Regular Edition

General

  • Take a shot for every Averted Trope you find.
  • Down half a Guinness whenever the wiki spoils something you were already viewing/playing/reading/learning on your own and didn't want to know before it was the due time.
    • Finish the Guinness and spoiler mark the offending entry if it gets treated like an It Was His Sled.
  • Take a six-pack when you see a brand new example on the top of the page.
    • So that's 2 six packs so far.
      • Let's turn this into a Running Gag and keep count below.
        • Right here.
          • Do note that the reason that this hasn't been updated for several weeks is because troper # 2 died from the sheer volumes of their beer intake on that fateful night.
  • Take a hearty swig every time you can guess the trope that an example links to
  • Take a mouthful for every new trope article that gets started without being first run through YKTTW.
    • If said article is actually worth keeping around, rather than instant Cut List fodder, finish that bottle off.
  • Take a sip every time a troper puts "enough said" rather than an actual context.
    • Two sips if you don't get it.
      • Three if you do.
        • Four if you do and it's wrong.
          • Five if somebody else elaborates while subtly snarking at the original edit's lack of context.
            • Back to three if they don't subtly snark.
              • Add a sip if nobody's marked it with {{context}}.
  • Take a sip for every trope page with a header quote from:
  • Pour your drink into another glass and take a sip if the page contains a link to itself. (And then tell the mods, because MediaWiki shouldn't let this happen.)
    • Pour your drink into another glass, then back to the first one, then take a sip if the page contains a link to an alt title of itself. (Unlike a straight link-to-itself case, this one can happen.)
  • Take a sip for every example that misuses the words "subverted", "inverted", "averted", or "justified".
    • Take a sip for every example that starts with "parodied" and reads exactly like a straight use of the trope.
    • Use a sippy straw if the word "partially" comes before one of those words.
  • Take a sip every time a trope is subverted "brutally" or "painfully".
    • Or "wonderfully" or "brilliantly," and another sip if the example is actually completely ordinary.
    • Take an extra sip for "subverted hard." If "hard" isn't in italics, you don't even need to bother.
  • (Take a swig when you see an explanation written in parentheses by an inexperienced troper.)
    • Take two if you used to do it.
      • Take three if reading this taught you that putting explanations in parentheses is improper.
        • Down a glass if the entire page is written like this.
  • Take a sip when something is said to be "Lampshaded" because a trope was simply mentioned in the work, but not because it was actually pointed out in an attempt to hide it.
    • Take another if you take issue with calling Lampshading "an attempt to hide" a trope.
  • Take a sip for every Pot Holed Take That.
  • Make someone else take a sip if they look at this from behind your back.
    • Two sips if that person is your employer. Then quick link to Oh Crap.
  • Take a sip for every article that references Applied Phlebotinum, Lampshade Hanging, The Oldest Ones in the Book or some other essential piece of wiki lore without linking to the relevant article.
  • Take a sip while tilting your head sideways every time somebody doesn't italicise a series title. Then correct it.
  • Take a big gulp whenever the Redshirt Army is mentioned in a trope example scenario.
    • And another if the Big Bad is mentioned.
  • Take a sip every time you see a trope red-texted by a misspelling; then correct it.
    • And then take another sip, because, being stone-drunk from playing the game, it'll be even more horribly misspelled.
    • Chug when accidental (and unnecessarily-spaced) red text is created by a non-trope word—like McDonald.
  • And speaking of The Game...take a sip every time you lose. Then take another if a particular mention of The Game also mentions the liberating xkcd strip.
  • Shout "Kanpai!" and take a sip every time somebody uses the Japanese name for an Anime or Manga instead of the English name.
  • If you're American, take a sip every time you see British spelling; if you follow British spelling, take half a sip every time you see American spelling. Take two every time you read a trope that has both 'colour' and 'color' in it. If it has both 'cheque' and 'check', hold a glass high and sing "Rule, Britannia!" or "America the Beautiful" (whichever one you don't live in).
    • Getting your friends and / or family to join in is optional.
    • If you don't live in either, sing both, one after the other, in whatever order you choose.
      • If you're Australian, sing 'Advance Australia Fair', and then switch midway into 'Waltzing Matilda' when you realise you don't know half the worlds of the national anthem.
    • Alternatively, sing "My Country, 'Tis of Thee" if British, and "God Save the Queen" if American.
      • Pointless trivia: The title of the American version is "America." (Also, take a drink whenever someone corrects a comment in a new bullet instead of just correcting the original comment.)
    • If you're Canadian, take a drink for both American and British spelling. You use both, you drink to both. And then sing either national anthem.
      • Or your own, in both official languages.
      • Drink another time if you are able to sing it in Inuktitut.
        • And once more if you know "The Maple Leaf Forever."
    • Then take a sip for every time someone mixes up you're and your. Not for any good reason, just because it's the only way to deal with it.
    • Or, alternatively, feel free to belt out "YOU'RE A..." [large sip] "...GRAND OLD..." [gulp] "...RAG, YOU'RE A..." [slurp] "...HIGH-FLYING..." [swig] "RAAAAAAAAAAG~" if it happens more than twice for British spelling. Whether you're British or not.
    • Take a sip every time somebody edits just to change American spelling/punctuation to British or vice versa.
  • Take a sip every time an example is given without a link.
  • Take a sip every time This Troper shows up to give a very subjective opinion and/or relate an anecdote from their own life (and you're not in Troper Tales).
    • Take another sip if the troper in question gives their name or links to their contributor page.
    • Drink the whole glass if another This Troper replies to agree/disagree with the opinion or to say that something similar happened to them, too.
      • Or if the original troper is just saying that the trope has happened to him, and doesn't even have an anecdote.
        • This Troper had to take a drink there. Just sayin'
    • Take another sip if "This Troper" is actually a pothole link to someone's contributor page.
    • Take two sips if This Troper relates how shocked, SHOCKED, they are that an example from their favorite series hasn't already been added.
      • Take three sips if This Troper was right to expect said example to be mentioned sooner.
      • Finish the bottle if said example has been mentioned already.
      • Two bottles if you were the one to add the example and forgot about it.
      • Three if has been mentioned before and the reason it's not there anymore was because it wasn't a real example.
      • Four if you haven't yet died of alcohol poisoning.
        • For the personal safety of those who actually want to try this drinking game, change "bottle" in the above four steps to "glass". And for that matter, omit the last one entirely.
        • If you don't care about the personal safety of those trying this drinking game, suggest they trade up. If they want to try it with beer, suggest Jack Daniels as an alternative. If they want to try it with Jack Daniels, suggest absinthe. If they want to try it with absinthe, call the men in the white coats.
    • However you're playing, double your intake if there's a Pothole to Casablanca when the troper is talking about how shocked they are.
  • Take a drink every time a page lists Crowning Music of Awesome on a given page with some variation of the phrase "the whole soundtrack."
  • Take a sip every time a troper replies to and contradicts a previous troper in a trope example. Then correct it.
    • Actually, you're supposed to bang two glasses together and sip once from each.
  • Take a drink for every example that consists of "Two Words: <something>". (These tend to be Zero Context Examples, as such, fix them while you are at it if you know enough about the example)
    • Also take a drink for each example that consists of "<something>. Full Stop."
    • Also take a drink for each example that consists of "<something>. That is all."
    • Also take a drink for each example that consists of "<something>. Nuff Said."
    • Also take a drink for each example that consists of "<something>. There, I said it."
    • Also drink for "X has this in spades". Two Drinks if there's nothing else there.
    • Also drink for "X is the king of this trope". Three if it's "the undisputed king of this trope".
    • Also drink for "X is made of this trope".
    • Also drink for "X breathes this trope".
    • Also drink if it's "X Just X".
    • Take two drinks if the X is a potholed quote or character name rather than a title.
    • Drain your glass if you can't actually puzzle out what exactly is being referred to without mouse-overing the link.
    • Take a drink for an example that consists of "<something>, anyone?", anyone?
      • And pour yourself another if you still can't figure out what the two "obvious" words mean when you have viewed the pothole. Same if there is no pothole.
      • Take a sip if it links to Two Words: Obvious Trope or X Just X.
      • Drink the bottle if you figured it out and feel superior for it.
    • Drink the bottle if it's really three words.
    • Take a sip if the example says "Full stop" or "Nuff said" ...but then still continues on after that with an explanation anyway. (Doesn't count if it's a sub-point that starts with something like "For the benefit of those not familiar, we'll explain it anyway..." Though, in truth, this probably also deserves a sip.)
    • Drain your entire glass if This Troper writes "Said X (was totally Y!)".
  • Take a drink if you started getting confused by the game right about here.
  • Take a drink if an example that has 'Where to start?' or 'Where to begin?' followed by a long list of examples under it.
    • Take two if it does this, but with a rather short list.
  • Take a gulp if anything is described as "the poster child for this trope."
  • Take a sip if you have to uncover a spoiler in order to understand why a certain example is on the trope page.
    • Take three sips if it's an anime series.
      • If you feel like going to the hospital, this page will certainly help.
    • Drain the whole glass if it's something you actually have seen.
    • Take a sip if you had to uncover this to read it. [2]
    • Chug if the spoilered thing is something that people who've never even seen the work in question knows. The site's various running gags (such as hiding the fact that Jesus dies in spoiler tags) are optional.
    • Like fucking solitaire?
    • The cake is a lie.
  • Chug if the fact that a series is mentioned on a certain page is a spoiler by itself.
    • Chug again if the spoilery information implied by the series' mere presence is spelled out in a spoiler, as if you couldn't figure it out from "<series> has an example of <trope>".
    • Chug again if if the example is entirely spoiler-tagged.
  • If any spoiler reveals something you really didn't want spoiled, give a Big No, then immediately drink yourself into unconsciousness. When you wake up with a hangover the following morning, you might no longer remember the offending spoiler!
    • Bonus round if the spoiler is tagged but you were editing the page and saw it anyway.
  • Take a sip for every trope that's identified as an anime-specific trope (either in the article itself, or because the article is solely indexed under Japanese Something Tropes or Anime Tropes) even though its list of Western examples is as long or longer than the list of anime examples is not empty.
    • Take two sips if "Supernatural"" is one of the examples listed and then send the link to anyone who wants to know why it's getting turned into an anime.
  • Chug a glass of water if one of the page's category bars has no "next" or "previous" links.
  • Take a sip for every trope page with an image from:
  • Take a sip for every image with a time display in the upper left corner (e.g., if it came out of a Fan Sub derived from a Japanese TV broadcast).
  • Take a glass every time a page image has no link.
    • Take a BIG drink every time a picture leads to a broken link.
  • Take a swig whenever the image is completely meaningless to you.
  • Take a chug whenever an image has a DivX watermark in the corner.
  • Take a sip for every image without a link to the page of the series it came from. Then fix it, if possible.
  • Take a sip from someone else's glass for every image not hosted on All The Tropes.
    • Drink the whole glass if it now shows a "no hotlinking" image.
      • Drink yourself into unconsciousness if the "no hotlinking" image is a Shock Site. (But first tell the Mods, because this isn't supposed to be possible the way ATT is set up.)
  • Take a sip when you see an image you've seen on another page.
  • Take a sip when an image's caption says the character in it is "this trope's patron saint".
    • Take a sip when an image "shows us how it's done".
  • Take a chug if a page contains more than one image.
  • Take a sip for every time I Am Not Making This Up or its brother "Not Making This Up" Disclaimer is invoked, and an extra one if the description of the I Am Not Making This Up-worthy element is potholed to that page.
    • Take a long drink every time, because "I Am Not Making This Up" is no longer a wiki-link, sentences like the above now seem to be missing a very key phrase.
    • A shorter one if it just leads to a [[Broken pothole]] (visible brackets).
    • A bigger one if it's Pothole'd to Deader Than Disco.
  • Take a sip for every phrase potholed to Did Not Do the Research.
    • Take another if a more specific page, such as Misplaced Wildlife, would have worked better.
  • Take a drink for every phrase potholed to Completely Missing the Point.
  • Take two sips every time something is called a Narm even though it doesn't actually make the scene funny.
    • Take five sips when the laughs were supposed to be intentional.
  • Drink the whole glass one sip at a time if somebody potholes every single lettEr of a word.
  • Drink the whole glass if a trope from Discworld is mentioned and it isn't an example of a Subversion.
  • Take a sip if an Irregular Webcomic example mentions that the strip's commentary includes a link to the matching TV Tropes trope page.
    • Or Darths and Droids.
    • Take three sips if the example specifically mentions that the commentary does not link to All The Tropes.
  • Take a sip if a The Order of the Stick or xkcd example refers to a strip less than three hours old.
    • Take another sip if you were about to add it yourself.
    • Take two more sips if the text refers to "a recent" or "the latest" strip but the strip is now more than three months old.
      • Finish the glass if you can't figure out which strip is referred to without an Archive Trawl
      • Finish another glass if you can't figure out which strip is referred to even with an Archive Trawl
      • Finish yet another glass if you did an Archive Trawl and then forgot why you were doing it in the first place (once you remember).
    • Triple the intake if an example not from either refers to something that happened less than one day ago.
      • Quintuple the intake if the strip is based on a current event.
  • Take a sip if a Warhammer 40,000 example is described as taking the trope to "extremes", "ridiculous levels" or Up to Eleven.
  • Take a drink if a Mahou Sensei Negima example mentions that it is actually a Shounen series that is made to look like an Unwanted Harem.
    • Take a drink of the first drink to pop into your head whenever someone links to this page.
  • Take a sip for every instance of the phrase "notable aversion" or "notable exception."
    • Drain the whole bottle if you think the aversion actually is notable.
  • Take a sip from a friend's glass when you see the phrase "you are not alone". If you have no friends present (or no friends at all), immediately abandon the page you're on and continue the drinking game from Ineffectual Loner, Loners Are Freaks, or, if you are young and female, Shrinking Violet.
  • Take a sip if you see an unflattering reference to some work that goes out of the way to address the author/creator by name.
  • Take a sip if an example is mentioned as being "the absolute epitome of this trope"
    • Take another sip if there is no explanation or support for this claim.
  • Take a sip if someone says "Some people, This Troper included," letting you know they have a certain opinion, but totally aren't the only one they know that thinks that.
  • Take a sip every time the Trope Codifier is identified as the Trope Maker.
  • Take a sip every time the same trope is linked to twice in the same sentence, or in consecutive sentences.
  • Take zero sips for every aversion listed on a non-omnipresent trope.
  • Take a shot every time you see somebody Pothole a show using a character's name without actually giving the name of the show in text (making it impossible to search for the show on that page).
    • Take three shots and then juggle the glasses if somebody italicizes the show's name and then Potholes a character instead of, y'know, using the name of the show to link to the show's page.
  • Take a sip if an example lists by number the installments of a series that does not use Numbered Sequels, such as Fire Emblem.
  • Take a sip every time a foreign term is misused.
    • Take two sips if the misused term is from your native language.
    • Take two sips if a character in the show lampshades its misuse.
  • Take a loooooooong drink for every time someone is told to recite the Mystery Science Theater 3000 Mantra, or whenever the mantra is referenced. Doesn't count on the actual page.
    • Take another drink if someone complains about it again nonetheless.
    • Take another drink if you feel that the question is an important one worth answering, and that the MST3K Mantra feels like a way of avoiding serious discussion.
      • Put that drink back if the MST3K Mantra is just there to move said lengthy discussion to the Just Bugs Me section.
      • Alternatively, slam the drink on your head if you think that justifies complaining about not doing the research on series that don't claim to be accurate.
  • Take a sip and then slam your head on the nearest hard, flat surface every time a Pothole gets broken up into multiple identical instances of the same link by an italicized word in the middle of it
  • Take a sip while leaning to the right for every example (especially on Crowning Moments) where the second half is written in italics to emphasize how amazing this example is.
  • Take a sip for every unexplained in-joke potholed to Memetic Mutation.
  • Take a chug every time a troper's comment is Pot Holed to Incredibly Lame Pun.
  • Take a sip if someone complains about not doing the research... on a series that is completely meant to be non-serious. It is guaranteed you will not survive within the hour.
  • Take a sip whenever someone confuses Character Derailment with Flanderization.
  • Take a drink whenever you see "Hello. My Name Is Inigo Montoya. You Killed My Father. Prepare to Die."
    • Dunk your head in hot and cold water until you're sober if it's not all blue.
  • Take a swig of a completely different drink if the Trope Namer isn't an example of the trope.
  • Down a swig of hot chocolate if a Crowning Moment of Heartwarming Troper Tale talks about someone in the third person ends with "Oh and by the way? That guy/girl was me!" or any variant.
  • Take a shot every time you go to a page where spoilers are a foregone conclusion, such as virtually all death tropes, yet someone still puts up spoiler tags. Take another if a majority of the page is like this and looks like a declassified government document.
  • Take a drink whenever someone *coughcoughs*.
  • Raise your glass to your mouth and then put it down in disappointment every time somebody links to a Youtube video which has since been removed from the site.
    • Drink it anyway if it is there, though, and if you look through the comments, take another drink if you see one from someone else mentioning that they got there from All The Tropes.
      • Or capitalizes the trope they got linked from and ends it with a bunch of exclamation marks.
      • Or the comment asks for a thumbs up from everyone reading it who also got there from All The Tropes (in other words, the comment is worded as "thumbs up if All The Tropes sent you here").
        • And to top it off, a sip for every thumb up. Call the ambulance before you start, though.
  • Take a drink every time someone Potholes a mention of Catholicism to Christianity Is Catholic, even when it's not an example of the trope.
  • Take a sip when someone Potholes a word that doesn't relate to their example or the article, but, like, to what they were saying/how they said something.
    • Take two sips if the Pothole is to a different series which has nothing to do with the matter at hand, but they just felt like Entry Pimping, mmkay?
  • Take a drink every time Xkcd 609 is mentioned/linked to. Including now.
    • A glass if it is an 'XKCD' cartoon. A bottle if it is 'Xkcd'.
      • A drink if it's "xkcd", maybe.
    • Take a picture of yourself taking a swig and send it in a thank-you card to Randall Munroe if #609 was the reason you discovered All The Tropes in the first place.
      • A thank you card or a very angry letter and a bomb, depending.

Take a bottle every time someone breaks the article formatting.

  • Take a drink every time the trope separators alternates between colon [:], parentheses [ () ] or a strike [-].
  • Take two sips every time you read the same example twice because somebody was clearly so convinced they had a perfect example that they didn't bother to read the page before "adding" it. Bonus sip if the example is mentioned in contradictory terms—as a straight example and then as a subversion, for example. Then, y'know, delete the duplicate.
  • Take a sip every time there's a link to the old version of 8-Bit Theater's archive. Don't bother fixing it, it'd take too long.
  • Take a sip every time a Pothole leads to If You Know What I Mean instead of Double Entendre when talking about a Double Entendre.
  • Take a sip every time Neon Genesis Evangelion is mentioned in the same sentence as a pot hole leading to Mind Screw.
    • Take two if they actually use that word.
  • Take an entire barrel and commit suicide - by shooting yourself in the temple while simultaneously biting into a cyanide capsule - whenever you see someone invoking Tropers Law.
  • Take a swig whenever the article quote is just another example, but somebody put it at the top because they felt it was somehow "better".
  • On any of the Ear Worm subpages, take a sip for every example that makes you burst out singing.
    • Drain your glass if you know all the words.
      • And if the song has an accompanying dance, and you know it, drink until you don't anymore.
  • Consume a bottle of tequila every time you see that someone have used the word fuck as an edit reason in the Page History, and shed tears when you realize that it was directed against your own edits.
  • Take a sip every time an example is cited as the Trope Namer of some other trope.
    • Take two sips if it's a former Trope Namer due to renaming.
  • Inhale highly toxic alcoholic fumes whenever someone has mistaken All the Tropes Wiki Drinking Game for Complaining About Edits You Don't Like.
    • Eat a pretzel or something if you read a Drinking Game entry about something you've never seen on the wiki.
  • Take two drinks every time you see a statement potholing to Understatement. Take another if it isn't one; most of them aren't.
  • If you give up on understanding the explanation of a trope at the top of the page and just scroll down to the first example you recognize, drink for as long as you scroll.
  • Take a shot every time Fanon is used as an example or to justify a trope.
  • Take a shot when you see an example on a series page that has been blatantly copy/pasted from its trope page, or vice-versa.
  • Chug if a ptitle redirects to a non-ptitle instead of the other way around. Example: Chekhov's Cake redirects to Carrying a Cake.
  • Take a shot every time a homosexuality trope is described as "played straight", with a note in brackets saying "though not that kind of straight" (or equivalent).
  • Take a drink every time someone on a Troper Tales page says "Are you me?", "Are you my twin?", "I don't remember writing this, yet I must have", or a variant thereof.
  • Take a drink whenever you come across "Bonus points" and "double points".
  • Finish the current bottle then open another if an example has very little or nothing to do with the trope and is only there as an excuse to sneer at the fans of the example's subject matter.
    • Take another long pull if the example IS valid, but the editor still can't resist getting in a dig at the fan base.
  • Take a sip whenever you see a non-empty page open with Describe Topic Here.
    • Finish the bottle if the next sentence is something like, "Hmm, where to start?"
      • Take a drink whenever you a see the message "Click the edit button to start this topic".
      • But wait, isn't a page non-empty by definition if it contains the words "Describe Topic Here"? Even if those are the only three words on the page, that still means the page isn't empty.
  • Take a drink when an entry ends with "But still..."
  • Take a sip whenever you find a Pothole to Rule of Cool or Rule of Funny just because a sentence contains the word "cool" or "funny".
  • Take a sip if you see a curse word censored with "*** ". Take three sips if you're still sober enough to realize that the use of three asterisks doesn't make any sense.
  • Take a drink whenever an entry is checked out as you try to edit it.
    • Two drinks if it's checked out by you.[3]
  • Throw your drink at the screen everytime someone describes themselves as a Nightmare Fetishist.
  • Take a drink every time someone writes "And how!" in an example. Take two drinks if they bother to elaborate.
    • Take a small shot if that's bolded.
      • Don't forget to demand what "AND HOW!" means.
  • Take a drink if someone makes a long elaborating for an obivously used trope.
  • Take a shot everytime a portion of a word is spoilered.
    • Take another if it involves two words.
  • Take a drink everytime Mezzacotta's extremely long length is mentioned.
  • Take a shot [4]
    • Down a whole bottle if the footnote is actually informative.
      • But not if you can't see any reason why it shouldn't have just been part of the normal text.
    • The Doctor Who page is the current leader, having 10 hottips, enough to give you alcohol poisoning by itself.
    • Facepalm and down a crate if this entry made you understand what the hell those weird icons mean.
  • Take a drink everytime 4Chan is mentioned.
    • Take a chug if it's a meme.
  • Take a drink everytime an article links to either a Sugar Wiki or Darth Wiki trope.
    • Take a shot everytime an article links to both.
    • But don't if the article mentioned is a Subjective Trope, such as Moment of Awesome.
  • Take a shot of vodka for every link that misspells Chekhov's Gun as "Chekov's Gun" (note the missing 'h').
  • Take a shot every time you see examples of Orwellian Editor and Small Name, Big Ego removed.
    • Take another shot if the subject in question is still alive and active on the Internet.
    • Take a shot if the example is religion-related.
  • Take two very short swigs every time a one-word trope or work title is broken up into Wi Ki Words rather than using curly braces to make it a link.
  • Finish your current bottle every time an example of Natter is removed in the page history.
    • Puke up that beer you just drank if it was Fast Eddie doing it.
    • Drink half the bottle if someone removes a reply, but not a reply replying to that reply. Drink half and hit yourself over the head with the rest if someone appears to have removed only the side of an argument they disagree with.
  • Cross your heart and Take a drink every time you see that someone has struck through someone else's edit rather than deleting it.
    • Two drinks if you notice something is wrong, press edit and see that there was meant to be a striked text.
  • Drink every time one person's "Squick" is followed by someone else saying something like "Speak for yourself!" potholed to Fetish Fuel. Stare uncomfortably into your glass for a few moments if the sexual act in question is illegal.
  • Have a drink every time you read something on a Nightmare Fuel page that you didn't find scary at all.
    • Down yourself an entire cup if the person who wrote said Nightmare Fuel entry used italics or bolded letters in an attempt to get their point across.
  • Pour one on the ground in disgust every time incest is mentioned in a "Troper Tales" page (say it's for the dead homies if someone catches you wasting beer.)
  • Take a sip for every time "Admit it" or "Let's face it" appears in an example.
  • Take a sip every time the phrase "[X]. Dear Lord/God/Crystal Dragon Jesus, [X]" is used for emphasis.
  • Take a sip whenever someone mentions, "[X] loves this trope".

  • Slam one everytime someone says they're asexual in a Troper Tales page.
    • And another when someone says they're autistic or have Asperger's.
  • Take a drink if an example is a sentence that doesn't end with a full stop, exclamation mark or question mark
    • Two if it trails off with an ellipsis for no discernible reason...
  • Take a drink if somebody quotes dialogue from a prose work but writes it in script form, like this:

Harry: [uncertainly] Is he -- a bit mad?
Percy: [airily] Mad? He's a genius! Best wizard in the world! But he is a bit mad, yes.

    • Two sips if they quote the narration but still take a stab at putting the "speaker's" name in front.
  • Take a sip whenever an example refers to a quote at the top of that trope's page, even though that quote has long since been changed to something completely unrelated to the example.
    • Take another sip if this is the case and the example is only something along the lines of "<something>: See page quote".
    • Take a sip if this is the case with the header image, rather than the quote.
    • Drain the bottle if you see examples of this for both the image and the quote.
      • Drain another bottle if it's the same example.
    • Take a sip if somebody replaces the existing page quote with something that's nearly identical but has the crucial X factor of being from a show they like.
  • Take a drink for each example with a potholed reference to an unrelated show appended to it as Natter.
  • Take a drink for every pothole to Discontinuity outside the bulleted point for the trope on a work page.
    • Two drinks if it's a reply worded along the lines of "that episode never happened" or "that episode doesn't exist".

    • Empty the bottle if the quote is punctuated with exclamation points! after! every! WORD! and the CAPPED PART! is potholed to This Is Sparta... for an example of This Is Sparta listed on a works page!
      • Smash the bottle on your head and roar long and loud, if the example was originally listed as "This Is Sparta:" (quote), and all of the above features were subsequently added to clarify that the quote is, indeed, an EXAMPLE!
    • If you smashed the bottle apart when banged it on the table, clean the table before the drink touches your computer, then grab another bottle and take a sip from it.
  • Any time someone refers to a female Magnificent Bastard as a Magnificent Bitch, curse a linguistically-uptight blue streak.
  • Just keep a bottle on hand for any times you find yourself staring at a page's edit history trying to figure out what was changed between an old edit and a new edit, leaning closer and closer to the screen until the two blur together and you forget why you went there in the first place. If you don't find it, drown your sorrows. If it's that someone added or removed the space between the asterisk and the beginning of the example, go for a brisk walk.
    • Also take a drink if the change is someone added a medium prefix, like Live Action TV or Western Animation.
  • Take a sip every time you get personally threatened by a Berserk Button example. Take two if the example is followed by the phrase Lord help you.
  • Arguably, taking a sip every time an entry is "arguably" an example of a trope can work, too.
    • Down the whole glass if any particular "arguable" entry results in an actual argument over whether it is an example or not. Then, if possible, find a third party to "moderate" the argument and declare a winner.
      • If the moderator decides to edit out the entry because it is not an example, whoever was arguing it was an example must down two glasses.
      • If the moderator decides to edit out "arguably" from the entry because it is most definitely an example, whoever was arguing it wasn't an example must down two glasses.
      • If the moderator cannot decide a winner, all participants in the argument must down one glass.
  • Take a sip when the page which gets locked describes a work with a questionable quality and/or the creator(s) of the said work being known for having an oversized ego.

  • Take a gulp if a trope page that includes Fanfic examples has more than 50% of those examples coming from works and creators listed on the Troll Fic page.

    • Take another one if you remember that you added it yourself.
  • Take 3 sips every time the phrase "*shudder*" or "Oh dear God" (or any variant) appears in describing Nightmare Fuel.
    • And a shot when a troper prefaces their example on either of those pages with anything to the effect of "This troper doesn't normally scare easily, but..."
  • Take a drink every time the phrase "Let's not forget" appears when naming an example.
  • Take a drink every time a post with a misspelled word in it is replied to with "X? What's an X?" ie. "Alocapypse? What's an Alocapypse?"

  • Take a chug everytime ███████████████████.[5]
    • Two chugs if it's to cover up a spoiler.
    • Chug from two bottles at the same time if it's an example for the SCP Foundation.
    • On that note, two chugs if underscores (_______) cover up a spoiler. Three chugs if it's not the Big Bad that is apparently being referred to. Four chugs if it's related to Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Explorers, due to the running gag of doing it to ___- oops, we mean Darkrai.

  • Take a drink every time you see the phrase "It's that kind of show" or "It's that kind of game".
  • Take a sip every time Don't Explain the Joke is pot holed
    • Make it a drink is the explanation is only there to make the Pothole.

  • Take a shot whenever a typo is cleverly poinyed out with one boldface letter.
    • "And it gave them hope!" ~sip
  • If you make an edit that references the trope by name, and then do a word find (ctrl+F) to see edit you made, but type in the trope name... you're probably coasting pretty well for now. (If you do take a drink anyway, it's probably time to do more reading and less typing).

  • Take a shot every time Rule of Cautious Editing Judgment is invoked to make a passive-aggressive political statement.

    • Good News, Everyone! Take another shot whenever the next sentence or tooltip invokes Prof. Farnsworth to blow your inner vocal mind.
  • Drink half a can of beer while doing the "Misato getting hammered" pose every time a trope example says it was deconstructed by Neon Genesis Evangelion. Drink a whole beer instead if the word "brutally" or equivalent is present.

    • Exchange bottles with another player if the wiki's official page doesn't say why it's locked.
    • Upgrade that shot to a chug if you didn't go there on purpose.
    • Finish the rest of your bottle if that page was locked in The Second Google Incident. If you already knew it was red-linked because of said incident, take a victory drink from someone else's bottle.[6]
  • ...and on that note, take a chug, then look towards another player with uncertain eyes everytime you see an example of Naughty Tentacles. Then, if you have the impulse to, delete the offending example.
  • Take a shot everytime you see an example of Insistent Terminology being corrected in a Page History, such as Hwacha being replaced with Hwacha!!
    • Face Palm (and try to hide your shame) if said edit stemmed from an example you wrote, but only if you didn't know of the terminology when the example was written.

    • And another if they then continue 'and X is their TARDIS'.

  • Take a sip every time a specific scene is suggested in Image Picking without any actual image because "it's a good example of this trope". Take the shot if there are several images of the suggested scene as the first results of a google image search.

Special Editions

Your Liver Is Currently Dialing Dr. Kevorkian's Number Edition

  • Take a sip every time you see the word 'trope'.
    • Another sip if it's a similar word ('troper', 'tropes', etc).
  • Take a drink every time you see the word "Egregious" (currently appears on 609 735 775 787 815 959 1132 1269 1439 2599 articles).
    • Two drinks if "egregious" is potholed into All The Tropes Wiki Drinking Game.
    • Or if it's about Egregious Heterodyne.

      • Take four drinks if the example is particularly egregious
    • Take two if the editor has in fact simply double-braced the word Egregious.
    • Note: For those with stomachs of steel or a death wish, try the Guide Dang It page. Twelve "egregious"es, all potholed, six of which are "particularly" egregious. That's...30 drinks. Good luck. Now there's 16 "egregious'es" on that page.
      • Running Gag is worse. Niel Jacoby prides himself on (almost) singlehandedly spelling a surefire path to painful death by cirrhosis,
      • Not to mention this very page, which is becoming an egregious example of "egregious" itself, with eight examples so far. Egregious Egregious Egregious Egregious Egregious Egregious.
        • Damn you! * hic*
        • Finish off the bottle if you can still spell "egregious" by this point.
          • We apologize that "egregious" now no longer looks like a word.
    • If the overuse of the word egregious seems like a Dead Unicorn Trope because every time you see it, it's potholed to Egregious or All the Tropes Wiki Drinking Game, finish whatever you're drinking.
    • Drain two glasses if "egregious" is potholed to a different page.
    • Lastly, take one extra drink every time it's mispronounced/misspelled "egregrious", or variations thereof.

    • Three drinks if it consists of "Making this..."
    • Finish the bottle if it's just the phrase "Making this..." without even a link.
  • Take a sip for every example listed on the Magnificent Bastard page. (That would, at 630 examples as of March 2012, give you liver failure by itself, if you're lucky....)
  • Count all the linked-to tropes on a page, then take that many sips.
    • Two sips for each numerical discrepancy in the number of tropes counted (good for late in the game).

    • Down the bottle if the snarker has a valid complaint.
      • When reading through an Alternate Character Interpretation of the comic, take a shot every time Dominic is referred to as "Lord Domenuce". Place bets on what comes first—alcohol poisoning or the ACI becoming entertaining.
  • Take a shot, of all measures, for an example, of all examples, notes that something was done by a character, of all people.
        • Take a sip everytime 4 * or more used at the start.

  • Just in case you failed an attempt at assassinating a politician and need an internet-worthy (not to mention nerdy) way to die, and can still count, count all of the tabs in your web browser you've opened up as a result of your reading a page, and have a shot for each one.
  • Down the rest of the bottle if someone writes down a battle cry from Warhammer 40,000, then shout it out.
  • Take a drink if the page image for an article is from an anime or manga. Then take another if you've never heard of it (if it doesn't say what it's from in the caption, the image or the caption will probably link to the article describing the anime or manga. In fact, you should take another drink if this is the case). Take a third drink if it's not a link.

    • Take another if it wasn't Man Without A Body who added it.
  • Take a swig every time The Dark Knight is mentioned and it isn't to talk about the late Heath Ledger.
    • Also take a swig every time the late Heath Ledger is mentioned and it isn't to talk about The Dark Knight.
    • Similiarly, take a sip whenever somebody says anything about The Proposition that doesn't revolve around what a bastard Arthur Burns is.
  • Drain the jug if Papa Lazarou is mentioned and there is no reference whatever to Nightmare Fuel.
  • Drain the jug when you come across a Warhammer 40,000 example that feels competitively written, as though the person who added it was trying to prove that 40K is the best thing ever.
  • Make yourself a White Russian and drink that every time The Big Lebowski is mentioned or Pot Holed.
  • Take a sip everytime you encounter an entry that links to Wall Banger, and remove it because we don't want Wall Banger linked to outside Darth Wiki. If it's a really bad one drink a whole damn bottle. Of absinthe. It dulls the pain.
  • Take a sip everytime you see Big Boss's name Plot Holed to either Stupid Sexy Flanders or Even the Guys Want Him, and a sip and a half if it's Solid Snake with the aforementioned Pot Hole.
  • Take a sip every time you see the name specifically spelled "Britney" and it's not referring to Mrs. Spears.
    • Take a second sip if it's not a misspelling of "Brittany" or some other Hollywood Spelling of that name. Otherwise, let your inner Grammar Nazi loose on the bugger and hit it one more time...
  • Take a sip and whimper every time Dan Green is mentioned.
  • Take a sip everytime Jesus Dies is spoilered.
  • Take a sip every time a reference to Maggie Gyllenhaal is tagged with Your Mileage May Vary. Take two if the reasoning(if given) is particularly mean-spirited.

Badass (or Wannabe Badass) Edition

  • Take a drink whenever you feel like it. Excuses are for sissies!
      • derm (hic)* rite!1!!1
  • Every time you take a drink, you gotta take a drink!
    • And everytime you take a drink, you gotta take a drink!
      • *drool*

Teetotaller's Edition

  • Play the game with the same rules above, only substitute alcohol for a beverage containing caffeine (or just plain water, if you're trying to stay away from that.) Instead of trying to get drunk, see how long you can hold out without a bathroom break.
    • Oh so very inadvisable.
    • Alternately, use your preferred spicy food item.
    • Or better yet, make yourself a nice, warm pot of poison hemlock.
      • Wimp. Real men use deadly nightshade berries.
    • Or, if you enjoy pain, use lemon juice. Or just eat an entire bag of Shockers. Who needs excuses, anywhichway?
    • Or, you can use soda or another sufficiently sucrose-filled beverage and try to get a sugar rush.
