Route description

The western terminus of South Carolina Highway 183 is with its junction with U.S. Route 76 and U.S. Route 123 in Westminster, South Carolina. It travels north to Walhalla and then east to meet South Carolina Highway 130 for a short concurrency on Rochester Highway near the Oconee Nuclear Station at Lake Keowee in Seneca in Oconee County.[2][3] The road, known as East Pickens Highway, moves east by northeast over a tributary that feeds into Lake Hartwell where the road name changes to Walhalla Highway as the highway enters Pickens County, 1.22 mi (1.96 km) eastward.[4] Upon entering Pickens County, SC, the highway travels 4.3 mi (6.9 km) north by northeast before intersecting at South Carolina Highway 133.[4] Highway 183 moves 2.1 mi (3.4 km) where it intersects at Six Mile Road, the northern terminus of South Carolina Highway 137.[4] Taveling east by northeast on Walhalla Highway, SC 183 goes 5.8 mi (9.3 km) before reaching downtown Pickens, the county seat. SC runs concurrently with U.S. Highway 178 through downtown Pickens on Main street for 0.02 mi (0.032 km) on East Main Street.[4] The highway runs 0.19 mi (0.31 km) where it intersects at South Carolina Highway 8 (SC 8).[4] Traveling concurrently with SC 8 for 0.44 mi (0.71 km) northeastward on Jewel Road, SC 183 splits off from SC 8 to become Farrs Bridge Road.[4] SC 183 moves 5.64 mi (9.08 km) where it intersects with South Carolina Highway 135 at Dacusville Road.[4] It then moves eastward 8.32 mi (13.39 km) where SC 183 intersects U.S. Highway 25 (US 25) at West Duncan Road in Greenville County, crossing over the Saluda River in the process.[4][5] Traveling southeastward for 0.91 mi (1.46 km), SC 183 drives into the Berea CDP in Greenville County.[5] Once SC 183 passes West Parker Road, the road names changes to Cedar Lane Road, then travels an additional 1.70 mi (2.74 km) to reach West Blue Ridge Drive at South Carolina Highway 253.[5] SC 183 travels an additional 1.79 mi (2.88 km) southeast where it intersects US 25 in downtown Greenville at Rutherford Street.[5] It finally terminates at U.S. Highway 123 at North Academy Street in downtown Greenville a further 0.41 mi (0.66 km) southeast.[1][5][6]
