Kunovice (Czech pronunciation: [ˈkunovɪtsɛ], German: Kunowitz) is a town in the Uherské Hradiště District, Zlín Region, Czech Republic.

History

Church of Saints Peter and Paul

The first written records of Kunovice date back to 1196.

Until 1918, Kunowitz - Kunovice was part of the Austrian monarchy (Austria side after the compromise of 1867), in the Ungarisch Hradisch - Uherské Hradiště district, one of the 34 Bezirkshauptmannschaften in Moravia.[2]

A post office was opened in 1869. Kunovice gained the official status of a town in 1997.

Economy

Since 1936, aircraft manufacturer Aircraft Industries (formerly Let Kunovice) has been based at Kunovice Airport near the town. The airport also hosts aircraft manufacturers Czech Sport Aircraft and Evektor-Aerotechnik. It is designated as an international airport.

Points of interest

A main tourist attraction in Kunovice is the Kunovice Aviation Museum, located at the town's airport.
