- February 3 – Booth's Theatre, New York City, United States.
- May 12 – Chapel of St John's College, Cambridge, England, designed by George Gilbert Scott, consecrated.
- May 25 – Vienna State Opera, constructed by Josef Hlávka to designs by August Sicard von Sicardsburg and Eduard van der Nüll. van der Nüll hanged himself in 1868 in disappointment at the public reaction to the design and von Sicardsburg died of tuberculosis a few months later.
- June – Yasukuni Shrine, Tokyo, Japan.[1]

gollark: I'm very slowly writing my own note-handling software because of things I dislike about all of the existing stuff. It all seems to be at least one of: very complicated software which is likely hard to maintain over the long term; lacking in capabilities like good backlinks and search; accursedly proprietary; not usable as a serverside application; seemingly data-lossy.
gollark: That is impressively fast distraction-switching.
gollark: I don't understand this analogy.
gollark: There are subdued-looking ones without much or any RGB.
gollark: It is, however, a 2.4kg ominous cuboid with fairly loud fans.
