T-Cross Breeze concept (2016)

Volkswagen T-Cross Breeze concept

A first preview of an SUV model, in the format of Volkswagen Polo, was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016, as the concept car VW T-Cross Breeze.

This vehicle is, in contrast to the production version, a four seater convertible with a fabric top. Externally, it resembles the VW T-Roc Concept presented two years earlier. The T-Cross Breeze is 4.13 metres (13 ft 7 in) long, 1.80 metres (5 ft 11 in) wide and 1.56 metres (5 ft 1 in) high.

The concept vehicle is powered by a one litre TSI engine with 81 kW (109 hp) and 175 N⋅m (129 lbf⋅ft) of torque. The T-Cross Breeze is expected to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 10.3 seconds, with the top speed being 188 km/h (117 mph). The standard consumption should be 5.0 litres per 100 km.[2]

Production version

The production vehicle was officially launched on 25 October 2018 in Amsterdam, Shanghai and São Paulo. From 19 April 2019, the T-Cross is to be delivered. Early models included 1.0 L TSI (95 PS, 115 PS), 1.5 L TSI (150 PS), 1.6 L TDI (95 PS).[3] 1.5 L TSI (150 PS) was added in the market in Germany in 2019.[4]

T-Cross First Edition

1st Edition models are based on T-Cross Style 1.0 L TSI (115 PS) with 150 and 50 vehicles in manual and dual clutch gearboxes respectively, which were available as part of a lottery.[5]

Long wheelbase versions

Volkswagen T-Cross (China)

The model is produced in China and Brazil with a modified length of 4.2 m and a longer wheelbase of 2.65 m, improving interior space and cargo volume.[6][7] These models also have different front fascias and steering wheels from the variant sold in Europe.

Mexico

The model built in Brazil is exported to Mexico with a 1.6 litre engine, able to generate 82.0 kW (110 hp) and 114 lb⋅ft (155 N⋅m), associated with the Tiptronic six speed automatic transmission. It is the second car in Volkswagen's Mexican lineup to use the all new modular MQB A0 platform (the first in the brand being the Virtus), also used on the SEAT Arona and Ibiza, and the Volkswagen Virtus, Polo, and Tarok.

It also comes with a 6.5" Composition Media and Apple CarPlay infotainment system, six airbags, ABS brakes and electronic stability control, and automatic post collision braking will be available in all versions. It obtained a five star rating by Latin NCAP. It arrived to the market in Mexico on 17 September 2019. Prices come between MXN$344,000 and MXN$459,990.[8]
