Summary

The club finished in a disappointing fourth place in League Table five points behind Champion Atletico Madrid.[1] Meanwhile, in Copa del Generalísimo the team was early eliminated in Eightfinals by Sporting Gijon losing the away game 0-1 and a miserable draw 1–1 at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.[2] The squad reached the semifinals in European Cup and was defeating the two games of the series by future three-consecutive Champions of the tournament Ajax Amsterdam.[3] President Santiago Bernabeu attended the Final himself expecting to sign Ajax starplayer Johan Cruyff who instead was signed by archrivals CF Barcelona during summer.[4]
