Class Description
This class is of "open" design, meaning that it does not represent a fixed boat design. It allows any design provided it meets the class restrictions.[2]
Design restrictions include the length (between 59 and 60 feet (18 m)) and maximum draft (4.5 metres (15 ft)). There are no explicit restrictions on beam, mast height or sail area. There are rules for flotation, self-righting capability, and safety and survival equipment.
It is one of several classes that are defined by a "box rule", which provides its limiting design parameters.[3]
This class is recognised by World Sailing.[4]
History
The rule was first set as a "Recognised Class" in 1998. In 2001, the rule was registered as an "International Class". It underwent a revision in April 2008.[2]
