Ear Worm/Other
Songs with an infuriating habit of getting into your head from a variety of sources not covered elsewhere.
Examples of Ear Worm/Other include:
Comic Books
- "This Vicious Cabaret" from V for Vendetta. The relentless piano and the darkly sardonic lyrics don't leave your mind for a long time after hearing it.
Radio
- A Prairie Home Companion presents us with a few:
- The show's Real Song Theme Tune, the "Tishomingo Blues" with new lyrics (that have since replaced the original ones in the public mind).
- Prairie Home's most famous Parody Commercial, the "Powdermilk Biscuits" Jingle. Dear God, the Powdermilk Biscuits Jingle.
- Bebop-a-Rebop Rhubarb Pie!
- British radio has oodles:
- The Shipping Forecast (appropriately named "Sailing By")
- Pick of the Pops
- The late lamented Radio 4 UK Theme - an earworm of earworms!
- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy has the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation's Complaints Department Song (which must be sung a flattened fifth out of tune to sound almost horrible enough):
Share and enjoy, share and enjoy
Journey through life with a plastic boy
Or girl by your side, let your pal be your guide
And when it breaks down or starts to annoy
Or grinds when it moves and gives you no joy
Cos it's eaten your hat or had sex with your cat,
Bled oil on your floor or ripped off your door
And you get to the point you can't stand any more,
Bring it to us, we won't give a fig;
We'll tell you...
Go stick your head in a pig!
Sports
- The official song of the World Cup 2010. And this is just one song--every tournament usually has at least one Ear Worm on its official soundtrack. Also the vuvuzelas, though they are the bad kind of Ear Worm- you really don't want them in your head.
- The Minnesota Twins fight song
- The Fratellis' "Chelsea Dagger" might just be the best example among NHL goal songs. It definitely has Most Annoying Sound/Hell Is That Noise status among Blackhawks rivals.
Real Life
- Some fire alarms, which make catchy bloops, blops, and wails.
- And the ones that go "The fire alarm has been sounded, and the cause of it is being investigated. Please remain calm and wait for further instructions. Thank you. (Lather, rinse, repeat)"
- Some reversing sirens - not content with merely beeping at you, they inform you: "Attention! This vehicle... is... reversing!"
