History

The Department of Environmental Management (DEM), now the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), bought the former, privately run Lake Wyola Park from Emelia Bennett in 1997, and named it for Carroll Holmes, a former Shutesbury selectman and director of DEM's Region IV.

Activities and amenities

  • The park's 40 acres (16 ha) include trails for walking, hiking, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing, restrooms, picnic grounds, and a beach.
  • Lake Wyola's 128 acres (52 ha) provide opportunities for swimming, fishing, and boating.

gollark: Oh, and Rust has that nice thing where you can't keep around both a mutable reference and immutable references to stuff.
gollark: I'm not a C++ologist, so what happens if you, say, allocate a hash map in a function, then return a reference to an element in that hashmap?
gollark: Not really. Any pointer handling or whatever can be unsafe.
gollark: Except Rust guarantees it unless you *explicitly say otherwise*.
