drives Like Crazy: Piper, according to Dusk.
- Drop the Hammer: Brynja has a unique one.
- Dual-Wielding: Piper can wield two umbrellas at once; something she picked up from her dad.
- Ellen has wielded both a baseball bat and a frying pan at the same time. Um, okay...
- Susan has tried wielding a baseball bat and a gun at the same time. Don't ask.
- Eldritch Abomination: Thaddeus has one that live under his sink, named Sinkthulu. He uses Sinkthulu as a living garbage disposal.
- Eloquent in My Native Tongue: Averted with Inochitori.
- Emotionless Girl: Subverted with Inochitori. She can't physically show emotion, but she actually has a wide range of them.
- Even Evil Has Standards: Subverted in a situation between Rowan and Roxy. Later played *ahem* straight when Kyle accused him of being a gay rapist. He claim that he's not gay (despite all evidence to the contrary) and that rape is wrong.
- Thaddeus is a lot of things, but he is not a liar and he does not throw blatant insults around at abandon.
- Everyone Can See It: Dusk's crush on Piper seemed rather obvious to every non-family member who knew them...Except for Wilson.
- Everything's Better with Half-Penguins: Sort of. Isaac's heritage has caused him to be in a few troubling situations in the past, especially when it came to public schooling.
- Everything's Better with Motorcycles: Kyle believes this to be true.
- Everything's Nuttier with Half-Squirrels: Chester gets it from both of his parents; a squirrel and a less-than-sane human, both of which are mad scientists in love.
- Piper; especially since she takes after her father- that is, slightly deranged. (Which is odd considering that her father's the human.)
- Evil Albino: Rowan, though he's not as harsh as some of the others on there.
- Evil-Detecting Dog: Mathew can tell the difference between Xavier's true self and "The Bully".
- Expy: Rowan is similar to Medic and Spy, Xavier was inspired by Ghost Rider, and Thaddeus's mannerisms are similar to the Dorian Gray shown in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and Black Mage.
- Jezebel's armor was based on that of Samus Aran, and some of her personality is similar to Megamind. Her Robot Buddy, Ted, also seems to act similarly to Minion.
- Eye Scream: Madigan tries sewing buttons onto people's eyes when her "other self" takes over.
- She also did this to herself when she cut the button off her eye to get rid of the aforementioned "other self".
F-J
- Face Palm: This has happened quite a bit.
- Facial Markings: Roxy and Wilson both have them.
- Failed a Spot Check: How the hell did Wilson (and his roleplayer) not know that Madigan was twelve?
- Fake Brit: Rowan, for a while.
- Familiar: Thaddeus's is a badger.
- Fantastic Racism: Mathew does not like squirrels. At all.
- Cass doesn't like big people.
- Up to Eleven with Kyle; he doesn't really trust the considerably non-human members of the group.
- Faux Affably Evil: Rowan seems like a nice guy—a bit touchy-feely, and kind of sounds like he's planning to molest you, but he's not too bad. Then you hear him talking about his "project" and pulling out a scalpel...
- Fiery Redhead: Cass and Piper are both like this (though the latter's hair color is actually orange).
- Flower in Her Hair: Yuuka has a bright yellow one in her already yellow hair, according to her creator's fanart of her.
- For Science!: This is usually Chester's motivation.
- Much like all of the alien experiments that he created, Dr. Jumbaa Jookiba seems to have created Siren just to see if he could do it.
- This might also be the case with the mad scientists who interfered with the lives of the parents of Piper, Bernie and Augustin. (Oddly enough, the latter character is the only one out of the three of them to have one of said scientists as his own biological father.)
- This was probably part of Dr. Insano's motivation when he tried cloning himself and he accidentally created Zetta instead.
- Kowalski's main motivation in life, and also as to why he was working on his invention before it backfired and emitted the radiation that caused Hayley to become pregnant with Isaac.
- Four-Temperament Ensemble: The entire group falls into the different categories with considerable ease:
- Sanguine: Siren, Mathew, Madigan, Heather, Fawn
- Choleric: Piper, Kyle, Rowan, Augustin, Kurgan Junior, Salvation, Ellen Junior, Dorian, Susan, Delta, Cass, Faeton
- Melancholic: Thaddeus, Bernie, Xavier, Kainashi, Jim
- Phlegmatic: Wilson, Yuuka, Zetta, Jezebel, Ted
- Phlegmatic II: Inochitori
- Supine: Dusk, Anurto
- Friendless Background: Kainashi, Rowan and Salvation.
- Full-Contact Magic: Thaddeus does this with some of his spells.
- Funny Animal/Petting Zoo People: Mathew, Angelo, Tempest, Augustin, Fawn, Cass, Piper and Siren all fall somewhere under either these or furries.
- Furry Confusion: So much so between Augustin and Cass.
- Gender Blender Name: Kurgan Junior was subject to a lot of Viewer Gender Confusion based on her name, although this may be intentional.
- Girl with Psycho Weapon: Inochitori has a butcher knife as her Weapon of Choice.
- Giving Someone the Pointer Finger: Delon picked this up from his dad.
- Glowing Eyes: Dusk's eyes can glow in the dark.
- Gratuitous French: Augustin speaks in French from time to time.
- Gratuitous German: Fawn sometimes swears in German.
- Green Eyes: Dusk, Augustin, Zetta and one of Rowan's.
- Madigan's true self has green eyes as well.
- Gray Eyes: Kyle has them.
- Hair of Gold: Yuuka and (in an unusual male example) Bernie are both blond.
- Hair-Trigger Temper: What doesn't piss Kyle off?
- Halfbreed: Technically, Kurgan Junior is one. However, this has never been brought up in the roleplay itself.
- Half-Human Hybrid: Most of the Mistakes are this, if they even have a human parent in the first place.
- Happily Adopted: Fawn is a happy adoptee. Master II? Not so much...
- Hazel Eyes: Jezebel and Bernie have them.
- Heroic Bastard: Given that Thaddeus' mother was in a relationship at the time of his conception, he probably counts as this.
- Homage: Quite a few, but most noticably with Kurgan Junior's scenes as they seem to reflect those of her father, The Kurgan...Even if they sometimes don't make sense.
- Homosexual Reproduction: Delta, Cass and Inochitori Have Two Mommies (well had, in Ino's case), Augustin, Kyle, Toby and Rowan Have Two Daddies, the case behind Grover is, uh, slightly questionable...
- Averted with Siren, although she treats it like it still applies to her.
- Averted with Zetta as well under similar circumstances to that of Siren, but not exactly.
- It was averted with Heather as well, though not in the same way as Siren or Zetta.
- Horrible Judge of Character: Madigan and Heather are like this. Mathew can sometimes act like this, too.
- Improbable Species Compatibility: Quite a few of the Mistakes result from these, really.
- Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Dusk (5'9") and Piper (4'2").
- Human Mom, Nonhuman Dad: Played straight with Dusk, Isaac, Marianela and Tempest; inverted with Piper, Chester, Madigan, Angelo, Jezebel, Jennifer, Wilson and Eve.
- Hypocritical Heartwarming: Susan and Dorian have both used this. About each other, no less.
- Hypocritical Humor: This exchange between Kyle and Xavier:
Kyle: Well, where would you suggest we start looking? It's not like the guy's in the motherfucking phone book.
Xavier: Watch your goddamn language!
- After Yuuka screamed loudly, Dorian started shouting at her for how loud she was.
- I Am Not Weasel: Piper doesn't like to be referred to as just a squirrel. She's only half-squirrel.
- I Just Want to Have Friends: Jezebel seems to act like this.
- Imaginary Friends: Jezebel thought that was what The Smurfs were, but in reality Smurfette is her Missing Mom.
- Implacable Woman: Kurgan Junior. It makes some sense, considering that her father was immortal.
- Improbable Weapon User:
- Mathew uses anything from sporks to snapping turtles.
- Madigan fights with a sewing needle.
- Piper somewhat applies since she uses umbrellas, but they are also known to be disguised weapons of destruction (like her dear father's).
- Kainashi can turn most anything into a weapon.
- Susan can turn most anything into a weapon.
- Improvised Weapon: Dusk has used a coat rack as a weapon against Kurgan Junior.
- I Need a Freaking Drink: Kyle says this when he finds out about his...parents.
- Later, "Russel" himself needed one (and understandably so) after dealing with Susan's random interrogation of him.
- Later, Ellen needed one after her fight with her mother about not telling her about her father.
- In Name Only: Jennifer, Dorian, Brynja and Chester may be "Mistakes", but that's only because they were created on a 12 character meme.
- Inscrutable Oriental: Inochitori, in a way.
- Insistent Terminology: Dorian is not a robot, he is "a perfect biological mixture between a youkai and an Aperture Science Personality Construct". For Piper's version of this, see I Am Not Weasel.
- Intangible Man: Both Faeton and Anurto can become intangible.
- Interspecies Romance: Jennifer's father is human, her mother isn't, but they both seem to maintain a healthy relationship.
- Believe it or not, Dorian's parents were in a good relationship before Wheatley got himself into some serious trouble.
- Chester's human Mad Scientist father and his squirrel mother met, slept together, fell in love, she became both insane and evil as a result, they ended up getting married and he was born months later. Glorious.
- Heather's parents aren't exactly romantically involved. Their relationship, for the most part, is an Odd Interspecies Vitriolic Heterosexual Life Partnership. Then, of course, her mouse dad started to develop another level of feelings for her cricket dad, and... Well, to put it simply, they did some things that led to them arguing the next day, which led to the wish being made that eventually brought Heather into being.
- I See Dead People: Kyle can do this. He thinks it's the drugs, though.
- I Take Offense to That Last One: Upon seeing Piper for the first time, Mathew called her unclean, monstrous, unholy and flea-bitten. Guess which one she said wasn't true?
- I Want Grandkids: Given that supernatural beings trace lineage by mentor, this puts a whole new spin on Conquest heckling Thaddeus to get an apprentice.
- I Was Beaten by a Girl: While not physically beaten per se, Ellen did manage to out-drink Kyle at one point, something that the latter felt humiliated with the next morning. Although this was based more on the fact that he was out-drunk at all, the fact that Ellen did this just makes it worse for him.
- Is That What They're Calling It Now?: Ripley says this when Ellen tells Call that she and Kyle "got to know each other" last night.
- Jail Bait: Piper drops the trope's title after Bernie tells Siren that he's only fourteen.
- Jail Bait Wait: Siren asks Bernie to "meet [her] when [he's] legal".
- Joined Your Party: Kyle did this.
- Just Friends: Piper said that she and Dusk were not a couple before they actually did become a couple.
- Madigan and Bernie really are just friends, but Siren (and arguably Thaddeus and Mathew) ships them anyway.
K-O
- Katanas Are Just Better: Kyle and Delon believe this.
- Kill It with Fire: Mathew attempted this on Kurgan Junior. For obvious reasons, it didn't work.
- Ellen had a flamethrower with her at one point and used it against some of the Husks.
- What Ellen, Call, and Ripley almost did to Konrad.
- Kitsch Collection: Delon has a lot of dragon memorabilia.
- Knife Nut: Inochitori.
- Rowan, sort of, although a more accurate term would be Scalpel Nut.
- Lame Comeback: Augustin is bad at coming up with comebacks.
- Laser Blade: Jezebel has one.
- Laughing Mad: Kyle had a brief bout of this when he first learned that he Has Two Daddies.
- Lolicon: Played disturbingly straight with Dusk's parents. However, given how vague his father has been about the details on his mother, it's safe to say that he doesn't know about this.
- Also averted in a really weird way...Wilson said that he loved Madigan, but it's not actually true. His roleplayer said that it was a stupid prank done for laughs, but everyone else thought he was being serious about it.
- Long-Lost Relative: Piper was quite shocked when Jim told her that Salvation was her half-brother.
- Kyle didn't react too well to finding out that Xavier was his half-brother. His reaction included much profanity, and attempted murder.
- Kyle was also surprised when he heard from his Disappeared Dad, "Russel".
- When Bernie's father revealed that Kurgan Junior was technically his step-sister, not only was Bernie shocked, but about half of the group was as well. Kurgan Junior didn't believe it either when she was told about it.
- Lovable Coward: Dusk, Tempest and Danger (the latter is not a mistake, though).
- Love At First Sight: Ted immediately started crushing on Delta when he first saw her.
- Similarly, Rowan became instantly, er, interested in Wilson.
- Love Confession: Dusk did...something like that with Piper. She ended up returning the feelings.
- At one point, Wilson randomly confessed to being in love with Madigan. Nobody likes to talk about it.
- Lovecraftian Superpower: The eight tentacles in Anurto's chest can be used as weapons.
- Love Dodecahedron: Kainashi seems very attached to Rowan, but Rowan is much more interested in Wilson. Jezebel might also arguably like Wilson, but she might also like Thaddeus, whom may like her back. Wilson also had that disturbingly Out-of-Character Moment where he said he liked Madigan (which his roleplayer said was a joke, but since there still seems to be no decent in-canon explanation for said confession...), but Siren ships her with Bernie (which seems to aggravate him). Wilson and Augustin both seemed to show some interest in Ellen Junior, but then she and Kyle ended up becoming an Official Couple. Augustin seemed a bit upset with hearing that, but then Cass came along and he started to take some interest in her (or at least Mathew thinks so, and he seems to be right).
- And that's without bringing up Siren's love for everyone.
- Or Wilson's relationship with his toothbrush.
- Mad Scientist: Rowan and Chester.
- Augustin's "mouse father" was one.
- One of Zetta's fathers was one as well.
- While not a parent to her, there was a mad scientist who managed to get (read: almost force) Piper's parents together (one by the name of Dr. Insano, who just so happens to be Zetta's mad scientist father). Something similar happened when the alternate-universe, mad scientist counterpart of Bernie's father managed to find a way to make his parents get together...without his father's consent.
- Siren's Parental Substitute, Dr. Jumbaa.
- Ellen's father counts, given what she witnessed towards the end of the scrying session after watching her father kidnap her mother.
- Magic Versus Science: Thaddeus is obviously on the side involving magic, some of the others are on the side involving science, and both Jezebel and Bernie are for both.
- Make a Wish: How Heather came to be.
- Maligned Mixed Marriage: KJ's mom (African-American) and Bernie's dad (British caucasian) are Happily Married, but they have reportedly dealt with a few problems that others have had concerning their marriage. It's not been mentioned with any character within the roleplay itself, and given the other kinds of relationships that have been in this, it's not nearly as unusual as some of the other things going on, so even if it does get brought up, nobody will probably be that bothered by it.
- Man Child: Mathew draws fantastically colorful pictures with crayons. Pictures that often depict truly bizarre and sometimes horrifying images.
- Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: Dusk and Piper have this dynamic.
- May–December Romance: Thaddeus's father was in his mid thirties while his mother was in her late twenties when he was born.
- Dusk's parents would be a disturbingly exaggerated version of this (his mother was not a teenager yet, and his father is goodness knows how old). Dusk doesn't know about this, either.
- The age difference between Bernie's parents was about the same as that of Thaddeus' parents. However, there wasn't any actual romance involved in it. At least not on his father's part.
- Meaningful Name: Siren is, fittingly, a beautiful girl (sort of) who can charm most anyone with her voice.
- "Inochitori" is Japanese for "deadly mistake".
- "Kainashi" means "worthless".
- Merlin and Nimue: Thaddeus and Jezebel, though the age difference isn't very large, like some of the other examples.
- Mind Manipulation: Anurto can do this, but it hasn't surfaced yet.
- Mind Rape: Xavier can do this, though it comes with a price...
- Mismatched Eyes: Rowan (one green, one black) and Madigan (one red, one button). This is no longer the case for the latter.
- Missing Mom: Dusk, Kurgan Junior, Roxy, Xavier, Inochitori, Jezebel, Salvation, Mathew, Fawn, Delon, Thaddeus and Bernie.
- Mistaken for Gay: Rowan, until proven otherwise...
- Kainashi, too, after he and Rowan ended up sharing a room in Thaddeus's house.
- Siren suspects that Bernie's father, Reginald, is gay. Given who he mostly resembles (and Siren mistakes him for), it's safe to say that it's not the first time that he's had that happen to him, either.
- Mix-and-Match Critters: There are a couple of these.
- Moment Killer: Dorian does not like having people acting romantic when he's around.
- Motor Mouth: Dorian. Just. Does. Not. Shut. Up.
- Susan is so talkative that Thaddeus had to cast a silencing spell on her just to get her to shut up.
- Mister Seahorse: Happened with poor Augustin's father. Well, one of them...
- Rowan came into being via this, too. No one on either side of his family likes to talk about it.
- Kyle's parents probably had this happen with him too.
- Probably? Confirmed by Word of God.
- Grover's had this happen with him as well.
- Yuuka's dad was the one who gave birth to her. What makes her different from the rest is that her other parent is a woman.
- Multicolored Hair: Inochitori (half brown, half turquoise), Avalon (rose colored with black stripes), Danger (dark purple with black stripes), Jezebel (brown with blonde streaks), Mathew (black and orange tiger stripes), and Faeton (black with white stripes).
- Piper could arguably apply, considering her Furry Female Mane is orange while the rest of her fur is brown (with a couple of orange patches, but they aren't usually visible).
- Mundane Utility: The Eldritch Abomination under Thaddeus's sink serves as a garbage disposal.
- Murder the Hypotenuse: Rowan plans on doing this to Wilson's toothbrush, an object that the latter seems to pay much more attention to than...most anyone else, really. Which would technically make this an odd justified case.
- Mysterious Past: A few of the Mistakes have these.
- Nakama: What Mathew is trying to get the Mistakes to become.
- Natural Weapon: Siren's claws (which are conveniently hidden under her gloves).
- Necromancer: Thaddeus. Xavier is a better example of a "historical" necromancer who deals with shades for information.
- Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: Once you get over the Squick involved in their conceptions, a lot of the Mistakes are really cool hybrids.
- No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Kurgan Junior gave one to Dorian, something that even upset Susan, who says that it doesn't prove that she loves him.
- No Kill Like Overkill: When Thaddeus kills someone, there's no evidence left to prove that he did it.
- Noodle Incident: It's never fully understood what exactly was said in the conversation between Augustin and the fifth Russel Nash, but we probably don't want to know what he said, either...
- We know that Siren was almost successful in seducing Piper's father and that she stopped it, but we don't know much about it aside from that. According to what Kyle and Xavier found out about it, the details are probably better left unsaid.
- Not That Kind of Mage: Not many people seem to understand what Thaddeus does.
- Not What It Looks Like: During the fight with KJ, Ellen and Kyle accidentally land in a rather awkward position.
- Oblivious to Love: Wilson. Dear God, Wilson. Not only is he oblivious to others who love him, but he seems to be oblivious to others who are in love in general. (See also: The Last of These Is Not Like the Others.)
- Piper was oblivious to Dusk's crush on her until he finally spit it out. It was more obvious to a few others.
- Odd Name Out: Kurgan Junior's, until proven otherwise; concerning the little family chain she's in, her mother's name is Anna, her technical step-father's name is Reginald, and her step-brother's name is Bernie, all of which are related to musicians of a sort. However, her own roleplayer never thought of a real name for her until some of the others mentioned Tina being a decent one. Even then, it still applies given that she renamed herself after her dead dad.
- Official Couple: Dusk Boogie and Piper Cheeks.
- Later, Kyle Macleod and Ellen "Newt" Ripley Junior.
- And even later, Xavier Draven and Yuuka Kralie.
- Older Than They Look: Dorian looks about thirteen, but he's really somewhere between his late sixties and early seventies.
- Siren suggested that it might have been the case with Bernie in a pathetic attempt to justify her sudden interest in him, to which he immediately tells her that he really is only fourteen.
- Kurgan Junior is a less obvious version; she appears to be in her late teens or early twenties, but she's technically twenty-six.
- Master II is one-hundred years old and he doesn't look like it at all.
- Nana-tsuki may look about twenty-six, but he's actually over four-hundred years old.
- Kyle's dad "Russel Nash", for sure.
- Omnicidal Maniac: Salvation takes after his father - who just happens to be Harbinger.
- Kainashi is one, as well.
- Only Sane Man: Out of all of the "Mistakes", Yuuka comes the closest to being sane.
- Jim, in his own opinion. In truth, he's actually more like the Unfazed Everyman.
- Our Ghosts Are Different: Anurto is a ghost-like alien hybrid.
- Our Vampires Are Different: This one feeds on human emotion, is a wraith that has risen from the dead, is immune to sunlight, and loves snuggles.
P-T
- Paper-Thin Disguise: Rowan tries disguising himself by turning his coat inside-out, wearing gloves, sunglasses, speaking with a fake British accent and calling himself Keith.
- Parental Abandonment: Salvation's father disowned him for being "half-organic."
- Xavier's mother also dropped him off in the Shadowlands and fled into the night.
- Bernie's mother left him with his father. (Not that either of them mind.)
- Zetta's father (well, one of them) traded her off to the other parent.
- It was arguably what happened with Kurgan Junior's mom, but as it turned out a Mad Scientist separated the two of them and dropped her mother off in a completely different time, leaving KJ by herself in her own time.
- Parental Favoritism: Faeton's father prefers her over her brother, Anurto, much to her dislike.
- Parental Substitute: Siren was raised by her creator Dr. Jumbaa Jookiba.
- Kyle had one as well in the form of a woman named Amanda Reese.
- Thaddeus was raised by foster parents, for a chunk of his life.
- Inochitori was raised by the Vocaloids due to the fact that both of her parents are dead.
- Master II has had many adoptive parents over the years.
- Parody Sue: Siren is supposed to be one.
- Patchwork Kids: A lot of the Mistakes work this way.
- Portmanteau: Augustin's species name, "mourat", is a combination of "mouse" and "rat", the two respectful species of his, er, parents.
- Similarly, Word of God has refered to Mathew as a "wolfer", a wolf-tiger.
- Fawn's creator calls her species "reincat" as a combination of reindeer and cat.
- Heather's roleplayer has refered to her as a "crickouse", a cricket-mouse.
- Powered Armor: Jezebel has a battle suit that is gray with light blue accents. It comes with a Cool Helmet, too.
- Power Perversion Potential: Kyle encourages Xavier to do this with his "synching" abilities. No one is amused by this.
- Professor Half-Squirrel: Chester performed many of his experiments on himself.
- Psychic Powers: Xavier has quite a few different psychic abilities.
- Through testing his own experiments on himself, Chester managed to gain the ability to use Telepathy. However, he cannot use this power for very long elseways he'll be weakened.
- Faeton has a form of Telekinesis that she inherited from her father.
- Put on a Bus: Angelo Kisaragi.
- Roxy Krueger, too.
- Quizzical Tilt: Augustin and Mathew are prone to doing these.
- Madigan's done this twice; first at the coffee shop, then later at Thaddeus's house, which was shortly followed up with a Big "What?" upon finding out that Bernie and Kurgan Junior were long-lost step-siblings.
- Dusk did this once when he heard that Rowan wanted to borrow something from Wilson while the latter was sleeping.
- Heather has done this at least once.
- Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: Played with quite a bit.
- Reference Overdosed: It has its own Shout-Out page!
- Relationship Upgrade: Piper and Dusk went from being Just Friends to Official Couple.
- Revolvers Are Just Better: Xavier seems to think so.
- Right Behind Me: Xavier calls Jim a Robosexual...as Jim is standing behind him.
- Robot Buddy: Jezebel has one named Ted (short for Technical Evaluation Droid).
- Running Gag: "Deformed Flipper Person", "Deformed Flipper Babies", and all it's other variations. Often coupled with I'm Going to Hell For This.
- This phrase could and is actually used to describe Piper's father, who is, in fact, a deformed flipper person. (You wouldn't want to say that to her face, though.) The phrase could be used on her as well.
- It seems many people think that Rowan is gay. His reaction to this? Angrily shouting "I AM NOT A HOMOSEXUAL!"
- Dusk's repeated insistence that Piper is not to drive.
- The gang's suspicions on how close Wilson really is with his toothbrush.
- Thaddeus' roleplayer seems to have a thing for mentioning squids with bat-wings.
- She Is Not My Girlfriend: He never specifically drops the title, but Bernie has made it clear that Madigan is not his girlfriend.
- Gender-flipped between Piper and Dusk towards the beginning of the roleplay.
- Shipper on Deck: Siren seems to like shipping Bernie with Madigan. Thaddeus and Mathew might be having similar thoughts, but it's not entirely clear if they are or not (not even to their roleplayer).
- Siren also seems to be shipping Rowan with Wilson (and Bernie's dad, at one point).
- Mathew is clearly shipping Augustin with Cass.
- Ship Sinking: Whatever chance that there was for Rowan to hook up with Wilson was demolished after Rowan caught Wilson with Siren and then tried to kill him.
- Before Ellen began dating Kyle, Augustin expressed interest in her. However, Augustin ended up with Cass.
- Ship Tease: Well, with a cast this big, there's plenty, intended or otherwise.
- Shotacon: Averted when Siren tries making advances on Bernie and he's clearly not comfortable with it.
- Shown Their Work: Augustin's roleplayer has done research on mice and rats in order to know more about both and know more about some of the physical aspects that he would inherit.
- Similarly, Mathew's roleplayer has done his research on wolves for Mathew, badgers for Tumnus, and mice for Cass.
- Shrinking Violet: Dusk (though now he doesn't act quite as shy as before), Tempest, Anurto, Zetta and Danger (the latter of which is not a "mistake").
- Slap Slap Kiss: Although it was more of a Slap-Kick to the Groin-Kiss between Augustin and Cass...
- Split Personality: Madigan.
- Xavier, to an extent.
- Spoiled Brat: Dorian's mother has spoiled him too much.
- Chester's parents have done this to him as well.
- Averted with Faeton; her father tries spoiling her, but she doesn't accept it.
- Strong Family Resemblance: Jennifer looks very much like her mother, Lucy.
- Kyle looks a lot like his dad, Connor MacLeod/"Russel Nash".
- Xavier's looks are identical to those of his father, Eric Draven.
- The Master II resembles actor Anthony Ainley whom played The Master in the classic episodes of Doctor Who. However, he doesn't have a beard like his father.
- Bernie looks an awful lot like a younger, blond version of his dad, Reginald Stewart.
- Dusk looks so similar to his dad, Oogie Boogie, that some of the roleplayers have assumed that he's also dead/undead and has burlap skin. His roleplayer is a bit irked by said assumptions.
- Ellen Junior looks like her mother, Ellen Ripley.
- Suspiciously Specific Denial: Rowan says that he's straight; honest!
- Also, all of Rowan's patients? Yeah, they all definitely died on accident. Yep; every single one of them.
- Susan's comment about being the only one allowed to beat up Dorian is not an indication that she likes him, no way.
- Sweet Tooth: Yuuka has one for brownies.
- Teach Him Anger: Mathew had to go through this when confronting Kurgan Junior.
- Team Mom: Piper, arguably.
- Team Pet: Mathew and/or his parrot, Squawky.
- Tell Me About My Father: Part of why some of the "mistakes" were at the Shady Abortion Clinic, though Dusk's reason for being there was a gender-flipped case.
- Ellen Junior eventually found out about her father and what happened to him.
- Delon and Fawn would also like to know more about their fathers (and Fawn wants to know more about her Missing Mom as well).
- The Alcoholic: Kyle is this. As is Rowan, who is considerably more lighthearted about it.
- The Alleged Car: Jim's pick-up truck, evidently.
- The Apprentice: Bernie, now that he's studying under Thaddeus.
- Faeton was her father's apprentice, for a while.
- The Last of These Is Not Like the Others: When Dusk was listing off certain events that Delta missed, he mentioned that Kyle and Xavier were long lost half-brothers, "Keith" was someone they recruited to drive Kyle's bike back from the bar, Kyle's father talked to someone who sent a group of Husks after them, and that Wilson wet his pants (Piper shortly afterwards explained that he just had a drink spilled on him at the bar). Okay...Why was that last one important?
- When Piper asked Dusk how many people they knew didn't know that he had a crush on her, Dusk lists off his father, Piper's closest relatives (including her father's parents and sister, who in this case are Veronica Vreeland, a previous generation of The Penguin, and Bunny Vreeland) and Wilson (to which she says she's not surprised). The last one is the only non-relative of either of their families that he mentions.
- The Load: Wilson Wilson. He's half-Jedi, his wounds can heal themselves within twenty-four hours, but he is cowardly and hesitant, so he doesn't seem to live up to his full potential. Some of the other characters are trying to change this.
- Yuuka, though she hates herself for it. In her defense, she is a fairly average teenager who doesn't have any sort of unique powers or strengths like some of the others.
- The Matchmaker: Siren, of all people, occassionally does this when she can't get someone for herself (usually with an underlying hope for a possible threesome later).
- The Mean Brit: Not really played straight at first; Rowan pretended to be one for a while, but he isn't really British, and Bernie, who really is British (well, half), isn't mean. However, it is played straight with Dorian, who is both British and a tremendous pain in the ass.
- The Nicknamer: Kyle. He rarely calls anyone by their actual name.
- The Obi-Wan: "Russel Nash" acts as this for the mistakes.
- The Power of Rock: Xavier has it.
- The Smart Guy: Kyle has dubbed Augustin as such.
- The Ugly Guy's Hot Daughter: Piper, Faeton, and Kurgan Junior look quite pretty in their concept art, despite their respective fathers being a deformed flipper person, a creepy-looking alien, and a barbaric immortal.
- The Unfavorite: Anurto is his father's unfavorite, as he prefers Faeton.
- Mathew is Kate's unfavorite.
- Xun Li is the unfavorite of his mother, Ginger, which has a rather disastrous result...
- Wilson has been (jokingly) called his roleplayer's unfavorite due to the severe lack of attention and Character Development that he gives him in comparison to the rest of his characters.
- This has now been confirmed as true; he even admitted that he should've given him to someone else.
- This Is for Emphasis, Bitch: Kyle's done this a few times...
Kyle: Bitch, I'm fucking immortal.
- This Is Wrong on So Many Levels: Kyle and Thaddeus said something along those lines with Wilson's Out of Character confession of love for Madigan.
- Through the Eyes of Madness: Inochitori's role-player does this with her character.
- Token Evil Teammate: Rowan. He didn't so much execute a Heel Face Turn as decide that betraying the heroes would be harmful to his health.
- Token Human: For the longest time, Jim, the owner of the Shady Abortion Clinic, was the only average human out of all of the roleplay characters. In a way, he still could be seen as such.
- Took a Level in Badass: Before the roleplay started, Jim was usually just an unfortunate guy who had to see all sorts of weird stuff at his clinic and often suffered for it in one way or another. However, once the roleplay actually started, his roleplayer got to show his true colors as a man capable of holding his own with a gun.
- Piper and Kyle have been trying to get Wilson to do this so he can stop being The Load. So far there's been some success.
- Trademark Favorite Food: Rowan loves Skittles (and Skittle vodka), Avalon loves apple pies, Heather loves cinnamon sticks, Delon likes pizza and Faygo, and Kyle has an on/off love affair with french fries.
- Triang Relations: Given the current romantic situation, there's a few of these.
- Tsundere: Yuuka, minus the romantic reasoning.
- Susan seems to act like this for Dorian.
- Dorian is a male version, at least towards Susan.
- Twin Telepathy: Faeton and Anurto have something like this.
U-Z
- Unexplained Recovery: Kurgan Junior sliced open Wilson's throat at one point and yet shortly afterwards he seemed completely fine and nobody even seemed to comment on it. Of course, Word of God said that he can recover from certain injuries within twenty-four hours, but his sudden recovery happened within a span of mere minutes!
- Unfortunate Names: Inochitori ("deadly mistake") and Kainashi ("worthless").
- Vague Age: Jim is obviously older than most of the Mistakes, but his age has never been truly defined, and his roleplayer would like it to stay that way.
- Voice Changeling: Jezebel's Cool Helmet gives her the ability to change her voice.
- Weapon of Choice: Kurgan Junior's broadsword, Kyle's katana and shotgun, Xavier's Colt Police Positive, Rowan's scalpel, Madigan's sewing needle, Inochitori's butcher knife, and Piper's trick umbrellas.
- Weirdness Magnet: Mathew has a tendency to attract really weird stuff.
- "Well Done, Son" Guy/"Well Done, Daughter" Gal: Piper, Dusk, Madigan, Salvation and Grover all apply to this trope.
- What Happened to the Mouse?: Angelo Kisaragi appeared a grand total of once, and has not even been mentioned since.
- Roxy had a few appearances near the beginning, but she hasn't appeared since then.
- Who Names Their Kid "Dude"?: Augustin's reaction to finding that "Inochitori" means "deadly mistake" in Japanese.
- Augustin had another reaction to finding out that there's a family on planet Spaceball named "Asshole".
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Squirrels, in Mathew's case. Extreme heights, in Augustin's case.
- Wicked Stepmother: Averted and inverted with Bernie's stepmom. She's nicer to him than his real mom was...and she's also nicer than she was to her own Child by Rape; Kurgan Junior (then again she never got the chance to connect with her own child).
- Woman Scorned: Played with very oddly, with Piper, who, instead of taking it out on the man(her father, in this instance)in the equation, has developed a vendetta against a woman who attempted to seduce him (Siren.
- Woman On Fire: Mathew set Kurgan Junior on fire at one point. It didn't slow her down.
- Younger Than They Look: Xavier is technically eight, but he appears to be about twenty.
- Siren appears to be in her early to mid twenties, but she's really only four years old. Now think about her past "encounters". All of them.
- Mathew is two, but in dog years he's technically fourteen.
- Zetta was "born" looking about eleven or twelve, and now she's about sixteen or seventeen. Technically, she's really five.
- Brynja looks about thirty years old, but she's actually fifteen.
- Heather is a less-than-obvious example; she was "born" with the looks and the mentality of a three year old, and has now aged four and a half years to make her seven and a half.
