Ashbound Fallen

An ashbound zombie, marching forward to do its master's bidding.

3e Summary::Sometimes undead aren't just rotting corpses that have been animated to follow another: sometimes, corpses get burnt to cinders before becoming undead. These undead are often referred to as the "ashbound fallen" and are rightly feared for their torrid prowess. Ashbound fallen are most commonly found in deserts and within the craters of volcanoes, where their bodies roast naturally, though it is not uncommon to see them in dungeons, where they have been purposefully made.

Creating a Ashbound Fallen

Ashbound fallen is an acquired template that can be applied to any undead creature whose body has spent 3 or more continuous days exposed to temperatures above 130 degrees Fahrenheit without any way of enduring the temperature, referred to here after as the base creature. There may be other ways to add this template to an undead creature, but they are subject to the DM's discretion.

Stat Changes

Size and Type: The creature’s size and type do not change, but it gains the fire subtype.

Speed: An ashbound fallen multiplies its speed in any mode of movement it has by 1.5, as heavy shells burn off and bones become lighter.

Armor Class: An ashbound fallen's natural armor decreases by 2.

Damage: An ashbound fallen inflicts an additional 1d8 fire damage with any physical attack it makes.

Special Qualities: An ashbound fallen gains the following special qualities. Additionally, if any of the special qualities gained from this template conflict with the creatures original special qualities, they lose the original special qualities and gain the new ones granted through this template.

Immunity to Fire: An ashbound fallen never takes fire damage.
Vulnerability to Cold: An ashbound fallen takes half again as much (+50%) damage as normal from any source that deals cold damage.

Abilities: Increase from the base creature as follows: Dex +2.

Environment: Changes to any warm location.

Special: This template and the rimebound fallen template cannot be applied to the same creature.

gollark: Well, kind of.
gollark: That's the idea.
gollark: But if we *all* breed there'll be fun variation and more flooding!
gollark: So: at 18:00 GMT tomorrow, everyone with a stupid amount of a dragon, please breed them.
