Anti-Cliché and Mary-Sue Elimination Society/Characters
These are most of the many, many characters who appear in the Anti Cliche and Mary Sue Elimination Society.
Spoiler tags used for ending of Willowe arc and the Runoa arc.
Leaders & Other Persons Of Authority
These guys are the heart and backbone of the Society.
Natasha "Tash" Marquand
"Fine, but the Tomb Robber's sexy ass is mine!"
While technically second in command, Tash is de facto leader, so everyone pretty much treats her as such...
Even though she can have a long list of insecurities around her, in the end she's a (relatively) nice person who likes to take things head-on. That is, if you get on her good side. Not only does she have a nice proficiency in beating people's asses off, she's also got a way of harnessing "Juari-Ken", a power of fire that you don't want to get singed by...
Currently in a relationship with Adrian.
Tropes associated with Tash:
- A-Cup Angst: It's not that she's actually flat, it's more she's insecure about being flat.
- Badass Longcoat: She's started to don Adrian's trenchcoats after he died but stopped after his resurrection.
- Dumb Blonde: Averted. Oh. So. Much.
- Flash Step
- Genki Girl: And how!
- Hot Wings
- The Lancer: If you put Tash, Michael, Adrian, Aster, and Valerie in a Five-Man Band.
- Mayfly-December Romance: With Adrian; see his entry.
- Playing with Fire: Her main ability is using powerful fire magic.
- Self-Insert
- Soul Jar: Tash ends up as one of these for Adrian.
- Tsundere: Although it's more of a general lash to everyone.
Harriet
"What?! I'm a self insert! I won't apologise!"
The official leader of the Society, Harriet's the mascot of the author who started the whole Society mess. She's also responsible for creating Willowe, and made the Society to stop her.
Tropes associated with Harriet:
- The Alcoholic: Oh dear...
- Badass Normal: No super powers to speak of, but you don't want to know what she can do to you with nothing but a cricket bat.
- Batter Up: Fear the cricket bat. FEAR IT.
- Menstrual Menace: Don't get NEAR her during the time of the month.
- Old Shame: Willowe.
- Self-Insert
- Tsundere: Probably, when compared with Tash, with MORE tsun and less dere.
- You Make Me Sic: Repeatedly corrects everyone's grammar and spelling in their reports and hands out gold stickers for perfect punctuation.
Michael Wasson
"You may not handle Mary Sues the same way, but I take care of Gary Stus differently! I nip them in the bud and keep them from spreading."
The fourth official leader of the Society, replacing Lauren when she decided to take a bus ride to the Canary Islands (see Agents On A Bus), Michael's pretty much a male surrounded by chicks. Not that he minds...
...of course, he's engaged to Claire, so he doesn't have much there. He is still interested in girls wearing miniskirts though.
No, really. In the end Michael's just a relatively nice guy, although easily incited to fighting. (Not in a I-hate-you way. He just likes the act of fighting.)
In a not-so-recent fight, he got himself entangled with the Darkness (yes, that Darkness) and has some cool powers to go with it. As well as a lot of insanity.
Tropes associated with Michael:
- Awesome but Impractical: One of his most deadly attacks it conjuring a literal blackhole to suck up his opponents. Only problem: He needs several minutes to charge it, he needs his complete and total concentration on it, and when he's done with it, every ounce of his strength is totally drained from him. Not always worth it...
- Berserk Button: Don't ever threaten Claire.
- The Big Guy: In aforementioned Five-Man Band. It's the closest fit: his "big" comes from his power and fighting skill, not his size.
- Confusion Fu: Is slowly becoming infamous for this, particularly after his Dark Tournament victory via Rickroll...
- Cool Mask: He used to wear a Shakespearean mask with cloak and straw hat.
- Hot-Blooded: He likes fighting. Didn't you know?
- Self-Insert
- Soul Jar: He's one of these for Adrian.
- Super-Powered Evil Side: The Darkness itself finds a host in the Agent Michael. Albeit a bit watered down, it's still pretty badass. The problem is, the thing is trying to take over the world by inhabiting Michael's head and even made a huge attempt to kill the Society members at first. In the end, it took an "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight from Claire to get him back. Nowadays it doesn't do anything but sing annoying songs until Michael threatens it with a flashlight. In the end, Michael gets the better end: he can summon Darklings...
Adrian
"BOOT TO THE HEAD!"
The Hero, more or less. He's a superpowered Librarian Counter Guardian immortal guy who sold his soul to the Powers That Be. Also, he can morph into a fluffy white kitten.
Despite his dark past and amount of angst about killing thousands to save millions, generally Adrian's willing to help out. He's extremely old but Immortality Begins At Twenty for him and he's relatively youthful. Plus, he's got Tash.
He sacrificed himself to save the Multiverse from Willowe, greatly distressing his lover, Tash, but resurrected after a lot of angsting and hard work. Currently, he is chasing his past: which might be a lie...
Tropes associated with Adrian:
- Back from the Dead
- Badass Longcoat: Adrian, who wears a trenchcoat practically all the time and of a variety of colors. Unfortunately, despite his martial arts prowess and exstensive magical knowledge, his trenchcoats do not have a long life span. It has gotten to the point where his fellow Agents take bets on how long his trenchcoat will last when he goes on a mission.
- Because The Powers That Be Say So: Subverted harshly. His fated job is to kill thousands of people to save them. But while he hates it, he'll never say he regretted making the decision to become a Counter Guardian.
- Genre Savvy: What do you expect from a guy who's been studying fandoms for years?
- The Hero
- Heroic BSOD: Oh dear, let's count how many he has...It's usually when he has doubts about killing people to save people.
- Heroic Sacrifice: He sacrifices himself to Willowe to save the Multiverse.
- I Am Your Father: Runoa is his mother.
- Immortality: He's Really Seven Hundred Years Old. Very much. It's hard to speculate when he was born, but it was known he tried to be a hero and made a deal with the Powers That Be in order to save lives. The price was his humanity (he became a Counter Guardian after his death) and his mortality. He's Type IV Immortal.
- Killed Off for Real -> Disney Death
- Mayfly-December Romance: This is a problem; Adrian is immortal, Tash is not. Tash Hand Waves this by stating she doesn't care, and Adrian states he doesn't want her feeling the pain of immortality. Word of God states this will be addressed in more detail later.
- OC
- Spotlight-Stealing Squad: Once he was introduced, most of the major plot developments have centered primarily around him. This is probably due to the fact that his author is one of the Society's most prolific writers, although he admittedly suffers Ending Fatigue quite easily.
- Unusual Ears: Tash magicked him into cat ears and a tail.
- White-Haired Pretty Boy
Valerie Shockley
"I mean, I hate fighting...Harming someone else is like deliberately hurting myself, and what sane person does that?"
She's the empath of the Society and the resident healer, along with a bunch of other nice powers, but she's always got a lot of time to contemplate what's going on with the Society and what she has to do.
Tropes associated with Valerie:
- Actual Pacifist: Justified. If Valerie goes into the battlefield she'll feel the pain of the person she's fighting, meaning she'll maim herself. She also is having a hard time feeling the pain of war, although Seiryu wants to fix that.
- The Archer: Her Weapon of Choice.
- Empathic Healer: Fits this trope down to the nose.
- The Hero: In her own team of agents, consisting of herself, Monika, Terrie, Stacey, and Danielle.
- Incorruptible Pure Pureness: Can be seen to be this at first glance.
- Our Dragons Are Different: Due to her guardian Ari being based of the fire-lizards in the Dragonriders of Pern fandom.
- Self-Insert
- The Smart Guy: If you consider her wisdom smartness.
- Soul Jar: Revealed to be this for Adrian.
- Wise Beyond Their Years
Phoenixia
"That Cherokee Agent and I decided to spend the weekend having some fun. I think that red-haired Irish girl might have been there, too: but it was two days of mind-bending pleasure and skin and lovebites...did you know that girl has a chain? And she knows how to use it, too..."
Adrian's sentient computer program and has lived nearly as long as the Librarian himself. She likes flirting and seducing others, and provides most of the more sexual content in the stories. She's also a prolific writer and of course is very sexy, though she is picky about who she actually sleeps with. Despite her overtly sexual nature, she is wiser than she looks...
She does take a platonic liking to Chrys (because she believes her to be a female version of Adrian) and Emily (for unknown reasons).
And she likes flowers, having an entire room of the Library dedicated to her garden.
Now has a Super-Powered Evil Side for some odd reason. Probably a result of stealing Death's body.
Tropes associated with Phoenixia:
- Affectionate Nickname: Alice was the first to shorten her name to ‘Nixie’. Her response was quite funny, and it has stuck ever since.
- Blown Across the Room: Getting hit with Phoenixia's shotgun tends to do this. To be fair, her opponents are really really hard to kill....
- Bottomless Magazines: The guns seem to be magical in nature, it's reasonable to assume that they have this.
- Cool Set of Guns: She uses a set of guns called 'Incandescent Silverreign', which consists of two handguns, one Sniper Rifle, and one shotgun. They're awesome enough on their own, but they're made more awesome by being put together to make one big gun.
- Fetish Fuel Station Attendant: It's pretty much her purpose in existing according to Word of God.
- Gun Fu: Her prefered style of combat, tossing Leap and Fire, Pistol-Whipping, Quick Draw and Firing One-Handed for good measure.
- The Gunslinger: What she is on her way to becoming.
- Hard Light: She is capable of projecting a body for herself practically anywhere in Library and those who have spent a night with her can definately say that it is real, very much so...
- Hello, Nurse!: She does this a lot.
- Although when she's needed to function as an actual nurse, or even an EMT/surgeon/doctor-in-one for lack of any other choice, she can and has saved lives with her medical skills.
- Improbable Aiming Skills: Phoenixia is able to aim and fire a sniper rifle one-handed at six vital points on the target's body one swift motion.
- Instant AI, Just Add Water- Adrian's Phoenix Zord possesses a synaptic uplink, letting him control it with his mind, as well as a highly advanced computer. During one of his first times using it, the system overloaded and backlashed, knocking him out. The end result was that the computer had somehow mimicked his mind and gained sentience, resulting in Phoenixia.
- Ms. Fanservice: Oh. So. Much.
- OC
- Projected Man: She started off as this and took advantage of this. Later she gained a body, but since it has shapeshifting abilities, she abuses that too.
Rhiannon "Rhia"
"What did you do when you first realized the Sues would have to die if they wouldn't surrender?"
A close friend to Tash, Rhia's both a loudmouth and socially awkward. She's an amalgamation of all sorts of stuff in the Society. She seems to have a problem with the fact that Sues are meant to die.
She's also an expert cook, and even has ownership of "the second kitchen".
Tropes associated with Rhia:
- Badass Normal: She works in a kitchen. She has access to knives. Yet her most oft-used weapon is a frying pan. It is a weapon of mass destruction.
- Boisterous Bruiser: Subverted. While loud and boisterous...she's more normal in the end.
- Create Your Own Villain: Rhia's hatred for slash has gone to bite her in the end, when Roxelana, a slasher Sue, kidnaps her...
- Dual-Wielding: She has two wakizashi.
- Frying Pan of Doom: And she's an expert wielder of said implement too.
- Self-Insert
- Slashed Throat: She's found dead in the kitchen with this; however, it turns out to be a body double and Rhia has actually been kidnapped.
- Supreme Chef: One of the best cooks in the Society. She supplies most of the food, too.
Active Combat Agents
These guys are the Society’s main offence and defence against Sues, having quite a few successes to their names.
Marcus Pate
"...now I've got a new way of thinking."
One of the Society's first comic relief characters, Marcus is an interesting sort: he can randomly switch moods at any time. He also has the ability to split into two parts of himself, Thought and Emotion.
He's also openly homosexual, although this isn't played for laughs and more for the heartwarming moments.
Tropes associated with Marcus:
- Literal Split Personality: The tiger talisman from the Jackie Chan Adventures fandom allows him to split.
- No Indoor Voice: His Emotion half.
- Self-Insert
- Shrinking Violet: His Thought half.
Ben
"Don't mess with nukes!"
One of the resident screwballs of the Society, Ben is casual and carefree.
One of the easiest ways to find him is to listen for either the Heavy Metal blasting from his over-sized DJ-style headphones, or the screams which indicate he's undergoing another vicious mauling at the hands of his overly-violent muse, Shirley the Cliché Stick. Or you could just head towards the nearest mushroom cloud.
Ben is also in a romantic relationship with Lily Adamson, and is the one responsible for her Heel Face Turn.
Tropes associated with Ben:
- Analogy Backfire: The device used to switch Bahamut from normal to Death Metal is called the Achilles device. Remember the fate of Achilles?
- Berserk Button: You do NOT mess with Dethklok.
- The Chew Toy: Not only is Ben literally Shirley's chew toy, but he's gotten in more trouble than the entire Society combined. Times three.
- Dating Catwoman: Ben and Lily went through this for a period while she was still a Mary-Sue.
- Desperation Attack: The Achilles Device can only be activated after Bahamut has been severely damaged or destroyed.
- Heavy Metal: Ben's musical obsession.
- Magic Misfire: While in Rome, Ben’s powers turned into floods of wine and baskets of fish…and no-one’s sure why.
- Musical Assassin: Ben's weapon of choice is a guitar named Bahamut, which has the ability to fire various forms of energy beams and shockwaves.
- Person of Mass Destruction: He can summon nukes. At one point, he accidentally killed all the dinosaurs with one.
- Nuke'Em: Ben's trademark attack is called 'Don't mess with nukes!" which literally drops a nuke on whatever he's currently pointing at.
- Slap-On-The-Wrist Nuke: Oddly, for being such an intimidating power, Ben's nukes don't tend to fry more than a 10-30 foot radius...
- Self-Insert
Shirley
Ben's muse, Shirley the Cliché Stick. She's a stick that tries to eviscerate people who use clichés or dumb jokes.
She is incredibly violent, about three feet long, has claws, and has disemboweled Ben more times than we care to count. Oh, and she's a stick.
Also has a kid named Deebs. Who is also a stick. Long story short: One of Ben's friends once hugged Shirley (for some reason) so hard that a piece of Shirley broke off and became sentient. This was Deebs. The fate of Ben's friend is currently unknown.
Tropes associated with Shirley:
- Berserk Button: Clichés or bad puns. Seriously, we can't stress that enough.
- Disproportionate Retribution: She frequently rips out Ben's internal organs for making bad jokes. Seeing as it's Ben, this happens a lot.
- Extreme Melee Revenge: Her modus operandi.
- Mama Bear: To Deebs.
- The Muse: We think. She's not a very good one.
- Running Gag: Every single time a bad joke is made... cue Shirley.
Aster Selene
"Kyaa~"
A fae. Controller of half the world's elements. Housing the powers of a goddess who could destroy the world. She doesn't have a soul, as it was ripped from her when she received her powers. And she's a total moron.
Aster's pretty useless and can't really be used for anything practical, given her idiocy...her powers could be an asset if utilized properly. By someone else. Her best friend is Chrys, but there's no opportunity for Les Yay given Aster's straighter than a metal pole. She's also extremely close with Akai.
Tropes associated with Aster:
- An Ice Person
- Breaking the Fourth Wall: To the point where she's the one expected to do it.
- Even though she kind of doesn't anymore...
- Break the Cutie: She's the poster child for this.
- First she gets driven to insanity due to a piece of Adrian's soul inhabiting her.
- Then she finally gets better, only to get kidnapped by Runoa and Mind Raped.
- She recovers, but then gets her powers: and her livelihood: taken away, and Kuroneko has to drag her over to get her powers and soul back.
- Her soul causes an overload very nearly driving her permanently into a humanity-hating goddess.
- The Chick
- Couldn't Find a Pen: Writes mysterious numbers on the wall with her blood when getting Mind Raped by Runoa. She literally couldn't find a pen though.
- Creator Breakdown: Her Author left the Society due to emotional issues regarding her status in life and other related things in her life. Unlike other examples of this, Aster has clearly and expressly been left in the hands of the Society and the Author still remains in the community to do checkups, so she has thus not been Put on a Bus. (In fact, the Society has now become Aster's only hope, since due to Creator Breakdown, in her original home series, the original Aster dies in the third book.
- The Ditz
- Expy: Not originally, no. But once her personality became more defined (see Flanderization), she started to pick up traits of Cirno. Power over ice? Check. Fairy? Check. Big ego? Check. Complete idiot? Check.
- Flanderization: She was originally a slightly dingy Genki Girl with a small affinity for anime/manga. Look where that got her.
- Genki Girl: Oh. So. Much.
- Gratuitous Japanese: Justified. Her nationality is Japanese, and when forced to speak English in the Society, she only uses Japanese when talking to another Japanese-person, when using honorifics, or when using interjections.
- Immortality: Being a fae, she has Type II Immortality. She's not Older Than She Looks yet because she's still around how she looks (although she doesn't actually know how old she is). Immortality Begins At Twenty does not apply as she can look however she wants to be (she's actually a floating ball of energy but her fae "veil" keeps people from seeing that).
- Japanese Honorifics: She uses this on everyone.
- OC
- Otaku: She gives freaking classes on her favorite anime.
- Our Fairies Are Different: Dear Lord, Aster plays this trope so straight it's not even funny. Then again, she insists she's not a fairy, she's a fae (indeed, she's much more of a branch of The Fair Folk, and said Fair Folk, according to her, are boring, stubborn, useless, stuffy, and rather upright-type). And there seem to be fairies, too, of a different species.
- The Pollyanna: Aster in fact doesn't care about the emo that hangs around her life: the fact she's soulless, without emotions, and has a lot of issues. But she doesn't care at all: just keeps on being herself.
- Power Limiter: After getting her soul back, she uses four bracelets to anchor her soul. She can take them off to get more power, but the chance that she'll lose her soul increases with each bracelet removed.
- Plus, Adrian made it so that the last bracelet can't be removed.
- Power Trio: With Chrys and Akai. In her original universe Chrys was leader, but now she is emerging as the leader of this. However, this is not defined, and it just turns out that way because Aster joined the Society first.
- Soul Jar: Aster is revealed to be one of these for Adrian.
- Tsundere: Around Aramayis the Counter Guardian.
- Verbal Tic: She leaves "kyaa" at the end of some sentences for no apparent reason, although occasionally she likes to say it as a standalone when feeling witty or guilty.
Cristoph Asahina
"It feels like something I am missing...and I wonder if I'll ever get it back."
A ninja with assorted powers, although he likes to have disputes with Doug over ways of fighting. He also has a mysterious past he can't remember and has recently taken to observing people. He has a pet giant eagle, Algazdun.
Tropes associated with Cristoph:
- Berserk Button: Cristoph when someone badmouths the Author he's never met.
- Character Development: Enters the story as a rather generic, mysterious-past-that-is-heavily-implied-to-be-tragic sort of dude. By the time he hooks up with Rhia, however, he's much more 3-dimensional as a character, and much more likable.
- A Dog Named "Dog": His katana is called "ninjato"... which is another word for katana.
- Honor Before Reason: Causes many fights between him and Doug.
- I Am Who??: Cristoph, despite being an OC, has never met his Author. The only reason why he even joined in the Society (unlike most of the other Agents) in the first place is because he wants to learn about his creation, and subsequently, his creator, even though it's been hinted that Cristoph's Author lost control of Cristoph at some point before he was awakened.
- Loss of Identity: One of Cristoph's main goals is to find out who he is and what happened in his past. This is not helped by the fact it seems his first author is having an ownership dispute over him...Rhia, however, is trying to help him with such a thing.
- Ninja: Sadly, Cristoph follows the Hollywood ninja stereotypes and almost nothing that actually defined a real ninja.
- OC
- Only Sane Man: This one's for real: he questions the other Society members' sanity.
- The Stoic: Ties in with Only Sane Man.
Douglas "Doug" Kreig
"Big bada boom!"
A military fanatic. Loves explosives to the point of implementing it to daily life. He's also a halfling...
He retired from the Society, leaving Ingrid to replace him.
Tropes associated with Doug:
- Badass Army: See Sealed Army In A Can.
- Colonel Badass: He's one of the three on the 999 (Squad Nickname) squad. The other two are Terry (Sergeant Rock) and Ivan (Cold Sniper).
- Horror Hunger: He needs blood to supplement to his Super Strength and Healing Factor, which allows him to be Immune to Bullets.
- Immortality: Immortality Begins At Twenty as he still looks roughly sixteen. It's a mixture of Type III and Type X.
- OC
- Our Vampires Are Different: Subverted slightly due to the fact that he's half-vampire.
- Red Eyes, Take Warning: If deprived of blood, his eyes go red which means he's gonna go crazy.
- Sealed Army in a Can: His army in cryogenic storage. Amazon Brigade included!
- They were disbanded after a terrible war. Several hints suggest that him and the remnants of the army might form a much smaller Badass Crew
- Stuff Blowing Up: His love for explosives is real...
Tyler Kahn
"Oh muffins..."
Nowadays, he's the comic relief of the Society, and he's pretty much insane. To every degree.
Tropes associated with Tyler:
- Art Evolution: Received one during his transition to Season Two. An extreme example, as it caused him to grow six inches overnight.
- Caffeine Bullet Time: At one point, the Sue gets away, so Tyler... goes to the nearest Starbucks, drinks a coffee with tons of sugar, and gets her that way.
- Extreme Omnivore: Tyler has eaten many inedible items, including but not limited to the plastic casing on a CD and napalm.
- Genre Savvy: Too much. This is done so much in every single one of his fics.
- OC
- Shoe Phone: All his personal gadgets are like this.
- Stuff Blowing Up: Enjoys this, is often the cause of it, and is to some extent resilient to it.
Drake Dragonsoul
"I cheat and lie and I enjoy every moment of it."
He joined the Society because hunting down Sues sounded like a fun job. Drake doesn't spend much time around his fellow agents and prefers to work alone. He enjoys playing tricks on others and spends most of his time stealing Adrian's chocolate.
Tropes associated with Drake:
- Blade on a Stick: Weapon of choice.
- By the Power of Grayskull: By yelling "Wardrobe Change!" Drake activates his armor.
- Cool Bike: The Storm Blade.
- Elemental Powers: Shock and Awe and Blow You Away.
- Finishing Move: Storm Kick was originally supposed to be this, but now the Double Storm Kick seems to be his finishing move. Unfortunately, it rarely works.
- Henshin Hero: He follows this trope to the letter.
- I Work Alone: Used word for word the first time he was forced to team up with another agent. Doesn't mention it much afterwards though. Also he's quick to team up with Tyler to get Adrian's sweets.
- OC
- Took a Level in Badass: The first version of his armor drained his energy quickly and often failed to measure up to his opponents. When he created the second version, he became a much more competent fighter.
Kyle Griswold
"Even one person has the power to change the world. Even one person can help others in need. Even one person will make all the difference to everyone."
A character who's suffered a lot in his past and prefers to stick with the Society. His loyalties don't waver. He's an extremely serious person. He's also got his share of problems to deal with: he has the Heaven and Earth, Worldly Secret Art that allows him to sacrifice his lifespan in exchange for going beyond his soul and ascending to almost godlike-type power. After almost getting killed, however, he's resorted to using Soul Form and his Innate Abilities, which always have drawbacks.
Tropes associated with Kyle:
- Dangerous Forbidden Technique: The Heaven and Earth, Worldly Secret Art.
- Hyperspace Arsenal: Granted, it'd be difficult to show a character's life force draining away within the context of a crack story, but still...
- Morph Weapon: His Omni-weapon.
- Necessary Drawback: In all of his abilities, but apparently they're worth it.
- Self-Insert
- The Stoic
Tech-Specialized Agents
Charis
"But thanks to you spilling your guts, next time Karissa and I will be on our guard."
Karissa's more cheerful and outgoing sister, Charis succeeded Camille in being the Society's head techie, although she prefers to use her labs at home. She's known for the Society's recent upshoot in number of gadgets.
Tropes associated with Charis:
- Berserk Button: When someone infects/breaks her laptop, which was a gift from her Author.
- Fan-Preferred Couple: Invoked somewhat, in a sort of bizarre way. Charis and Pete got together in the most unlikely way: Valerie's author wrote about someone suggesting that Pete and Charis hook up as a joke; Pete actually suggested it; they started getting clumped together in other fics because of "the shipping thing"; they ended up going out.
- Gadgeteer Genius: Unlike her predecessor, Camille, Charis is more concentrated on churning out new inventions, which may be the reason why the Society has seen less of its older stuff. It's not always a good thing (the Anachron did some...interesting things to Doug).
- Gratuitous Japanese: She invokes this in the Hell Girl fandom. Justified: it's necessary.
- OC
Pete
"We can just throw this stuff at them?"
Another techie in the Society, Pete's most well-known for having his relationship with Charis. He also has a split personality, named Himuro, who is the more nerdy-type person and is much more technologically oriented type (not that Pete's bad with them to begin with).
Tropes associated with Pete:
- Henshin Hero: He has a Kamen Rider belt, and can become Lightdrake or Darkhopper.
- Not So Secret Relationship: Pete and Charis are trying to keep their relationship secret. Does the rest of the Society know? Oh yes.
- OC
- Promoted to Love Interest: Could be technically said about his and Charis's relationship.
- Split Personality: Pete and Himuro neatly fit into this.
Jared
"Historically speaking, Plan A never works. It's my personal philosophy to never use it until Plans B and C have already failed."
Another techie, Jared is a sort of joker and a close friend to Ben. He uses his truck, of all things, which he named Chevila.
Tropes associated with Jared:
- Car Fu: How Jared employs Chevila in combat.
- Companion Cube: He named his car, and now he treats it like a normal person.
- Country Music: Jared's choice of music, something Chloe does not appreciate.
- Drop the Hammer: Jared's weapon of choice is simply a sonic powered super sledgehammer.
- Jared is also a firm believer in When All You Have Is a Hammer.
- Exactly What It Says on the Tin: Jared's Little Plastic Green Beret is, indeed, an army of inch tall Green Beret soldiers made of plastic.
- Sealed Army in a Can: Jared's Little Plastic Green Beret soldiers.
- The LPGB were recently upgraded, and are now the Little Plastic Marine Corps.
- Self-Insert
Chloe
(about Jared getting hit with hot motor oil) "And that's the reason you're supposed to wear lab aprons."
Jared's female assistant, although nothing seems to have come of the opposite genders yet.
Tropes associated with Chloe:
- Beleaguered Assistant: Somewhat. Jared does work, but that doesn't mean Chloe doesn't get her fair share either. Sometimes she doesn't even seem like an assistant.
- Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: She can summon a shield with an eye that can produce blades.
- OC
WARGS
These guys all originate from the Winchester Association of Roleplayers and Gamers…and as such are some of the smart cookies of the Society as well as some good fighters themselves. Tash is also a veteran member; Harriet, Michael and Claire all class as honorary members because they’ve once attended a meeting (held in the basement of the Royal Oak pub).
David "Dave"
"When in doubt, quote Douglas Adams."
Dave is the Society's newly-created Public Relations Officer, a post created after there was a harsh realisation that the Society's reputation - especially when it came to how the captures Sues were being treated - was somewhat dire. He joined the Society in the first place because Tash is his gaming friend, but it's not quite all it was cut out to be...
Tropes associated with Dave:
- Back from the Dead: Sorta, I guess.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Thinking the Sue Mesha had reformed, he brought her into the Society...but it turned out she was a spy...
- Nigh Invulnerable: Literally. After dying in Captain Scarlet, he got cloned, and is now only vulnerable to electricity. And old age.
- Self-Insert
- Your Worst Nightmare: He has been having recurring nightmares about the Society going mad(der) and simply slaughtering Sues, and getting hit by a truck.
Alice Wood
"IT'S A (insert thing here)!"
A member of the Society who joined post-Willowe, known especially for her bone-crushing hugs. Is a bit of a roleplaying geek and an English graduate. She is affectionately known as 'The Library's Pet Search Engine'.
Tropes associated with Alice:
- Affectionate Nickname: Alice calls everyone ‘Dumpling’.
- Energy Weapon: Alice's power sword, which is a twenty-two inch engraved double-edged blade with a power pack built into the hilt; a single press of the hidden button and FWOOSH!! Though the sword was acquired in Warhammer 40,000 (and has shown anti-psyker measures to boot) Alice often uses it on a low setting to make toast...
- The Glomp: Usually accompanied with "IT'S A (insert person/thing here)!", Alice will tackle the nearest person and almost crush his/her ribs. Then pick them up and run away.
- Goggles Do Something Unusual: Alice's Steampunk-esque silver goggles so far have shown quite a variety of interesting filters and settings..."Night vision, magnification, zoom, X-ray, blue filter, dunno, sparkle-O-vision…"
- Heterosexual Life Partners: With Louise.
- Scars Are Forever: After nearly dying from an Ak'Zahar attack, she gets scars down her arm.
- Self-Insert: the only difference between Writer Alice and Society Alice is that the latter has a sword.
- You Make Me Sic: Alice will often absent-mindedly correct things verbally, though not with any malicious intent (or tact, for that matter), and more for factual things rather then grammar.
- Your Worst Nightmare: Following the Ak'Zahar attack, she started having hallucinations, believing that there were still Ak'Zahar in the Library. It turned out to be just the side effects of the medicine she had been put on.
Louise
"Alice, you can't eat him, there's no meat on him."
Another Society member, who joined with Alice. She keeps Alice in check: or at least tries to. She has the ever-present danger and difficulty of an arch-nemesis: Merle, a powerful Sue who had once been at the very least some sort of acquaintance of Louise's.
Tropes associated with Louise:
- The Gunslinger: Louise is a very good shot, though she prefers her finely-crafted handguns to anything to Boomstick-esque. She also collects them. Her assortment currently consists of an Inquisitorial laspistol (barely used), a Glock 17 nobbled from Stargate SG-1, and now a Zat'ni'katel from a later trip to the same.
- Heterosexual Life Partners: With Alice.
- It's Personal: Louise feels that Merle is her responsibility, and hates the fact that others – namely Alice – are now involved. However she’s tried going after Merle by herself…and it didn’t turn out too well.
- Manchurian Agent: Merle had her act under her control via telephoning her after her ordeal in Warhammer Fantasy …doing lots of strange research and eventually taking five agents hostage in the basement, including Emily and Alice. The Society was able to remove the programming from her head, however there is still an uneasiness around her.
- Mysterious Waif: Okay, maybe not that much, but she has a past she's keeping to herself. She's also a lot quieter than Alice...
- Self-Insert: unlike Alice, Writer Louise and Society Louise aren't much different in the present…it's just the latter's past which differs wildly.
- Survivor Guilt: She felt terrible after leaving her best friend to the Ak'Zahar. And this is only the beginning.
- Unbroken Vigil: Louise refused to leave Alice’s bedside while her best friend was in the hospital wing; not only for the sedation and recovery of the Ak'Zahar attack, but also when Alice had been nearly strangled by Richard.
Gareth
Gareth is a Steampunk-loving, waistcoat-wearing, tea-drinking geek who is chasing his nemesis through the old Adventure Classics.
Tropes associated with Gareth:
- Waistcoat of Style: Always.
"Red"
Red is Gareth’s fiancée and hasn’t shown up much, except as a cat under various spells. She helped Lily dye her hair. She’s also the reason there seems to be an increase of zombie sightings lately…
Tropes associated with Red:
- Right-Hand-Cat: With Gareth.
Converted Agents
These guys used to be Sues…and for one reason or another, and one method or another, they are now Society members.
Emily Foxblade
"We used to be a family..."
Formerly known as Palm Tree Foxblade, by the time she really got a run-in with the Society, she was the only one of the sisters to have not developed powers (because Sue powers develop with puberty whenever the Sue is born into the family). Not approving of her sisters' antics, she helped her sisters Ashley and Aspen get captured, and became trained as a techie.
Tropes associated with Emily:
- Blessed with Suck / I Just Want to Be Normal: The Society hopes that by raising Emily they can turn her away from being a Sue. Emily is deathly afraid of developing Sue powers because then she may become psychotic and obsessed with taking over the world like her sister (her new powers are associated with Sueishness), which scares the hell out of her when she finds she has the ability to summon plotholes. Willowe, however, is confident she will be able to choose her own path.
- Fail O'Suckyname: Arguably she had an even worse name as a Sue. Seriously, Palm Tree?
- Heel Face Turn: She was formerly known as Palm Tree Foxblade and was Willowe's sister; however, it's somewhat subverted as she hadn't really developed powers yet and Willowe considered her the least likely to go all Sue.
- OC
- Waistcoat of Style: As of halfway though season 2.
Lily Adamson
"Looks like it's time for the obligatory catfight."
A former Mary-Sue once known as Bella Aubrey, Lily differed from most of her race in that she only wanted to use her powers to help people, rather than for her own personal gain. Her crusade quickly brought her into conflict with Ben, and the two eventually developed feelings for each other which in turn led to Lily renouncing her heritage and becoming a member of the Society. Now with Ben's help, she is slowly learning what it means to be human.
Tropes associated with Lily:
- Dating Catwoman: She and Ben went through a period of this while she was still a Sue.
- Heel Face Turn: She was formerly known as Bella Aubrey and was a Sue.
- Incurable Cough of Death: It looks like this at first. Turns out as a Sue she never had her immune system built up to colds, and she had a common cold, which was easily cured.
- Name's the Same: Hm. A Mary-Sue named Bella. I wonder...
- What Did You Expect When You Named It?: Lily was originally named Bella in order to give Ben the opportunity to nuke a Twilight-named character...and then the forbidden-romance plot comes along...
- You Gotta Have Blue Hair: Lily's hair is a bright emerald green, a remnant from her days as a Mary-Sue.
Crystellia "Chrys"
(after being teased by anyone) "Mnnnyeh....!"
A Peacekeeper, hired by the same Powers That Be who hired Adrian (except she calls them "the Creators"). She's a pacifist, she's sweet and kind, she's prone to a lot of stuff. She's also Aster's closest friend and confidant, along with Akai.
She's also a hanyou, half-demon half-human, trying to come to terms with her identity. She's got dog ears, too, to top it off.
She's a low-level Sue, but she doesn't like being one and hopes being in the Society will "cure" her.
Tropes associated with Chrys:
- Big Eater: Hoo boy. She'll eat anything as long as it's reasonably good (and it's not vegetables). Anything.
- Cloudcuckoolander: A bit too much.
- Dojikko / Cute Clumsy Girl: Chrys in a nutshell, although the "cute" part is what puts her under examination as a Sue.
- Energy Ball: Her power manifests in purple balls of magic. For no reason.
- Everything's Much Much Worse With Sparkles: You may have found those Bishie Sparkle-type anime sparkles usually seen with Love Bubbles (referred to as "desu sparkles") cute at first, but once you realize what it does to your sanity...
- Not to mention it's very uncomfortable to be pinned to the wall by them when they act like shuriken. Yes, sparkles act like shuriken.
- Fragile Flower: Chrys embodies this trope.
- Heterosexual Life Partners: With your head fully in the gutter, this is the closest you will ever get to putting together her and Aster before realizing that Aster's homophobic.
- This applies to Mizuho as well.
- Immortality: Her nature as a hanyou. She's still young, but in the future Immortality Will Begin At Twenty.
- OC
- Power Trio: With Aster and Akai. Chrys was leader in their original universe, but in the Society Aster takes this stance. (This is all theoretical, and a leader was never fully defined).
- Think Happy Thoughts: How Chrys gets through her angst. Most of it anyway...
- Unusual Ears: She has husky dog ears.
Ingrid Nunn
"Lemme read that!" (stares) "..." (continues staring) "...I don't know..."
She was once known as Maya Mariana and was a Sue and a great enemy to the Society, especially the Wanderers. She was eventually captured and had her memories wiped, but it resulted in her changing a new personality altogether; in fact she is completely devoid of personality. When Doug retired she took his place and the Society hopes to give her a personality. The little she seems to have developed include a little sarcasm, being weirded out by things, and some shame when she bluntly jumped into a battle.
Right now it's very unlikely she'll get Amnesiac Dissonance. But you never know, since the Society works on thinking up plots on the spot.
Tropes associated with Ingrid:
- Blank Slate: She's this now, and the Society wants to fix this.
- Guns Akimbo: She has two pistols holstered by her thighs in addition to a primary weapon.
- Heel Face Turn: But not voluntary. See Loss Of Identity.
- Loss of Identity: When her memories were wiped her personality was as well, causing her to lose her identity and not get a new one, which is what the Society wants to make. The Society RP Thread hints this is already happening.
- OC
- Young Gun: Apparently, she picks this up from Doug.
- She decided to use ranged weapons more than her sword because she wasn't really good at swinging one.
Robert
He had been happy back at the castle...
Younger, slightly shorter and weaker identical twin of Richard, who doesn't seem to be as powerful as him: certainly he seems much more likeable. He was captured in Rome and was locked in the Society's basement for nearly eight solid months, but he has been granted parole and released. He remains in the Library for his own safety, and Alice is his parole supervisor. His friendship with the denizens of the Basement remains, and this makes him ideal to be a go-between for the Society to fix the problems which he revealed was rife down there, and thus he has been invited to take the entry exam once his probation’s up.
Tropes associated with Robert:
- Full-Name Basis: Almost, as Robert will not use nicknames and will address everyone by their full first name (not their surname too, however).
- Heel Face Turn: To be honest, he wasn’t much of a heel in the first place, anyway...
- Honey Trap: He was captured by a very sultry Phoenixia seducing him...cue red cheeks every time someone reminds him of it.
- Just Got Out of Jail: Robert was granted parole from the basement after nearly eight months of incarceration. Already having unwittingly made enemies, he does not want to go back.
- Master Swordsman: Robert’s skill with a sabre is very high, and he has been able to pick up other blades and wield them well with ease, most notably a Roman Gladius. It’s said that the knack of being able to pick up any kind of light sword and being just as skilled with it is the only thing that Permanent Prohibition removed.
- Only One Name: Robert no longer uses his surname, Ardenwyn, because he considers himself so far removed from the farm life he was brought up in.
- The Unfavourite: His twin, Richard, is so much higher and more in the favour of Merle; Robert is merely a soldier to do Merle’s bidding. He is also used, with no rescue attempted when he was caught in Rome and dragged to the Society’s basement. It turns out that he was abandoned by Merle to be exactly where she wanted him when Louise’s sleeper agent programme activated.
And Even More Agents
And even more agents!!
Claire Upward
"That's what you get for trying to attack my boyfriend behind his back!"
The girlfriend of Michael. So you'd expect a charming, sweet, weak little girl?
Oh, no.
Even though she doesn't have any magical powers, she's quite formidable on the battlefield and can be extremely deadly with a set of pinecones. Her excitableness rivals that of Harriet or Tash...and she's trying to turn her fiancé, Michael, British.
Tropes associated with Claire:
- Damsel in Distress: Subverted. Although she gets kidnapped by Alexander Franchetti, even when tied to the chair she manages to beat up several mafia members...
- "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: She's the only one capable of doing this with Michael.
- Improbable Weapons User: Pinecones. Yes. Pinecones.
- Japanese Sibling Terminology: She refers to Tash as "Aneki".
- Meganekko: She wears glasses, but nobody seems to really point it out or discuss them.
- Self-Insert
Miriku "Miri" Wasson/Hernandez
"Yeah, you'd best be ready, Aniki!"
Michael's little sister Sidekick of sorts. While not actually related to Michael, she likes to pretend she is...which is a lot sweeter and nicer than what one would think. She's also adorable.
Tropes associated with Miri:
- Japanese Sibling Terminology: Michael is Aniki; Claire and Tash are Aneki.
- Like Brother and Sister: To Michael, obviously. Tash and Claire too.
- Meganekko: She wears glasses, and is rather cute with them.
- Shrinking Violet: Not exactly, but she does tend to recede into the Library when she doesn't know too many people.
Monika
"...there's something on the other side of that blank that's immensely important..."
A mysterious character, Monika has a rather strong sense of right and wrong which can lead her to being a good judge of character. However, she's not too capable of fighting. She has no powers, even though she did once: she just forgot that she had them (for very traumatic reasons). The only thing she can use is the power of suggestion...
Tropes associated with Monika:
- Fainting Seer: When she had prophetic powers, she never remembered making predictions.
- The Lancer: In Valerie's Five-Man Band.
- Laser-Guided Amnesia: Monika forgot everything about her powers as well as the fact she had them.
- Mad Oracle: She once had prophetic powers but the horrible things she was seeing caused her to blow up and eventually seal her memories and powers away. Getting them back could result in massive recoil.
Theresa "Terrie" Bridges
(about glomping a canon character) "C'mon. You guys know me. Did you honestly think I wouldn't, if given the chance?"
Outgoing and social, Terrie's actually on the verge of potentially talking too much. She's also a weapon master: if it exists, she can probably use it.
Tropes associated with Terrie:
- The Big Guy: In Valerie's Five-Man Band.
- Bi the Way: Sometimes openly, sometimes secretly, but always obviously.
- Changing Clothes Is a Free Action: To the point where it's lampshaded. She only needs to duck behind a door and emerge wearing completely different things, and nobody can figure it out: some even guess she's using a Sailor Moon Luna Disguise Pen.
- Genki Girl: Though not to the extent of the leaders.
- Omniglot: She can speak many languages... although they include Tolkien Elvish and Vulcan.
Stacey Leming
""I'm perfectly fine, both of you! Geez, I can take a little pain!"
Stacey's a sort of outgoing girl who's...interesting. She's also quite a formidable fighter and even has a split personality, Ezra, an impulsive sort of fighter. Ezra holds Stacey's powers in combat and ki manipulation.
Tropes associated with Stacey:
- Action Girl: As Ezra.
- The Chick: In Valerie's Five-Man Band.
- Split Personality: Stacey and Ezra.
- Team Mom: In a sense.
- White Magician Girl: Stacey's personality fits this very well.
Danielle
"Because you DID do something, and you know it! ...Rawr."
She's all-around a good person, but she can vary from a nice guy to a biting sort of person...she also likes to go against any socially accepted norm. Though she almost qualifies an as Action Girl, she dislikes emotional conflict and likes to diffuse potential problems with well-placed humor and randomness early.
Tropes associated with Danielle:
- Omniglot: English, French, German, Russian, Japanese... just how many are there again?
- The Smart Guy: In Valerie's Five-Man Band.
- Tsundere: To the point where it gets bipolar, though most of the time it's tsun.
Jessica "Jess"
"Oh my god...eyeballs!" (looks away)
A Heavy Metal fan, but not Goth. She's a relatively aggressive girl to boot. Her assets include a huge handbag that contains everything: yes, everything: and a small deformed creature she's been afraid of since she was younger.
Tropes associated with Jess:
- Bag of Holding: And how! So much, in fact, it even attracts Leonard...
- Improbable Weapon User: She uses a syringe to scare Sues into surrendering for fear of losing their perfect skin. Lampshaded as at one point, it doesn't work so well.
- Old Shame: She faces a Sue, Hazel, whom she created.
- Power Tattoo: There's a pentagram one on her back, which controls the elements whenever she's emotionally incited; she's trying to control it. There's also a second one shaped like an owl, but so far it seems to be benign.
- Self-Insert
- Unlimited Wardrobe: And everything else about her appearance. It's sometimes even hard to tell if it's her.
Karissa
"I'm fine so long as I can breathe."
A mysterious girl: and it's not mysterious in the sense of her past or her powers. It's hard to tell what she's thinking and what kind of person she is. Outside, she's nice to everyone, but while she's not yandere, she certainly has a more deep side to her.
Tropes associated with Karissa:
- Invisibility: Her only power, something quite ironic given her minor Shrinking Violet type personality.
- OC
- Stepford Smiler: In a sense. While she tries to be cheerful, sweet, and kind, she has her share of problems to think about a lot, especially since she's on bad terms with her own author.
Joseph "Joe"
"You won't have to worry about that much longer, Ben. 'Cause I'm gonna make you forget it."
Another character written by Pete's Author, who left for unknown and mysterious reasons.
Tropes associated with Joe:
- Big Damn Heroes: He returned from his below-mentioned bus trip... and HOW!
- OC
- Put on a Bus: He left for a while to recollect his thoughts/powers but made a return.
Ossa
"I know. I just don't want to think about that...Sue. She almost killed me, Ai. Allow me some time to adjust."
A girl who's hard to understand mainly because she won't reveal everything about herself. It is to be known that she has a larger share of problems that one would think. Still, she has a fangirl side and can definitely be a nice person.
She has a relationship with Aimee.
Tropes associated with Ossa:
- Self-Insert
- Stepford Smiler: A much more extreme version of the trope than Karissa. Ossa's first fic shows she still has scars from her first suicide attempt and even has broken ribs. And yet, she can still have semi-cheery conversations with Aimee and Jamie...
- Yaoi Fangirl: Do not, and I repeat do not, mention the two words "death" and "note" in one sentence.
Aimee
"Oh, I see: you love your caffeinated beverages more than you love me."
Aimee has a fair share of psychological torment that seems to add to a fair share of insecurity about herself, despite her importance to the Society.
Tropes associated with Aimee:
- Self-Insert
- Stepford Smiler: To an extreme: despite her insecurity, her smile can be "brighter than the sun".
- Unlucky Everydude: In a serious way. Aimee seems to have extremely rotten luck in what she does, which doesn't help all her lifetime problems. It makes anyone want to hug her.
- Your Worst Nightmare: The lighter version of the trope. Aimee has recurring nightmares that, while not relevant to her real life, can still plague her very much.
James "Jamie" Coulthard
(about Ossa and a Sue) "I really don't think you two are going to be BFFs now."
Jamie, the Scottish Agent of Ossa's three-group, seems to like to have quite a bit of wit...He also has a fatherly influence over Aimee of sorts, even though she sometimes thinks he's annoying.
Tropes associated with Jamie:
- Love Triangle: An extremely mild version. Aimee likes to tease Jamie about having a crush on Ossa. However, the one paired up with Ossa is...Aimee. Jamie doesn't seem to care much though.
- Self-Insert
Tom
"I'm Tom, archaeologist...Always wanted to introduce myself that way."
An archaeologist and Doctor Who cosplayer.
Tropes associated with Tom:
- Agent Scully: Skeptical about everything: this goes as far as the paperwork.
- Blow You Away: He has started using wind magic on the RP thread.
- Improbable Weapon User: A shrubbery. Did you get that? I'll say it again. A shrubbery.
- Self-Insert
Mizuho
"...we work under the people who create the characters and the worlds; writers and, I guess in some cases, self-inserts. So, people like you are Gods. At least to people like us who actually realize you create the worlds that they live in."
Mizuho is Chrys's partner as a Peacekeeper, and a sprite. She hates her job mainly because Peacekeepers are designed to prevent threats from taking place in the Multiverse...and not getting involved in said threat once it begins. She doesn't participate actively in the Society, mainly because fate leaves it to Chrys.
Tropes associated with Mizuho:
- Because Destiny Says So: She doesn't like it, but accepts it when the job must be left to Chrys.
- Berserk Button: Mistaking her for a pixie, fairy, or other type of mystical being. The subversion: She doesn't externally have a Berserk Button, but if you could read her mind...
- Dark and Troubled Past: She won't reveal it, but yes, it's that bad.
- Deadpan Snarker: Quite a bit.
- Immortality: It's because she's a sprite. She has the same ability as Aster to change appearance.
- OC
- The Stoic: She's like this because of her Dark And Troubled Past.
Akai Minami
"...well, screw you, man."
Allied with Chrys and Aster, and the straight voice of their group. She has minor demonic powers that don't go beyond killing cute fluffy bunnies (though she may have more), and she has an unnerving habit of saying weird/awkward/very rude things with a straight face. Also, she wields "crack pills" disguised as Altoids: anyone who takes one will not be taken seriously. She's constantly on them.
Somewhat of a foil for Chrys. She's followed everywhere by a jun-akuma (half-demon) that's three inches, doesn't talk, can create cookies from midair, and probably maybe possibly wants to blow up the world...but it doesn't do anything. Nobody knows why, as this is unusual for a jun-akuma.
- Berserk Button: Two. One is calling her short. The other is insulting any of her favorite characters.
- Deadpan Snarker: Oh yes. Oh yes...In fact, she's so sarcastic and snarky that she's not getting possessed and corrupted by the jun-akuma (most people do), because the jun-akuma has enough snark and negativity to feed off of. At least, that's the prevailing theory.
- Immortality: Type II (or possibly Type I), due to the jun-akuma. Similar to Chrys and Aster, she's still young but Immortality Will Begin At Twenty. However, she's got a choice on going on this or not, and she varies between the opinions of Who Wants to Live Forever? and Living Forever Is Awesome...
- The Napoleon: She's five feet even, and does not like this fact.
- OC
- Our Demons Are Different: She's followed around by the jun-akuma, which does absolutely nothing wrong besides look cute; however, everyone knows it has the potential to really, really manifest evilness. But Akai doesn't seem to care, despite the fact she's risking severe danger.
- Power Trio: With Chrys and Aster. Akai is the logical snark source.
- There Is No Kill Like Overkill: When she meets a Sue who's killed Sheryl Nome, one of her favorite characters, she threatens the Sue with death if she doesn't resurrect Sheryl. The Sue resurrects her...and Akai proceeds to kill the Sue anyway. Then parade her body around the basement as a warning to those who insult her favorite characters. Then tear out her hair and braid it as a war prize. Then rip up the body to pieces, stuff it in a jar, throw it into an incinerator, then burn the incinerator.
Willie
"...the Society trusting me, and no one knows the truth but me and her. My life is going great!"
A mysterious character. He seems to have alternate motives besides the Society. He hunts Sues only because he lost his pride to one. He works for...some really bad guys down there...and has demonic powers.
This does not help his case when he gets in an argument with Rhia regarding hellfire and she's found dead not too long after...but, of course, this turns out to be a fake anyway.
Tropes associated with Willie:
- Deal with the Devil: Implied he made one.
- Hellfire: It's his signature attack.
- Heroic Sociopath : Oh, yeah.
- Evil Feels Good
- Laughably Evil: You should see him in the RP Thread!
- Lovable Traitor: He used to work for another society, which made him shady: however, according to a Word of God patch, he was caught by the Society and made a Heel Face Turn and made himself fully Society loyal. However, the Society cannot trust him: especially when Rhia was found dead, not too long after they have an argument...(He didn't do it, but he was the prime suspect.)
- OC
Inara Harame
"What did you say!? I can't hear you over the plothole!"
One of the youngest members of the Society. She is currently undergoing training from Willie of some type.
Tropes associated with Inara:
- Morph Weapon: Her main weapon is a feather quill that can turn into Freddy Krueger-esque claws, a dagger, or a sword.
- Online Alias: Inara isn't her real name; she just uses it to protect her identity. Clever girl.
- Self-Insert
- Shock and Awe: If the RP Forum is any indication, she's started using lightning magic.
Stephen
"When the going gets tough, cheat."
Agent in the Society with ADD. He is currently attempting to hunt down his former creation, Nameless.
Tropes associated with Stephen:
- Attention Deficit Ooh Shiny: ...I'm sorry, what were we talking about?
- Berserk Button: Go ahead. Take his hat. I dare you.
- Cool Pet: Baby Cthulhu, otherwise known as Lil' C.
- Kamehame Hadouken: A purely-melee variation.
- Lightning Bruiser
- Nice Hat: He is usually seen wearing a very faded orange bucket hat with a black band at the rim. He is highly protective of it.
- Old Shame: Nameless.
- Psychic Nosebleed: Got one after his psychic powers were awakened in Psyren.
- Put on a Bus: In story? He went missing while looking for a weapon. Real life? So he wouldn't interfere with Adrian's resurrection.
- He's still miffed that everybody forgot he was missing.
- Self-Insert
- Super Strength: He developed this after his time in Psyren.
- Taken for Granite: Ironhide, which temporarily turns him into stone.
- Touched by Vorlons: His excuse for how he got his powers. Nobody believes it.
- Un-Sorcerer: His magic ability is literally zero.
John Metcalf
"..."
The resident mute. Possesses an insatiable lust for fishing, wandering, and sleep.
Tropes associated with John:
- Badass Normal: John has no powers or fancy artifacts, only his wits and a ball of twine.
- Berserk Button: Annoy him while he's fishing at your own risk.
- Brilliant but Lazy: John is remarkably clever when he can be arsed into motion.
- Heroic Mime: John has been mute from birth. He uses cue cards to communicate.
- Self-Insert
Agents On A Bus
Lauren
"Oh dear God..."
The third official leader of the Society, although she's pretty much ditched it in favor of escaping to the Canaries. Not much is known about her, given her lack of information. She's been replaced by Michael.
Tropes associated with Lauren:
- Put on a Bus: Wonder when she's coming back...
- Self-Insert
Blake Whitworth
"...I don't even want to know."
Tropes associated with Blake:
- Put on a Bus to Hell: Quit the Society under extremely trying emotional circumstances. The gigantic plothole he left behind has yet to be filled. However, a plan is in motion to fix that.
- Real Life Writes the Plot
- The Stoic / Only Sane Man
Ria
"Go on, don't you guys have some party to supply food for?"
A relatively excitable girl who joined the Society without knowing what she was getting into. Her author is trying to make a new character, an OC, to join instead of the Self-Insert.
Tropes associated with Ria:
- Put on a Bus: Actually, I don't think she's coming back.
Sumire
She's a bit excitable, and a potential techie, but her bias for fandoms led her to be locked in her room to prevent her from going into any more Black List fandoms.
Tropes associated with Sumire:
- Put on a Bus: With reason. The author hasn't returned to the Society for a long time and Sumire remains locked up in the room...so we can even assume she was still locked up even during the Willowe invasion. The fact that the author deleted both her Society stories from FF and made no comment doesn't help.
Camille
"I know for a fact that I can't win against you, so I hid under the table. Yes, I'm a jerk. And when you were busy distracted, I cuffed your leg."
A former member, she used to be the techie of the Society, along with her android Doyle. Her tale was left on a cliffhanger when the Sue Chi kidnapped her mentor Sherlock Holmes, but it's assumed the Society sorted it out...
Her status as main techie was eventually replaced by Charis.
Tropes associated with Camille:
- Creator Breakdown: Her author left due to real life issues getting in the way, leaving behind an official statement withdrawing Camille as a current agent in the Society.
- I Have Your Mentor Who Happens To Be Sherlock Holmes: Her mentor is kidnapped for ransom, just so that the Sues can get info on the Society: a patch is in the works for this.
- Like Brother and Sister: Her relationship with Doyle.
- OC
- Stepford Smiler: She turns out like this when Holmes is kidnapped.
Emma
"Well the reason we're taking so long...is because we opened up the plothole in the wrong point and landed on the wrong side of Cardiff..."?
One of the ‘Welsh Girls’. A headstrong sort of girl. She likes taking her dog Meg on missions.
Tropes associated with Emma:
- Action Girl: Somewhat.
- Put on a Bus: When Emma's author quit, the character was withdrawn.
Beth
"Kate stop littering!"
One of the ‘Welsh Girls’. Rather flirtatious sort of girl. She has a soft spot for Jack Harkness, and is bent on breaking the way to Adrian's blacklist to do it. Although...she might be bisexual...
Tropes associated with Beth:
- Bi the Way: See Les Yay.
- Put on a Bus: Like Emma, she was withdrawn with her author's quit.
Kate
(throwing down map) "So long you useless excuse for tourist information!"
One of the ‘Welsh Girls’. A girl who likes to plan things. Slightly more mature than others.
Tropes associated with Kate:
- Only Sane Man: Subverted. She's closer to mature, so you'd think she'd be one, but...
- Put on a Bus: She was withdrawn with Emma and Kate.
Sues & Stus
These guys make the Society’s life hell…or are our reason for being…or are the source of all our fun. One of the three. Or even all of them at once.
Willowe Foxblade
"I will take over the Real World and use it to control every possible fandom and world and then, with everything bent to my will, I can only hope the urge will be satiated..."
The first season's Big Bad. Starting off as a generic-type Sue made by Harriet, but began to become driven crazy by ambition to take over the Multiverse. She had once fostered a large family, consisting of herself, her sisters Holly, Juniper, Ashley, Aspen, and Palm Tree, and her brother Alastor, but was separated from them. She was extremely close to becoming the Lieutenant Mary Sue, but was plopped in the Twilight fandom before she could do too much damage.
Runoa eventually let her out and she killed Adrian to achieve her own ends, but Adrian's death was avenged by Tash. Further investigation reveals that Willowe had wanted to take over the Multiverse not just to satisfy her own desire, but to make it so that her younger sister Palm Tree wouldn't have to suffer the hunger for power a Sue always feels.
Tropes associated with Willowe:
- A God Am I: Except she wants to make it true.
- Anti-Villain: The many letters and reflections left after her death reveal she was driven mad by Sueishness, and not purely evil: she had genuine care for her sisters, Emily in particular, and wanted to make life better for her family. Her delusions led her to believe that taking over the world would free her sister of the desire to do so. When she was finally killed her emotions and sanity sorted themselves out in her last moments and Final Speech, and she redeemed herself partially.
- Brought Down to Normal: After her original text is edited, she's made into a normal character and trapped in Twilight with four Prohibitors on. She still breaks out.
- Cliché Storm: Invoked. She was created by using the Lord of the Rings Mary Sue Litmus Test to cram pretty much every Mary Sue cliché into one character.
- Love Makes You Evil: Sort of. Willowe's goal in taking over the world is revealed to be not only a way of at last achieving a satisfaction of her own nature, but to also save her beloved sister Emily from the cursed fate of becoming a Sue.
- Overly Long Name: Don't even get us started...
- Rapunzel Hair: With extreme flipping action!
- Yandere: Oh my... Although she borders on Cute and Psycho.
Alastor Kiang
"I believe you and I have a score to settle...now don't we?"
The single Foxblade male. The Alastor seen in the series is actually a self insert forgotten by Michael. Until the reveal, he'd just been Michael's rival the entire time.
The real Alastor was captured and assimilated by the Michael self-insert years ago. Word of God states that while he was alive, he was a complete coward, and was in fact directly related to the Foxblades. He was the first Foxblade to fall. The false Alastor was the third, if he is counted as a Foxblade.
Tropes associated with Alastor:
- A God Am I: His final plan is essentially taking every fandom, the Society included, combining them together, and absorbing them, taking their powers, and essentially becoming a deity.
- Beating a Dead Player: It only adds to his appeal...sort of.
- Disproportionate Retribution: Okay, so he got abandoned by his author...so he decides to merge every single universe together in one mess and pretty much destroy everything.
- Roaring Rampage of Revenge: He's Michael's Old Shame, and wants revenge for being neglected.
- With Great Power Comes Great Insanity: Oh. Yes.
Cassie Anora
"I will not live like a caged animal!"
The former Lieutenant Mary Sue, she was created by the same Author of Aster. She has about as much power as Aster, and lived off logic. But she lost it and tried to escape, and was controlled by a rogue Author and swiftly took power with rage to establish a totalitarian state among Sues. After Aster's Author gave Tash and Adrian info on how to take down Cassie, they did so.
After languishing in her cell, she ran into Valerie, who found that Cassie had been suffering more from a bad past than evil. Eventually Cassie managed to kill herself in order to save others, making herself a martyr.
Tropes associated with Cassie:
- The Chessmaster: She was for a while until this position was ceded to Runoa.
- Death Equals Redemption: She kills herself to prevent Aster from becoming a Sue and to prevent a mysterious Author from using her again to create the Sues' totalitarian state.
- Straw Vulcan: She is defeated by the fact that she's shocked not only was Adrian able to defeat her logic, but that her logic was wrong.
Runoa
"The reason there is pain in the universe is because people are flawed... consumed by hatred, lust, greed and envy...I was researching to create a process to remove those impurities. I call it 'Immaculation'."
The former Librarian and the second season's Big Bad. Currently the leader of the Sues, succeeding Cassie, although she's not "Lieutenant" and she didn't get to receive much of the infinite power because of the Society's intervention. She doesn't care about other Sues and actually doesn't like them; the only reason she's a Sue is that she tried to make a process, Immaculation, that would purge people of all sins. It was imperfect and made her into a Sue.
She was kicked out of the Library for going too far with her Immaculation research and was exiled into a void until Willowe rescued her, something Willowe gets no gratitude for. While she no longer cares about the Library, she now holds a grudge against Adrian and would love to see him dead...or does she?
Tropes associated with Runoa:
- Go Mad from the Revelation: Runoa couldn't take the fact that she could not save people.
- I Am Your Father: Adrian is Runoa's son.
- The Chessmaster: She becomes this after Cassie's fall.
- Well-Intentioned Extremist: Runoa had only wanted to rid the world of evil, but it had gotten a little too far...
Pseudo-Tash
"I'll just sit here and watch you die slowly."
A ripoff of Tash made to lure Adrian and one of the few Sues who survived the Willowe takeover incident. She's now Runoa's minion.
Tropes associated with the Pseudo-Tash:
- Evil Knockoff / Evil Twin / Dark Chick: Of Tash, whom she tries to imitate.
- Reliable Traitor: Runoa suspects she's got her own agenda but ignores it anyway.
- Spot the Impostor: She tried to trick the Society into thinking Adrian raped her and tried to kill her. Of course, only Adrian sees through it. Eventually things get fixed.
- She does it again to throw Aster into the death trap of the world of Death Note.
Merle
"Come Mirani, bring your little soldiers, bring them to their deaths. Come...and I will see you die for a second time."
Louise's arch-nemesis, Merle is an enigmatic and scheming Sue with lots of power and allies. Has it in for Louise, with whom the two share some sort of past.
Tropes associated with Merle:
- The Chessmaster: With a light sprinkling of Magnificent Bastard to rebound from defeat. Her ability to infiltrate any fandom without showing up on the radar unless she wants it: from Ancient Rome to Stargate SG-1 to Warhammer Fantasy – is only coupled with her patience in her finely-laid plans.
- It's Personal: Merle doesn’t care a fig for the Society…they just get in her way. It’s Mirani she wants.
- Lunacy: Stay out of the moonlight...
- Our Werewolves Are Different: Merle has complete control over her werewolf form, being most powerful (of course) at full moon.
- Necromancer: Merle is a very skilled one. It’s how she ‘cured’ Mirani from Richard’s overzealous punishment…
Richard
"Watch, Mirani...watch me choke the life out of the most important thing to you."
A companion of Merle's, likely her second in command. He is cruel and sadistic, and does not pull punches.
Tropes associated with Richard:
- ...And Show It to You: Richard’s favourite method of execution. Experienced first-hand by Mirani.
- Cold-Blooded Torture: He seems to have it in for Alice, and had made her know it more than once. He almost strangled her to death the first time, and nearly kidnapped her in Rome...
- Our Werewolves Are Different: He is Merle’s third sired son, and her favourite.
- Parental Favoritism: Richard is most definitely Merle’s favourite over all else, not just his twin.
@
A digital Mary-Sue that hacked her way into the Society's mainframe and decided to stick around. Luckily, @ is more mischievous than flat-out evil, and seems to have the mind of a child.
Tropes associated with @:
- A.I. Is a Crapshoot: Subverted. She makes herself a nuisance in the Library’s computers, people’s laptops and almost every high-end electrical device in the Library - such as the microwaves and the Wii!!…but she is not homicidal or malicious.
- Computer Virus: She is the first, and probably the only, Digital Sue.
- The Computer Is a Cheating Bastard: @ like making your games…more fun.
- The Computer Shall Taunt You: All the time. Cheeky minx.
- The Ingenue: She takes the appearance of a young woman but she has the mind of a child. This naivety makes her easily used, especially when she can control the Library electrics.
The Sovereigns
A group of Sues made by Runoa to embody perfection. They are all extremely powerful, and extremely dangerous.
Silri Weathermore
"I know Adrian is alive! I will find him! And I will kill him!"
The Sovereign prototype, although her mind did not entirely survive the experience. Irrational, to the point of slight insanity (not the good kind). Prone to sudden mood swings as well as sudden loyalty swings.
Tropes associated with Silri:
- Blow You Away: Controls the air and wind.
- Determinator: To the point of insanity.
Death
"I am the Sovereign Death... and death is a unconquerable finality that no one can escape! God, demon, devil angel, hero, villain... I am greater than all of them because in the end, they all have to bow to my power!"
The first of the Ten Sovereigns to challenge the Society and, despite the enormous effort required to defeat him, was proclaimed to be the weakest of the bunch. Took the form of the then-deceased Adrian in order to throw everyone off, and was eventually deleted and taken over by Phoenixia.
Tropes associated with Death:
- Voluntary Shapeshifting
- Healing Factor: Because he is the personification of Death, he cannot die himself, and so regenerates endlessly, even down to the atomic level.
Elegance
Elegance is a silent killer working alone to pick people off from the shadows. She wields two swords and a sniper rifle.
Tropes associated with Elegance:
- Professional Killer; Almost ninja-like.
Harmony
Harmony was first seen by the Society in the mission to rescue Aster, but most notably she was observed when she took part in Sue Factor, the Sues' ripoff of The X Factor. Needless to say, she won.
Tropes associated with Harmony:
- Music Soothes the Savage Beast: When she sings, her entire audience hold hands and sway. This power becomes less sweet when she uses it to stop you from wanting to fight...
Passion
"I've heard you're a gamer. So do you want to play a game? 'Course, if you don't want to, things could get messy..."
One of the more quirky Sovereigns, and certainly the youngest, Passion's seemingly carefree attitude belies an obsessive nature. Prefers to design deadly "games" for his victims to play, and smites cheaters and rule-breakers harshly.
Tropes associated with Passion:
- Attention Deficit Ooh Shiny: Passion seems to be perpetually hyped up on Red Bull.
- Cheaters Never Prosper: He will punish you severely if you even think about cheating during his game.
- Geek Supervillain: He's a Level 10 Stu, easily able to smash you through walls and fly...yet all he wants to do is play games.
- No Kill Like Overkill: It's just not fun that way!!
Purity
"Normally I am like ice... pure, untouched ice. But when you touched me earlier I felt fire blaze through me! It filled me with such joy... such feelings! It's like the best rush in the entire world."
"Pure" in the sense that he is devoid of any life or emotion, and is colder than ice. When he encountered Tash for the first time, her inner fire gave him the first sense of warmth or feeling he'd ever had, and he became obsessed with feeling that again, even at Tash's expense.
Tropes associated with Purity:
- An Ice Person: In more ways than one.
- Our Angels Are Different
Life
Life is clever and merciless, and extremely manipulative, in many senses of the word.
Tropes associated with Life:
- People Puppets: Life’s strings put her in control of anyone.
Resolve
Resolve is the brawler of the Sovereigns, rarely if ever pulling his punches. It's advisable to not quip any jokes about water soluble hangover cures around him.
Tropes associated with Resolve:
- Power Fist / Tricked-Out Gloves: Resolve’s gauntlets store energy that make his attacks more powerful.
Wisdom
Wisdom's pre-Sovereign self is actually known; he was once called Keria, and was defeated by Michael during a Dark Tournament in Yu Yu Hakusho. He later reappeared for revenge, having met Runoa and undergone the Immaculation process.
Tropes associated with Wisdom:
- Badass Grandpa: Certainly he's old enough to be one.
- Old Master: He knows every type of martial art that ever existed.
Creation
A surprisingly short Sovereign who dresses like an artist. That's your first hint...
Tropes associated with Creation:
- Art Initiates Life: Everything she draws in her sketchbooks can be brought to life; from a glass of water, to almost indiscernable clones...
Order
The most powerful Sovereign. He was at first amused when Valerie proved herself unwilling to harm him, but that amusement quickly spiraled into a fixation when he couldn't understand it.
Tropes associated with Order:
- The Dragon: Effectively he is Runoa's second-in-command and main sounding board...
- The Stoic: Emotions? What are they?
Divinity
Tropes associated with Divinity:
Others
Aaaaaand the rest!!
The Counter Guardians
A group of people dedicated to saving the world...by killing a bunch of people. You know. Like Archer.
Actually, did you know Archer's one of them?
A group of people, some from canon other sources, some completely original, dedicated to saving the world. Adrian's one of them.
Tropes associated with the Counter Guardians:
- Because The Powers That Be Say So: They all suffer the same problem as Adrian (see above).
- Expy: The Counter Guardians who aren't imported from canon series (including Saitou Hajime and Vergil) have eerily similar pasts to Archer of Fate/stay night, because that's probably why they're together as a group. Although Adrian might know less about his past than he lets on...
- Screw Destiny: They'd all love to do that. They actually have the potential to, but then they'd really be breaking rules and they'd get in a LOT of trouble.
- Sugar and Ice Personality: Kuroneko is hinted to be one.
The Wanderers
A group of people, of which Doug is among, who pick a fandom and cultivate their talents in there, then join together and make a badass team.
Tropes associated with the Wanderers:
- Badass Army: In fact the way they're organized is eerily like that of a real army.
- Non-Lethal Warfare: When in collaboration with the Society to catch a Sue/Stu.
The Pro-Cliché and Mary-Sue Protection Society
Basically the concept of The Psycho Rangers, except applied to the Society. All Agents have their names as backwards versions of Society Agents. They're dimensional counterparts, and they're a much more unstable group than the Society. Their job is to "bring perfection" and protect Sues.
Not all Society Agents have Protection Society counterparts.
Protection Society Agents carry Space Hammer cards, and their personalities are opposites to the Society Agents. Their leader is Retsa, Aster's counterpart. She's a genius and has power almost equivalent to Aster...for crackish reasons of course.
Tropes associated with the PCMSPS:
- Evil Counterpart: It's what they are.
- Leeroy Jenkins: At least two of the Protection Society's Agents qualify as this on two different occasions.
The Doctor
No, not THAT Doctor, the Doctor is another character encountered by Michael and Emily. Very little is known about him, aside from the fact he seems very interested in Emily.
Word of God states he's going to become a much larger player in future developments
Tropes associated with the Doctor:
- Evil Genius: Well of course!
Ardelisa du Vinevil
"Divine Providence will see me through."
A Canon Sue from a novel written in the 1800s, "The Adventures of Count du Vinevil and his Family", once going by the pseudonym Lisa Vine. She caused a lot of problems for the Society, but apologized for it promptly and sincerely when she finally realized they were not out to kill her. However, as it happened, since Ardelisa was a canon character, the ACMSES had no jurisdiction over her. Nonetheless, she remains a firm, if strange, ally to the Society.
Tropes associated with Ardelisa:
- Contrived Coincidence / Ass Pull: Ardelisa always trusts that 'Divine Providence' will see her through any adversity, and it often does. This 'power' gives her an extraordinary amount of luck...though sometimes it simply directs her gaze to the fire axe on the wall...
- Incorruptible Pure Pureness: One of her many Sueish traits.
Avak
"Ben can give me all the options he wants, but in the end he's stil my Author, and I'll never be able to deny him or do anything except what he wants."
Ben's experimental OC made as part of a project centering around the mass-production of footsoldiers... except he's scared of everything.
Potentially starting a Love Triangle with Lily.
Tropes associated with Avak:
- An Axe to Grind: Abraxis, his bass guitar, comes equipped with a pair of retractable axe-heads, as well as a special device that enhances the force of his swings.
- Anti-Magic: He gains the ability to drain Sueishness.
- Berserk Button: Threaten or even insult Lily, and you'll never know what hit you...ever.
- Blank Slate
- Eek! A Mouse!: Avak's first encounter with a mouse ended with him curled up in a corner, terrified.
- Instrument of Murder: Abraxis.
- OC
- Shrinking Violet: ...Pretty much. A direct result of the Blank Slate.
Zero
"I think I understand now, what it means to be a hero. It's not about giving up your life to save others. It's about being the kind of person that others would go to impossible lengths to save."
A genetic replica of Adrian made by Creation on Runoa's orders who decided life would be more interesting if he went his own way. Technically speaking, he's a Stu, but he's not really a bad guy. Three parts good-natured humor mixed with one part practical wisdom. He refused prohibition and asylum in the Library, and is content to play Mysterious Protector for now. Currently only Valerie knows of his existence.
Tropes associated with Zero:
- Cloning Blues: Notoriously averted.
- Heel Face Turn: Off screen. He defected very soon after his creation.
- Soul Jar: For Adrian.
