Bhola Sadar Upazila

Bhola Sadar (Bengali: ভোলা সদর) is an Upazila of Bhola District in the Division of Barisal, Bangladesh.[1]

Geography

Bhola Sadar is located at 22.6903°N 90.6525°E / 22.6903; 90.6525. It has 62,042 households and a total area of 413.16 km2 (159.52 sq mi).

Demographics

According to the 1991 Bangladesh census, Bhola Sadar had a population of 351,674. Males constitute 51.94% of the population, and females 48.06%. The population aged 18 or over was 160,353. Bhola Sadar had an average literacy rate of 25.8% (7+ years), compared to the national average of 32.4%.[2]

Bhola Sadar has 16 Unions/Wards, 123 Mauzas/Mahallas, and 123 villages.

Notable residents

  • Tofael Ahmed, the Member of Parliament (MP) for constituency Bakerganj-1 from 1973 to 1975,[3] for Bhola-2 from 1986 to 1988,[4] for Bhola-1 from 1991 to 1996,[5] and for Bhola-2 again from 1996 to 2001 and 2009 until 2014,[6][7] has been MP for constituency Bhola-1 again since 2014.[8]
  • Andaleeve Rahman Partho was Member of Parliament for constituency Bhola-1 from 2009 to 2014.[7]
  • Sayed Kamaluddin Zafree, Islamic scholar, was born in Bhola.[9]
